Rowanblaze ;; Hollow Tree Trunk ;; Pansy ;; Sand ;;
Hoot, huh? We'll have to talk to him sometime, Rowanblaze noted mentally. He didn't think that the rogue would have anything to do with the murder but perhaps he'd seen something suspicious when he had gone a separate way from Pansy. The sudden change in subject intrigued Rowanblaze but he didn't press the subject anymore - clearly Pansy had other things on her mind and out of respect for her, Rowanblaze obliged. He thought carefully for a moment, still trudging through the damp undergrowth, before he let out a small sigh. "I know the area is going to be hard to see again..." he remembered in horrific flashes the lifeless expressionless he'd seen on Ashtail's face the day he died, "but I have too. I can't stand around, if there's any chance of finding clues that's the best place to look." Glancing to Pansy, he felt comforted by her willingness to help and to offer her opinions.
"There are a few ginger cats in my clan, I haven't noticed if anyone was missing any tufts of fur though." He meowed thoughtfully, thinking of his brother Fireskip and another clanmate Foxstep. They both had darker fur than he did and the tufts between Ashtail's claws had been lighter than either of them - a colour more like Rowanblaze. Maybe it was another rogue? He mused. Or maybe it wasn't related to the murder at all? What is Ashtail had a secret he didn't tell anyone? All the thoughts circulated in his mind but Rowanblaze couldn't be sure of anything. "If we can see more of the fur maybe it has a scent, or maybe we could check it's not the same as mine." He suggested, given the rain the scent might had worn off, but it would be better to have a closer look at the tufts. Thornstrike had been the one to discover it and in that moment his gaze had darkened with hatred, Rowanblaze was so upset he hadn't the mental capacity to check for himself.
Nearing the border he felt himself tense, his tail flicked anxiously behind and he almost slipped on a slimy leaf. "S-sorry," he meowed sheepishly when he straightened up again. Being nearer the border sent echoes of his yowling clanmates into his ears reminding him that he was no longer welcome there. "We'll have to be extra careful now." He warned. The idea of any harm coming to the innocent rogue made Rowanblaze flex his claws into the muddy earth - would I harm a clanmate if they found me? It was a conflicting thought, and when he looked to Pansy, he mused, I would have to protect her at all cost.
The border markers were fresh. Rowanblaze recognized scents Twitchwhisker, Brindlespots, and Mousepaw yet when he perked his ears he couldn't hear any footsteps in the undergrowth. "I think the area is clear," he whispered.
Sootwhisker ;; EagleClan Stream ;; Sapphireheart ;; brambleflight ;;
Fearfully, Sootwhisker bristled as Bristlestorm snarled at him and the black and white tom unsheathed his claws in preparation for a potential fight. Thinking back, he tried to remember all the battle moves that his mentor had taught him as an apprentice. Amberleaps words made him freeze for a heartbeat before he turned his head back to Sapphireheart, a look of desperation flashed across his gaze. Her statement made him relax somewhat, only because it meant he wouldn't have to fight anyone right than. What in StarClan am I going to tell Maplecloud?! He thought frantically. Outwardly, he merely nodded silently, catching her gaze for a mere second. Regret and fear oozed from every hair on his pelt as the EagleClan warriors surrounded him and urged him forward. He felt like a clumsy kit as he placed his paws forward and moved down the rocky terrain. "I'm sure Maplecloud will help sort it all out," he murmured in reply to Sapphireheart unsure if she even heard.
Every moment spent moving away from the chickweed and going further into EagleClan territory tore at Sootwhisker's heart. Cloudgaze needs those herbs right now! He'll die without them! How could he explain that to the warriors surrounding him without appearing like a weak thief? Their snarls and scraping claws spoke loud and clear that they were not in any mood to talk. All the medicine cat could do was hang his head and follow, occasionally being nudged unnecessarily forward by someone around him, making him stumble but never fall.
He could sense they were nearing the camp when the scent of more cats hit his nostrils and the familiar sounds of a buzzing clan echoed off the mountainous walls. Gulping thickly, he looked back up. He'd never seen the EagleClan camp before, so as they entered, his jaws gaped in fascination. This is no time to explore like an adventurous kit! He thought harshly. Gazes filled with anger, curiosity, and hatred alike stared so intensely that he was amazed his pelt didn't sear off his body. Remaining silent still, he stopped moving his paws when the patrol surrounding him came to a stop. Here we go...

He listened intently to her words before nodding himself, her dreams only made his belief they were something more stronger. "Mine are somewhat similar...though they differ in the beginning. I'm in a dark forest, running, I have no clue why I'm running but I'm always running at first. Then it just...I suddenly stop, as though I'm catching my footing or something more." He paused, making a small clicking noise as he tried to recall more. "Then a strange tom comes out...he tells me something about these clans...uniting them...after he's finished his speech the air erupts with yowls of cats fighting." His ears sank as his heart did. The noises of fighting felt as though they would never leave his mind, haunting him during even his waking hours. "It always seems so urgent, like I need to do something as soon as my paws are in the real world." He ventured his gaze out towards the dens beyond, could there be more cats? Do I even have time to consider the thoughts of others? Surely so, the cat speaks of uniting...if Sumi is sharing similar dreams then it must mean uniting others right?
