I remember hearing about this infectious disease weeks before it became a global pandemic. I was sick and they couldn't figure out what it was (was not COVID19, don't worry) and my friend made a joke about it. None of us realized that it would soon cause a global panic. This is honestly kinda crazy and I never expected to live through something like this and I'm trying to stay as updated as possible. So I thought I would make this thread and maybe we can all just chat here about what we know with regards to how states are handling this, what the president has announced/declared...ya'know, just help keep each other updated? I don't know about you, but discussing stressful situations and knowing as much as i can about what is going on helps to calm me down. PLEASE, feel free to discuss other things as well like world news, the good and the bad, as well as just what you're doing during this self-isolation stuff, maybe recommend some shows or movies? Here's the link to the Live Coronavirus Update: www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/I cannot remember the rules regarding outside links so please notify me if I am breaking forum rules.

I remember being frustrated back in early February because some girls in my class were convinced they were going to get coronavirus (which is what it was called then). This was back when there was only one case in the US. I told them there's no way they were going to get it, it was just going to be another Ebola where everyone panics but the overall numbers were very small, and it was better than Ebola because if you get Corona, it's just a cold, whereas Ebola kills near everyone it touches. They didn't believe me.
Guess who looks like the asshole now?
The US went into National Emergency around a week ago, I believe? My state has been in State of Emergency for ages, I started my Covid thread the day after it was declared. As you can read in that first post, I'm not exactly a fan. (Though now I feel it's significantly more necessary than it was then).

Right now, our state (which is one of the Southeastern states) is in a national emergency, and everyone who doesn't have a necessary job (medical, EMS, police, certain types of manufacturing, etc.) have been asked to quarantine until further notice. Restaurants cannot be dine-in, only takeout and drive through, and gatherings of more than 10 people (unless work) is banned.
Yesterday, I went grocery shopping at Sam's Club. I got there at 8, expecting them to be open because they normally open at 7, but ended up waiting in line for an hour until 9, where they let 20 people in at a time. Food was already running low first thing in the morning.
My job has us on small amounts of constant overtime right now, because I work in food packaging and making medical supplies, and we desperately need both.
Schools have been shut down, state wide.
The president has decided to send every taxpayer two separate lump sums, one in April, and one in May, as stimulus packages, because the economy is starting to tumble with no one going to work and no one buying anything because they're quarantined af.
It's getting rough, my man, and genuinely I'm more scared of how people are acting around here than I am about catching COVID-19.
