Staring down the giant wolf, Theo couldn’t help but sweat when Fenrir didn’t set Luka down. It was almost like he was aware of what the boy was trying to do. Was it wishful thinking to assume it would work? Yeah, and it only seemed to make him angrier at the champion. The only silver lining was that his focus was no longer on crushing Luka, just holding her.
As Fenrir stalked forwards towards him, the facade Theo tried to put on seemed to break slightly. Laughing nervously, he slowly walked backwards, hoping to maintain distance between him and the wolf, but the sheer size difference between the two made that next to impossible. The gap between the two decreased, and he dared to not pull his eyes away. Not even as his teammates were doing something in the background.
“That’s a bit, uh, forward if you ask me. I know you’ve been looking at me all night-” Theo’s brain was going into full on panic mode to try to figure out what else to say to get him to drop Luka, but also not immediately maim him in response. The fear he’d been trying to suppress all encounter was slowly crawling its way back.
Thankfully, he didn’t have to think. One toss of Ariella’s shield into Fenrir’s eye and Luka was no longer in his grasp. Theo stared ahead at the sight, breathlessly clutching his sheathed sword in a hug. His eyes trailed to his injured teammates then back to the wolf as he swiftly recovered from the blow, eyes back on him, ready to pounce.
Shit.
As Fenrir charged, Theo ducked to the side to avoid the attack and sprinted down the clearing. The terrain was rough in places, enough that the boy nearly tumbled as he ran, but adrenaline mixed with an explosion of panic caused him to just ignore everything and go.

Chiara watched in dismay as the dagger went slipping through Luka’s fingers, and was desperately trying to think of any other way she could help her friend. But then Luka began to speak, and Chiara was close enough to hear the name the other girl uttered in surprise well even if she hadn’t had her enhanced hearing.
It couldn’t be, could it?
All Chiara knew was that suddenly Luka was throwing something to her. It was small, but thanks to her good senses she could track the tiny object relatively well even in the low light, and she had little trouble catching it successfully on her uninjured hand.
She didn’t know what she’d just caught, but she opened her hand to reveal a small earpiece on her palm. Luka’s earpiece for communicating with the leaders. The blonde quickly put the thing in her ear.
”River?” she began, repeating the name she’d heard Luka say earlier, though she hadn’t expected the man to be on the other end of the comms given how withdrawn he’d been lately.
”Three injured, Theo’s okay” she instantly went into trying to give as much information as briefly as she could ”Fenrir has Luka. We’re trying to get this thing to back off so we can get everyone though a portal but it’s goddamn relentless.”
She was distracted though when Ariella (with pretty perfect technique, by the way) launched her shield right at Fenrir. This resulted in a successful injury to the wolf, but also a six-foot drop for Luka.
”SHIT!” Chiara yelled as her friend was released from Fenrir’s jaws at a less kind height than she had been.
The girl dived to cushion her friend’s fall, though the impact of the backpack on the ground jarred her shoulder painfully. When Luka hit her she rolled, breaking the impact a little for both of them and getting Luka further away from Fenrir at the same time.
The blonde was winded, but after a moment to regain her breath she got Luka’s arm around her shoulder and supported her injured friend to her feet.
”I’ve got Luka,” she updated River.
She would have shouted for Ariella to get a portal open like they’d talked about if she hadn’t watched Fenrir charge for Theo, resulting in Theo sprinting to avoid the wolf’s attack.
”And scrap what I said about Theo being fine, he’s being chased like a Tom and Jerry cartoon.”
How could they help Theo?

Snap. Snap. The sound of Fenrir’s jaws snapping behind him was all that Theo could process as he ran for his life, drowning out everything in a blind panic. However, his sprint was halted when his leg was suddenly dragged out from under him. The momentum caused his torso to first fall forward before he was hoisted up many feet into the air. While the action was sudden, Theo managed to keep an iron grip on his sword, holding it in his arms as if his life depended on it.
He dangled helplessly upside down while the wolf walked him further and further away from where the others were situated. Presumably to wherever his den was within the litter of human remains.
“Do you think you could-” Theo began when his foot was suddenly dropped, falling a couple feet before Fenrir caught him by the leg again, raising him a foot higher than he was before. The sudden movement and the blood rushing to his head was enough to make him dazed and sick.
“Eugh.”
The pressure on his leg was immense, but he was unable to register any additional pain. No splintering, no ooze of blood, nothing outside of the general discomfort of it being stuck in the jaws of a giant wolf. It was somehow less painful than his last encounter.
“Did your teeth get duller or something?” Theo questioned before using his one free leg to kick repeatedly at Fenrir’s face in an attempt to get him to release it.

Luka Ravina
Luka wordlessly fell, closing her eyes and anticipating pain as her world blurred even faster. She had no way of orienting herself, and she realized in terror that she wasn't at all oriented correctly, and she had no time to fix it.
Something bro the fall slightly, but the left side of her face and her left shoulder still crashed painfully into the ground. She could feel something sharp dig into her forehead, scratching it as her and the blonde rolled. Other than that, her shoulder was slightly jarred, but compared to everything else, the cut on her head and her shoulder were nothing, even if the cut on the head caused a little dribble of blood to spill down her forehead.
"Thanks, Rainbow," Luka said, voice so husky, it could practically pull a dogsled. Mostly from the screaming earlier and her yell at the wolf, plus the pain in general. Her breath came out in pants, and she squinted her eyes as she stared at where Fenrir was going, vision getting blurrier and blurrier still. The giant wolf was chasing Theodore around, and Chiara's comparison to Tom and Jerry pulled a painful laugh that turned wheeze out of Luka, and the girl buckled more into Chiara.
"I'd throw something at him if I knew which one to hit," she wheezed out, weakly, leaning against Chiara, putting most of her weight on the girl as her arms curled over her torso where the top wounds were, collecting blood. However, her head lifted slightly after she said the words, eyes widening with epiphany and she looked over at her friend, specifically her bag. Looking at Chiara with a look of Are you thinking what I'm thinking, Luka wasted no time in taking the bag and ripping it open, letting her weight settle on Chiara as she started busying her hands.
"Behave yourself. The medical alcohol isn't digestible so don't even try to drink it," Luka could remember telling Laurie that, laughing with him as she used something similar to the isopropyl to clean his wounds. Alcohol, any type, was flammable.
Rolling together the bandages into a wick, pouring a slight amount of the alcohol onto it, and quickly shoved it into the full bottle, putting the lid best on and pulling the wick through the opening. Looking at her finger, she looked between the wick and Theodore, eyes widening as she snapped her fingers to ignite a flame.
Except it didn't work, she tried snapping another two times with the same result, growling under her breath, "come on, come on," she whispered, eyes narrowing, "come on, not now. Ignite, you bloody piece of shi-”
At that, she snapped again, and a bright flame flickered to life, and she immediately tossed it between her hands. Eyes widening before she threw the lit homemade Molotov at the wolf.

