Ashfeather laughed at the thought of twolegs trying to invade their camp, although he hoped that day never came. "They're so uncoordinated and tall. They don't even have claws. I don't think they could even fight if they tried." Briarpatch gave a small nod, looking down at her paws. "Lavendersky confirmed my fears. She said it's very early but I'm definitely pregnant. And, they're definitely yours. I know we're not mates or anything, but I wanted you to know before the rest of the clan finds out. I'm sure it will be pretty obvious in the next moon or so." “Exactly.” Redspring smirked, voice coming out as a gruff snort. “I bet I could make one trip on their own legs if I ran around them quickly enough.” She enjoyed the ease of Ashfeather’s words, and the sound of his voice. Flarestorm was quiet for a long time, looking forwards as thoughts raced in his mind. They were his. Briarpatch was pregnant, and that meant that he would soon be a father, to entire kits. He took in a long and deep breath, reminding himself that this was nobody’s fault but his own, and Starclan sure could pull a pelt-skinned trick when they felt like it. But, he was a grown tom, and he did care more for Briarpatch than anyone else he’d ever been close with like this before. “Well.” He started, before looking at her. “Then I guess we should probably skip the whole toeing around the bush, if this is gonna happen. I mean, if you want to, we don’t have to be mates to raise kits, because don’t worry, if you’re in this, then I’m sure gonna be in this too. But uh…” He shuffled his own paws. “We could be. Mates, if you want. I mean. I like you alot, and well. We just skipped a few steps, I guess.” He mewed, sheepish and a bit overwhelmed, but refusing to let her even think he’d ever let her do this alone.

Ashfeather couldn't help but feel much more at ease after talking everything out with Redspring. She always seemed to be so sure of herself, so unlike himself. He returned her smirk, nodding in agreement. "Well, of course, you're one of the fastest in the clan. If anyone can do it you can." he complimented quietly.
Briarpatch let out a breath she didn't know she was holding, relieved she crashed her head into his shoulder with a quiet sob. "Thank Starclan, I thought I was going to have to raise them alone, I would like that. To be your mate I mean," she admitted. "I've known for a couple of sunrises now and it's been tearing me apart. I don't think I ever imagined myself being a mother Flarestorm."

I don't think I ever imagined myself being a mother Flarestorm." “Compliments will get you everywhere, Ashfeather.” Redspring smirked, though she suddenly found herself feeling that same crestfallen feeling. Willownose and Ashfeather already seemed so close with eachother, and the thought of getting inbetween them crushed her. As much as it crushed her seeing both having eyes for the other. She thought then of Jadefeather, Whitesun and Obsidianflower, envious of how easy and warm their relationship had been. All three adoring eachother, all three looking at their kits with such love, and the way Whitesun and Jadefeather had mourned Obsidianflower in a way only mates could. Surely, Ashfeather and Willownose did not both love her, as she realized she loved both of them. Flarestorm was a bit surprised at the sudden embrace, but he quickly found himself lowering his muzzle to brush her head gently. Hearing that she had held in the truth because she had been scared to say it made his heart ache for her. “Hey. You kidding? I know it’s probably way earlier than we’d expect, but I can’t imagine a better cat to be a mother. And I’ll just have to get lessons from Whitesun or Wildstorm on how to be a father, but we’ll do all that together too. And hey, now I can finally call you mushy nicknames to tick you off.” He assured.

Lilith groomed herself in camp, idly waiting for an opportunity to go on the patrols. She mostly wanted to see what Phantom’s old group was up to, not that she had any care for those weak rats that tried to always catch his attention. She admittedly missed his cold strength, and his fierce dedication to her. She looked over to Bloodrime and Spectorswirl, conceding that they probably were loyal to Skyclan first and foremost. If Lilith were to ever ditch the Clan, she supposed they’d just have to stay. But, so far Clan life was easy living compared to rouge life, so she chose to stay. Cobrafang looked around for Quickwing, wanting to see if his younger sister was excited or not about these patrols.

Ashfeather licked his chest as his fur grew hot, "Nothing ever gets past you Redspring. I can never just say something nice without you pointing it out." he mewed with a grin. He was once again internally panicking, how did he always get back here? He needed to pull himself together, maybe he should talk to Shadowmask. It had been a while since he had confided in his sister. His eyes flashed back over towards Willownose, wondering what the other she-cat was thinking.
Briarpatch pulled back just enough to look up at him, staying close enough that their pelts were still brushing. "You'll be a great father Flarestorm," she replied sincerely. "Just hearing you say that we'll be okay makes me think that we will be. I'm just scared. My mother died when I was born, how will I know what to do?"

