She was happy to take the lead, letting them walk in silence until they reached the den. She didn't feel much for talking right now, Rowan seemed a bit grumpy in the mornings she'd have to remember that for the days ahead. Once outside, she peaked her head in and saw Shadepaw by herself, staring intently at a leaf before her. Even Softchirp knew it was a borage leaf but the apprentice seemed to be thinking long and hard over where it belonged. She tried to find Whitespark but it appeared it was only the brown tabby molly here. She contemplated having Rowan return to the spare den with her until she returned but Shadepaw had looked up from her training to notice them.
"Hey! Hey!" She abandoned her work to rush over to them, eyes still wide in amazement at the rogue/loner standing beside Softchirp. "Whitespark is out getting more catmint, she said I could look over you today all by myself though!" She walked behind Rowan, nudging his hindquarters so he would come into the den. Softchirp stood awkwardly in the entrance, wondering if she should join them or not. "You can go get some prey, the pile is still pretty full from the hunting patrol last night. I can take care of Rowan and send him back to you!" The she-cat dismissed Softchirp quickly, giving her an uneasy feeling in her stomach. She wasn't one to argue with a medicine cat though, even if it was an apprentice. She gave Rowan a look to say 'good luck' before ducking out of the den and heading into the clearing.
Once she was gone, Shadepaw took it upon herself to look over his wound, running a gentle paw over it before going to the herb store. "I've been waiting for you to come in here since yesterday! I still have so many questions left to ask!" She called over her shoulder, grabbing a few leaves and cobwebs to dress it.

(shadepaw is going to be the cutest ever)
Though he wasn't quite stormy, Rowan probably wasn't going to make fascinating conversation--but he blinked and bit his lip as Softchirp didn't make any attempt at all to converse with him after he spoke. It rubbed him a little strangely, just a little more negatively on top of his morning grumpiness.
Speaking of the curious little question filled she-cat, Whitespark was nowhere to be found and the apprentice looked so intent on the leaf in front of her that Rowan almost cracked a chuckle at the sight of it. He held it back, though, figuring they would have to come back when the medicine cat had returned.
But no, Shadepaw announced that she was in charge of him today, and he blinked with widening, surprised eyes. They trusted the little cat to get this task done? What if she didn't heal it properly? He was about to open his mouth, but he got caught up in figuring out how he was supposed to carefully protest without offending or, even worse, hurting the cat who couldn't be much older than a kit. He certainly couldn't turn her curiosity into hostility when the whole clan already felt that way. He gave a quiet grunt as she nudged his hindquarters, making him step further into the den of his interrogation.
His hesitance spelled his doom as Shadepaw dismissed Softchirp, and as he took a deep breath and Softchirp left the den, he missed her good luck glance and prepared himself for a one-on-one onslaught. He forced a smile on his face as she spoke of anticipating him since the previous day, which made it pretty easy to keep a smile on his face despite his grumpiness. He managed a quiet chuckle, which quickly turned to a sharp intake of breath as Shadepaw ran her little paw over the wound. Sure, it hadn't been burning him when he woke up, but it certainly didn't feel good to have a paw pressing against it, however lightly, and it took a lot of strength to keep from glaring at her callous manner of checking the wound.
"I'm sorry I didn't make it in yesterday," He mewed quietly, slowly lowering himself low to the floor and looking up towards the apprentice. "The wound, and almost getting shredded apart by your clanmates took more energy out of me than I expected it too," He mewed bluntly, not shielding the small cat from what her clanmates thought of him. "I hope you didn't miss sleep thinking up all of these questions you're going to ask me," He mewed tiredly, with a hint of humor to his tone.

↦↦✿↤↤She was busy chewing up a poultice as he spoke, she wasn't the type to chew with her mouth closed either, making a small 'smacking' sound as she continued to chew it up. Her mother had tried to curb this behavior when she was a small kit but it did no good, she was sure to rolling over in Starclan in embarrassment. Once it was done, she placed it on his wound and put her to the side, trying to examine it from all angles. The young apprentice was certainly not the average apprentice of a medicine cat, taking things way too literal from her mentor. "I didn't lose any sleep! Matter of fact, I came up with even more questions while I was!" She puffed her chest out proudly, sure most cats would be more...reserved but she wasn't like most cats.
"I think we left off on how you got injured right? It was another cat....was it a rogue? Father always said rogues were big scary cats, only out for their own good and didn't care who they hurt in their way. Or was it a loner? Those sometimes show up on our territory, kinda like you. I've never met one personally but the warriors always say they are friendly enough. It couldn't have been kittypets though..." she trailed off, moving from her work to look him in the eyes with a small laugh before it dropped suddenly. "Wait was it kittypets? I could even take on a kittypet, I'm sure. I don't know much about fighting besides what Bravethorn had shown me when I was a kit but I heard kittypets didn't even know how to catch prey properly, what with their stomping around and big ol fat bellies!" She tried to push her stomach out to make it seem fat but of course this didn't work, instead she only look bloated. After a few moments of this, she let out a long exaggerated breath from holding it in. After this, she went to grab cobweb but stopped before she did, glancing back at his side with a quizzical look. She got up and placed the cobwebs back on the shelf, deeming them not needed for the way it looked now, the poultice she had put on would be enough for now. Instead of dismissing him, she sat down and wrapped her tail over her paws awaiting his answers.

