i was joking around with a friend when this idea popped up - naturally, i had to run with it to see where it goes and i'm actually kinda excited for this one! if anyone's interested i would love help just in terms of organization and, if we get the clan off the group, keeping the clan running :3
the premise so, the general premise surrounds a group of cats who have survived a strange catastrophe that they don't understand - all they know is that the outside air is dangerous, the twolegs are gone, and kits are born with strange features that only grow stranger. The dangers outside have only grown even more dangerous, and over the generations they've cultivated a new way of life to survive this world of radioactivity. But now, the world is recovering, and they must decide whether to take the chance to journey forth once more...
essentially, this is a clan of radioactive cats! six legs, three eyes, green pelts, luminescent fur, glowing eyes - the joys of strange creations is here! indulge your creativity and delight in strange and fantastical cats! they're all strange here...
clan traditions they live in an abandoned greenhouse, the only place where plants still grow, creatures still stir, and fish still swim. however, they have to defend their home from fearsome creatures and venture into the dangerous air of the outside to collect materials and prey. strange illnesses still haunt the clan from the infected air of the outside. these necessities and circumstances have affected their clan structure and traditions.
starclan: because of how terrifying the world has become, these cats have become deeply spiritual, honoring their ancestors as guides and foretellers of danger and good fortune. they hold little traditions and rituals to reassure starclan of their belief and love, and to comfort themselves that they can take action to ensure good favor. there are shrines dedicated to the ancestors scattered across the territory. cats bring little gifts - pretty stones, feathers, and leaves - to share with their ancestors. every full moon the whole clan gather to share tongues, sing, and celebrate good fortunes that occurred over the past moon, such as the birth of new kits and new warriors, or mourn the poor fortune, such as new deaths or beast attacks.
the leader: because of the deadliness of the air and the dangerous predators outside, cats reaching an old age is a rarity - so, those who do become elders are seen as blessed by starclan, worthy of leadership. this aspect may lead to conflict (ie the leader as a puppet for their more powerful deputy, the leader stubbornly holding on to old ideals or traditions, or a cruel leader who has reached old age by exploiting others). the leader is the one who leads the ceremonies and make the final decisions for the clan.
the deputy: the deputy is a warrior chosen by the leader to be their greatest support and ally. the deputy typically organizes patrols, handles the nitty-gritty of clan's issues, and is the first on the scene if there's trouble. this can also lead to conflict, whether it be the deputy be chosen due to a leader's favoritism (ie sibling, best friend, mate) regardless of the cat's leadership skills or the deputy hungry for more power/frustrated or in disagreement with the leader.
the gardeners: rather than the warriors making up the majority of the clan, it is the gardeners - those who care for the greenery of the greenhouse, using advanced techniques such as manual watering, fertilizer, and sapling support. the gardeners also gather herbs, berries, bugs, and nuts, of which also make up their diet as prey is scarce. they also help look after the kits.
the medicine cats: because of the rampant health issues and strange sicknesses, the clan has developed tight-knit group of medicine cats who also double as scientists and researchers who experiment and find new cures. back in the day they were spiritual leaders who brought prophecies to the clan; now most focus and depend upon physical reality and science than the confusing dreams of starclan. medicine cats are permitted to have kits, and to prevent favoritism a medicine cat cannot treat their own young; another medicine cat would take the mantle. it is also encouraged and practically expected that they train their own kits to become medicine cats themselves. because of this this group has grown more and more generational, tending to pass on the title of medicine cat to their young, and thus grown a bit elitist and a class all their own. of course they are highly respected for their work, but they can also hold superiority-complexes and holding their "trade secrets" close their chests. holds potential for mad scientist characters. conflict between the medicine cats and the spirituality of the rest of the clan.
the blessed: because medicine cats have strayed from their connection with starclan, that role has been taken up by a cat who is chosen by starclan itself - if your ancestors walk in your dreams, you have been blessed by their presence, gifted with a connection to starclan matched by none other than the leader (not to be mistaken with elders and queens who are blessed by starclan with good favor). typically it is the blind, the three-legged, that share these dreams with starclan. the weak are protected here. the blessed brings prophecies of danger and good fortune from starclan. because of their importance, the blessed are not to be put in the danger, and are not allowed to be warriors. the blessed can also take the role of gardener or medicine, if they so choose. possible conflicts include: a cat pretending to be blessed, a blessed cat who wants to be a warrior, or a blessed cat born in the family of medicine cats.
the warriors: ah, the warriors. the guardians of the greenhouse and hunters of the beasts. these are powerful cats that take on the risk of death by venturing outside of the greenhouse to bring back food and material. they are an elite task force built from select apprentices and trained brutally to withstand the harsh world outside. apprentices who want to become a warrior must undergo a series of tests to prove their strength and mettle. the warriors are the first wall of defense, and they know it.