"Sumi...I feel as though we need to do something but I'm not sure what."

Sapphireheart - EagleClan Camp - w/ aether 's Sootwhisker Sapphireheart glanced over at Sootwhisker, catching his quiet words. All the deputy could offer was a curt nod in response and she began to lead the way back into the EagleClan camp. Slipping in through the entrance, she paused as her clanmates quickly locked their less than friendly gazes onto the rival clan's medicine cat. Ignoring them, the deputy stepped with purpose as she walked towards the medicine cat den. Once Maplecloud cleared the air, the warriors would have no reason to target the medicine cat and Sootwhisker could peacefully return to his clan.
Perhaps that plan would have worked too if the whispers and gossip that stirred in the clan hadn't caused for Alderstar to waltz out of his den. The large tom almost immediately narrowed his eyes onto the medicine cat, a light spark seemed to glow in his yellow eyes. He stepped fast to cut off his deputy from reaching Maplecloud, who had also exited his own den, looking curious as to what was causing such commotion in their camp. "Sapphireheart, what is going on here?" Alderstar asked. His voice dripped with excitement rather than accusation. The leader was clearly pleased about Sootwhisker's appearance in their camp, which made the deputy all the more on edge.
"The patrol happened across Sootwhisker in our territory. He claims that it was for medicine cat reasons that Maplecloud is aware of. I was merely going to confirm the story with Maplecloud before we escort him back to the border." Sapphireheart explained slowly, trying to carefully insinuate that Sootwhisker would be peacefully let go. Unfortunately, her words mattered very little to the leader who had struck up a plan at the very sight of the medicine cat.
Alderstar smirked and waved his tail dismissively. "Well you don't need to worry about that anymore." he meowed and brushed passed his deputy to approach the medicine cat. The leader's gaze narrowed threateningly on the black and white tom. "A trespasser is a trespasser. I don't need my medicine cat to tell me that much... However, you're quite the special trespasser, Sootwhisker. I wonder how much territory ValleyClan would give us in exchange for you being returned safely?" Alderstar mused with cold casualness. He raised a questioning eyebrow at the medicine cat and his lips pulled further back in a toothy smirk. "I'd reckon quite a bit, wouldn't you?"

Pansy - accompanied by Rowanblaze - - thunderclan border - [aether ] Pansy trudged besides Rowanblaze, listening to him as he spoke about going back to the place where Ashtail died. She didn't have an emotional connection to Ashtail or ThunderClan like he did, but the place held trauma from the attack she had witnessed. "If you're sure," she meowed, tapping his shoulder with her tail. "I'll be there for you, in case anything goes wrong. Hopefully we can find something-- anything would help at this point." She too felt comfort by Rowanblaze himself along with his encouragement. If he hadn't helped her before with her childish outbreak, they probably would not have made it this far. "I wonder if there's a way we can find out who's missing fur," the black and white she-cat mused aloud. "But I think it's best that we look for some at the scene and then you can check the scent. I don't know much about your clanmate's scents besides that they stink." The rogue gave a small playful mrrow of amusement. She didn't know anything about Ashtail or the other cats of ThunderClan, so she knew she wouldn't be of help there. Maybe if she could have a look at the murderer again, she'd be able to offer more information. She was hoping that things would go smoothly and that they wouldn't run into any trouble. The easier and faster they could find the culprit, the better they were off. Pansy's nose crinkled at the scent that filled the air when they neared the border. The stench was strong and potent to her, but it seemed that Rowanblaze didn't mind one bit of it. I guess that's how it works when you're a clan cat, she thought, coming to a halt when the ginger tom almost slipped. "It's okay," she told him with a soft smile. She nodded at his warning and unsheathed her claws. She needed a better grip on the muddy ground as she knew her soft paws weren't made for the sodden land. The rogue hadn't even thought about them having to fight other cats. It wasn't something that crossed her mind at the time, if at all. Her stomach churned in circles at the scent and the memories that began to fill her conscience. She took a deep breath before closing her copper eyes and reopening them. The rogue peered past the border, looking for any signs of ThunderClan cats. "Looks clear to me," she whispered back, lifting a paw to cross the border mark. "I'll cross first, in case anyone's hanging around. It will give you time to get away in case they show up."The black and white she-cat stepped over the marker delicately before flicking her tail at Rowanblaze, letting him know that it was okay to pass through. Sumi ;; Twolegplace ;; Lucky ;; ☾ѕησσzє☽ ;;
Reliving her dream, Sumi shivered - a subtle shiver that danced down her spine and left her paws feeling restless. The dream definitely meant something, but what? She hadn't the slightest idea what it could mean, but the sense of urgency it gave her would make up for something - right? Tipping head head thoughtfully, she stared intently at Lucky. "I think it has to mean something too. It feels different, not just like a dream but like-like... someone is trying to tell us something." Her golden eyes widened like moons and she stepped closer to Lucky excitedly, "What if it means some sort of adventure?! I don't like swimming, but what if we need to find water?" Her voice spilled out in an eager tumble. "Or a forest? Like in your dream?" Her ears flicked and she glanced over the fence. I wonder if Snowy or Hamish have had any similar dreams? She mused. So many thoughts were flicking in her mind, one moment she pondered about her friends, the next she was considering what potential ties she and Lucky had to make them have such dreams. Or what if it is all a big coincidence? Maybe I had some funky tuna or dozed too long in the sun... It was not impossible that her mind was playing tricks on her when she was so well-known for her rumbustious imagination.