Guinevere Sharpe
Guinevere grabbed onto Griffin's arm, trying to stop him as he started approaching the two panicked leaders. She looked to Cleo for guidance, but their panic was quickly getting hidden behind their typical mask of indifference.
"No one's going," they stated, eyes narrowed, "that wolf is one of the monstrosities that ends the world in the Norse mythos, a bunch of idealistic people won't defeat it. We'll only endanger them more. That's final."
Whatever altercation there may have been was stopped when River came in. Guinevere was so caught up in the drama that she didn't hear him. He went up to the mic, demanding that everyone else move. Cleo seemed smart enough at least to listen, Guinevere had a feeling that if they tried to stand in his way, the boy would put the other leader down easily.
He started talking then to the leader on the other side, from the sounds of it, Luka was hurt, bad enough that she wasn't replying or joking. If she was in such bad shape, what about Theo or Ariella? What about Chiara?
Guinevere found herself worried for the little leader too, and went up, grabbing Griffin's arm for support, but also to show she was there.
"River?" The voice echoed slightly, and Guinevere sighed slightly in relief, at least one of the four was okay, "I-I can do that."
The rustling Guinevere heard sounded like Luka was messing with the earpiece, then suddenly there was a few crashes causing loud disturbances, and a new voice came across.
"River? Three injured, Theo's okay..." the rest droned on, Guinevere went silent at that information. Ariella was hurt then. That scared her. The wolf had the leader, and a loud curse by Chiara scared her more. It seemed it scared Cleo too, who also froze up and stared at the mic in horror.
"I've got Luka," Chiara replied, and a croaked voice thanking the girl indicated that Luka was retrieved from the wolf. However, now Theo seemed to be in danger.
This didn't answer anything about Ariella.
"What about Ariella?" Guinevere asked in a panic, looking at River, "she hasn't said how injured Ariella is."

Lucien held his ground when Griffin began approaching, the other boy angrily questioning the two leaders. He knew just like his own reaction, it was coming from a place of fear for his friends.
The boy felt supported, at least, that he wasn’t the only one feeling the way he was when Griffin also seemed to support the idea of joining the fight. Even though Guinevere intervened and then Cleo, he gave the other boy a nod of acknowledgment, a quiet statement that he appreciated and understood what the other boy was feeling and going through. That he felt the same.
Yet however much he wanted more than anything to argue with Cleo, he found he couldn’t. Lucien might hate that this was how things were, but it didn’t make it any less true. He wasn’t going to help the others by running out there, only give them one more person to worry about and risk getting so injured that he was unable to help them.
So he held his tongue, as upset and angry as he was about the whole thing.
Then the door to the leader’s room opened, and a familiar redheaded figure entered the room. Lucien felt a flood of relief, glad to see River was alright and grateful that he was there.
Lucien had been worried about River ever since the kidnapping but after a couple of initial attempts to apologise had quickly left River to have his space. He hadn’t stopped thinking about his friend, though. He felt guilty about letting him down that night. He could have been, should have been, so much better. And there was nothing he could do to make up for that aside from let River have the distance he needed for as long as he needed it. Lucien knew he’d want that space if it were him. He had no expectation of anything being the same any time soon, or possibly ever.
He stepped aside when River told him to move. As he did so and was briefly close to the man, the teenager couldn’t help but notice the wound on River’s neck, which was still not healing how it was supposed to. Lucien might not have a lot of medical knowledge, but he knew a wound should not still be bleeding like that. He didn’t want to overstep by offering to heal it, especially after River had rejected his healing before, but perhaps he could offer later when they weren’t in front of everyone. Or perhaps River would be more comfortable if Lucien just got him some supplies from the Medbay if he didn’t want directly healing from Lucien or wanted to care for the wound himself in his own space. He didn’t know, and this was far from the right time to find out. Still, he made a mental note of the state of the injury.
His racing heart seemed to calm, first after Cleo’s very firm shutting down of any idea of his of going out to help, and then after hearing River speak steadily and calmly to Luka.
His worry for his friends had been helping nobody. More than that, him letting the pressure and fear he was feeling personally rule him was actively harming his friends and the mission. The most helpful he could have been would have been to stay calm and help Luka formulate a plan.
Yes, he was angry and hurt. Yes, he was afraid for his friends. And yes, he was under a lot of pressure and frustrated at his helplessness. Life as an ascendant was not fair, he had come to realise since his choosing. But it was not going to get any fairer this way. He could not let any of it get in the way of being there for his friends in the way that they needed, not necessarily the way he might want.
Maybe that was what being a leader meant. It didn’t make him any more convinced he was capable of being one, but maybe that was a later battle to fight.
He took a deep breath, forcing himself to actually focus on what Luka and Chiara were saying as their voices came though the earpieces rather than how hurt Luka had sounded when she’d spoken.
”They need to stay in pairs if they can” Lucien found himself noting hesitantly after a moment ”Buddy system. Ideally whoever is least injured or best offensively could split the other two between them.”
Normally that would mean Ariella and Luka as the best two offensively, being excellent all-round fighters, splitting the more defensively-based Theo and Chiara between them. But that depended on how hurt everyone was.
He knew River would have already thought about all these things and he was most likely stating the obvious, but he wanted anything other than to sit there and let this happen.
He was no strategist like River and Ares, but he could at the very least try to be useful and offer suggestions. Try and focus on something else.

