What is your opinion on rootspring and bristlefrost. I still haven’t read anything past lost stars ;-;. I don’t really care, but ANOTHER cross-clan relationship..... it kind of doesn’t make sense why bristlefrost would like him that much.... idk..

I do NOT want them getting together in any way shape or form. They should stay platonic friends and that's it. I LOVED how they confessed early and rejected the idea of them being together early. That was fantastic! Never been done before in the series!
I don't want this mature display to be ruined with another out of nowhere forbidden romance. Bristlefrost's feelings for him came out of nowhere and it's so terrible how they pulled it off.

They're a cute couple. And if a cross-clan relationship is used to finally end that ridiculous rule, that's fine by me. It also gives them more personal stakes in TBC if they're breaking the code.

I hate it because it makes no sense.

It's hard for me to want then together because there's no chemistry between them other than as friends. I hope it stays that way.
If they do get together, I hope they flesh out their romance because for now, it seems like Bristlefrost only admitted some feelings because Stemleaf is dead. I don't think she knows what she wants at this time.

I think Rootspring's crush on her was cute, but I dislike the pairing. Bristlefrost's feelings for him came out of nowhere. I hope they remain friends and nothing comes of it.
Also, if they have kits, I guarantee one of them will be the protagonist of the next arc.

good in theory, but bristlefrost returning his feelings absolutely came out of nowhere.
moonkitti touched on this in a recent video, but rootspring just...doesn't seem like bristlefrost's type? she's a strong warrior who always wanted to make her clan proud, and stemleaf, in all of his shoujo love interest glory, seemed like a fitting match for her first crush.
rootspring is presented in a way that makes you forget he's not always supposed to be the warrior equivalent of a 12 year old. he just seems young. opposites do attract, but it often feels like he and bristlefrost have no connection to each other and nothing in common.
i do ship shadowroot and i am biased, but shadowsight and rootspring always seemed to make way more sense as a couple. they share a connection through being different, having ties to the spirit world, and they're just...cute? i recall several downright romantic paragraphs in tst/vos where the two of them thought about each other. rootspring's quest to save shadowsight was awesome. they just have so much great material. but they're both toms, and working partners ain't having that, so...
meanwhile, half of the bristleroot scenes leading up to the latter half of veil of shadows were essentially just poor rootspring making a fool of himself by embarrassing poor bristlefrost. kind of unpleasant all around.
but i'm not saying all of this to dig on bristleroot. like i said, they're cute in theory. they have great potential, and there is a remedy to the problems i listed. an easy one. give them more development! we're only on book three of the arc, not everything has to be rushed through. let rootspring grow up a little and prove himself more - he was an apprentice for a long time, half of his peers treat him like a kid. most of us kinda see him as a kid.
give him and bristlefrost more to do! don't stop the conflict at the third book. let them tackle the rising threat together, bounce off each other, learn more about each other. it's really not that hard. let rootspring see bristlefrost when she's feeling low and vulnerable; this lets him see her in a way outside of his vision of a beautiful hero she-cat that saved his life. let rootspring truly charm and impress bristlefrost in his own little rootspring ways, let her fall for him in a way that feels organic.
all they really need is more time together. ideally this would be spent by ending the arc's conflict together. i really wish they had held off on bristlefrost's "i like you, too," for at least another book.

just thought of this. i would have liked if bristlefrost absentmindedly said she liked rootspring back, but inside, she didn't actually mean it, but said it anyways to feel some kind of positive emotion...but ivypool happened to overhear this and gets pissed that her daughter wants to be a traitor. ivypool confronting her about this would make bristlefrost realize she doesnt have actual feelings for rootspring, and she snaps out of it.

It's so awkward... it's kinda cute tbh. Also they have WAY less strain than every other forbidden relationship we've seen in focus of the PoVs. There's always some drama in the build up/pining phase and yet they had about little to none of it. You could say the Bramblefake situation made it a lesser of importance in comparison. I wanna see how they do this now in the later books. Will it build up, to the point them being together in secret will be the last bit to drop the forbidden pairing part of the code? I hope so, because this is the perfect arc to do it.
I would die chuckling to see how Ivypool would react tbh, since both her sister was in an illegal relationship and now her daughter.
So I don't mind it. I like ShadowRoot more because of their chemistry, but not opposed to Bristleroot.

Neutral. I'm not fond of forbidden romances that don't really push the plot but it seems like the Erins might change that with these two. It doen't feel as forced, in our face, or unnecessary like DoveTiger was. Both Root and Bristle still are being written well for main characters and their development isn't derailing from the plot horribly just to focus on romance.
I like how mature these two are also approaching the relationship. They're not canonly in one as of right now, so they aren't really breaking any codes technically. But I like how they acknowledge that it's a complicating thing they shouldn't be doing and can be punished for.

Please no.
As others have said, it's less the fact that it's a forbidden romance in general and more the fact that Bristle and Root themselves don't make sense as partners.
I'm a big fan of a theory I saw in the comments of Moonkitti's video-- that Bristlefrost doesn't know how to reject a cat's feelings so she lied to Rootspring in order to avoid having to reject him. That would explain why that scene comes across as so awkward and flat from Bristle's end, and why she literally doesn't think about it at any other point in the book.

It's a meh for me. I can't find it as out of the blue-- I could see Bristlefrost liking him back from miles away
In general, there's not much for me to hate concerning ships in the series unless it's something that takes up 90% of the PoV like BrambleSquirrel or TigerDoveBumble or has no purpose/used as a plot device (VelvetAlder/JessyBramble)

I think they’re adorable. But if they end up having kits it’s so one (or all?) could end up as the main protagonists for the next arc.