Sootwhisker ;; EagleClan Camp;; Sapphireheart , Alderstar ;; brambleflight ;;
The sound of Alderstar's rumbling, stern voice caused Sootwhisker's heart to sink even further - if that were even possible. He may as well have been dragging his paws along the stone, avoiding the eyes of any warrior around him as they gave him such nasty stares. Theirs gossiping whispers filled his ears like bees; he closed his eyes and took a steadying breath. It will not be easy to get out of this situation. Not even when he was a medicine cat. He shuffled his paws under Alderstar's overly-excited gaze, dread filled the black and white tom as he realized what exactly Alderstar was thinking: this was the perfect opportunity. Appreciative of Sapphireheart's concise depiction of the situation, Sootwhisker gave a small nod. Her mention of escorting him back to border gave him a glimmer of hope, only for it to be shadowed by Alderstar's determined tone. Watching Alderstar approach, it took all of Sootwhisker's willpower to not slink backwards like a kit being disciplined by it's mother. He and Alderstar did not differ much in size however Alderstar oozed ambition and power with every movement; he was unreadable, and that scared Sootwhisker the most.
"I don't think it would be wise to start asking for a fight," Sootwhisker rose his chin to talk, praying to StarClan that his voice didn't waver. His tail twitched nervously behind him as he added, "I doubt StarClan would be very pleased that you would take advantage of a medicine cat like that." Those words came out more passionately as the tom truly believed that sentiment. What would StarClan think if a war was started for this reason? Regret hit him like a boulder: a war starting because he had entered EagleClan territory.
"I would advise that you let me speak with Maplecloud and then let me be on my way. If you do so, I won't speak any ill of you." There was a slim chance that the leader would agree to such terms, Sootwhisker could tell by the cold ambition in his stare, but it was worth a try. What else could he do? He couldn't fight with these cats, nor could he outrun them on their own territory. He also didn't want to sit around and let a war happen because of an idiotic decision. Glancing to Sapphireheart, his gaze was filled with a plea for help. Please! I can't stay here! He wanted to mew like a kit.
Blaze ;; Border;; Pansy ;; Sand ;;
Rowanblaze shot Pansy an amusement glare when she playfully commented on the clan cat 'stink'. In response, he turned his head upwards and gave her a bump with his shoulder to hers, only lightly so not to knock her off track. Her continued quirkiness was refreshing, the tom mused, and it really made him think highly of her already despite only have knowing her for a short time. A clan could really use a cat like her, he thought fleetingly.
He considered telling Pansy that he would like to march in first, but he hesitated. If the clancats saw Pansy they would be likely to chase her own, but if they saw him than they would be more inclined to attack him. He nodded his head and crouched down, every muscle in his body tense as he watched her lithe shape move forward into the undergrowth. Please StarClan, don't let anything happen to her! He begged. His ears were perked and alert, swiveling at every little sound: the breeze, a cricket, a twig falling, a bird call... He edged forward so he could watch Pansy through the fronds of a fern, his clear yellow gaze narrowed seriously. At her gesture, he slid forward along the ground, maintaining his silent crouch as through he were stalking a rabbit. Crossing the border ignited a strange serious of emotions in his chest. Fear for what could happen, regret for what did happen, hope for the future, and an itching restlessness and yearning to gaze into the future and see the outcome. Peering at Pansy, he took a breath; now was not the time to get ahead of himself.
A small clearing between trees and brambles was where Rowanblaze had stumbled across Ashtail's lifeless body. There were many places for a cat to hide so it seemed likely that Pansy would have been a witness who went unnoticed, especially if the murderer had been caught up in their own senses and thoughts. Rowanblaze maintained his crouch to the clearing and pushed past a prickly bramble, closing his eyes against the bristles until he pushed through to the clearing.
It was serene. Now that the rain had eased, sunlight was filtering through the leaves above, sending cascades of warmth to the earth. The center where Ashtail had lain was bare, except for sprouts of grasses and tree roots that weaved in and out of the soil. The gentle sound of fluttering leaves filled the silence, and the scent of prey was on the breeze. Had Ashtail not been murdered there it would be picture-perfect. Giving one last cautious sniff of the breeze, Rowanblaze straightened up. It seemed like the patrol had moved off now and they didn't need to be silent, but his voice caught in his throat emotionally. Flashes of memories ran riot in his brain - the blood that coated Ashtail, his jaws opened in a silent scream, his eyes staring but unseeing. Rowanblaze looked to Pansy with a deep sadness reflecting his gaze and he took a moment to find comfort in her presence. You're not alone this time, Rowanblaze.