Dillon’s suggestion and explanation did little to reassure Irene, as she stared back at him with a frown drawn on her face, “I appreciate the concern, but it's not a good compromise. Don’t put my safety over the other kids, Dillon, I can handle myself just fine.”
To her, the boy’s proposal was no better than him staying in Venice the whole time with her. She didn’t want him to focus all his concern on what may or may not happen to her when the others were in more immediate danger. The leaders needed all the help they could get, it seemed selfish to push that aside for her sake. Especially when she didn’t feel she needed the help.
“Being worried is fine, if it eases your mind I’ll keep in touch or let you visit, but you have to keep your priorities in check. It's been bad enough since the River stuff… “ Irene paused, not bothering to finish her thought because she figured Dillon would understand what she was talking about. That mission was already a shit show, and the argument that followed was somehow even worse. Something that should have been a learning experience just descending into petty insults about River having the audacity to have to save his boyfriend from dying. Leading to one of the most ill-conceived ‘compromises’ in all of history.
Not everything deserves a compromise like that.
“I’ll keep in touch, sure,” Irene responded, leaning back as she rested on the side of the bed, “but don’t let us distract you from the bigger picture, you wouldn’t want to be a hypocrite.”

Lorenzo Alexander
Lorenzo listened to Dillon and Irene speak, his eyes clues to his hands, fiddling with his key, his ring with the emblem of the sun. His mind scattered as it thought of all that happened, Gwen and her attack, Irene falling (and being abandoned), and Felicia's involvement.
He leaned his head against the wall, listening to the two speak. They were talking about the Pantheon, what had happened to the others. Irene was suggesting Dillon go back, permanently, and even though the thought hurt, Enzo did agree. Whatever was going on, the others needed as much help as they could get.
He stood, pondering back into the room and crossing his arms as he leaned against the door, sighing softly, "I can stay with Irene," he suggested, glancing at Dillon then Irene, "you'll need a translator after all."
His eyes focused on both, tapping his foot as he glanced between them.

Irene did not approve of Dillon’s idea to split his time somewhat between the Pantheon and Venice. She reminded him of what happened with River, told him he needed to keep his priorities in check.
He knew she was right on that front. He couldn’t be there for everyone, no matter how much he might want to be, and he was well aware of that. He wanted to be there for Irene and Enzo in Venice but he had to focus on where he was most needed.
”You wouldn’t want to be a hypocrite.”
Those words hit him like a physical slap. The reminder of what he had done in that meeting with River, where he had supported the idea of a separation between River and Laurie, at least temporarily. He swallowed, a fresh wave of guilt flooding through him.
Was Irene speaking generally, or was she not blind to feelings that Dillon had barely acknowledged himself and had not even expressed to anyone yet, much less Enzo? He didn’t know. But it didn’t really matter, because her point stood either way. He could not let what he wanted get in the way of what the wider group needed.
”More than ever this fractured group needs a steadying force,” Hera’s voice was reminding him ”The girl is right. You must not lose clarity on where you are needed.”
It seemed he was truly outnumbered, for even Hera made a rare choice to speak up and make her opinion known in support of Irene. He had to think Hera’s sudden warmth towards the girl had to do something to do with Zeus abandoning her.
As if to drive the point even further home, Enzo appeared in the doorway, leaning against it as he said that he would stay with Irene in the meantime. Dillon sighed, but he nodded. It really was for the best, even if it didn’t feel that way at all.
”Alright,” he agreed ”as long as you have one another I’m satisfied. Enzo knows this city, and that way nobody is on their own.”
That was all he cared about in terms of the practicalities, making sure everyone involved was safe.
His hand moved to his key. A watch around his wrist, with a peacock feather on the face. The young Brit’s ticket back to the Pantheon, which he would very soon be using.
He nodded, taking a deep breath.
”Okay, I’ll head back. Update the others, get more information about what’s happening. See how I can help. You guys look after each other. I’ll keep you both updated, and if anything changes out here or there’s anything you need, let me know. I’ll visit when things are more stable back home.”
They hadn’t planned for such a long trip, so if they needed supplies (especially medical supplies after the fight) he could arrange to get those to them.

Chiara was at least encouraged that Luka was able to laugh at her Tom and Jerry joke. It meant she wasn’t on the absolute brink of death, at least. But the girl would need some serious medical attention, and quickly. If Lucien could be considered serious medical attention. At best he was very angsty medical attention.
Luka said something about how she’d throw something if she knew which wolf to hit - which same, Chiara had experienced a bit of the lovely double vision from Fenrir that Luka was experiencing not too long before. But both girls seemed to have an epiphany, sharing a look.
If this worked? It could be the thing that got them out of here.
Chiara had seen what was in the medical kit before and knew exactly what the other girl was thinking. She slipped the bag off her shoulder and gave it to Luka, continuing to support the other girl as she busied herself with her task.
She listened to River’s instructions. They helped to hear, helped a lot. Chiara liked nothing more than having a plan, and this one was ideal. Her original idea had been to have Ariella open the portal and get Luka out while Chiara went for Theo. But she really only had use of one arm and couldn’t catch Theo, and Theo’s leg was injured and she couldn’t be sure of his ability to run. Ariella, though her shoulder was injured, may be able to carry him. It made sense.
”I can do that.” she answered the leader ”No, don’t send anyone, it’s too risky. Having trouble keeping us all alive as it is.”
With the new instructions, Chiara made eye contact with Ariella not too far away.
”Ariella, forget the portal, I’ll do it!” she yelled ”If you can, be ready to run and get Theo and get him back here okay? Luka and I will cover you”
This move could be their getaway strategy. For it to work, she’d need to let Ariella get Theo and help him to safety, since she was probably the most capable of doing so in that moment. In the meantime she could focus on getting a portal going and covering Ariella.
Either way there was little time to adjust the plan because a bright flame sprung to life right before Chiara’s eyes. Luka’s homemade Molotov was made, and Chiara watched as the girl launched it towards the wolf.
She readied herself, the hand on her uninjured arm moving to the Gjallarhorn charm on her key. She was prepared.
When the Molotov made contact, Chiara twisted the charm, breathing a relieved sight at the sight of a shimmering portal. She’d keep it open as long as it took to get everyone through it. Once she knew Ariella had Theo, she and Luka could cover the pair until they were safe.
Only then could they start getting people through the portal.