the apprentices: the group of young cats who are taken under the wing of an experienced clan cat and taught the ways of the clan, whether it be the path of a gardener, a medicine cat, or a warrior. apprentices begin training at six moons. apprentices that wish to become a warrior may take the test at twelve moons, to ensure time for them to train for the test itself.
the queens: queens are honored within the clan, as they are the proof of survival and bringers of life. it is difficult and rare to bear kits, let alone survive the process, so they are treated with the utmost respect and lavished with comfort. queens are considered blessed by starclan and can even experience prophetic dreams - sometimes cats pray to starclan for she-kits for this reason.
the elders: there are incredibly few elders due to the fact that most cats simply do not survive that long. elders are considered blessed by starclan, and only elders are given the power of the leader's title.
prey there are living beings within the greenhouse other than the cats, of course - they weren't the only ones who thought of taking over a place of sanctuary. however, they have also grown smarter and stronger - the only creatures that don't pose a threat (yet) are the fish in the manufactured lake, discovered and brought back by the warrior Shimmerleaf generations ago. The majority of the clan's diet is made up of fish, beetles and bugs, plants, nuts, and small rodents. The clan must be careful not to overhunt. they also must beware of the mice, rats, shrews, and gophers that also wander the greenhouse - they bite back.
illness and medicine every cat has some form of health condition, whether it be genetic or from breathing in the toxic air of the outside. often in the lungs, but radiation also attacks the heart, the muscles, the kidneys - the medicine cats have grown accustomed to these conditions and have created recipes of the herbs (some gathered outside of the greenhouse), which have also mutated, in order to care for the clan. these techniques have been passed down over generations. (those playing the medicine cat can go wild with their imagination.) Sometimes a new, freshly mutated disease will sweep the clan, and the medicine cats will have to crack down hard to create a cure. quarantines are not unusual.
the territory they're living in a large, abandoned greenhouse, filled with lush plant life and leafy trees. the outside has broken down and empty twoleg dens, slowly being overrun by plants that are beginning to regrow on the earth's surface. inspiration images:
name ideas something to do with green. i kinda like the idea that they're just all glowing green cats, so i was thinking "clan of the viridescents" or just "viridescentclan"
organizational stuff plot stuff: i love personal and interpersonal conflict and want to encourage people to think about that when creating their characters so that there will be subplots right off the bat. for the overarching plot i kinda want to play either the leader or the blessed - i think it'd be really compelling to have warriors come back with news of life returning to the earth, but the leader stubbornly refusing to let anyone outside. leader is old and calculating - just wants to keep clan safe and is set in her old ways - but will prove a mighty obstacle. maybe influence a cat to pretend to be blessed and speak prophecies of great danger on the outside.
character creation/joining stuff: i would like each person to create at least two cats when they join - a tom cat and a she-cat - and one of their characters has to be a gardener. to have a main role (ie deputy or blessed), queen, or apprentice, they would need to also have two cats of other ranks. hopefully this helps balance numbers and bulk up the clan.
relationships: especially since the medicine cat is family-based, i highly encourage creating familial bonds between each others' cats at the start of joining - mention if you're open to parents/siblings/mates and people can suggest relations.
literacy/activity: i would prefer at least five lines in replies (it's hard to tell on mobile so either way the more the better). it would help push towards more complex thought/action and give each other more to respond to.
other possible ideas i low-key enjoy the idea of soulmates - or, perhaps, simply a phenomenon that the cats interpret as soulmates, like matching fur patches, matching dreams i also low-key enjoy the idea of magical cats with mildly convenient powers. like levitation. maybe the warriors also collect radioactive rocks and crystals from which they draw their power.
thank you for reading! hope this garners interest! ^.^

so i got ~ inspired ~
clan of the viridescent [[ p r e m i s e ]]
the story of this clan surrounds a group of cats who have survived a strange catastrophe that they don't understand - all they know is that the outside air is dangerous, the twolegs are gone, and kits are born with strange features that only grow stranger. The dangers outside have only grown even more dangerous, and over the generations they've cultivated a new way of life to survive this surreal new world.
essentially, this is a clan of radioactive cats! six legs, three eyes, green pelts, luminescent fur, glowing eyes - the joys of strange creations is here! indulge your creativity and delight in strange and fantastical cats! they're all strange here...