Redspring tried to save face, a peal of laughter escaping her as she pushed her feelings down and assured. “Don’t worry. It makes you you, Ashfeather. Don’t change a bit.” “We’ll talk to every she-cat in the Clan that’s had kits if we need to. Learn how they all did it. I’ll do everything I can so that it doesn’t happen to you.” Flarestorm promised, knowing how deeply her mother’s death had affected her. “In fact, we’ll just have to be so good at this parenting thing that cats will come to us for advice when they have kits.” He decided.

Ashfeather gave a slow nod, wondering if he should mention he never complimented anyone else this much save for Willownose. He was a tom of few words after all. "I didn't mean it in a bad way Redspring. I could say the same for you."
Briarpatch took a deep breath, letting his confidence wash over her and calm down her nerves. "Alright, you're right. We can do this. We're going to be good parents. Our clan will help us. We're helping our clan too I guess. We don't have many kits right now, that's more future warriors." She spoke with assurance, as she tried to convince herself it was true.

She spoke with assurance, as she tried to convince herself it was true. Redspring felt her heart lift. She often felt like many cats would prefer if she was more like her brother, more gentle and social, but she liked who she was. Hearing Ashfeather say that, that meant more than any other compliment. She gave him a rare smile, genuine instead of snarking, and gave a light chuckle. “Oh, Starclan, that’s an understatement. The other Clans are probably swimming with kits.” Flarestorm mewed, before he assured. “But, that also isn’t at all what you should ever have to feel you are worth. Kits or no kits, I would be your mate just as readily.” He admitted, before continuing. “Oh! I guess this means we can think of names and stuff too. Kit stuff.”

Ashfeather felt pride well up as Redspring gave him a genuine smile. He couldn't help the fluttering in his stomach that always happened when it was directed toward him. He nudged her shoulder gently, getting to his paws. "Wanna go for a walk? We can check the border while we're out."
Briarpatch felt herself smile for the first time in a few days, this went much better than she could have ever imagined. Flarestorm not only is going to help her raise the kits, but they were going to be mates! She let out a laugh in spite of herself. "I think the clan is going to be quite surprised to see you settle down." she teased. "I can't wait to see you with our kits. I hope they have your black ears."

Willownose and I were going to go out together, so it works out.” Redspring agreed, giving a knowing look to the other she-cat, always in a better mood when she was out on patrol with the both of them. “The Clan will be so distraught that their prettiest Warriors are off the prey pile.” Flarestorm smirked, confidence brimming in his voice as he felt both nerves and excitement that he finally had a mate, that he could finally say he felt a genuine connection. “Oh, Starclan, Poppyclaw’s going to never believe it. He’s going to hound you relentlessly, you know that right?” He snorted, knowing how little his brother cared for the concept of mates and kits. “I hope the kits have your lovely eyes.”

"Great! It will be good to stretch my legs, I haven't been out of camp yet today. Which border do you want to head towards first?" Ashfeather asked, heading for the camp entrance.
Briarpatch purred, pressing against Flarestorm's side. "I can handle Poppyclaw. I just hope you're nearby to relay the facts if needed. Do you think he'll be excited to have more kin?"

Do you think he'll be excited to have more kin?" “Thunderclan border’s going to be hopping with cats soon enough, so I’d say the Shadowclan border.” Redspring offered, stretching her legs before falling in step beside Ashfeather. “Poppyclaw will be excited that I’ll be focusing on the kits instead of bothering him on a daily basis. I still plan to do that though.” Flarestorm smirked, though he knew his brother was very protective of his clanmates. So long as Poppyclaw wasn’t expected to have kits of his own, Flarestorm knew he would protect any kit in any of the Clans. He was devoted to the code and his duties as a Warrior.

Ashfeather ducked out of the camp entrance and headed towards the Shadowclan border at an easy pace. As he walked, he noticed that subconsciously he had moved to walk right beside Redspring, their pelts only a hair length away from brushing together. He was slightly embarrassed but did not move away yet, wondering if Redspring would.

