when ashfur is seen in this book, he is said to be relatively calm and at peace, hollyleaf and him appear to have no more beef between them, and other cats seem to want to hang out with him. if he is the imposter, do you think all of this in starclan was just an act and he was secretly plotting this scheme to destroy the clans, or do you think he was legitimately at peace at the time and this idea came to fruition after SH?

Yeah, I think it’s definitely a cover up.

it makes way more sense to have cats cease caring about their personal problems once in cat heaven. otherwise, way more cats would do things if they had "unfinished business."

I always thought the criticism that "Hollyleaf and Ashfur are friends in StarClan! That makes no sense!" was a little... projecting-ish? Like, if you read that scene, she's clearly not friends with him, she just doesn't care enough to put energy into hating him anymore, which is a common theme among all the StarClan cats during that point in the book-- they just live together peacefully and choose to forget their life problems, becoming somewhat of a creepy hivemind that makes Squirrelflight (rightfully) uncomfortable.
But as for the actual question, I think it's entirely possible that while most other cats choose to spend eternity with their families and let go of troubles from the living world, others find themselves unable to let go of that hate, like Ashfur.

It didn't look like an act, so I'm going to say he was legitimately at peace.

Whatever it was, I think seeing Squirrelflight sparked something in him
I don't think he held that much of a grudge against Hollyleaf? She was dead and her life was ruined, but to see Squirrelflight again and to see her still thrive probably got under his skin

Maybe Hollyleaf is actually his co-conspirator and they're going to revive Hollyleaf's zombie carcass for the second time.
In all seriousness, Starclan seems to fundamentally change how a cat acts. It's entirely possible that Ashfur and Hollyleaf's words were true...at the time. But it's clear that Ashfur has obtained some serious magical mojo given his statements in the Broken Code, that's not standard issue to Starclan cats. Maybe that liberated his mind from the happy-drugs in Starclan's water.
