These are just my opinions on the warrior code, because I do agree with most of it. Feel free to discuss.
1. Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle.
Obviously your loyalty should be with your Clan. Friendships are okay, but at the end of the day, your Clan is your Clan. What's the point of Clans if cats can be loyal to whoever they want? Unless they want to abolish Clans, they must understand that there are five Clans, and they must pledge loyalty to one.
2. Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory.
No point in Clans or boundaries if this is allowed. Your territory is your territory.
3. Elders, queens, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders. If any warrior or apprentice is sick or injured, they may eat while the elders, queens, and kits are eating.
Elders have served their Clan for a long time, queens need the food for energy, and kits are young and need nourishment. Apprentices and warriors can afford to not eat as much, although that doesn't mean they should starve.
4. Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.
It's food, not a toy. Eat it, don't play with it.
5. A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.
Age can be debated, but it's a given that you should not send literal kits into battle. Look how well that happened with Brokenstar.
6. Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.
I can see where this is coming from, so they can reflect on what being a warrior means, but who knows if they'll actually do that.
7. A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.
Experience, but I mean, some cats are just naturally adept at deputying. Though I think it's a good precedent, to test that they know what they're doing.
8. The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies, retires, or is exiled.
An obvious choice, as they have some experience, though deputies and leaders have different duties. A cat who is a good deputy may not be a good leader. Though it's natural for the position to fall upon the deputy.
9. After the death, retirement, promotion (to a leader status), or exile of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.
Good idea, in case both die before anyone receives their nine lives, but this could cause a hasty decision, and result in a bad deputy. Still, good precedent.
10. A Gathering of all four Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among Clans at this time.
I think it goes without saying that you should have a time of peace so you can have friendly chats. Plus, there really should be no fighting when sharing news.
11. Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.
Boundaries exist for a reasonnnnnnnnnn.
12. No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from a different Clan.
A kit is innocent, and does not deserve to suffer because it's not from your Clan or from a Clan.
13. The word of the Clan leader is the warrior code.
This is the one I'm iffy on: if the leader is good, and is known to make good decisions, then trust them. After all, they are the one making the decisions and leading the Clan. They have the final say; of course they should listen to their Clanmates, but it's still their say. However, this can be easily abused by bad/cruel leaders, so I think it needs some rewording. The Clan leader's word is not the end all be all on the warrior code.
14. An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win their battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or if it is necessary for self-defense.
I would say no aiming to kill for any cats, unless they are truly a threat to Clan life. Doesn't matter if they're outside the warrior code (assuming this refers to rogues/loners/kittypets), they still have a life. Aiming to kill when it's not necessary is morally wrong. Although, if it is in self defense (and you're not aiming to kill) it's okay.
15. A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet.
Obviously these are two different ways of life, so it would be hard to have both at once. Daylight warriors existed, at least before SkyClan came to the camp. They can't have it anymore, due to how hard it would be to coordinate this whole thing. I personally think this should stay, as kittypets and warriors lead very different lives. They should't scorn it, but it would be hard to be both at once in this current setup.
16. Each Clan has the right to be proud and independent, but in times of trouble they must forget their boundaries and fight side by side to protect the four. Each Clan must help the others so that no Clan will fall
Band together if needed, but don't do it if it's unnecessary/the Clan can face said threat on their own. They also need to remember that they are still five separate Clans at the end of the day, so. Unless they want to combine into one. Which sounds like a nightmare, imo.
sorry for the wall, let me know what you think!