The comment didn’t seem to go over well with Fenrir, a fact that was clear when the wolf suddenly tossed Theo higher up. A yelp escaped his lips and time seemed to slow to a crawl as his mind raced around his head, trying to think of any possible solution for his current predicament. There was none.
The force of the throw was enough to weaken his grip on his sword, tumbling out of his grasp and out of reach. On descent, he made out the teeth of the beast as Fenrir lunged for his head. However, a sudden fiery mass blindsided the wolf, and the boy was no longer at risk of losing his head.
Instead he was left to freefall about 15 ft, and he couldn’t tell if he were better or worse off.
Heart racing and with shallow panicked breaths, Theo repositioned himself midair so his head wasn’t leading. With his back now to the ground, the boy clenched his eyes closed and braced for the inevitable impact.

Just by watching Dillon’s expression, Irene could tell she’d punched a nerve somewhere. Good, it was something she felt he needed to hear because of the type of person he was. Easy to get along with and is generally out for people’s best interests. He was someone she’d consider a good person. However, good people can still do shitty things. The choice to have River and Laurie take a break was just one such example.
Irene wasn’t sure of the extent of Dillon and Enzo’s relationship other than they were close and spent a lot of time with each other. What she did know was her fellow leader’s words in the meeting, how love was some kind of distraction, and implied it was dangerous for people in their position to have. She didn’t think he believed what he said, and there the problem lied.
She didn’t want them all to be miserable because of that decision, but she couldn’t in good conscience let it be forgotten when people were still hurt. If it made her the bad guy, she didn’t really care.
When Enzo entered the room and offered to stay, Irene gave him a nod of acknowledgement. She didn’t want to admit it, but she really would need his help surviving. He knew the language and the city, she didn’t, it was as simple as that. As well it seemed to ease Dillon’s mind somewhat.
“Thank you,” Irene replied, both to Dillon for listening to her and to Enzo for sticking with her while she got stuff sorted.
“And Dillon, for my final order before medical leave- take care of yourself and don’t go spreading yourself thin you hear? Or else I’m going to hear about it and no amount of god f*ckery is going to stop me from making sure you get a good night’s sleep. That's for you and the rest of you heathens.”

Throwing a thumbs up to Chiara as her only response she understood, Ariella was watching Theo and Fenrir. Trying to find an opening to get to her friend and get away from the giant wolf. She was poised to run, ready to fight the giant wolf face to face yet again if she needed too.
If there was one thing that had been consistent during this fight is that Fenrir tended to play with his food. And usually by-
There he went. Tossed up into the air and helplessly free falling towards the waiting jaws of the monster.
Ariella sprinted forward, eyes darting between Theo and Fenrir, ready to hurt Fenrir in some way before catching Theo. That was her plan until the wolf suddenly started hopping and pawing at his shoulder. Flames climbed higher on his fur and dared to lick his face as he started rolling on the ground, trying to put it out.
Now, her focus was solely on Theo. She realized she should started running earlier and misjudged just how fast he would be falling. She had to push herself to make it, ignore the screaming pain in her leg so her friend wouldn't splat against the ground.
Diving forward she managed to get him in her arms for a moment. It was enough to break his speed but she didn't have a good grip, so they both went rolling and sprawling across the ground. The pain in her shoulders was really starting to hurt. Adrenaline was finally wearing off and she felt woozy. Probably because of blood loss.
Scrambling to her she touched her less injured shoulder and took a breath eyes wide. "Holy sh*t-" It was all she allowed herself to mutter in shock and pain before going to Theo, grabbing his arm, and pulling him up.
"I'm ready to go, you ready to go?" she breathed and gave him a small smile. Glancing behind her she realized the Wolf was starting to get back up, flames dead or dying, smoke filtering off his seared flesh and burnt fur. Oh he looked so angry. "Go. Go go go!"
Ariella took off towards Chiara's portal. She had her arm linked with Theo's so she didn't leave him behind or she could pick him up if she needed to. Regardless, she was sprinting down the field, pushing through pain and dizziness.

The landing was rough to say the least. Before the impact he felt someone momentarily catch him in midair before the both of them tumbled to the ground. His fall was broken thankfully, but he still felt a jolt of pain when he made contact with the dirt. If he were to describe it, it was like slipping and crashing down on a patch of ice; it was cold and everywhere felt sore. He probably would have stayed on the ground for another minute or two if Ariella wasn’t coaxing him up to his feet.
“Probably???” Theo expressed in a pained voice, watching her with widened eyes. On surface level he seemed fine, albeit shaky from the fall. His torn pant leg that was covered in drool and dried blood gave him a slight chill from the cold air, but he wasn’t feeling anything immediately dangerous.
First for everything.
When Fenrir started to stir, Theo felt a sharp tug from the taller girl and the two immediately sprinted to where the others were waiting. Every muscle in his body burned from the action, his breaths were pained, and his heart pounded so hard it might explode. The only thing stopping him from collapsing into a heap of exhaustion and pain was the overwhelming desire to leave.
With the portal drawing closer, the boy briefly glanced back at the angered beast. He pointed a finger back at him, and with as much magic as he could muster, he called back in a sweet voice, “you wait back there please! We’ll be right back.” Was it stupid? Very, but the second he passed through the portal, it didn’t matter either way.