Rowan gave a quiet snort as she reassured him that she hadn't lost any sleep, in fact benefiting from it. "Of course you did," He murmured quietly. "How could I ever think otherwise?"
He was examining her every move quite closely as she worked on his wound, not expecting how natural this seemed to be to Shadepaw. Despite how young she was, she flowed through this work with a natural grace and made this an almost painless experience for him. Well...the wound part, at least. He had to pull himself out of his head as she started chatting at him again.
Shadepaw must have caught his deep breath after she commented it couldn't have been the soft cats who lived in the warm dens, because her tone changed and suddenly, the cat who he could probably knock over with a single paw was mocking him for how silly it was to get beaten in a fight by one of them. He stared at her with an intentional gaze, leaving his emotions off of his face as she mimicked the type of cat who he had told Softchirp had hurt him in the fight. "You better be careful," Rowan mewed with a hint of teasing to his voice. "That...kittypet didn't exactly get off easy, either. And if there were some cat who thought otherwise..." His eyes glinted at Shadepaw as he paused for dramatic effect. "They might end up on the wrong side of my terrible claws!" He lifted a paw and unsheathed his claws, holding them up into the air and gazing at them for dramatic effect.
Then, his gaze turned back to her and he cracked a smile, letting out a laugh as an acknowledgement of how ridiculous he sounded. Already settled on the floor of the den, he matched her posture by wrappingg his tail around his own paws after he set the one back down next to the other. "It hurt when I got it, but I didn't realize at the moment how deep it was. Once I made it away and started padding through your territory, I started realizing how much it was hurting and how much blood I was losing. So...I was lucky Softchirp showed up when she did, and especially that she was the first cat I encountered." That was absolutely true. Her clanmates could have left him to bleed, and sent him away with more injuries if he refused to go.

↦↦✿↤↤She didn't seem to think it quiet a joke, jumping slightly back as she looked at his claws. Of course she was the more skittish of the apprentices, it was to be given. Her fur flattened rather quickly though and she took her spot once more. "They still did quiet the number on you, have you thought about learning more fighting moves?" Her head cocked to the side as she tried to think of a warrior taking one on, it would certainly not end as badly as it had for him.
"It is good that Softchirp was there though. If only I had been out searching for herbs later in the day, maybe I would have found you! I wouldn't be able to convince Gingerstar as well as Softchirp but I'm sure I could have made it where you were still staying here. Ooo then maybe you'd be sleeping in here and I could have asked all these questions last night!" She huffed, still a bit miffed that her mentor hadn't allowed him to be in the medicine cat's den. She knew the warrior's spare den was going unused but it wasn't exactly that comfortable, especially compared to her own den. The last warrior in there, her father, always complained of the draft inside and she was sure no apprentice had bothered to fix it since then.
"What do you think of the clan so far, by the way? Is it everything you imagined? Well of course you probably didn't hear about us before finding yourself here but I like to think that as a kit, outsiders here all these great stories about us. I mean, I have to and it brings a sense of pride to me. I'm sure the clan has affected more than just ourselves." She sat there pondering for a few moments, wondering if she could recall any stories that would involve an outside cat. It took a few moments but she finally remembered one she was told by the elders who had since passed.
"Like, okay, there was this loner a long time ago. Probably so long that any cat who knew his name in this clan are in the elder's den even then, they were probably only apprentices when this happened. Anyways, so Batshade was just patrolling the border side with the river and he heard these loud yowls. It was quiet the show, the cat was in the water!" She tried to stifle a laugh at the image, the poor loner had decided to take a plunge based on what stories had said. She never could understand why he decided to do this, any cat with a bit of brains knew better than the go in that river during the first few weeks of Newleaf. "Batshade saved him of course but he was half drowned so they had to bring him to camp, I think the medicine cat back then was...Heavyfoot. Heavyfoot brought him back to health but the poor thing knew nothing of the outside world it seemed. Like he couldn't even catch prey on his own! So Batshade took him under his paws and showed him the way of a clan cat. Everyone at the time thought he would join us, seemed practical enough at least given the situation. Batshade even thought of him as his own kit." She paused, trying to recall more of the story, why it was so important to her question. "Honestly though, that parts a bit weird considering Batshade did have kits on the way, Sandhawk and Cindershade though he seemed to be ignoring his mate during this whole time to focus on the loner. The day came and everyone was ready to hear their answer, were they going to stay or leave?" She paused once more, though this time for dramatic effect. "The loner chose to leave, quiet the sad end right? Not really pertaining to my current question right?" She shook her head no, leaning towards him to whisper the true ending.
"Well the clan was sad, but they let him go. Only a few nights later had he shown back with a few other cats. They had to be chased off because they wanted to set up their own camp on our territory!" She seemed shocked at this thought, cats wanting to challenge her clan was beyond her. They may be a bit smaller in numbers now but they were still a force to be reckoned with in her eyes. "So I always wonder if cats hear about the clan outside our walls due to this story, do they?"
{Sorry again if the backstory is too much xD I love a lil lore and explanation here and there, so I thought that'd help explain their disdain for strangers in their camp.}