[[ t r a d i t i o n s ]]
every full moon the whole clan gather to share tongues, sing, and celebrate good fortunes that occurred over the past moon, such as the birth of new kits and new warriors, or mourn the poor fortune, such as new deaths or beast attacks.
selecting a leader: because of the deadliness of the air and the dangerous predators outside, cats reaching an old age is a rarity - so, those who do become elders are seen as blessed by starclan, worthy of leadership. the leader is the one who leads the ceremonies and make the final decisions for the clan.
because of the rampant strange sickness, the clan has developed tight-knit group of medicine cats who also double as scientists and researchers who experiment and find new cures. Medicine cats are permitted to have kits, but are not allowed to treat their own. Medicine cats are also the link to StarClan, adventuring to the (spiritual place) to speak to the foretellers of good luck or doom. They tend to pass down the medicinal skills to their own, keeping the title of medicine cat within the family.
battle games: every fortnight or so, the apprentices gather to challenge each other in battles of strength, speed, and wit. the elders typically organize the games, with winning apprentice awarded with a token (whether it be a feather, stone, or other) as well as first pick of prey the next day.
first moon: when a kit survives its first moon, the clan celebrates the good fortune and survival of a kit with sharing tongues, gifts, and song.
rules of the camp: only apprentices and warriors are permitted outside of the safety of camp. an apprentice must be accompanied by a warrior. medicine cats heading to Moonlake are to be escorted by a warrior.
there are also certain creatures of the marsh for whom the clan shows respect. see [[ respected creatures ]].
prey is traditionally shared. elders and queens are permitted first pick.
[[ h i s t o r y ]]
The history of the clan dates back to the Great Catastrophe. Elders regale the young with stories passed down generation from generation by the great cloud in the sky, about the disasters it brought, about the strange illnesses and births. About the strange monsters it wrought. Rain meant danger. Even the prey began to bite back. The clan had to migrate, searching for safety, until finally settling in their current home in the marshlands.
Recently, there has been dissent within the clan, specifically around the leader, Marshstar. She and her deputy Tangledthrush began butting heads over how to lead the clan, Marshstar leaning heavily towards safety, strict rules, and comfort for all while Tangledthrush argued for more freedom and individuals being able to serve themselves. This has caused a rift in the clan, breaking out into a civil war that ended in Marshstar’s death and Tangledthrush’s banishment. The cats on Marshstar’s side won, but at the cost of her final life; this loss turned the rest of the clan on Tangledthrush and forced her out of the clan.
There is a now a power vacuum in the clan, with cats uncertain who should take the mantle of leader. Should they continue with the tradition of putting an elder in charge? Or let an ambitious youngster take over?
A rogue outside of the clan plots to use this to his advantage. Tangledthrush schemes with the few cats that followed her. And, of course, surrounding all this political drama are all the absurd dangers that haunt the clan at every turn.
[[ t e r r i t o r y ]]
The clan’s territory lies within marshes and lagoons, the water brackish and the creatures odd. In the salt marsh, surviving in brackish water with land regularly flooded by the tides of the ocean means many different plants that have adapted to the high salinity. These include cordgrass, glasswort, sea lavender, cyprus trees, willow trees, rushes, reeds, sedges, saltbushes, cattails, and water lilies.
THE SCARY PLACE
MOONLAKE
the sacred place where medicine cats and leaders travel to speak with StarClan. it is a far-off journey up where the water runs fresh and the trees grow thick, and is a small lake that holds the light of the moon.
THE LANDMARK
THE MYTH
VELVET LAGOON
a beautiful lagoon whose banks are speckled with sea lavender. a great romantic place to date or spend time with your mate.
THE RESTING PLACE
the burial grounds.
[[ c a m p ]]
the camp lies on higher ground where the water is only brackish, and is quite large, nestled within a clearing of small trees and thick saltbushes that rests right next to a freshwater lagoon. there’s a circle of dens within the bushes along with larger spaces to hang out and gather - this is the safest place within camp.
LEADER’S DEN
MEDICINE CATS DEN
WARRIOR CATS’ DEN
APPRENTICES’ DEN
NURSERY
ELDERS’ DEN
GATHERING PLACE
a spacious patch of land that has been cleared for purposes of making announcements and holding gatherings, ceremonies, and games. there’s a speckled rock upon upon which the leader speaks to the clan.
TRAINING AREA
the training area is a relatively large area of solid ground for training apprentices. the training area is tucked inside the edge of camp.
FRESHKILL PILE the fresh-kill pile lies within a circle of stones in the center of the circle of dens for easy access. cats linger here and share tongues.
[[ p r e y ]]
muskrats (most common) fish: sea trout, striped bass, pike, walleye, and sunfish frogs newts salamanders grouse ducks birds: sparrows, wrens, blackbirds turtles (uncommon) rabbits (uncommon) mice (uncommon)
please feel free to give your prey strange and curious attributes. newts float in this world.
[[ p r e d a t o r s ]]
minks martens foxes raccoons snakes skunks beavers (uncommon) snapping turtles
[[ r e s p e c t e d c r e a t u r e s ]]
there are some creatures that the clan shares mutual respect towards. these include:
The Great Seers: the herons and great egrets that wander the salt marsh. (In fact, naming a kit after one of these great birds is considered a great honor, and are saved for kits foretold of great things.) They are enormous birds of white and blue feathers and long legs, their slim bodies often scattered with eyes. They are considered the Great Seers of the Salt Marsh. Even though they cannot communicate with these creatures, the clan nod respectfully from a distance and takes cues from the herons’ behavior to foretell bad weather or misfortune. Some medicine cats are able to communicate directly with the Great Seers via Moonlake.