The leaders’ room was tense. It had not passed Lucien by the way a clearly frightened Griffin was comforting Guiney. River was right about not making others panic, but clearly this wasn’t the solution to the situation either.
Lucien himself was coping better, but he was still by no means enjoying the sounds he was hearing through the earpiece. He was agitated, anxious, could feel his stomach turning as he listened to his friends. But through the instructions he could hear being shouted on the battlefield he also knew that the others would be returning any moment.
As much as the boy wanted to wait for their return, he knew he was more needed elsewhere. He’d prepped the Medbay prior to the mission but he thought he had better be there ready for them.
He slipped off his leather jacket, putting it over the back of the chair he normally sat in during leaders’ meetings. He didn’t want to risk the zips when he was dealing with injured people. He then tucked the dogtags River had given him inside his t-shirt so they wouldn’t get in the way either before turning his attention to Cleo.
”I’m going to Medbay.” he said, ”Get them to me as quickly as you can when they’re through.”
That was all the explanation he offered. He needed out, and he needed time to set up and calm down before the others returned. He passed River, placing a hand on his shoulder lightly as he passed as a silent thank you for his help. He didn’t think he could express the words how glad he was to see River back and how grateful he was for his help, but he hoped he could convey it there.
And with that, he headed towards the door, pausing by Griffin and Guinevere. He could offer to get them out of the room for now, helping both them and River.
”You guys can come with me if you want,” he offered quietly, before brushing past the pair.
He pulled the door open, disappearing and heading down the hallways towards the Medbay. He didn’t know what situation he was going to have to deal with, but he had a fairly bad feeling about it based on what he’d heard.
He needed to collect himself, and prepare.
Upon entering the room, he instantly set to work. He washed his hands at a sink in the corner and started to lay out supplies next to four of the beds, unsure of exactly how much healing each team member would need but wanting to be prepared anyway. He didn’t know what supplies would he needed for each person, so he started to lay out some more generic things just in case.
He could grab more specific things once he saw what he was dealing with.

Chiara was relieved to see their plan go off without much of a hitch. Luka’s Molotov had the desired effect, even if it did mean Theo took a less than pleasant fall. That being said, he seemed relatively uninjured and Ariella got to him without incident aside from what looked like some pain, which at this point was par for tbe course.
The wolf was stirring, and Chiara kept the portal open as her two friends ran, ushering them towards her and the portal. They had very little time with the wolf recovering, so they had to be quick.
Ariella didn’t look great, and Chiara did feel bad about her having to go running for Theo. In fairness she would have been a better option than Chiara with her injuries, but still it must not be pleasant for her undoubtedly.
”Go, go!” she called to her friends, none too happy with the sight of Fenrir recovered from the Molotov. Quickly, far too quickly.
She would have to give Ariella the biggest hug and thank you after this. And if she had any children, she possibly owed her her firstborn for what the other girl had done for everyone in this mission.
Chiara was also more than ready to go home. At this point she was starting to see double, and the tourniquet Luka had tied was only doing so much to help her bleeding arm. She didn’t know how much longer she could keep standing, and supporting Luka was possibly the only thing keeping her on her feet at this point.
Once the other two were through the portal, she had to get herself and Luka through. The wolf was rapidly approaching and so she continued to support the other girl and staggered through the portal with her friend in tow, only barely avoiding a furious Fenrir.

Luka Ravina
Luka was nearing what some scholars call Class 3 Hemorrhagic Shock, or in layman's terms, uh, that's a lotta damage. Intelligibly, she looked down, poking at the wound and looking back at Chiara, "I need flextape," she said, deadly serious.
Her gaze flickered like an overly excited puppy when Fenrir caught on fire and Theodore fell, her gaze following the boy and blinking erratically for a moment. Her pulse and breath was much too fast, beating wildly in her ears, and her skin felt clammy and cold.
However, her distracted mind caught sight of Fenrir seeming effected by the flames. With narrowed eyes, her hands came to her sides, a bright flame ignited as she went to take a step forward, however, her body seemed the crumble under the weight, falling back a bit into Chiara's uninjured arm as she breathed out harshly. She wanted to distract that stupid wolf more, keep him distracted, and fire had worked it seemed. Her body refused to cooperate, though.
"If Clem thinks Luce had dadd' issues, they don' know Fenr' very well," Luka pointed out unhelpfully, closing her eyes to stave off dizziness, her accent heavy on the words. It seemed Ariella and Theo were going into the portal, and Chiara was helping guide her through. That was good, very good, very neat. Wolf was kind of close though. That's not good.
As they went through the portal, Luka's blurred vision seemed to get worse as effect of the magic, her nausea feeling worse for a moment before she glared directly at the ground. Seemed familiar now, that's good. Her eyes narrowed as she tried to identify it. This place seemed familiar, what was it called again?
"We're in the Pants-lion!" She explained a bit unhelpfully, staggering away from Chiara and promptly falling onto the floor like a sack of bloody potatoes.

River didn't look in Lucien's direction again. He let him touch his shoulder but even that he wanted to flinch away from. He didn't want to be touched especially in a situation where he was so high strung. But, instead he stared down at the table the mic was on and waited anxiously for the other champions to come home.
They could all hear the screaming and orders being tossed between the fighting ascendents. Closest of course was Chiara since she had the earpiece. Luka distant but still somewhat intelligible.
Griffin nodded in response to Lucien and looked back down at Guiney. "I'm gonna go help," he muttered quietly to her. He held her tighter and kissed her head gently. He wasn't sure if he was shaking or see was. Maybe both from how worried they were. But he swallowed and pulled away a bit to look down at her. "They're ok," he insisted right before he left.
He sounded like he was trying to make himself believe it. But between the screaming, slurred words, and the stupidly loud wolf noises coming through he couldn't just stand here and listen anymore. He was at least going to help the injured when they came through. Because they all were going to come through. They had to.
More moments passed of the room simply waiting and listening. Hoping all of the ascendents that came through would be ok. Ok enough to make a full recovery with Lucien's help.
Waited as they screamed for each other to run.
Ariella and Theo came through first, crashing to the ground. Right after them were Chiara and Luka followed by a furious snarl that echoed through the room.
Besides, Theo and his torn pant leg they all looked really bad. Bleeding, mangled bodies that they had managed to still get working enough to come back to the pantheon. It felt like everyone held their breath for a moment as the four finally realized they were back home.
Ariella immediately got to her feet and pointed that the two girls first. "Take Luka and Chiara first," she insisted. She was holding her shoulder that looked a little out of place. Meanwhile her face, her other shoulder, and her thigh were all still bleeding. Blood was running down her neck and down her arm. The way she was favoring her right leg indicated that she was in a lot of pain. And though she was wearing dark clothing, it didn't hide the fact that they looked wet. "I'm ok right now. Take them first."
River stepped forward to say something but she held up and hand and leaned over panting. "I'm coming just-" she stopped and closed her eyes trying to focus on words. "Just lemme catch my breath."
River nodded and moved towards Luka and Chiara. Glancing at Cleo he pointed at them then at Chiara. "I got her, help Chiara," he instructed. Not waiting for an answer, River took Luka's arm and draped it over his shoulders, wrapped his arms around her back and under her knees, and lifted her into a one-person lift.
Moving as swiftly but carefully as possible he took off towards the medbay, heart pounding as he tried not to look at Luka's chewed through body.