"Pansy... do you remember the cat who-" he hesitated, glancing away uncomfortably, "-well, y'know? The cat who was there with Ashtail? What did they look like?" It would be helpful to know if Rowanblaze might recognize the other cats description. As he waited for her reply, he started forward - moving to the center of the clearing where Ashtail had laid.

Sapphireheart - EagleClan Camp - w/ aether 's Sootwhisker Sapphireheart couldn't help but bristle with alarm at her own leader's word. Alderstar was battle-hungry but his suggestion took it a step further with involving a medicine cat. Her green eyes flickered worriedly over to Sootwhisker, finding herself not only concerned for the safety of her clan but for his own safety as well. As he tried to talk Alderstar down from his aggressive decision, the deputy noticed his pleading gaze and quickly jumped in. "Alderstar, perhaps you should just let him speak with Maplecloud. Medicine cats have a connection to StarClan and I wouldn't want to risk their wrath over what is likely a misunderstanding." She meowed tentatively, looking at her leader with concern.
"Medicine cats are not above our laws." Alderstar spat. "ValleyClan can't be trusted. Our ancestors know this and expect us to act accordingly. He crossed our border so now we must act!" The leader raised his voice as he spoke, encouraging the eavesdropping warriors nearby to give murmurs of approval. Though foul tempered, there was one thing the leader was good at and that was garnering support. A few EagleClan cats remained silently watching with a grave expression in their gazes though. Sapphireheart bore a similar expression, like them knowing that Alderstar was on the verge of starting a full on war with ValleyClan.
"But is keeping him as a bargaining chip really the best option?" Sapphireheart muttered to her leader, once again trying to be a voice of reason but also trying not to undermine him in front of the whole clan. "Alderstar, this will start a war with ValleyClan if we hold their medicine cat here." Her words caused the large tom to turn momentarily away from Sootwhisker. His yellow gaze seemed slightly annoyed by her pestering and he lashed his tail in an order for silence from her. "War with ValleyClan was coming one way or another." he growled lowly with cold ambition. "In fact, Sootwhisker might be our chance to avoid it. Provided they agree to my terms of trade."
Sapphireheart frowned. "And if they insist on fighting?" she asked.
Alderstar shrugged his shoulders with unnerving carelessness. His ambition had enveloped him. "Then we fight... ValleyClan will crumble without their healer and we will arise victorious either way." he explained with unwavering confidence. Turning away from his deputy and to the medicine cat, he raised his voice to address his clan. There was no sense in calling for a meeting. Between the gossip and whispers, most of the clan had already gathered on the sidelines to watch the scene play out. "Until a deal or war is settled with ValleyClan, you, Sootwhisker, for trespassing on EagleClan territory, will remain here as our prisoner." He declared for all the clan to hear.

Pansy - accompanied by Rowanblaze - - border -> clearing - [aether ] Pansy let out a playful snort when Rowanblaze bumped her shoulders with his. Though she had only knew the tom for a short amount of time, it felt longer than that. Their companionship felt right to her, as if he was a friend she was meant to have forever. It didn't feel temporary. What will I do if ThunderClan takes him back? she wondered, feeling a pang of sorrow. She knew that didn't matter right now, though it was a lingering thought in her subconscious. She wasn't all that concerned as she passed over the clan's border. The forest seemed all the same to the bi-colored feline except for the fact ThunderClan's strong stench remained. She began to pay no attention to it as she waited for the ginger tom to cross. She could only imagine the mix of emotions that he felt and she hoped he would be okay, even if it was agonizing. She glanced back at him and continued slithering through the undergrowth, her ears slightly flicking at the sound of wildlife. At least we're safe for now, she thought, doing her best to stay positive. It wasn't worth fretting over little things when they had something important to figure out. Once Rowanblaze made his way past the bramble bush, the rogue made sure to follow his steps. She was trying to be as wary as possible, but it was difficult to keep that in mind as they entered the clearing. It was stunning and almost tranquil, but the flashbacks of Ashtail's death brewed in her mind. The bloodshed, fur, claws... every bit of it was haunting her by each heartbeat. As much as she loathed it and wanted to run for the border, Pansy knew she couldn't. She was here to help Rowanblaze and Ashtail which meant it wasn't the time to wimp out. It felt like a pair of pained, dazed eyes were watching them though she knew better than that. No one was here but her and Rowanblaze. Her copper gaze met his as she did her best to offer comfort through them. She pressed her shoulder against his gently without saying a word. The black and white she-cat stepped into the clearing, hanging near the edges of it. She wasn't sure where to look first, but thankfully, the warrior had a question for her. She felt uneasy even though Pansy knew what the cat looked like. She wasn't certain of her own memory, though she knew Rowanblaze needed the truth, not a questionable description. "I remember seeing two grey cats," the rogue meowed, closing her eyes. They opened slowly as if she were trying to take in the scene again. "One was larger than the other, more muscular and strong. They had darker grey fur compared to Ashtail. It was like an ambush, I don't think Ashtail expected the cat to attack him."image credited to Pixabay - (CC0 license)

Sootwhisker ;; EagleClan Camp;; Sapphireheart , Alderstar ;; brambleflight ;;
Sootwhisker felt great respect for Sapphireheart as she tried slyly to change Alderstar's mind on the whole situation. Obviously the deputy didn't want to start a war just as much as he didn't want to be the cause of it. Alas, there was not a moment of victory at the end of the conversation. When Alderstar's cold stare turned to Sootwhisker and he uttered the final statement, there was naught that Sootwhisker could do. There was no point begging for a change in situation, all he could do was lower his gaze to his paws and wish he could disappear on the breeze.