The Geese: Absolutely terrifying creatures with beaks full of teeth and eyes that foretell death. Do not look into the dark, beady, soulless eyes of the Geese. They have many nests around the clan’s camp and act as sentries over their young - thus, by extension, act as pseudo guards for the clan’s camp. The clan shares a tentative agreement with the Geese - essentially, mind your business and we’ll mind ours. If we help you out, you owe us help in the future.
The Salt Marsh Harvest Mice: Once dinner, these mice have grown increasingly intelligent to the point where, in a stunning turn of events, the leader drafted a treaty with the clan where if the cats offered the mice their protection, the mice would in turn teach the cats how to survive in the high salinity of the salt marsh. The Salt Marsh Harvest Mice have shared with the cats a far greater variety of herbs once inaccessible, and thus are an important symbol for medicine cats. It is a horrendous offense to kill or eat a Salt Marsh Harvest Mouse, which can be found in their nests near camp.
[[ h e r b s ]]
not only do different herbs grow on the marsh, but strange, new herbs grow as well. the herb list and usages continue to expand as medicine cats hone their craft.
GLASSWORT succulent leaves that bloom on the marshes. consuming its thick, crunchy leaves is good for dehydration and constipation. GOOSE TONGUE a hardy plant with long base leaves and tall stems with clusters of succulent-like leaves in a rosette. crushed leaves are used to treat insect bites, inflammation, and small cuts. seeds can be crushed and consumed to treat coughs and relieve pain. PURSLANE a succulent with reddish-brown stems, yellow flowers, and milky sap. dried and used for fever and headaches. SEA ASTER a flowering plant with fleshy leaves and purple florets. treats eye health. SEASIDE GOLDENROD beautiful golden flower. can be chewed up into a poultice and applied to wounds. SEA LAVENDER these flowers bloom in gorgeous clouds of soft purple flowers. can be consumed for stomach issues or applied onto affected skin.
may attack. harvest with caution.

an updated plan :3 clan of the viridescent
[[ p r e m i s e ]] The story of this clan surrounds a group of cats who have survived a strange catastrophe that they don't understand - all they know is that the outside air is dangerous, the twolegs are gone, and kits are born with strange features that only grow stranger. The dangers outside have only grown even more dangerous, and over the generations they've clung to the warrior code to survive this surreal new world.
Essentially, this is a clan of radioactive cats! six legs, three eyes, green pelts, luminescent fur, glowing eyes - the joys of strange creations is here! indulge your creativity and delight in strange and fantastical cats! They're all strange here...
[[ h i s t o r y ]] The history of the clan dates back to the Great Catastrophe.
And how should they decide? Battle? Prophecy? Or democracy?
A rogue outside of the clan plots to use this to his advantage. Tangledthrush schemes with the few cats that followed her. And, of course, surrounding these power struggles are all the absurd threats that haunt the clan at every turn.
[[ r u l e s ]] interested? here are some rules to follow:
OOC Remember to maintain respect for everyone out of character! Naturally, follow the forum guidelines, and speak kindly. Also, please use some form of brackets to indicate out-of-character speech. If you have an idea for a storyline don't be afraid to speak your mind!
IC In character, your character can be as rude or mean as you'd like! However, especially in battles, do make sure to let your scene partner land a few blows, provide openings for dodges and counterattacks, and only write for your own character's actions. Despite their curiosities, these cats are not all-powerful nor invulnerable - injuries and illnesses are a part of life, and make the story more interesting. Your character doesn't have to play fair, but make sure you yourself are! Also feel free to jump in anywhere! Join any cat conversation, it's the quickest way to leap right into the action. Push for your cat to affect the story. Speaking of, it's less of a direct good vs evil, Starclan vs Dark Forest kind of deal, but more of an unfortunate division of ideologies: safety and community vs freedom and individuality. You may have your cat join the clan or the outsiders - but don't worry, you can always have them cross over to a different side.
ACTIVITY It's always more fun when people are active! Don't feel stressed when life takes over, but do send a little heads' up if you've found you've been or will be absent for a while. I know I'm looking to be active daily/every other day, so I'd say for the pace of this clan, aim for a response a couple times a week. If someone is absent with no response for, let's say two weeks, their character will be consumed by the marshes. LITERACY I find the importance in literacy lies not in where you put your commas, but in the substance of your post - ie, does your response tells us something about your character? Does your response provide a distinct action (ie speech or movement) for a scene partner to respond to? Does your response give us some insight into what your character is feeling and thinking? If you're having trouble conjuring something for your post, keep these things in mind, and aim for at least three sentences. Please do keep in mind spelling and grammar in terms of clarity.
