Behind Shadow's eyes, a slight spark lit up at the mention of Echo, yet his expression hardly changed. Cautiously he considered how he wanted to respond to the comment. "That's just Echo's personality, quite opposite of her namesake" Shadow elaborated. Once the topic of his siblings come up, he paused, unsure of the answer. "Children of Hades are mostly the typical stereotype that you would expect. We are reserved, keep our distance from others, but that comes from our father's personality and background. He lives in the Underworld and only recently received a chair on Olympus. Out of all of us, Ava has been here the longest and she's has always stuck to herself. I highly recommend just letting her be, even as siblings we cannot get very close with her," Shadow explained.

Brennan nodded in understanding. "Yeah, Echo and her twin keep to themselves too." he said as they walked closer to the stables. "But Echo is one hell of a councilor. She's good at keeping our cabin on track." he smiled. "She has good strategies in Capture the flag, too." he looked at Shadow again, then to the stables. "Speaking of siblings....where do you fall in your cabin? Are you one of the oldest? A middle child?" he questioned curiously.

Shadow gave a huff a breath and a slight smile creased his cheeks. "Echo is formidable opponent to say the least, completely opposite as to what you would think a child of Aphrodite would be. No offense," Shadow said turning to look down at Brennan. He almost didn't realize that he kind of towered of the dude. "Yeah, I've seen her strategies up close in C-T-F. Don't have to tell me twice." His head rotated back to the stables that they were approaching, but surprisingly his comfort levels were average. "I am the middle child, but I pretty much don't exist from my father's perspective," Shadow muttered sourly. Despite his constant belief that he didn't care what his father thought, he was lying to himself and that bugged him immensely.

"Yeah, she definitely doesn't fit the stereotypes." Brennan laughed. He didn't seem to mind Shadow's comment, and waved him off. "It's fine. No offense taken." He said as they made it to the stables. Brennan grabbed a bucket and some feed for the horses and pegasi. "A middle child, huh? I'm on the younger end in my cabin. Or at least as far as I know." He brought the bucket over to one of the horses. "As for my mother...I was claimed only a couple months before I turned 14, and I've never met her. She has quite a few children, so I doubt she has time for one on ones with any of us." He shrugged, unbothered.

Unlike Brennan, Shadow did not pick up a bucket and he kept himself to the middle of the stables careful to remain away from the horses and pegasi. All he needed was to get the creatures riled up and he would never hear the end of it from the other campers who cared for them. "Yeah. Thankfully, I've never battled her one on one cause I think I'd lose," Shadow said with a small chuckle and grin. His eyes cast from side to side watching the four-legged creatures approach the newcomers. "I would have rather never met my father nor my goddess stepmother," Shadow growled.

Brennan watched as Shadow kept his distance from the horses. It made him curious as to why, but decided not to pry, he was sure he had a reason. It also took him a moment to understand what he meant. "Oh...you mean Per-" he cut himself off. He had nearly forgotten that they weren't supposed to say the Gods and Goddesses'names. He covered his mouth for a minute or two, before removing his hand from his face. "...I'm sorry...that it wasn't a pleasant visit." He looked away, to the horse he was feeding. He decided to change the subject, as it wasn't any of his business to pry into Shadow's life. "You and I both. I pity the person who challenges Echo to a fight."

Shadow stood watching the horse feed on the grain in the bucket, careful to keep an eye on Shadow. The feeling was mutual coming from Shadow. He doubted that his uncle's creations wanted just a little as he wanted to do with him as he did with them. Besides, his father represented death which just didn't mix well with most living things. "It's fine," he lied with a small shrug of his shoulders. "Yes, that and the fact that she can use charmspeak is a bit of a scary combo. That's coming from the son of the underworld god." A small smile crossed his face as a mental image of Echo popped into his head.

Brennan gave a small smirk, looking to Shadow. There was a knowing glint in his eyes. "Do you happen to fancy her?" He asked curiously, moving onto the next horse casually. "It's okay if you do, I'm no tattle tale." He gave a small chuckle, and went to fill another bucket.

Shadow push a bunch of air out his mouth with a "pfft" sound and was shaking his head. "Really? Fancy? That's the term you want to use?" he said attempting to avoid the intention of the question. He turned to walked up to a black pegasus only for it to shake it's head and back away. Wow, I actually try to be nice to the dam things...

Shadow's reaction caused a small snicker to come from Brennan. He set the bucket down after the horse finished feeding, and put a hand on his hip. "That doesn't sound like a denial." He teased, moving in slightly to try and calm the pegasus. "Like I said, I won't tell." He said, petting the animal's head, looking at Shadow. "It's okay if you do like her." He smiled reassuringly.