Yeah, you would have liked that, I imagine, Rowan mused to himself as he pictured himself sitting in this den all day, being bombarded by the apprentice's unending curiosity. Would he have gone crazy? Possibly. Perhaps the spare den was a sort of blessing in disguise.
He prepared himself to diplomatically answer her question, thinking about the camp and that he hadn't exactly been given the opportunity to experience any of that life yet. He was a prisoner. As far as stories went...he had heard plenty of them. The stories were why they wanted the territory, probably--the stories told of the sorts of riches these clan cats enjoyed, the bountiful prey, the open land...who wouldn't want that sort of luxury?
But he obviously couldn't say that, and so he was relieved when the apprentice continued to speak. He didn't say anything as Shadepaw communicated the history of this loner to him, but his focus was on her and he made sure she knew she had his attention. It seemed strange to him that a cat with a mate and kits would focus in so much on a loner, as this Batshade seemed to have done, but he didn't interrupt her to say that.
Rowan tilted his head at Shadepaw as she mentioned the loner chose to leave, and that the clan had been really sad about it. Weren't the clans...isolationists? Didn't they not want any other cats around than their own? That is what he had heard, at least. The story didn't seem to match what he knew, but it had been quite some time ago.
But then, Shadepaw dropped the moss on what happened in the end. He went stiff, untiling his head, staring at Shadepaw with a hard and cold glint in his eyes. They had to be chased off because they wanted to set up their own camp on our territory! Shadepaw's words repeated in his head, and he felt a spike of anxiety run through his pelt and bristle his fur slightly. This was starting to sound eerily close to the story of...well, what was going to happen. It was legitimately spooking the rogue cat, as he tried to figure out if this was some sort of under-the-paw test he wouldn't expect from a cat that he wouldn't have thought would test him.
"How...unfortunate..." His mew was flat and quiet, certainly not an interesting or shocked reaction like Shadepaw was feeling. "Well," He cleared his throat, trying to gain a hold on his composure so he didn't end up looking suspicious amidst how shaken he was by the story, a history which seemed he was assigned to repeat. "I clearly didn't hear enough to keep me from wandering into lands that are yours," He licked down some of his chest fur, the slightly bristling fur on his pelt starting to reset itself. "But I have heard of the clans. I couldn't tell you which is which, though. There's...here, Chasmclan, and..." He held silent for a few moments, then shrugged.

↦↦✿↤↤Other clans? She never heard of other clans. This certainly piqued the young apprentice's interest as she scoot herself just a tad bit closer, eyes wide. "There's other clans? Just like ours? You're kidding! I would love to hear about them, I so woulddddd" She pleaded, tail tapping the ground impatiently. Okay so it was a bit of a lie, she had heard of other clans. But the only other clan she heard of was long long ago and could be chalked up to a Queen's tale. That Chasmclan once was divided into two until a great war happened and they were called to join forces. Afterwards, the two clans couldn't bring themselves to become separate once more so they became one under the name of Chasmclan. She was so ready to hear his reply she almost missed the sound of a cat at the entrance, She turned her head to tell Softchirp to leave once more but was stopped when she realized it wasn't the older warrior, instead it was her mentor with a mouthful of herbs. Whitespark glanced between the two before slipping by them to go deeper into the herb store. Shadepaw knew their time would be cut short soon, so after he explained these other clans she would be sure to give him so medicine cat advice and send him back to Softchirp.
{I'm thinking of tomorrow Shadepaw will recieve her medicine cat name, not really important but was wondering if that'd be okay in the time frame? It'd be interesting to see Rowan's reaction to her no longer being Shadepaw. This could be a test from Whitespark, her working on him by herself. }

(Yeah that sounds good to me, I like the idea of him being the test that gets her her name because it creates the start of a bond between them I think, one that can be kind of called upon by either one of them once things are getting abit suspicious with Rowan)
Rowan was genuinely interested to hear whether the apprentice knew of the other clans--he had been expecting she would, that the clans would be pretty close to this one, but the whispers that went through his group weren't reliably, clearly, and he looked disappointed as she voiced that she wasn't aware of other clans. "Oh, well...Kittypets gossip a lot, I've just heard of more than one clan, I...I think, but...No matter." He shrugged slightly, then glanced to the side as he realized that Whitespark had entered without him even noticing--sloppy of him.
Remembering Whitespark's briskness with him the previous day, his gaze didn't linger for long. He turned back to Shadepaw, taking in a deep breath. "So, how is it? I don't think it's infected, but you would know a lot better than I would." He mewed quietly.

↦↦✿↤↤She was a bit disappointed to not hear more about these other clans but she didn't dwell on it long, instead giving his wound one last look. She tried to recall all of her herb knowledge and gave a small purr. "You're right, it's not infected. It's healing actually pretty nicely considering everything, though that would be thanks to Whitespark I guess since she was the one who helped you out yesterday." She paused, looking to the medicine cat herb store for her mentor. The white she-cat was quick to leave and take a spot next to her apprentice, looking over her work in a quick but gentle manner. She didn't say anything, just let Shadepaw have the floor once more.
"I...well it should be healed within the next coming sunrises, just remember to take it easy until then and maybe a bit afterwards until the scar tissue has fully formed. Don't want to risk ripping it open the first day out of the territory." She joked, giving him a purr once more. "Just make sure to come back tomorrow for me to redress it, it shouldn't need as many herbs plastered on it as it does right now." With that, she looked to Whitespark who just gave a simple nod before opening her own mouth.
"Shadepaw is correct, just return tomorrow. As for now, you should probably go find Softchirp. I need to speak with my apprentice alone, so if you may please leave the den." With that, Whitespark got up from her spot once more and moved back to the herb store, beckoning for Shadepaw to follow. She hopped to her feet and skipped over to her mentor, a bit nervous to what she had to say.
{Very true, I didn't think of that tbh but she would be more quick to defend him since he's partially the reason she got her full name. Look at Rowan go, getting two backers in only two days xD }

(Hahaha what a snake persuasive boi xP )
Rowan nodded in understanding along with Shadepaw's instructions, even if he did not look forward to being cooped up around this place for the entirety of the day. Hopefully he was going to be to the point where he could stretch out and move soon without risking reopening the wound...but Shadepaw told him that it was healing. That was a good sign.
"I'll tell Softchirp that I have to come back tomorrow," He acknowledged Shadepaw's order, before focusing back on Whitespark as the medicine cat padded over to evaluate the work on her own. He watched the medicine cat closely, trying to get a sense of what was running through the cat's mind--he didn't have to wonder much more as she echoed the apprentice, and then rather shortly dismissed him.
His eyebrows narrowed a little, a reflex that he didn't mean to show but that he failed to hide. The medicine cat had barely said two things to him, but she was extremely suspicious of him and didn't care how her words came off to him. This wasn't even the worst of what the rumors of the clan cats said, but her demeanor was managing to get under his pelt.
He turned to say goodbye to Shadepaw, but she was already trotting over to her mentor. With a quiet sigh, he lifted himself up to his paws, turning around and silently leaving the den. He peeked around the camp, first seeing how many cats were in camp, and who exactly he could see before checking back in with Softchirp. He needed to figure out how many cats would be around in the morning.