BUILDING CHARACTERS Here you may be familiar with rules asking for realistic fur colors. Throw all that out the window! Want a luminescent green pelt? Go for it! Want to inexplicably float whenever you feel extreme joy? Heck yeah! All I ask is to keep fur and eye colors similar within families, maintain a green theme somewhere in your character design, and if you want a strange, unearthly power for your cat, give it a limitation and a conflict for your character. Please build at least two characters, each of different genders. You may only have an apprentice, a queen, or a medicine cat every two cats you make. Please ask about having a motherless kit. You may have as many cats as you'd like, but do keep them engaged within the clan. Feel free to come up with a fun and dramatic history for your cat, whether it be a forbidden lover, a father lost to the marshes, an abandoned kit found by the clan, or plans for world domination. When it comes to cat names, try to stick within what cats would find in a marshland. For example, "Brackishclaw" or "Oceanpelt" makes sense b/c brackish water, they're near the ocean, etc, but things like "Oakpaw" would be less likely since there aren't many oaks in the marsh (though, I did just discover that swamp white oaks exist lol, but still, keeping that in mind.) Also, please check to make sure the prefix and/or suffix is not already taken by another character.
FAMILY TREES Feel free to make familial bonds with other players! It's always a lot of fun to rp siblings and mates with other players right off the bat - mention in your form if you're open to familial bonds (parents, siblings, or otherwise), and if you want to be in another cat's family tag their player and ask! You may also have claimable characters if you'd like - you can fill out the first line of the form and note them as claimable by other players. You may also fill out forms for deceased cats.
INCLUSIVITY LGBTQ+ welcome! There are rainbow flags everywhere here!
[[ j o i n i n g ]] on board? join using the form below:
Cat Name || Gender/Pronouns || Age || Rank Description (min. 2 sentences) || Personality (min. 3 sentences. include a strength and a weakness.) Family/History (you can also provide motivations and goals here) Other (please indicate powers, if the character is claimable, if the character is deceased, and if the character is open to familial bonds with other players) [[ screenname ]]
[[ i n d e x ]] where to find all you need to know:
ii: traditions, the territory, and camp iii. herbs, prey, predators, and respected creatures iv: allegiances and relationships v: season, upcoming events, and current plot
[[ t r a d i t i o n s ]] THE MOONGATHER every full moon the whole clan gather to share tongues, sing, and celebrate good fortunes that occurred over the past moon, such as the birth of new kits and new warriors, or mourn the poor fortune, such as new deaths or beast attacks.
SELECTING THE LEADER because of the deadliness of the air and the dangerous predators outside, cats reaching an old age is a rarity - so, those who do become elders are seen as blessed by starclan, worthy of leadership. the leader is the one who leads the ceremonies and make the final decisions for the clan.
MEDICINE CATS because of the rampant strange sickness, the clan has developed tight-knit group of medicine cats who also double as scientists and researchers who experiment and find new cures. medicine cats are permitted to have kits, but cannot treat their own. medicine cats are also the link to starclan, adventuring to the moonlake to speak to the their foretellers of good luck or doom. they tend to pass down the medicinal skills to their own, keeping the title of medicine cat within the family.
BATTLE GAMES every fortnight or so, the apprentices gather to challenge each other in battles of strength, speed, and wit. the elders typically organize the games, with winning apprentice awarded with a token (whether it be a feather, stone, or other) as well as first pick of prey the next day.
FIRST MOON when a kit survives its first moon, the clan celebrates the good fortune and survival of a kit with sharing tongues, gifts, and song.
RULES OF THE CAMP only apprentices and warriors are permitted outside of the safety of camp. an apprentice must be accompanied by a warrior. medicine cats heading to moonlake are to be escorted by a warrior. the warrior code is sacred; if you were to break the warrior code, you will be punished with severely with exile.
THE FRESH-KILL PILE prey is traditionally shared. cats tend to eat together as a community, and will sit around the pile eating or sharing tongues.
RESPECTED CREATURES there are also certain creatures of the marsh for whom the clan honor. see [[ respected creatures ]].
[[ t e r r i t o r y ]] The clan’s territory lies within marshes and lagoons, the water brackish and the creatures odd. In the salt marsh, surviving in brackish water with land regularly flooded by the tides of the ocean means many different plants that have adapted to the high salinity. These include cordgrass, glasswort, sea lavender, cypress trees, rushes, reeds, sedges, saltbushes, and algae.
THE GREAT WATERS far to the west lies the edge of the clan's territory, a wide stretch of water that expands along the land. you see in the distance the marshes on the other side, but the waters are far too deep and far too wide for any wise cat to cross.
MOONLAKE far to the east lies the sacred place where medicine cats and leaders travel to speak with starclan. it is a far-off journey deeper in the high marshes, and is a small lake that holds the light of the moon. medicine cats and leaders dream by the water's edge to speak with starclan.
TWOLEG BRIDGE a magnificent bridge built by the twolegs that is now overcome with plants and debris. still sturdy. the clan's connection to the west of the territory, where the primary hunting grounds are.