Redspring knew she should probably distance herself from Ashfeather, and yet she found that she just… couldn’t. It felt so nice, and she had never felt something like this before, besides her strong feelings she always had for Willownose.
“Oh, that’s a brilliant idea!” Flarestorm purred. “I’ll teach them how to jump on him from one of the ledges during his sunbathing time.” He joked, cackling at the thought of messing with his brother. He hummed. “Poppyclaw will probably cuff their ears, I guess we should save them from that fate.”

Ashfeather couldn't help the little smile that made itself known as Redspring continued to walk this close to him. He suddenly turned towards her, words rushing out of his mouth before he could even think about them. "Do you think you'd like having a mate?" (Should we take these two to the border page? )
Briarpatch's tailed flicked back and forth, the idea of their kits' ears being cuffed already annoying her. "He better watch his nest if he does." she sighed, giving him a small smile. "Thank you." she whispered. "This is everything I could have wished for the moment Lavendersky told me."

Redspring stopped, eyes widening for a second before she quickly looked at Ashfeather. "That..." She hesitated, not sure what to say that wouldn't reveal all the things she had been hiding inside of her. "Like it, I mean... I assume so, but. I don't think that's really the issue, more that... ah, I doubt many cats would see me as mate material..." She admitted. "I'd pay prey to see you kick my brother's tail in." Flarestorm laughed, before he returned her smile with a small one of his own. "I'm glad them, that you're feeling better about it. I never thought I'd be the kind of cat to settle or have this, but... I can't think of a better cat I get to settle with. We'll be just the same as before, but just with more paws and ears running around, yeah?" He purred.

(posted Ash on the border page ) Briarpatch returned his purr, looking over her shoulder to make sure they were still alone. "It'll be a little while until it's obvious. For now it's just a little secret between you, me and Lavendersky."

"I can keep a secret." Flarestorm winked casually, knowing that he would rather Briarpatch tell everyone if she wanted to, having no care or intent of letting anyone know himself. Sooner or later, she'd move to the nursery, but they could always fib and say they'd been mates for a while now if any cat tried to pester about it later on. He chuckled. "Well. Want to continue on that walk?"

Briarpatch got to her feet, stretching out before they continued on. "Yeah, maybe we can catch some prey on the way back if we scent any. I could use a nice sparrow right about now." Her stomach panged with the usual hunger of leafbare as she thought of the plump prey of newleaf. "I can't wait until it gets warm again."

I bet if you spooked one into a tree near me, I could wait in the branches and get it.”

"I know, I'm glad we won't have to worry about them going hungry as kits. I always feel bad for the queens who kit right at the start of leafbare. It must be an awful feeling watching your kits go hungry." Briarpatch replied, scenting the air for any nearby prey. "I think I smell a few birds not too far away. Let me know when you think it's a good time to climb and I'll start hunting from down here."

Flarestorm inwardly admitted that he knew he would hate to see any kits go hungry, and especially any queen that tried so hard to feed them when there was just not enough prey. It surprised him how quickly he had latched onto the thought of fatherhood, even if he was still nervous. He looked at Briarpatch and promised. "I'll steal all the prey in Twolegplace for you if I need to." He turned to monitor the trees, before spotting one with many sturdy branches and plenty of spots to climb and hide. "This one." He decided. "I'll climb up, you corral a bird or two towards here."

Briarpatch nodded silently, she waited for a moment as she allowed him time to climb up into the branches before she made her way over to the faint sound of birds chirping. She stalked through the sparse undergrowth quietly and when she was in position to scare them, she looked back up into the trees for a sign that Flarestorm was ready.

Flarestorm signified that he was ready in position by lowering his tail past the branch and swinging it quietly, a splash of ginger against the dried leaves. He pulled it back up quickly, crouching carefully on the branch to hide from sight for when the birds would be guided up towards him. He always had faith in Briarpatch's abilities. After all, they had done this together countless times before.

Briarpatch crept forward until she was just out of sight of the birds. She waited patiently until they seemed to all be distracted before she burst forwards with a growl. The birds squawked in panic and began to lift off. Briarpatch gave chase on the ground towards the tree Flarestorm was hidden in.

Flarestorm smirked, able to hear Briarpatch’s commotion below. He felt his pelt flutter with warmth as he reminded himself that he could call her his mate now when he thought or her. Right on cue, he could see one of the birds fluttering right up to land on the branch below him. Turning his body, he coiled his legs before shooting down from the branch. His forepaws pressed down on the prey as his hind paws dug claws into the branch to hold on, before he quickly bit the bird’s neck.