Shadow shifted his mouth to the side, biting the inside of his cheek in slightly annoyance. Not directed at Brennan, but mostly himself for revealing his predicament to someone especially Echo's sibling. He tried his best to ignore Brenna's gaze, but he rolled his eyes before giving a shake of his head. "So what... Why would anyone like a child of Hades?" Shadow grumbled, unafraid to use his father's name.

Brennan tilted his head and raised an eyebrow at him. "Why does it matter who your parent is?" he asked back without missing a beat. "I like you. I don't care that your father is the King of the Underworld." he crossed his arms, leaning against one of the stable pillars. "If you like someone, you like them for who they are, not for where they come from or who they're related to." he told him, his look gentle. He still didn't know much about the two, or their relationship to one another, but he wanted to help them both. "And I'm sure Echo would like you for who you are. You seem nice, and pretty patient. I know we haven't known each other long, but I'd already consider you a friend."

Shadow fully turned to look at Brennan with his eyebrows raised before fully breaking down in laughter. He clutched his stomach from laughing so hard, the laughter making it a little difficult to catch his breath. He took about thirty seconds before wiping his eyes of tears and shook his head. "I know that we probably the same age, but there is a large difference in summer Half-Bloods compared to year-rounders. Most year-rounders don't get much time outside of the camp boundaries, so we are less experienced in the world," Shadow explained concisely. "Now, add in the factor of being a child of the Big Three and especially a child of Hades, people aren't particularly fond of us. Not only are we powerful, but we are very dangerous."
Shadow was grateful to hear the optimism from Brennan, but that was likely about to change once he finished his story. "I'm not sure if you heard this story, but last year during the winter season another camper was bullying a younger camper. I was so angry that I used my powers to pull the kid into the shadows and left him there for a full day. Let's just say that despite my good intentions, I was punished quite severely," Shadow said flicking his hands upward. His face darken a little as he glanced away from Brennan, but he shook his head. "And I'd do it again to anyone if they bullied any one of these younger campers. Now do you understand why some others are afraid of certain children?"

Brennan was taken aback by Shadow's laughter, but waited until he was done. He watched him as he spoke, telling his story. Maybe he was right, Brennan could be a bit naive sometimes, but that didn't matter to him. He scratched the top of his head as he thought about what Shadow said, before shrugging. "So you stuck up for a younger camper. I don't see that as a bad thing. Your heart was in the right place, and that's really all that matters. I would have done the same thing." he told him, still watching him, as if trying to find a crack in Shadow's demeanor. "Others might find it unnerving, but what does it matter? Like I said, I like you." he said, putting his hand on his chest as he emphasized "I". "I think you're pretty cool. You have good intentions, and you stick up for others. You even accompanied me to the stables, even though you didn't have to, and you're still here talking with me. Anyone who can do all that, isn't too bad, in my book."

Shadow shook his head as he glanced away from Brennan. Despite their difference in size, he felt as if he was smaller and was getting a talking to by an older camper. "Yeah, I can see what you mean," Shadow muttered. His intentions were good in protecting the younger camper, but the issues he created was more than he let on. The camper he spoke about was having a full mental breakdown after he pulled him out of the shadows. "So you think Echo wouldn't care about who my godly parent is?" he asked rubbing the back of his neck.

Brennan noticed Shadow's hesitation, but decided he'd let it go. He probably said to much as it was, but he smiled brightly at Shadow's question. "I don't think she'd care much at all." He said, then put his finger to his chin. "I can't say as I'm very close to her, or that I can speak for her, but I think she'd probably be a bit surprised. Most people like the kids of Aphrodite for their looks, and I'm sure she's no exception....so I'm sure it'd be a nice change for someone to actually like her for who she is, instead of how she looks." He told him confidently. He didn't want to give Shadow false hope, but he did honestly think it was sweet that Shadow liked Echo for herself, and not for who her mother was. He patted him on the shoulder. "I think you should go for it. Just be honest with her. That's usually the best way to tell someone you like them. I'm sure the two of you will be fine."

Shadow huff in a breath of air with a small smirk as Brennan patted his shoulder. "Echo has always been helpful and concerned for others, but she'd never make it that easy for me," Shadow said with a chuckle. He did like Echo for appearance of course, her scars did not bother him at all. To him they weren't imperfections, her scars were marks of resilience and strength. "Not saying she is playing hard to get, but she's gonna make me work for it."

Shadow couldn't help but shake his head as he also knew Echo would never make it as easy as just asking her out. Embarrassment for not just Shadow, but also Echo and probably even Aphrodite. He cringed at the thought of total rejection and the anxiety that followed. Most children of Hades have issues with their fatal flaws being related to holding grudges against others, but Shadow has always felt like his involved lack of companionship. He hardly spoke to anyone and when he did it was never just to have a conversation. "Yeah you're definitely not wrong," Shadow replied.