THE ISLAND OF ALGAESTAR in the midst of the lagoon the camp is perched on the banks upon is a tiny island graced by small trees. it is a mythical place, told to be the place the great Algaestar fell defending the clan from a massive flying snake. the swimming skills of the apprentices are tested by swimming to and from the island.
TWILIGHT LAGOON if you walk along the main lagoon until it ends, you'll be met with a second beautiful lagoon whose banks are speckled with yellow clover, lilies, and pink knotweed. it reflects the colors of twilight. a great romantic place to date or spend time with your mate.
THE LAVENDER SEA the burial grounds for fallen warriors. a bed of sea lavender blankets the land. it lies in the east; you'd pass by it on your way to moonlake.
[[ o u t s i d e t h e t e r r i t o r y ]]
Here is where Tangledthrush and her companions lie, far to the east past Moonlake, where the thistle and sweet fennel grow and the marshlands are thick with pickleweed and grasswort. the water is fiercely salty. it is, at least to the clan, a dark and sinister place.
MAKESHIFT CAMP tangledthrush's cats camp out in the roots of the sweet fennel that gather by the banks of the sea of pickleweed.
SEA OF PICKLEWEED the main hunting grounds. the land slopes into a thick blanket of pickleweed and saltbushes that goes for a while before it leads into open water, where shallow water lies and frogs leap. one must place their paws carefully around here, for you may never know when you'll be swallowed up. you can find all sorts of amphibians, reptiles, and fish here.
THE WATER'S CURVE right where the pickleweed meets the water is a calm, peaceful semi-circle cutting into the sea of pickleweed. it's a nice little fishing spot and a strangely safe place to chat. there is a serenity here that these cats sorely lacking security crave.
THE TWOLEG TREES strange silver twoleg trees tower higher than any marshland tree into the sky. cats are warned to stay away. these trees are old and dilapidated, and go on for as far as the eye can see.
THE FOUL BEACHES to the north there lies a strange beach, where a twoleg's barbed wire fence that lies fallen and twisted. an old exposed sewage pipe leads straight into the water. the air here is foul.
[[ c a m p ]] The camp lies on higher ground where the marshwater is only brackish. It is quite large, resting right next to a lagoon that provides fresh water. There’s a circle of dens made within the enormous blueblossom bushes that sit upon the land by the lagoon - this is the safest place within camp.
LEADER’S DEN the leader's den lies near the back of camp, its entrance marked by threads of green-leaved plants that grow beside the blueblossom bush. The ground has been dug, branches within have been cleared, and the walls are reinforced with mud and leaves. there is an escape route in the back that leads directly into the lagoon.
MEDICINE CATS DEN the medicine cat's den lies in the bush beside the leader's den all the way in the back, a much larger den to accommodate the number of medicine and sick cats within. nests are arranged around the trunk of the bush, with herbs hung from its extending branches. the scene of herbs is thick here.
WARRIOR CATS’ DEN the warrior's den is within the bush by the entrance to the circle of dens, cloaked behind a web of exposed branches.
APPRENTICES’ DEN the apprentice's den is opposite the warrior's, a comfortably large blueblossom bush decorated with tokens of proud battle-game winners.
NURSERY the nursery is next to the medicine cat's den in the back of the circle. this is the safest spot in the circle of dens, the blueblossom's bush's naturally thickly-woven and resilient branches preventing predators from clawing their way from the outside. kits can spend hours playing on the trunk and branches of the bush within.
ELDERS’ DEN the elder's den is across from the nursery, hidden under the thick leaves of a neighboring cypress tree. it is a small, well-protected den that reserves the softest of moss and algae for their nests.
GATHERING PLACE a spacious patch of land just outside the circle of dens that has been cleared for purposes of making announcements and holding gatherings, ceremonies, and games. the leader sits upon the roots of a massive pride of madeira to address the clan.
TRAINING AREA across the circle of dens is the training area, is a relatively large area of solid ground and soft golden grass for training apprentices. the training area is tucked inside the edge of camp.
FRESHKILL PILE the fresh-kill pile lies within center of the circle of dens for easy access in the shade of a small shrub. cats linger here and share tongues.

just a sample of what you might find. listed from most common to least common:
the green-striped muskrat the three-eyed trout the bioluminescent frog the floating newt the seven-eyed wren the alabaster salamander the two-necked grouse the ducks the hyper-speed sparrow the rainbowfish the screaming turtle the six-legged rabbit the well-dressed marsh harvest mice
[[ p r e d a t o r s ]] minks martens foxes raccoons snakes skunks beavers snapping turtles
[[ r e s p e c t e d c r e a t u r e s ]] there are some creatures that the clan shares mutual respect towards. these include:
THE GREAT SEERS the herons and great egrets that wander the salt marsh.
THE GEESE absolutely terrifying creatures with beaks full of teeth and eyes that foretell death. do not look into the dark, beady, soulless eyes of the Geese. they have many nests around the clan’s camp and act as sentries over their young - thus, by extension, act as pseudo guards for the clan’s camp. the clan shares a tentative agreement with the Geese - essentially, mind your business and we’ll mind ours. if we help you out, you owe us help in the future.