"I don't have a choice." He murmured his defeat to the leader before him. He chided himself mentally, cursing his idiotic actions, yet he was so conflicted. He came here to get chickweed for Cloudgaze because there was nothing in the territory that he could offer, but the consequences far outweighed the risk. He should have just tried to look harder in his territory or even try to medicate with what herbs he did have in the territory because now feared that Cloudgaze wouldn't be there when - or if - he returned to camp. The sun was high in the sky, hiding behind a few white clouds; soon his clanmates would wonder where he was. Would they suspect he was taken by EagleClan warriors?
"Let's get this over with," he muttered under his breath, looking more than just defeated. His slumped shoulders and drooping tail were evidence of his broken heart. He followed his escorts to the place where he would be kept prisoner - a small nook at the edge of the camp. By the scents around him, he figured he was near the medicine cats den - the wafting scents of freshly picked leaves hit his mouth and it was the only comfort he could find. He laid down stiffly on the hard surface with his chin resting somberly on his paws. His minty eyes strayed around the camp, watching as warriors whispered excitedly among themselves, as kits rolled about outside the nursery, and at apprentices who were play-fighting. He could hear them hissing about fighting ValleyClan cats and his stomach sank. "What have I done..." He whispered painfully.
Rowanblaze ;; Border;; Pansy ;; Sand ;;
The comforting gesture of her shoulder against his made Rowanblaze feel as though he had more strength than he did before. It was like a jolt from her shoulder to his and it ran up and down his spine, giving him a surge of willpower. He was grateful for the energy as it spurred his paws forward in what was an emotionally difficult time. He could see by the flashes of pain in her eyes that she too was affected by this place. It wouldn't be easy seeing someone be murdered... but now she's helping me more than she'll ever know. He blinked appreciatively at her before bending his head and sniffing the ground in the hopes of picking up a scent. His ears were swiveled towards Pansy as he listened to her descriptions.
An ambush? Who would want to ambush Ashtail? Was Ashtail waiting to talk to them, and that's why he was alone here? Rowanblaze lifted his chin, "If their fur that darker than Ashtail's I know there's a few cats in my clan who look like that. There's Greystorm or-" he hesitated, unsure if he wanted to say the name. A shadow of grief flashed in his eyes, "... Or Thornstrike."
What reason would Greystorm or Thornstrike have to murder an excellent deputy? Greystorm never hinted at any signs of aggression and Thornstrike was ambitious, Rowanblaze didn't want to imagine his friend murdering someone. And what if he got what he wanted? Would he hurt Hailstar, to be a leader? Shaking his head, Rowanblaze straightened himself. "Would it help if we saw them? If we sneaked through the forest so that you see them and check?" The hopeful pitch in his voice was him wishing that if Pansy saw either of the toms she would deny it was them. "It would definitely be dangerous but at least if you are sure it was no one in my clan we can look elsewhere." He added. He stepped forward, closer to the she-cat and tipped his head. "I would understand if you think it would be too dangerous, you're already risking a lot by helping me now so I don't want you to feel pressured into endangering yourself." Despite the desperate yearning he felt to get the answers now he was well aware that Pansy had no ties nor reason to put herself at risk. Everything she was doing was from the kindness of her heart.
They hadn't done an extensive search of the clearing yet but Rowanblaze's brief sniff have given him nothing but earth and prey-scent, even Ashtail's scent had been completely washed away. He'd been hopeful that something might have lingered, but going to the clan seemed like a promising lead.

The tom cat listened to his friend prattle on about what the dreams could mean, eagerness now settling in him. Even if it was some big coincedence that they shared such similarities he couldn't lie to himself about feeling excited about the prospect of leaving his cozy home life once more to find what may lay ahead. When she voiced a concern for water, he let out a small chuckle. "One thing at a time, Sumi, if there's water on our journey, if we choose to take one that is, then we will find a way across. It's not too scary, I'm not much of a swimmer myself but I can at least cross it." He paused for a moment, hopping onto the fence post. "We should go check on the other cats here though, if they share similar kinds of dreams then we must certainly search for answers." He didn't know if others would be willing to join them but they could at least find answers on if it meant more through the cats in the other dens. "Can you take me to the closest neighbor we have? I can ask the questions though if you wish."

