Can you imagine, someone who is 8 (In Spiderleg's case) and 5 (In Whitewing's case) moons younger than you, someone who only had two moons of training, and most of that time, was spent with her running off, and not listening to her mentor, someone who snuck out of camp, to somewhere where she wasn't even invited, and causing a huge panic throughout the clan, and worrying the fur off of everyone, getting their warrior name first?
I'm really surprised they didn't get upset, like Dustpelt and Sandstorm did, when Graystripe and Firestar, cats who have been training a few moons less than them, got their warrior names first.

To be fair, cats like Firestar and Graystripe and Squirrelflight all got their warrior names for doing something impressive.

True, but I'm still surprised Spiderleg and Whitewing weren't more upset about it. Especially when, a lot of the time, the standard is that they become an apprentice at 6 moons old, and then get 6 moons of training, however, circumstances can change this, like being made a warrior early, or failing assessments... has anyone ever failed an assessment? Besides Bristlefrost, and that wasn't even her fault. Anyway, from the regular standard, Spiderleg, Shrewpaw, and Whitewing should have already been warriors when the second arc began. If Squirrelflight was 8 moons old at the start, that would have made Whitewing 13 moons old, and Spiderleg and Shrewpaw 16 moons old.

Well, let's see. Dustpelt and and Sandstorm were both kind of. how do I put this nicely. jerks when they were young. They were plainly spiteful toward Firepaw/heart for the first few books, so their ire at his and Graystripe's early warriors appointment makes sense.
Whitewing and Spiderleg, by contrast, had no particular reason to dislike/spite Squirrel that I recall. Maybe a little annoyance would be warranted, but Squirrelflight did prove herself and mature rather well, I think, over the course of the second arc. It's understood that her role in the initial quest and the move to the lake would be an act worthy of warrior appointment, even if she wasn't part of the prophecy itself.
Besides that, Whitewing seems like a pretty kind/mild-mannered cat, and Spiderleg doesn't seem like he was too bad either (don't quote me on that- been a while since I've read the second arc.)
I think with Dustpelt and Sandstorm's ire toward Graystripe and Fireheart there were more personal factors at play. But Whitewing, Spiderleg, and Squirrelflight, as far as I can recall, didn't have any particular blights on their relationships. I feel like I remember them being on decently friendly terms with all their contemporaries and such.

If I recall, Whitewing actually delayed getting her warrior name because she didn’t want Birchpaw to be by himself on his warrior ceremony and she didn’t want him to be the only apprentice, since both his littermates died. They became warriors together.

Whitewing delayed her warrior ceremony for Birchfall, and Spiderleg wasn't shown to be mad that Squirrelflight got her warrior name before him. Though she wasn't invited on the journey, it did her some good. She definitely was a brat at first, but she matured. She earned her warrior name. (Not saying the other two didn't. They earned their warrior names at their own time.)

True Whitewing's case is kind of weird, since she should have been a warrior before Birchfall was even born, but Firestar's Quest probably messed up the time-line, and maybe they were initially meant to be younger?

They're not particularly major characters so I'm not that surprised, judging from how the authors make no attempt to include background characters in the series whatsoever.

Yeah, it kind of sucks, like in TBC Spotfur and Stemleaf aren't main characters, but they do still play a major role in the series, and their littermates haven't been mentioned ONCE, Shellfur hasn't even had a SINGLE appearance yet in the current arc.

Firestar's Quest was written after Midnight, so I think you are right that Whitewing was intended to be younger. That's probably how I thought of her age while I first read Midnight. As for Spiderleg, I thought he and Shrewpaw were always older. Whitewing's age is yet another inconsistency the Erins have.

Nothing beats the inconsistencies in Yellowfang's Secret though. It's still my favorite SE, but WOW.

I can't even remember the last time I read that one. lol I'm assuming there were a lot of inconsistencies in it? Omg yesss First of all, Shrewclaw is back from the dead, and an apprentice again, and his father Redclaw is his mentor now, instead of Hareflight. I guess they revived him, and Heatherstar was like, "You were bad, so you're an apprentice again." and Hareflight was like, "Ohh nooo, I can't handle mentoring him again! My hair is already turning grey from the first time around!" So, they decided to give him to Redclaw instead. And Hawkheart was like, "You know, I think his brother Barkface, I mean, Barkpaw should be an apprentice again too, there is still a lot he needs to learn." So Barkface was also made an apprentice again. Also, for some reason, Mudfur, who became a medicine cat while he was a senior warrior, is suddenly an apprentice again, a medicine cat apprentice, I guess Leopardstar doesn't exist in the Yellowfang time-line. Cinderfur, who was an elder (I think?) in the first series, is Clawface's son, also, Nightstar is pretty young, but it's understandable why he got sent to the elder's den early..but it doesn't explain Cinderfur. There's probably other inconsistencies too

He tried doing it to Owlwhisker, but Owlwhisker managed to get the upper paw, and they both ended up dying, and everyone just assumed it was because of The Dark Forest battle. Tornear is actually the most evil cat in WindClan, and he was helping Darktail out, because Onestar is also his real father!

You can't use Shrewclaw error because Yellowfang's Secret was publish 1 year before Tallstar's Revenge, so Shrewclaw age and mentor is check out because the authors hasn't plan Tallstar's story yet.
However there are plenty other to get mad about in THAT book.