[[ o t h e r c r e a t u r e s ]] THE STRANGER there's a strange twoleg that haunts the deeper waters of the marsh, swimming in a canoe with a long paddle. all cats can see is a shadow in the distance. sometimes this twoleg leaves fish on the banks of the marsh. Marshstar, like leaders before her, had forbidden cats to accept the fish, as doing so would be akin to accepting the soft life of a kittypet.
[[ h e r b s ]] not only do different herbs grow on the marsh, but strange, new herbs grow as well. the herb list and usages continue to expand as medicine cats hone their craft.
GLASSWORT succulent leaves that bloom on the marshes, collected right at the water's edge. consuming its thick, crunchy leaves is good for dehydration and constipation. MEDICINE CATS (18 MOONS - DEATH)
[[ Leafriver ]] non-binary (they/them) || 36 moons || medicine cat Leafriver is a long-furred cat dappled with pale green and white. They have soft blue-green eyes and a gentle touch. They are on the small and slim side, with small paws and a long fluffy tail. | Leafriver is just as soft-spoken as they look, a bit shy and easily spooked. They have an enormous heart and is prone to panic, but will care for the cats under their care with the as much kindness as they can afford. | The previous medicine cat Newtbelly, their father and mentor, passed away due to a horrific case of a new illness. In failing to find a cure in time, Leafriver feels they've failed her father and thus has grown inconfident in their abilities. Their mother disappeared into the marsh moons ago, and now that their sister Treebitten has left them to follow Tangledthrush, they feel horribly alone. | They are able to breathe underwater. Useful for collecting herbs beneath the water's surface, but if they dwell beneath the surface for too long, the water will consume their mind. [[ willowflower]]
MEDICINE CAT APPRENTICE (6 MOONS - 18 MOONS) [[ not open ]]
WARRIORS (18 MOONS - 96 MOONS)
[[ Brackishclaw ]] non-binary (he/they) || 24 moons || warrior Brackishclaw is on the larger side, a handsome tortoiseshell with larger black patches crossing over the light green patches of his thick fur. Their green eyes gaze out from a prim and angular face, half of which is black fur crossing like a shadow across their face. They are a strong and efficient fighter. | Brackishclaw is brash and, shall we say, a little salty from time to time. They are a compelling speaker and a very capable warrior, of which they take maybe a little too much pride in, and is very ambitious and out-spoken. They take a lot of pride in their clan and is fiercely loyal, only wanting to serve their clan the best they can. | They are a young warrior who is very determined to become leader, seeing Marshstar's fall as a failure to serve her clan. They genuinely believe they would be best to lead the clan based on strength and determination, and will take the role by force if they have to. | Open to siblings/parents. [[willowflower]]

ELDERS (96 MOONS - 144 MOONS) [[ Cypresstail ]] tom (he/him) || 112 moons || elder Cypresstail is a very fluffy white tom-cat with dark green paws and lighter green speckles that crawl up his legs. He is notable for his dark green tail, akin to the leafy greens that grow around camp. His eyes are a gentle amber, one slightly clouded. | Cypresstail is a very quiet individual, very careful with his words, if he ever says more than one. He is very intelligent if not slightly aloof, and prefers to be left alone. | Cypresstail used to be known for his stealth and silence. He was especially skilled at camouflage thanks to his coloring. He'd slowly outgrown most of his friends, his mate, and even his kits. Only one of his kits have survived and gone on to have their own family. Nowadays he sometimes seems a bit lost, his memory slowly fading. Cypresstail is one of the cats in line for leader. | He is blind in one eye. Open to kits and grandkits.