Sapphireheart - EagleClan Camp - w/ aether 's Sootwhisker Sapphireheart watched helplessly as Alderstar announced Sootwhisker's captivity. She frowned slightly and looked over at the medicine cat with pity. The gray she-cat stood back by Alderstar as Oakfrost and Bristlestorm escorted Sootwhisker to where he would be kept and let out a troubled sigh. She shuffled her paws and looked over at Alderstar. There was little she could do now that the medicine cat was stuck at their camp. Although, perhaps she could try to make the less than ideal stay easier. "Alderstar, if we're keeping him here, we'll need to assign guards.. If you'll allow me, I can take most of the shifts and find others to cover me when needed." she offered with a hopeful tone.
The leader looked over at her, pausing before nodding his head in approval. "That would be good. We need eyes on him at all times." he muttered to his deputy. Alderstar's calculating gaze eyed the camp entrance. "How long ago do you think he crossed the border?" he asked curiously.
Sapphireheart tilted her head and gave a shrug. "I'm not sure. We found him on the way... I'd wager not very long... Why?" she asked raising an eyebrow at her leader. Alderstar smirked, seeming pleased with her reply. "Well, I imagine ValleyClan will be wondering where their medicine cat went to pretty soon. I'd like to be there waiting for them at the border to let them know about the situation." Eager as ever to target the rival clan, it seemed Alderstar didn't want to waste any time in trying to use Sootwhisker as both a bargaining chip as well as pushing forward his plan of war. Unfortunately, there wasn't much the deputy could say against it either. Whether he fast tracked it or not, the leader had made up his mind and war was on its way. Maybe if he alerts them now, they'll be able to get Sootwhisker out of here sooner though.. She thought with a small ounce of hope.
"I see. I can stay in camp with the prisoner if you wish to leave with the patrol." she meowed. Alderstar nodded his head and shifted his gaze over to Oakfrost and Bristlestorm. "Yes, that sounds good. Get Oakfrost and Bristlestorm, tell them the patrol will be leaving soon." He announced before stepping off to regather Amberleap and Hollowhowl.
Sapphireheart nodded her head compliantly and padded over to where Sootwhisker was being held. She pointedly avoided looking at the medicine cat at first, instead focusing on the two warriors guarding him. "Oakfrost, Bristlestorm Alderstar wants you to finish the border patrol with him. I'll take over here." she instructed with a nod to where the leader was waiting by the camp entrance. Oakfrost blinked, seeming mildly surprised by how quick their leader was to act while Bristlestorm simply nodded his head and eagerly moved to join his leader. Sapphireheart watched the two warriors bound off before moving to take a seat by Sootwhisker.
Finally the she-cat gaze drifted over to him. A pang of guilt and sympathy hit the deputy as she noticed how crestfallen the medicine cat was at this development. Sapphireheart turned her head away from him, appearing to survey the camp when really the motion was meant to hide the shame she felt for what had transpired. EagleClan's safety was her top concern but she also found herself also feeling terrible for putting him in such a position. It was strange but she realized her care for the medicine cat was much stronger than she previously thought. "I'm sorry, Sootwhisker. I had no idea Alderstar would pull something like this.." she mumbled softly.

Pansy - accompanied by Rowanblaze - - clearing - [aether ] After giving her descriptions of the cat she saw, Pansy began to sniff around the clearing. All of the scents were strange to her, at least the ones that the rain hadn't washed away. It was disappointing to know that what they were looking for was no longer around, at least to what she could tell. She was glad for Rowanblaze's appreciation and support which she returned the favor to, with a blink of her copper eyes after smelling the forest floor. There wasn't anything familiar from the murder, though she was hopeful he found something. Her ears pricked up when he began speaking and the rogue came to a halt. She had no clue who Greystorm was, but she did remember Rowanblaze mentioning Thornstrike. His friend? she thought, puzzled by the idea that Thornstrike had anything to do with the murder. She didn't know the tom at all, but if it was him... what would his reason be? She couldn't help but ponder over the many reasons that filled her mind. "Do you think either of them had anything against Ashtail?" she asked, watching the grief flash in the ginger tom's eyes. It was painful to see and she wished she could do more about it. "Maybe there was a secret involved?" The black and white she-cat knew nothing of this Greystorm or Thornstrike, though she did know how power worked with rogues. It probably wasn't the same, but what if it was? What if one of the warriors killed Ashtail to gain power? She paused before hearing Rowanblaze's suggestion. It gave her hope yet at the same time it instilled fear in Pansy. If they got caught, how would they handle it? She imagined she would be held prisoner or killed, but what would happen to Rowanblaze? Would they kill him too? The feline took a few moments to think before letting out a contemplative sigh. "I can do it," she told him, copper eyes shining with determination. At this point, she was willing to do anything for Rowanblaze. "I know it's dangerous, but we need to find out who killed Ashtail. If it eliminates your clanmates as suspects, then we can move on to the rogues." Pansy came to another pause before realizing something. How would they sneak through the forest successfully? "Rowanblaze, how will we find them without getting caught?" she inquired, tipping her head to one side. "There has to be a way to do it without them knowing we are in their territory. I don't want you getting caught either, it would be worse for you than for me. I can make do, but you... I don't want to know what they would try with you." image credited to Pixabay - (CC0 license)

Sumi ;; Twolegplace ;; Lucky ;; ☾ѕησσzє☽ ;;
Lucky's words quickly make the she-cat perk up again as though all of her concerns were no longer there. She was often quick to worry and quick to soothe - her blinding trust in others was both a blessing and a curse. She smiled sheepishly at the tom and watched as he moved atop the fence post. She followed suit, balancing elegantly along the fenceline. "Do you think other cats might be having the same thing?" She tipped her head. It would be strange if only she and Lucky were having strange dreams, perhaps talking to others would give them a better perspective on the situation. Besides, worst case scenario simply means that Lucky would be able to introduce himself to all the other local cats. "Okay, well... Harlow lives three nests from here, let's see her first!" Sumi gestured her tail in the direction of Harlow's nest before moving excitedly. It seemed like an adventure was about to transpire and although there was a lingering concern for what the dreams could truly mean, there was also a surge of exhilaration.