The she-cat was sat near the opposite side of the medicine cat's den, talking in quick rushed voices with a white molly and light tortoiseshell she-cat. The three seemed engrossed in their conversation too much to notice that Rowan had emerged from the medicine cat's den. Softchirp caught him out of the corner of her eye for just a moment though she didn't acknowledge him just yet, instead turning back to the two.
"I think he's kinda cute." Mewed the tortoiseshell she-cat, puffing up her fur slightly. Softchirp had to stifle a laugh at her remark, of course Coppersnow would find the good in a bad situation and would turn it into this. She had been ambushed by the two while trying to find Quailpad, it wasn't unwelcome though considering they were the more friendly of the clan cats. She would have to find an out soon, she couldn't leave Rowan wandering around like he was. At least the deputy and leader were nowhere to be seen, most likely conversing in the leader's den.
"Did you figure out anything interesting about him?" Mistyglow intervened, trying to leave the topic of the loner being cute. Softchirp tried to think of something she could share, she didn't want to retell his whole life story to them. It might not be he wanted after all.
"He's just your average loner, nothing to fear about him I'm sure." She mewed, looking back to him finally. The two seemed to understand and followed her gaze, Coppersnow letting a small giggle escape as she fell back from the conversation. Coppersnow was quick to follow, the two of them making their way to the fresh-kill pile. Softchirp had got up to walk to Rowan but was stopped by Snowmask, the she-cat had been listening to them this whole time. She tried to be friendly to her, she really did but she seemed grumpier than your average elder most days.
"Those two, they know nothing of the rules laid before us. I do not envy you Softchirp for your position now. If I were in your paws I'd throw myself off the camp calls and hope Starclan called my name by the end." Her words were like water running off Softchirp's back, she was not phased at all by the malice in them.
"You know, he's actually pretty sweet, Snowmask. If you let yourself see beyond our code then maybe you'd be happier in your life. I, for one, enjoy being in charge of him. He's quiet the conversationalist." With that, she brushed past and to him, a purr rising in her throat as she approached. She wouldn't let the more 'traditional' side of her clan damper her moments with him. She enjoyed his company more with each passing moment and she couldn't pinpoint the feelings she was getting when the two were together. She believed it be friendship but when she had friends as an apprentice it never felt this way for her. She would have to figure it out as the spent more time together she presumed but she felt this desire to defend him to cats who would never change their minds anyways. In the past, she would be quick to fall into line and just agree with their words to not create ripples in her life.
{I have also decided Softchirp is gonna start having a small crush, dw im not gonna rush anything I imagine she doesn't even know what a 'crush' feels like considering shes never had one.}

(Hmm alrighty, Rowan is going to be a slow burn, struggling to manage being a plant in the clan with starting to feel real emotions and stuff.)
Rowan found a few cats lumbering about, and then saw Softchirp with a couple other cats and Snowmask, a few tail-lengths away, with her ears perked and her eyes focused on Softchirp's conversation. He watched Snowmask for a few moments, wondering what was going on since he had entered the medicine cat's den, but soon, Softchirp was departing her pair of clanmates and padding towards him.
He started giving her a smile when Snowmask kept him from doing so, interrupting Softchirp's path and speaking inaudibly with the warrior. He couldn't hear what was being said, but Softchirp's expression didn't look pleasant to him, and he had to wonder if what just happened was some of that blame-filled ire that Softchirp had let him in on. Did her clanmates, Snowmask...did they just take any chance to give her grief?
His ears flicked as he detected the purr in her throat, and he tilted his head slightly at her at her approach. She had looked almost...sour, or displeased, or something moments earlier, but as she reunited with him he saw her disposition change rather swiftly. Maybe she had learned how to hide her negative emotions well. "Hey." He quietly mewed to her as she came to a stop in front of him. "Umm...So, Shadepaw said, after a lot of questions, that the wound looks better and that it isn't infected. So..I'm just not supposed to do any serious movement, same as yesterday, and she says it should be better within a couple days, I think." His tone was jovial until about halfway through his sentence, when his tone dipped and became a little more...flat, perhaps, as he noted that it seemed his departure was meant to be...soon.

Softchirp noted the flatness in his tone but couldn't understand exactly why he seemed slightly upset. Healing was supposed to be a good thing, something to look forward to right? She couldn't imagine enjoying being injured. Then it finally all clicked together, once he was healed he would be sent back into the city. Not a trace of him would be left within the camp walls, just a lingering memory in the heads of those who chose to recall him. She didn't want to put a damper on their time, even if it coming to a close only in a feel short days.
"Well hey, that also means you and I can go see the water soon!" She whispered, looking around to make sure no other cat was listening on in them. They appeared to be alone in the clearing for the time being, the rest of the clan cats were milling about on the outer edges now, sharing tongues and prey. She watched them for a few heartbeats, envy settling in. Once Rowan took his leave, she'd be back to eating alone unless someone felt sorry for her. She couldn't deny that her life in the clan might change when he goes, she didn't want to fall back into her old patterns anymore. Feeling like a failure, like everything was her fault and she deserved the silence she was entrapped in. She pulled her gaze from the cats finally, focusing back on him.
"It's a good thing those kittypets didn't do worse to you though, make sure to count your blessings there. You could have ended up blinded, or worse dead." She shivered at the thought, it would be quiet the embarrassment to die that way. She could hear the laughter of the kittypets and any cat who heard the story.
{That's a-okay! I think she's catching feelings so soon since she doesn't really interact with many cats in a friendly manner, so being able to speak her thoughts and be reassured in her feelings made her catch them so quickly if that makes sense?? Like her whole life she was treated like she messed up at every corner then suddenly a stranger comes around and basically says 'no, you're not' so she's all confused and whatnot.}