ROGUES AND LONERS
[[ Jacques ]] tom (he/him) || 42 moons || rogue A handsome, long-furred russet tom cat with emerald green eyes. His fur is tinted with a dark, forest green. He is more on the skinny side, relying on speed, agility, and wit to get by. | Jacques is nonchalant, flippant, and dry-witted. He is not a tom who takes many things seriously, and enjoys the chaos and nonsenseness that this life brings. He is also a tom that enjoys the attention of other cats, and likes to play with the affections of as many cats while eagerly drinking their love in. | This rogue was abandoned as a kit by his parents - whether his parents were lost to the marshes or left him by will, he doesn't know, but doesn't care. Either way, they left him alone, and he now hungers for company that he does not know how to keep. Emotionally immature, he does whatever he can to draw cats to his side. Now that there's a power vaccuum in the nearby clan, he sees an opportunity to gain much, much attention. | Jacques totally had an affair with one of the clan cats and has a little kit running around. Open to familial bonds. [[willowflower]]
THE EXILED
[[ Tangedthrush ]] she-cat (she/hers) || 38 moons || exiled deputy A yellow-orange tabby she-cat with light forest-green markings that are scattered across her thick, fluffy pelt. She has three eyes, two of which are a orange-ish amber, and a violet third. | Tangledthrush is a very intellectual individual with a tendency to overthink. She is very opinionated and is not afraid to share her thoughts, especially when it comes to the warrior code. However, she is very heartfelt and cares a lot about her fellow cats. She can get very bitter and hold tight to grudges. | She was appointed deputy because she was Marshstar's niece, and this was part of what brought Tangledthrush to act on her thoughts towards the clan's traditions and code. She greatly disagreed with Marshstar appointing her purely on familial bond and considered it an elder's sentimentality. She then continued to disagree with Marshstar on multiple instances, the conflict only simmering until Marshstar exiled one of her best friends for accepting the Stranger's fish during bareleaf in a effort to feed their ailing sibling. This caused her to speak out against all the clan's known - most cats, naturally, were shocked and offended, but many, especially younger cats, took her side. A civil war broke out that took Marshstar's last life. The rest of the clan drove her out, leaving only a few cats following in her footsteps. She now seethes outside of her old clan's territory, hurt and bitter, and slowly calculating ways to take the clan back. | Her third eye sees in infared, useful in tracking down hidden or invisible prey. However, she can only use one sight at a time, so either two or one eye is closed at all times lest she go into sensory overload. Open to family. [[ willowflower ]]

[[ Treebitten ]] she-cat (she/hers) || 36 moons || exiled medicine cat Leafriver's sister [[ CLAIMABLE ]]
STARCLAN
[[ Marshstar ]] she-cat (she/hers) || died at 103 moons || leader A wiry, brown and green, short-furred she-cat with amber eyes. She was known for her speed and skill with her six legs. | Marshstar has a fiery-spirt and a boldness to her that gave her the capability to lead with the strength of her presence and voice, despite her age. She is extremely loyal, but at the same time very stubborn, beliving that a firm paw and an iron grip on the warrior code is what carries this clan through the hard times. Marshstar is very good at looking at the big picture and is very careful about thinking about how the entire clan can be benefitted, prioritizing caring for the members of the clan who can't care for themselves. However, she can use her power as leader to benefit herself. | Her sister was Glowingbrook, someone she was very close to. When she died protecting an apprentice that had broken camp rules and gone off on their own, Marshstar cracked down even harder on the rules, prioritizing safety above all else. Her niece is Tangledthrush. | Marshstar lost her last life during the civil war. There are many contradicting stories on how she fell, but most of the clan, including herself, blames Tangledthrush.
[[ Glowingbrook ]] she-cat (she/hers) || died at 48 moons || warrior A pale, short-furred she-cat with a small frame. Her eyes were a light green. When activated with water, her fur glows a gentle green. | Glowingbrook was a sweet individual who felt frustrated and trapped throughout her life. She didn't like to bother cats with her thoughts, and tended to keep to herself with a smile in the background. Glowingbrook was only really honest with her kit Tangledthrush, and only because Tangledthrush was so curious about the world. | Glowingbrook really wanted to be a medicine cat, and thought it was a good path to take since she risked her fur glowing, attracting predators, every time she went out of camp, but due to the exclusivity of the medicine cat families, she was rejected as a medicine cat apprentice. She reluctantly took on the mantle of warrior, learning to use her glowing fur as a lure for prey and distraction for predators. | Unfortunately, when Glowingbrook's apprentice had gone out on their own to mess around with their crush, only to be met with a mink, Glowingbrook had ran out on her own to protect them. She saved the apprentices by distracting the mink long enough for them to flee, sacrificing her own life for them.
[[ Sunbreak ]] trans tom (he/him) || died at 56 moons || warrior A golden-pelted, short-furred cat with a stocky build. His eyes were a bright blue. | Sunbreak was sharp and quick-witted, and just as sharp-tongued. He can be a little impatient, but he was quick on the uptake and quick to figure out solutions to a problem. He was adventurous and humorous, tending to only show his warmer side to his close ones. | He was Cypresstail's mate. | Sunbreak drowned in The Great Waters trying to save his kit.
[[ Lilystream ]] non-binary (they/she/him) || died at 62 moons || warrior A beautiful and sleek silver cat with emerald green tabby stripes. Her eyes were a deep, dark blue. | Shy and timid, Lilystream has a wry kind of humor that they only reveal when their walls are down. They were very anxious, especially about the negative things they feared their fellow clanmates were thinking of them. Newtbelly, with his bluntness, was refreshing, and made him feel comfortable to spend time and open up. | Their mate was the former medicine cat Newtbelly, their kits Leafriver and Treebitten.
[[ Newtbelly ]] tom-cat (he/him) || died at 74 || medicine cat A thin tom with green, brown, and white patches. His eyes were a pale amber. | Solemn and serious, Newtbelly was very no-nonsense and very blunt, direct and to the point. He was not one to mince words and let cats know exactly what he's thinking. | He was the mate of Lilystream and father to Leafriver and Treebitten.