Clementine Lester
Clementine let River take over easily enough, taking the time to focus on their own panic. How did everything go so wrong? They'd planned every little thing, scoured ever blueprint they could, no one should have been awake.
No one had accounted for the Exiled letting the wolf have free-range. Cleo had assumed the wolf would be caged or shackled.
Apparently not.
When Guinevere panicked and River snapped at her, Cleo looked on impassively. Griffin told the girl he was going to help Lucien in the medbay, and the girl nodded, looking at all of them before following after her crush, eyes sad and worried. She'd grown close to Griffin, Ariella, and Laurie. Laurie was gone, and Ariella was injured. It made since she'd go with the person she was closest with and help Lucien prepare.
Cleo would have to do that too, keep Lucien grounded.
The mission kids were yelling at each other, and it seemed they were coming back through the portal, as one fizzled to life before River and Cleo. Soon, Ariella and Theo came through, followed soon by Chiara and Luka and a loud snarl from that giant wolf that had even Cleo flinching back.
None of them looked good, Theo appeared in the best shape with just an injured leg. Ariella was still standing, resilient, but bleeding from various places, her thigh, her shoulder looked...horrid, and she had blood on her collar, seeming to barely miss her throat. Chiara looked terrible, as if her arm was barely held in place by tissue, bleeding profusely and leaving drops on the floor. Luka looked terrible too, blood seeming to spew from multiple places on her torso and both of her thighs, and the girl fell too once it seemed she realized she was in a safe enough place to do so.
Shocked, Cleo didn't move at first. Then River commanded they get Chiara while he got Luka, and he went to scoop the injured girl from her spot. The girl wasn't unconscious, but clearly out of it, hissing when the boy picked her up but relaxing fairly soon after, eyes remaining closed as her quick breaths escaped her.
When he went on his way, Cleo turned to the remaining girls, "Ariella, Guinevere and Griffin are very worried about you, even if you plan to wait to be healed, you should go see them, they're in the medbay," Cleo stated, eyes angled at her, nodding once, "thank you for everything you did to keep them and yourself alive."
Hoping the girl would listen, as Guinevere and Griffin would give her firstaid until Lucien could take a look at her, they went over to Chiara, offering their arm to the girl, and lowering themselves so she could hook an arm around their shoulders, placing on gently around hers too, and beginning to slowly get the girl to the medbay where Lucien was waiting, voice soft, "that goes for all of you. You all did very good. You should all be proud of yourselves."

The Champion of Heimdallr was relieved to find herself supported by Cleo somewhat. She realised now just how much she needed it, now the adrenaline of the fight was gone. She’d lost a lot of blood and her head still didn’t feel right.
She seemed better than Luka, though, who had barely been intelligible and much less actually making sense when they got through the portal. Her blood loss had clearly been intense.
She lifted the hand from her uninjured arm, clawing at her ear to remove the earpiece and dropping it on the table as she and Cleo passed. She didn’t need that thing anymore, she didn’t want it anymore.
Normally Cleo’s compliments of the team would have sparked some surprise from Chiara, but she felt too woozy to do much more than register it.
They were soon heading towards the Medbay, entering shortly after Luka had arrived. Lucien had been awaiting them, and Chiara saw the horrified look wash across the boy’s face as he took in the injuries of the two girls.
Judging by his face, he was just starting to scratch the surface of how much this was about to hurt. Still, it didn’t stop him and he didn’t hesitate to gesture to two of the beds.
”Get them on the beds,” he said, before looking at Cleo ”I need to make sure Luka is stable, can you make sure Chiara isn’t losing too much blood?”
Luka was his first priority. Chiara was losing blood, but she had at least a tourniquet to stem the flow of blood. The blonde girl moved to sit on the bed with Cleo’s help, and only then did she dare look at the wound for the first time since it had been inflicted.
Deep puncture marks, a bloody mangled mess a little lower on her upper arm than the last set of bite injuries from the wolf. The concerning thing was that it didn’t hurt really. She tried to make it move, willing first her fingers to move. She tried to lift her index finger, and was relieved to see it did move a little. Then she tried to move her arm out a little from her body. She couldn’t get it to move anywhere near as much as she wanted to, and it was a lot slower and took more effort, but it was moving a little bit. It wasn’t doing good at all, but it could be worse.
______
Meanwhile Lucien had approached Luka, unable to keep the worry out of his expression as he looked over his best friend. His eyes had a panic in them as they took in her injuries.
”You’re alright, Lukes.” he was promising her, as stupid as lie as it was ”You’re okay. Just try and stay awake for me, okay? Pretend it’s that time Cleo tried to give us a curfew.”
To be fair, Cleo had tried to give them that curfew after he and Luka had arrived back at the pantheon at about 2 o’clock in the morning that time after an outing. Still, that attempt by Cleo to get the two of them to have some decent sleep hadn’t gone the way they had intended. All it had done was make Lucien and Luka stay up out of spite.
”She’s bleeding too much” he murmured, though he didn’t know who to. River? Cleo? Griffin? He didn’t know. He could be speaking to any of them, all of them, or nobody at all. He didn’t care. ”far too much.”
He moved to his supplies, grabbing some gauze. He might not have any medical qualifications, but since he’d become healer he’d tried to do at least a little bit of research. He had to know how to do some healing outside of just what his powers could do, enough to make sure people were stable enough to be healed.
He put the gauze on the injury that was bleeding most profusely, and pressed his hand down to apply pressure. It wouldn’t by any means stop all of it, and Luka was bleeding from many places, but it would help. His frown deepened at the amount of her body that was injured. Her torso was particularly concerning; injuries to the gut or stomach were nothing to be messed with.
If she was going to survive, she needed to be healed right that moment.
He took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself for what he was about to go through. He planted his other arm on the edge of the bed to support himself, and closed his eyes.
Please, Apollo.
The pain was one of the worst he’d experienced when healing somebody. His legs almost buckled when it hit him; he probably wouldn’t have been able to stand if he didn’t have his hand steadying him.
He understood exactly why Luka had screamed that blood-curdling scream earlier, he himself crying out. The pain spread across both his legs and across his torso, and it felt like his flesh was tearing.
God, if he ever faced that wolf he was using him for target practice.
When the pain finally subsided he wobbled slightly on his feet, but opened his eyes.

