During 2017-18, the country of North Korea was testing its ballistic missiles. Tensions rose between it and America, but didn't lead to war. At least, not in the original timeline. In this timeline, it did.

September 2017: North Korea tested its first thermonuclear weapon, prompting America's president Donald Trump to re-list the country as a State Sponsor of Terrorism.
November 2017: North Korea tests second thermonuclear weapon, and test-fires a missile over Japan.
December 2017: North Korea and China make a Nuclear Alliance, worrying other countries.
January 2018: China sets up a missile-testing base in the South China Sea.
February 4th, 2018: North Korea's forces begin moving into the demilitarised zone between it and South Korea, prompting forces to mobilise on the other side.
February 6th, 2018: Ballistic missile is fired at Hawaii by North Korea, decimating the population.
February 6th, 2018: America officially declares war on North Korea, as tensions and fears rise all around the world.
February 7th, 2018 (The Start of War); America launches its first round of missiles at North Korea. Although a few are shot down over China, some strike Hwangju County, south of Pyongyang. North Korean forces clash with South Korean forces in the demilitarised zone, and fighter planes bomb South Korean cities close to the demilitarised zone.
North Korea fires a series of missiles at America, and although some are shot down, one nuclear missile hits the Point Reyes National Seashore, resulting in a massive firestorm that sweeps toward San Francisco. The police and National Guard steps in to help evacuate the city, although panic and chaos sets in. Winds start to blow fallout across the city.
Chinese warships in the South China Sea begin a move to intersect an American oil tanker. America warns them not to.
Russia launches airstrikes on American outposts in Syria and Iraq, and an explosion at Pine Gap in Australia is rumored to be a terrorist attack.
February 8th 2018; The fires in the Point Reyes National Seashore create an ember-attack on San Francisco. The city starts to burn, and those who haven't fled are forced to.
Russian warplanes begin bombing towns in Alaska and British Columbia, resulting in America's warplanes taking off to counter them.
A Chinese nuclear missile is reported to have hit Darwin in Northern Australia, with people realising that the Third World War is officially underway.
February 9th 2018; Russian warships bomb Hooper Bay in Alaska, revealling their intent to capture the entirety of Alaska. Soldiers stationed in Anchorage begin mobilising to push back the invading forces.
In the South China Sea, the Chinese warships capture the American oil tanker and begin firing on the American warships.
The Syrian Civil War intensifies, with Russian forces bombing American-held bases around the country.
February 11th 2018
Armed gunmen storm the White House in America and Parliament House in Australia at around the same time. China claims responsibility for both attacks.
San Francisco burns, and the fires begin spreading across to Oakland and San Rafael. Mass evacuations are enforced.
Russian troops come ashore in Alaska and successfully capture Hooper Bay.
South China Sea Conflict; three American warships and one Chinese warship sunk, around fifty people dead and counting.
Turkish forces begin moving into Syria as America pulls out troops, declaring its intent to create an 'Autonomous Zone.' Kurdish forces are attacked.
February 13th 2018
Russia sets up a temporary military base in Hooper Bay. Fighter jets land and bring in more supplies.
Donald Trump addresses the American people from the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, where he was evacuated to during the attack on the White House. He officially declares war on China. Britain, Germany, France, and Spain ally themselves with America.
Although Australia's Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's whereabouts are unknown, Australia declares war on China as well.
American nuclear missile hits Shanghai, China.
Protests break out on the streets of Hong Kong, calling for independence from China.
February 15-20th 2018 (South Korean Takeover Begins)
North Korean forces move into South Korea, taking Yeoncheon, Cheorwon, and Paju. Refugees begin fleeing to the neighboring cities.
Japan's forces mobilise to help South Korea.
Bombing raid on Seoul.
February 21st 2018
Refugee crisis begins in South Korea, as North Korean forces successfully move through the country.
China starts invading Russia, showing that the war is being fought on multiple, confusing fronts.
Spain and Britain each send warships to help America in the South China Sea.
February 23rd 2018
North Korea successfully takes South Korea, and the two countries become one. Korea now turns its focus to Japan.
Kim Jong Un has South Korean President Moon Jae-in publicly executed.
China launches a bombing raid on Vladivostok in Russia.
Australian forces land in China, but at the same time, Chinese forces land on the beaches of Queensland in Australia.

Australian forces continue fighting the Chinese, fortifying the border between Queensland and New South Wales.

Japan launches Operation Free the South, a mass attack trying to drive North Korean forces from South Korea.

As the war escalates, countries begin turning on each other as people fear that the end of the world is approaching. Some people even welcome it.
The North Korean Union is established, taking in North and South Korea and several conquered Japanese islands. Operation Free the South has failed.

Canada surrenders to Russian forces, prompting American troops to fortify the border.
Due to increasing South Korean resistance in the conquered country, Kim Jong Un launches an untested bioweapon-missile into Seoul. The bioweapon, known as Red Wish, causes a sort-of liquefying of the brain, puss-filled lesions on the skin, and several hours of mindless rage, before death. It's also very infectious.
Yemen's civil war starts spreading into Oman.
March 14th 2018
The Red Wish continues to spread through the resistance sects of South Korea. Several cases are reported in Japan. China pulls out its forces, not knowing if the North Korean Union will turn on them as well.
China takes Vladivostok, Ussuriysk, Artyom, and Pogranichny, advancing into Russia.
Russian forces start moving into the American states of Washington and Idaho. Bombing of Seattle begins.