(Alright, that makes sense to me c: her attaching to Rowan for just giving her the time of day makes sense. And I think that Rowan will start to see the disdain some of her clanmates have for her, and will develop feelings for her as he begins to sense the way she is constantly blamed and scorned, even as she still tries to get back in their good graces)
Rowan knew she was playing him for a fool at this point, but the simple idea of gazing upon a body of water that he had never experienced before was leaving him with a sense of wonder and want. Though he was letting himself be played, a slight smile made its way onto his face. Seeing the water soon...Yeah, we...we could... Softchirp dragged him out of his dirt-pile of thoughts, and his eyes must have shone with just a bit of optimism for the future to come.
His eyes dulled a bit as she pointed out the present moment, what could have been his 'now' if he had encountered something worse than a..."kittypet." Of course...she didn't know. She was voicing thankfulness that he made it out okay, but she didn't know he was nothing more than a monster put here to deceive her.
"I'm glad it all....turned out well..." His voice shivered just a bit more than he meant to let it, and his gaze drifted from her eyes down to her paws as he struggled to meet her own gaze. He didn't really deserve her concern at all.

She put her head to the side, worry written all over her face. Had he hoped the kittypets would end him or was something else at play here? She couldn't quiet put her paw on it but she didn't want to question him in the clearing, instead they could get more into it when they were alone. Until then, what could they do? It would be quiet boring to continue on laying around, despite her desire before to do so it was already making her stir crazy. He couldn't exactly go waltzing around the territory, he had to heal up and rest.
"Anything you wish to do today? I know there's not much but I'm sure there's more we cou-" She was cut off by the entrance of Gingerstar and Quailpad, both making their way over to them. A silence fell on the clan as every cat watched the leader and deputy with interest. Softchirp felt a ball of dread form in the pit of her stomach, if both of them were coming over then it couldn't mean good news for them surely.
"Loner, you are needed in our den." Gingerstar spoke curtly, not even bothering to acknowledge her daughter standing right there. What do they need Rowan for? Surely they aren't wanting idle chatter with him. Quailpad moved to stand beside the leader, forcing Softchirp to step back to make room for him. She was now out of sight for the tom, trying to stand on the tip of her paws to peer over the deputy but it was proven futile
"Uhm, Mother, what's this about?" She finally asked, squeezing herself between them. Gingerstar still didn't bother to even glance at her daughter, instead answering while staring directly at the Loner before her.
"This is of no business of yours, Softchirp. Don't go sticking your nose in places it doesn't belong." Her words were harsh but nothing new for the warrior as she slunk back into her spot. She would have to find out more after the meeting, when Rowan was back inside the spare den with her. She could still feel all eyes on them, which made her pelt grow red hot in embarrassment. It was never a pleasant moment to be scolded so openly in front of her clan like this. She was the one put in charge of the tom, she had a right to know what her mother was planning to do.

Rowan had a pretty quick reaction to Softchirp--as she asked whether there was something in particular he would like to do, his worried expression seemed to change, but before he could personally say anything, the two of them were interrupted and left to listen as Gingerstar, somehow, snuck up on them and prepared to intervene in his conversation with Softchirp.
But Rowan was not prepared for the direction this took. Gingerstar spoke at him without much gentleness, demanding his presence immediately. He stepped back half a pawstep as the muscular leader squeezed her way between himself and his acquaintance, the warrior. He wasn't certain what caused this sudden demand, but even Softchirp seemed not to appreciate Gingerstar barging in, as she spoke up.
His eyes narrowed as Gingerstar brushed Softchirp off like a rat in the way, and Rowan felt annoyance prickling at his pelt as Softchirp slunk back, falling into her obedient place as a quiet warrior. He didn't understand why, but the rogue felt a special sense of annoyance as the leader of this clan disregarded her as unworthy of knowing what this was about--and it was probably fueled by what Softchirp had told him.
Even if he needed to infiltrate the clan, something made the tom feel a special kind of indignance at the leader's dismissal of Softchirp. The warrior had read him into the sort of unfairness she was being treated to, and he didn't appreciate it at all. Not caring about the repurcussions, Rowan stepped forward to meet Softchirp, forgetting his own personal boundaries, and the tom despite how hesistance the previous day, and pressed his nose against Softchirp's sweetly. "Don't worry. I'll fill you in soon," He called rather loudly, just as much of a statement to Gingerstar as it was a reassurance to Softchirp. He was trying to display an aura of cool to the other clan cats.
As he pressed his nose against Softchirp's, Rowan felt a burst of emotion, divided in between two emotions. Half of it was a sense of seriousness, that Gingerstar was calling on him and that he needed to prove his cover as strongly as possible. The other half...Rowan had been sold on Softchirp's honesty, that she was scorned by her clan, and he was totally played into feeling utter sympathy for the warrior. She didn't deserve this sort of scorn from her clanmates. Something about this whole experience made him assure her that this he was going to go out of his way to give her an understanding of this situation, whatever this situation was. It certainly wasn't in character for the rogue.