The second Theo came through the other side of the portal, his legs gave out and he and Ariella went crashing to the ground. The adrenaline that pushed him to run all the way there had run out. For a few moments he remained sprawled out on the ground, his arms resting over his head as he attempted to get his breathing under control. They’d made it back alive, thankfully.
Ariella was standing up, making sure Luka and Chiara got medical attention as soon as possible, but the boy could tell she was also exhausted. She needed help as much as they did, but she seemed too out of breath to move from where she was. He couldn’t blame her, he felt similar.
“You all did very good.”
Cleo’s words to the rest of them seemed genuine, but Theo couldn’t help but feel hollow by them. It certainly didn’t make him feel better about the whole situation and how everything went wrong even before they left. He wasn’t ready for a pat on the back by them of all people.
As Luka and Chiara were quickly taken out of the room by River and Cleo, that left him and Ariella alone momentarily to catch their breaths. Theo managed to drag himself to the wall and sit upright as the aching in his body started to kick in. The fire in his blood was dying out and he couldn’t bring himself to stand. His legs felt weak alongside his sore back. If he wasn’t worried for the others, he would have passed out in exhaustion by this point.
“So, how you feeling?” Theo asked Ariella between breaths. It felt like a dumb question when she was obviously not doing the best, but it didn’t hurt to check, “sounds like Guiney and Griffin are waiting for you. That's good.”