It wasn't long before she leaped down the fence and into a yard. It was smaller than most yards and filled with potted plats - more pots than grass. Harlow was sat on a lawn chair, grooming lazily at her thick brown tabby pelt under the sun. When Sumi approached, the she-cat rose her head curiously. "My, my, what's this?" She purred, her eyes narrowing on Lucky.
Sootwhisker ;; EagleClan Camp;; Sapphireheart , Alderstar ;; brambleflight ;;
Sootwhisker didn't take notice of the conversation between the blue-grey deputy and her scruffy tabby leader. His eyes were staring ahead, but they were glazed as though he wasn't actually taking notice of what he was watching. His thoughts were flooded with dreaded worries. What if Whitestar never finds me? What is Alderstar starts a war? What is Cloudgaze dies? I wish I never trespassed... but I really need to help Cloudgaze! Not that it matters now... After the events that transpired, Sootwhisker also felt shame. Not only had he made a huge mistake, but he'd also acted like a tiny, helpless kit in front of the EagleClan cats. He closed his eyes and sighed softly. Maybe I should just run away...
A familiar scent wafted into his nostrils and he blinked open a minty eye, watching as Sapphireheart approached. He didn't make a sound as she padded forward and took a seat beside him. He met her gaze and was aware now that she close to him... in all of his shame and guilt, he was reminded of her warmth and that gave him some comfort. She had been the only cat who tried to speak of peace and letting him go, she also stopped the patrol from tearing him apart when they'd initially found him. This information, followed by her gentle apology, made Sootwhisker feel as though she was unlike all the others. He could trust her, and could trust that her regretful gaze was honest.
"It's not your fault," he murmured back, his voice thick with emotion. "I shouldn't have been there... I-I just wanted to help my clan." He sighed softly and twitched his whiskers, "It was all a big mistake so I don't blame you at all." He couldn't say the same about Alderstar, who Sootwhisker detested for his ambitious selfishness at the situation. The medicine cat looked at Sapphireheart's emerald gaze and briefly - for no particular reason - he thought he could get lost in her eyes. It was a fleeting thought, because he had more to be concerned about at that time.
Rowanblaze ;; Border;; Pansy ;; Sand ;;
The idea of secrecy and plotting made Rowanblaze nervous. What other things could be going on within his clan that he or others didn't know about? If something was so serious that it would end in Ashtail's early death, what other possibilities were there? Suddenly his spiel earlier about how great his clan was felt as though it might be wrong. What else don't I know?
"We need to gather more information," was all he managed in reply. He didn't want to instantly assume his clan could be crawling with murderers, yet there was the gnawing feeling that nothing was as it seemed now. Please Thornstrike, don't let this have anything to do with you! He silently begged. He hated to think about his friend from his apprenticehood being so ambitious it would lead him to murder. Could Rowanblaze picture it? He always tried to be better than me, but I just thought he didn't want to be weaker because I am younger... This discovery was pivotal and could potentially lead to more information that Rowanblaze would struggle to bear. That is why he had to get to the bottom on this.
A breath he didn't realize he'd been holding escaped his maw when she agreed to help him. He stepped forward and lightly pressed his nose to her ear appreciatively - she had no idea how much her willingness to help meant to him. Her next statement mirrored his own thoughts and he nodded quickly, "Precisely, so... I can only hope you won't recognize any of my clanmates." His tone was wishful whilst simultaneously being flat with dread.
Her next question made him hesitate, his long whiskers flicking as he racked his brain for the best plan. "I know a path that borders along twolegplace. It's a border for ThunderClan and so long as we are careful to avoid patrols we won't technically be on the territory. We'll be able to cover the most ground that way before we have to enter the territory to get nearer... I know there are a lot of hiding places near the camp." He dug his claws into the softened earth anxiously, "We can get near enough to the camp that you can watch them and point out if you recognize any of the warriors. That way we'll have an answer." He stared at her copper eyes, thankful for the care and determination in their depths. She was no lonely rogue that he initially thought little of. Her willingness to help meant she was as great as any warrior.