When his touched hers, she felt a different burning in her but before she could say anything more he pulled away. Her eyes went to her mother's, finally settling on the warrior. Her eyes were narrowed in slits, obviously displeased by this even if it was something as small as touching noses. Quailpad looked as though he was about to say something but Gingerstar cut him off with a quick move of her tail. The two stared at each other for several moments before Gingerstar chose to break away. The leader took a quick turn and moved back into her den, not waiting to see if Rowan was following. Quailpad on the other hand, cut between the two with a swift movement, shoving Rowan rather harshly despite his wounds.
"Follow Gingerstar if you know what's going for you, as for you Softchirp it appears I will not be joining the leader, instead I will be teaching you once more what's appropiate for a warrior and what's not." He spoke loudly, wanting the other warrior's to hear his scolding. He didn't care if she was the leader's kit or not, openly making friends with a prisoner was against any code he followed and he would be sure Softchirp learned her place in the clan as a warrior. He moved to Softchirp once more, giving her a shove once more to get her moving on her paws. She gave Rowan a look to say 'I'm sorry' before following the deputy towards the entrance of camp. She didn't see what the big deal was, it was a simple action of friendship nothing more. She didn't dare speak out at this point though, following like a kitten would it's mother. The two were making their way up towards the territory, obviously this conversation would be more private than she thought.

Rowan hesitated as his gaze turned back to Softchirp, feeling a sense of palpable tension between Softchirp and Quailpad, and, well...based on what Quailpad was saying, it seemed like it involved him as well. He couldn't say that he hadn't been tuned into Quailpad's attitude already, but as he heard the warrior's voice behind him he couldn't help but feel a sense of hostility to the warrior's tone of...well...'correcting' Softchirp. Quailpad thought less than the dirt beneat hhis paws of the loner, and this left Rowan with a rather sour taste in his mouth.
Still, he was unwilling to show any direct dissent as he was commanded to follow GIngerstar. That was a path he knew would end in total pain for him. Obediently, he made his way after Gingerstar, ascending the personal plateau that the leader received for their den. When he came to the entrance, he gulped, feeling a twinge of nervousness striking him.

The leader sat in her nest, tail flicking behind her. The nerve of the tom to do that in front of her clan, she didn't care what he lived back before he was in their camp and he should show more respect towards her and her clan. She couldn't pretend to be surprised though, her daughter was always the weaker willed of the litter. Always following her heart and believing that there's good in any cat, making friends with a loner wasn't beyond her. It was still shameful, she had held onto a small flicker of hope that for once in her life Softchirp would obey orders and do nothing more. Now she had more on her paws, the whispers in the clan would have already begun. A leader's kit being friendly with a cat outside the clan? Such embarrassment for us as a clan!
When Rowan entered, the look on her face grew sour as she if she had ate a rancid mouse. She had so many words floating in her mind but she wanted to get them out in the best way possible, to stumble of her words would be even more shameful at this point. She adjusted herself in her nest, sitting straight so she could look down on him instead of directly at.
"I only brought you in here originally to question your story of how you got here. Which is quiet the tale so I've heard. Hurt from some other cat right? I would imagine you loners didn't take such risk in your life. Then again, you took a greater risk approaching my clan. Lucky for you it happened to be Softchirp and not some other warrior. Though I doubt you need to be reminded of this, the other cats of this clan aren't exactly shy about their feelings towards you. I heard enough of it yesterday, rumors carry through these walls quickly." She took a deep breath, trying to relax and not let anger overtake her again. She knew full well that Softchirp was being punished properly for her actions right now. "Besides the point, that was quiet the show you put on back there. I'm sure you know full well that Softchirp is my daughter, do you think it'd soften our hearts to see you bringing such care for her? She is very naive in the sense of your kind. I might even envy her for that if it wasn't bringing her own downfall." She knew the day would come that Softchirp would cause more trouble, it was only a matter of when now not if. When he was brought into the camp yesterday she hadn't been too shocked to discover who found him and brought him back. Putting Softchirp in the position to watch him was a punishment of course but she also was aiming to teach her daughter that loners deserved no kindness beyond simply letting them leave unscathed. This tom had thwarted those plans, whether unintentionally or not.

From the moment Rowan entered, he knew he was at a serious disadvantage. Gingerstar had an absolute command of authority and respect, and Rowan had trouble keeping his facade up upon even gazing upon the leader in her own den. He couldn't comprehend in the slightest what was shaking him up so much, but even knowing the leader wasn't fair to her daughter and having a reason not to respect Gingerstar, the leader just emanated....an aura of power.
Rowan didn't say a word back to the leader until she had completely finished speaking--he did not dare interrupt her when he got this feeling from Gingerstar. Initially, the leader gave him a very hostile approach, leaving him wondering if this conversation was going to turn in a direction that was very antithetical to his mission.
Rowan was able to gain some of his own composure when Gingerstar turned to the subject of his interaction with Softchirp. It was something he had had to prepare for, and had turned away from the vague hostility that Gingerstar had given him initially. "I agree that I was very lucky to encounter Softchirp. I am certain that had it been left to one of the other cats in that patrol, I'd be dead. Such is their sympathy." There was a twinge of negative judgement in his mew, like even as he knew she could skin him alive in a heartbeat he refused to make himself meek and weak in front of the leader. There was a subtle judgement of the other cats in his voice.
"No, I don't expect your heart to be softened at all," He boldly proclaimed the sense he had of Gingerstar, thinking of the way Softchirp had described her relationship with the clan, as he stared directly into the leader's hard, uncaring gaze. As she laid bare that he wanted her daughter to understand that the loners didn't deserve any sympathy from them, he realized two things-- the first being that the leader, really, was right. They were going to take the clan. The second was that Gingerstar really didn't feel any remorse for the way she was treating her daughter. At least none that he could see. It emboldened him, even in the face of the leader's power.
But he was sobered when he remembered that it was the leader who had called him a helpless scrap, and had claimed he was no threat to staying there. It reminded him that, yes, he did need to be cautious. He quickly thought through a way to make himself seem less....combative. "I'm not used to cats who show such concern for strangers. It certainly took me off guard." He blinked at Gingerstar, having set himself down on his haunches. "I suppose you disapprove of that, though." He pulled a breath in through his nostrils, gazing at Gingerstar, completely unblinking. "Don't let me ramble on, though. What is it you wanted me here for?"