Ariella frowned at the compliment from Cleo. Nothing about what had just happened help like a good thing. They weren't able to get to their friends and they weren't able to even keep inspecting the base any more than they had before being chased off by the giant guard dog.
She watched as River and Cleo took Luka and Chiara down to the medbay leaving just her and Theo to catch their breath.
The ascendent looked towards Theo when he asked how she was doing. She shrugged then winced at the action. "I'm ok," she grunted. She sounded so tired. Like she might collapse any second from exhaustion. "I might be the next one to bleed out but... ok," she managed to get out. Her breaths were easing into a steadier rhythm, but he body was starting to sway and shake.
Extending her hand out to Theo, she gave him a gentle smile. "Come on. Let's go join the others. Make sure they're ok too."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Griffin did his best to help Lucien set up supplies but he wasn't exactly sure what everything what or what everything did. So, he started grabbing stuff and organizing it to the side. Easy to see easy to grab.
From there he didn't do much else. Waited for the hurt ones to come through. Waited to see Luka, Chiara, Theo, and Ariella. Selfishly he wished that Ari wasn't the most hurt one out of them. He didn't know if he could keep it together.
Then in came River, holding a crumbled Luka in his arms. Blood covered her little body and he could see large bite marks. His breath caught in his throat and he blinked in surprise. Then in came Cleo with Chiara and her arm, the same arm that already had scars on it from the last time she fought Fenrir was also chewed through.
He didn't see Ariella or Theo though. The more he waited for the two to come through the door the more panicked he became. "Where's-"
"She's right behind us," River interrupted, setting Luka down where Lucien had instructed. He backed up and looked at the red now staining his clothes and skin. His brows furrowed and he scowled at the sight. "Let her catch her breath she'll be in here."
Griffin swallowed hard and nodded. As River backed away he looked around awkwardly trying to figure out what he could do now. Lucien was saying something about how Luka was losing too much blood. He moved closer and practically had to keep Lucien on his feet before he could double over.
"Are you ok?" He asked once Lucien opened his eyes.
River watched from the back of the room. Making sure Luka was healed enough to function and Lucien was still standing after the ordeal. Once it was done, he took his leave of the room. He headed back up to where he had dropped his things before running into the meeting room. From there he headed back up to his room to change.
"Well done," Ares spoke softly with a little hint of a tease in his voice.
River rolled his eyes and slung his bag over his shoulder as he climbed the stairs. "Shut up," he hissed quietly.
“Oh, bleeding out isn't good,” Theo breathed, “I’ve done it before, it's not fun.” He only realized how concerning that sounded until after he said it. Worst part being he wasn’t lying about it. How could he forget the day some demon girl nearly killed him and later had the audacity to feed it to that wolf. The two of them made him wish he could have normal problems again.
When Ariella offered him a hand, he gave her a tired smile, “yeah, that's a good idea. Though I think you should get looked at too.” He could tell she was also tired, and about as injured as the other two. Being injured while also running around and punching giant wolves sounded exhausting.
He reached one hand out to her and another out to a nearby table, using both to help drag himself up and balance on his feet again. Part of him just wanted to sit there and rest more. His legs still felt weak, but he figured he could hold out until after he made sure everyone was ok.
Once the three were stabilized, he’d be able to sleep the ache away.
Guinevere was worried. First she had lost Laurie, and now she may lose Ariella, and the idea terrified her. She seemed to calm with Griffin near, and curled her head into him when he held her. The forehead kiss seemed to calm her more, and she nodded when he said he'd go help the others. After he left to help Lucien, she took a final glance at the room and went to help him and Lucien set up.
Shortly after they started prepping the room, Cleo and River came in with Chiara and Luka respectively. Cleo got Chiara sat on one of the tables while Lucien went to tend to Luka. The Chosen of Loki was barely clinging to consciousness at this point, eyes fluttering between closing and staying open. When River brought her in, her unfocused gaze found Lucien, seeming almost worried for the boy for moments before they closed. Before River even set her down, it seemed her battle with staying awake was won. Her body seemed to realize it was safe now.
Cleo in turn worked on a tourniquet for Chiara's arm, well, a new one. Instead of over the cut, Cleo focused on above to cut off some of the blood supply, slowing the bleeding a bit. Lucien would need a bit, especially with that cry that rang throughout the room. They winced on behalf of him and quickly left Chiara side to go support him, placing an arm on his shoulder and looking at him in worry, "they don't need healed completely, just enough to keep them alive, you can do it," they whispered, looking at Griffin who was also supporting the boy and making sure to soften their voice, something they didn't often do, "could you get some water for everyone? Lucien's going to need something to keep him on his feet, and we need to get the other's rehydrated."
It appeared River was heading out, knowing everyone was safe. Cleo opened their mouth to demand he return, but was cut off by Guinevere. Probably for the best anyways, given everything.
"What about their bloodloss?" Guinevere asked, approaching the small group, "Luka and Chiara both lost a lot of blood, and Lucien's healing...can it replenish the lost blood?"
It was a good question, Cleo glanced at Lucien to see if he was in any shape to answer. They still spoke, sighing, "even if not, that's why water is important. It'll help give them the hydration they need to make more. We'll need to focus on keeping them stable until then. Lucien too."
When Lucien opened his eyes, Luka’s injuries looked better but she was very much unconscious. His stomach twisted for his friend. He could only hope he’d done enough, that he’d gotten there in time.
He was a little unsteady on his feet, and immediately found Griffin moving to support him. His head felt so woolly he almost couldn’t reply.
”Fine,” his voice was gruff.
Cleo came to support him too, reminding him he didn’t need to heal everyone all the way. He didn’t mind that idea, as sensible as he knew it was. He couldn’t spread himself too thin, but he’d do his damndest to make sure everyone was as healed as he could get them.
”I’m fine,” he repeated, voice clearer this time as his head began to feel better again ”It’s them we need to worry about.”
Guinevere was asking about the bloodloss, and Lucien didn’t have an answer. It was only when Apollo advised him in the negative that Lucien gave a grunt in dissent, shook his head before finally fully straightening up.
”No, but if I don’t help the others first they’ll lose too much blood too.” Lucien answered ”She’s stable for now.”
He’d come back to her.
Now the pain was gone from his legs, they felt a little like jelly but nowhere near as bad as when he’d been healing Luka. His next move was over to Chiara, who at least was sitting up and conscious even if she was losing blood.
The girl had a new tourniquet, which she’d barely had time to woozily thank Cleo for before they’d rushed to help Lucien. The boy stopped in front of her, examining the injured arm.
”Same arm?” he asked ”You’re gonna have to start taking insurance out on this thing.”
So Lucien was fine, clearly.
Chiara gave a sarcastic laugh in response to his joke, but Lucien’s next question was in earnest.
”Can you move it?”
”Not much.”
”Feel anything?”
A shake of the head. Lucien’s lips thinned in concern. He didn’t say anything, but he didn’t need to for Chiara to know that it worried him. And she wasn’t stupid, she knew exactly why.
Regardless, Lucien closed his eyes once again.
This pain, in many ways, was more manageable than the one from healing Luka. It was incredibly painful, but it was only localised around his arm as opposed to a large area of his body. The pain was blinding, and it felt like a pressure down to his very bones. But then suddenly an even stronger flash of pain like an electric shock, and then nothing. It was over much more quickly than Luka’s pain, even though it was intense.
When he opened his eyes, Chiara’s wound looked much better, but the girl looked concerned. He watched her fingers twitch, her arm move weakly. It was better than before, but not at full strength. Her expression was of someone having a dreadful fear confirmed. Like she’d thought this might happen but didn’t want to believe it.
”I still can’t… I still can’t move it well.” she swallowed, and in that moment looked vulnerable. He could understand that. She couldn’t trust her own body to do what it used to, or what she wanted it to.
Lucien’s head was ringing but still her statement reached him, and he struggled for a moment to find the words to reply. And not just because he felt like his brain had turned to molasses for a second.
”Damaged nerves, they need time to heal on their own.” A fact he had learned from Pascal, so the boy had no need for Apollo’s explanation of why he couldn’t heal this aspect of Chiara’s injury. But he did his best to reassure her, ”but they should heal on their own eventually.”
Most likely, anyway.
He met her eyes as he spoke those words, trying to drive the point home so she didn’t worry or panic. Chiara just nodded.
Lucien wasn’t feeling too great after two heavy rounds of healing, but he vaguely was aware of instructing Chiara to get some rest. She’d need it, to help replenish that lost blood. His head was a little fuzzy on what was next.
Ariella and Theo. Where were Ariella and Theo? River had said Ariella was following behind, at least, but Lucien had no idea what he was about to deal with in terms of Ariella’s injuries.
”How bad were Ariella and Theo?” he asked, so he could at least be prepared for what he was about to face. It was more a general question to the room, anyone who could answer.
”You’re doing well, kid.” he could hear Apollo in the back of his head, ”Take it slowly. The chosen of Ma’at is right, you must pace yourself.”
Cleo being right? There was one for the books.
Lane supposed she shouldn’t have been surprised by the girl’s sentiments, but they shocked her nonetheless. Perhaps living like Styx had could eventually breed a callousness in a person.
That was a terrifying thought. If she continued as she was, would she become this way? Would the humanity leach out of her until she no longer cared about anything at all?
”Maybe you and I just have different ideas of what makes a person worthy.” was her reply ”Maybe you have to respect life to deserve it.”
Did someone who would take life from someone else just so they could have it deserve to live? Lane didn’t know the answer to that.
But she prayed that what she saw here in Styx was not her future.
Then the girl laughed at Lane’s apparent lack of knowledge before fixing those red eyes on the girl. Her voice rang out uncomfortably in Lane’s head, almost like when Hermes spoke to her.
Arke. Who the hell was Arke?
“Iris’ sister.” Hermes’ voice was grim ”She served the Titans as messenger during the Titan war while Iris served the Olympians. After the war Zeus stripped Arke of her wings and cast her down to Tartarus. We don’t talk about her, especially not around Iris.”
Okay, context. Valuable context that explained a lot. Arke was too obscure of a goddess for Lane to have known anything about her before; she was no mythology buff like some of the others.
She was also more than a little freaked out by the mind-talk, even though she’d witnessed Styx’s influence on the mind before. She’d encountered the girl in her very first fight with the ascendants.
”Get the hell out of my head.” Lane said sharply ”Hermes did this to me for a reason, and it wasn’t so I could hurt anyone else for my own gain. That’s what I’m here to stop you and your friends from doing.”