She listened to him with disinterest, his answers were nothing new to her. She had gone over any explanation he could have given throughout the night. She had slept very little as she ran through different scenarios. She half expected to wake the next day to the news Softchirp had been killed in her sleep, given the stories she had been given by her own mother and former mate. They were certainly masters of words and she wouldn't let her guard be let down for a moment. When he asked for her intentions of bringing him inside her den, she opened her mouth once more.
"You were brought here so I can examine your true desires within our clan. What exactly brought you here? I don't believe any loners to be near our territory right now which makes your appearance all the more curious. I also don't believe loners to come to us for help, anyone who recalls what happened to the last loner to come into our camp knows better than to ask us to tend to their wounds. So I can only assume you have some alternative motives behind all of this? Are you looking for a full belly and a warm bed to sleep in?" She let the words sink in, knowing it sounded like a vague threat but in reality for her it was a promise of what was to come to him if he tried anything.
"The only reason I'm letting you stay here for so long isn't out of the kindness of my own heart. It may come as a slight shock to you and maybe several others but I respect my daughter's wishes to let you live. She may be a bit starry eyed about the world around her but she deserves to be heard. Wouldn't want her running off, after all." She sounded off at this point, as though she knew of her daughter's former ideas of leaving the clan. She didn't know it fully though, just the absent looks in her eyes around the end of her punishment.

Rowan was unfazed as the leader admitted that she was here to examine what he was doing here, within the clan. He remained silent as she continued speaking, almost showing no emotion on her face at this point. Remembering what Softchirp had said about her mother punishing her, and the subsequent sitance that had been forced upon her, he felt no committment to closing the distance between himself and the leader. Her suspicion was making that feeling easier to hold.
Rowan was unmoved as Gingerstar tried to make it sound like she really respected and appreciated her daughter's wishes. The leader called upon the story he had barely just heard, and it was making him feel like the center of a history that he had nothing to do with--even if he really was, somehow, in line to repeat it.
Her question in the middle of her speech to him left him a little uncertain, like he wasn't certain if she was really asking him or if it was a veiled threat. He watched her carefully, listening the entire time until she had finished speaking. He didn't buy her intentions at all, or at least he didn't believe they were made out of empathy for her daughter, given what Softchirp had told him.
"I expect nothing from you, and as a cat from the city, I was surprised at your daughter's hospitality. So, to answer your question, I did not come looking for anything. I was injured in a battle, and my search for my own method of healing myself brought me here, to your daughter's paws. Perhaps it was a coincidence brought by that...starry clan you believe in." He didn't try to hide that he didn't believe in it at all, instead making a weak and uncaring call on the ancestor clan that Softchirp had told him about. He didn't expect it to be convincing--he said it more just to say something.

Her face seemed as though it couldn't get anymore displeased but he proved this thought wrong when he mentioned Starclan. Of course Softchirp would bring up this aspect of the clan but it still left a sour taste in her mouth. The less he knew of Chasmclan, the better. Softchirp seemed to think differently, which left the leader wondering how much she had revealed. She couldn't dwell on this long though, she still had her questioning to do and she was nowhere near done.
"I doubt Starclan had anything to do with bringing you hear, if anything it was the works of the opposite side of them. I don't believe they watch over your kind, they have no reason to meddle in the lives of such a simplistic bunch of cats." She was certainly not hiding the malice in her voice, she had a strong disdain for loners and rogues since Sandhawk had explained his father's lack of judgement towards one. She remained still for a moment, trying to regain her thoughts. His earlier display had left her still unsettled and her thoughts were all jumbled something unlike the leader.
"I think you need to rethink your time here and how you will spend it. I don't want to see you treating my daughter like you did in front of my clan. Do you have any idea how that makes me look? Having my own flesh and blood grow so close to..." She was baring her teeth now unable to hide the anger any longer. She didn't want to see any warrior stepping out of line but for her own kit to do so was certainly a blow to the ego. "a loner." She finished though it was more kind than the words for him running through her head. "Respect our code and honors while you are here and your time will go by quickly and unnoticed, don't go making friends with others here because you will be gone the second I get the word you're able to. You will be nothing more than a forgotten memory to the cats around here and don't you forget that." She stood up now and gestured for him to leave. She did have more questions but her anger was clouding her mind too much to get them out properly. She would have to bring him back in before he left.

Rowan's expression grew disdainful as Gingerstar gave him such a blatantly insulting characterisation of himself and the cats like him. Of course she didn't know he was a part of a larger group, but he she was fully suspicious of him and that led her to a complete lack of care for how she treated him.
Gingerstar lamented how he seemed to already have affected her daughter, but he couldn't have honestly said that he cared about her negative reaction to Softchirp showing him empathy. Her view of him as little more than a rat to be stomped out of the clan left him feeling no particular debt to the leader. He would have responded with something perhaps a bit snippity, but Gingerstar continued.
By the time she was done, he was dismissed and Rowan was told that he should expect to be completely and utterly forgotten. It was an extremely grim way to throw him out of her company, but he could tell she wasn't going to be willing to hear a thing he said. Any snide comment now was more likely to lead to his expulsion than making a valid point right now.
With a disdainful stare at Gingerstar, he rose, letting his gaze linger on her for a few seconds before he turned around, silently exiting her den as ordered. The way she glared down at him, like he was an insect in the way of her paw's contact with the ground and he needed to be stomped out...nothing about her disposition left him with any remorse for what he was here to do.
He exited Gingerstar's den, descending the peak and, holding his head plenty high, he said nothing as he made his way to the spare den where he was to remain, not even checking to see if Softchirp had returned from her 'chat' with Quailpad. He wasn't even aware of it, but his pelt was bristling with hostility towards the leader as he made his way back to the den.

She had followed Quailpad for a while now, feeling a bit unsettled by how far the two were walking but he finally made an abrupt stop and turned to her, eyes blazing. She cowered down at this, always the one to shy away from the fury of others. You think by now I'd be used to this kind of treatment but not yet I suppose.
"Softchirp, you were given a single assignment and somehow you managed to muddle that up! Watch the loner, keep an eye on him. Not going being his friend. Do you understand the rumors that will bounce throughout the clan now?! They will think you are blood traitor!" He hissed, shoving his muzzle into her face. His fiery temper was nothing new but it still made her scared every time it reared it's ugly head. She couldn't imagine the clan gossiping like this though, it was kit's gossip by the sound of it. A simple move of friendship shouldn't cause so much outrage. She tried to bring herself up from her crouched position but she was locked into this position, eyes looking anywhere but at him. He was awaiting an answer from her though, she had to give something.
"Rowan isn't a bad cat, he's your typic-" She was cut off by Quailpad swiping the earth with his claws, he was obviously not in the mood for her 'excuses' as he would call them. It had only been a day with Rowan in camp, it shouldn't be causing so much trouble with them.
"Do not give me that speech, you know what loners and rogues are like. How that tale goes in one ear of yours and out the other is beyond me. You are the whole reason this clan has to suffer with him tainting our walls and you further the worry among the clan by being his friend. He's not your friend, Softchirp. He will never be your friend. He is not a clan cat, will never be. In a few sunrises he will be gone. Forming a bond with him will bring you nothing but pain in the long run and further destroy any relationship you will have with the clan." His words may be true but she didn't want to hear it. She felt embarrassment still washing over her, this over-reaction was very typical of Quailpad and Gingerstar. The clan wasn't going to go up in flames from sparing a bit of kindness in their hearts for someone beyond their borders, she was treating Rowan like she would any cat. But that's wrong in their eyes, you should only share a familiar relationship with those you are raised beside. Finally she pushed herself from her paws and met Quailpad, muzzle to muzzle.
"Don't tell me what I need to do or not do. I am a full grown warrior, my choices are that of my own and no other cats. I will do what I see is best for the clan and if I have read him to be a threat then he will be treated as such. For the time being he has been nothing but kind and has answered all my questions about why he is here. I believe in my heart he holds no ill will to us so why don't you trust my judgement for once in your life? I am the kit of Gingerstar and Sandhawk, two of the greatest warriors our clan has seen. Do you not trust the judgement of someone who is a product of them?" Her words seemed to take the tom back, his muzzle leaving hers as he stared at her coldly. He was unreadable beyond this, the two having their own staring match now neither one willing to back down. Softchirp could feel a shakiness in her legs but she was tired. The clan had relied on past tales too long, neglecting the idea that it hadn't always been this way. Sure one bad cat came along but it shouldn't ruin it for the rest, one bad mouse didn't sour the whole bunch.
"Your judgement is clouded by your incessant need for there to be good in the world. You will wake up one day and realize-" She cut him off, turning around and running back to the clan's camp. She didn't need to hear this, she really didn't. It was the same speech given to her moons ago. You will realize that not everything is perfect in the world and not everything ends the way you want. She already knew this, she didn't need to be reminded of it constantly especially by someone who had their own faults. She didn't stop her running till she was back to the entrance of camp, slowing only so she wouldn't tumble down the incline. As she re-entered the walls she felt all eyes on her, probably wondering where Quailpad was. He would be back shortly after her she was sure of it and he would head straight to Gingerstar's den to relay what had gone down. She didn't care at this point, if the two wanted to sit on what ifs and possibilities that was their choice. She would suffer the consequences after Rowan left, it wasn't anything new and she would be able to relive those moons again. This time it'll be different though, I will be a better warrior. She entered the spare den after a few moments, laying in her nest now exhausted. She looked over to the brown tom inside with her before giving a short laugh.
"That was quiet the show, Rowan, warn me next time before you decide to start a war inside the clan." She joked, trying to ease any tension between them right now.

hecc thats intense ;.; quailpad like in a twisted way is trying to protect her from danger but hes just going about it in a heartless way
Rowan was doing a great job of brooding in his nest in the spare den when Softchirp, not particularly above the weather either, entered and addressed him. His attention shifted to her rather quickly, even as his mind lingered on the wave of threats that was now placed on his mind by Gingerstar.
A slight smile caught his face after she spoke a joke to him, though it was obvious that it lacked the life of some of their previous joking together. "Well, if I warned you of the war, how could I enjoy the performance?" He quietly mewed, not having the same humorous energy but still trying to connect with her joke and...back with her. After reckoning with her mother, despite it being a pretty short amount of time, Softchirp could tell what the warrior was up against. The judgement of the leader of Chasmclan left no room for mercy, and just after a minute with Gingerstar he looked at Softchirp with just a bit more empathy than he had already felt.

She gently gave him a nudge at that comment, still trying to get over what just happened. It wasn't out of character for them of course but it still left a sour taste in her mouth. A part of her had been hoping they would accept that rogues/loners weren't the worse possible thing for the clan to interact with. It, of course, proved itself the opposite. They would never get over their ideals it felt like and Softchirp would just have to accept this as fact. As she was lost in her thoughts on the matter, she remembered Quailpad had shoved Rowan.
"Hey, are you okay? Quailpad is a big cat and I just wanna make sure you didn't like land on your wound or anything." She whispered, the joking tone leaving her voice as she visibly deflated. "Also, I don't want you to judge clan cats based on that interaction, not all are bad. Some are even curious about you, not wary." She recalled Mistyglow and Coppersnow's questioning just earlier that day. They didn't seem the slightest bit upset at the thought of Rowan residing near them. Perhaps there were even more but they were scared to voice their opinion due to the backlash it would receive.