Sapphireheart - EagleClan Camp - w/ aether 's Sootwhisher Sapphireheart looked down at her paws, shuffling them slightly as Sootwhisker offered words of reassurance that he didn't blame her. She found surprisingly relieved to hear that the medicine cat held no grudge towards her. In the back of her mind, she knew she shouldn't care what any ValleyClan cat thought of her but for some reason, his opinion of her did. Her dark green eyes blinked as she noticed Sootwhisker look up into them. Unsure why she felt like her ears were burning, she turned her gaze away to glance around the camp. Not wanting her thoughts to linger on the puzzling feeling, she focused back on the issues they now faced with him as EagleClan's prisoner.
"I'll try to talk some sense into Alderstar.. I'm not giving up just yet." she told him with a long sigh, knowing the task of changing her leader's mind would not be an easy one. The gray deputy feel quiet for moment, her gaze sweeping over her clanmates as they all gossiped about the new development. Most eyed Sootwhisker tensely. She didn't even have to speak with those cats to know what they were thinking. They think he's here to spy on us... she thought, slumping her shoulders slightly. Those that didn't appear hostile, were eying him with unrestrained interest. It was namely the younger cats who were speaking excitedly amongst themselves.
Growing tired of taking it all in, she turned her head to look back at Sootwhisker. "Hopefully your clan will figure out some way to get you out of here... I just hope it's with minor bloodshed." she meowed softly. Sapphireheart swept her soft gaze over the tom. "If there is anything you need, like food or water, just tell me. Alderstar may be keeping you prisoner but that doesn't mean we have to treat you poorly."

Pansy - accompanied by Rowanblaze - - clearing - [aether ] She had been too harsh with her words and blatant replies, but Pansy knew that Rowanblaze was close to his clan. After all, it was like one big, happy family. She hadn't experienced anything like that before though it was only fair she respect his lifestyle as he had with hers. However, she couldn't help but wonder what kind of secrets clan cats kept; were they so bad that the clan could fall apart? Were they just as nasty as some rogue bands were, willing to kill for anything? She hoped not for Rowanblaze's sake. With the ginger tom stating the obvious, the black and white she-cat knew he wasn't too comfortable right now. He was probably thinking of all the possibilities with Greystorm or Thornstrike. It made her think that she was a bit lucky to not know so many cats personally, but at the same time, she wasn't lucky. She gave the exiled warrior a nod before feeling his nose against her ear. The rogue let out a loud purr, pressing her nose against his ear gently. "I hope for you that I don't recognize them either," she mewed sincerely, hearing the dread in his voice. She really didn't want to recognized one of his clanmates as the murderer, but if she did... she longed that it wouldn't be too harsh on Rowanblaze. Pansy hadn't spent much time around the Twolegplace since she was younger. The memories of her family came flowing back and it left her to wonder; were her mother and littermate still living near there? She hadn't seen them in seasons and the thought of crossing them again was chilling. To her, they were the past, not her present or future. Shaking her head, she continued to listen to Rowanblaze as she tried to remember any paths near the Twolegplace. There wasn't one she could remember. She shook her head free of all unnecessary speculations. The rogue knew she needed to concentrate on Rowanblaze's plan and make sure she understood everything. As long as they avoided possible patrols and the border, they were in the clear. "That sounds like a good plan. Plus, I don't think there are any dangers near the Twolegplace," the black and white she-cat meowed, feeling more confident about it. "I just hope we can see Greystorm and Thornstrike soon and I can find the cat who killed Ashtail." image credited to Pixabay - (CC0 license)

He followed behind her quickly, keeping his head down. When she asked a question, he lifted his head and turned it to the side, pausing to think of a proper answer. He wasn't sure in all honesty but he didn't want to outright say that, it wouldn't get them anywhere to admit he didn't know much further than she did. "I like to think that there are others like us, it would certainly bring comfort to me." He mewed before walking again. As they approached the first den, he side-eyed Harlow. He didn't know why he suddenly felt uncomfortable, he had certainly dealt with his fair share of cats before he found his new home. Perhaps it was the fact these cats were more well fed then the others who would cause problems for him. It's not like they are known for their fighting though, I shouldn't feel my heart racing like it is right now. He took a deep breath and hopped down, approaching the brown tabby molly with caution. "I am Lucky, the new cat a few dens down." His reply was rushed as he looked over to his other companion. He did tell her he would be the voice behind him so long as she showed him the way.
"We had a few questions if that's alright, I promise they won't take up too much of your time." He tried to remain hopeful, this was a mission for answers and he wouldn't back down even if he was feeling so off in the moment.

Sootwhisker ;; EagleClan Camp;; Sapphireheart , Alderstar ;; brambleflight ;;
The tom nodded his head slowly, feeling thankful that the deep grey deputy seemed to want to avoid a fight as much as he did. If she manages to save me again, I'll owe her my life. It seemed strange that he would owe so much to the deputy of another clan, but her kind words, gentle gaze, and her determination for a quick resolution proved that she was more than just some EagleClan cat who yearned for battle. She was thoughtful and compassionate. Even warriors in his own clan would be bouncing up and down at the opportunity to battle, wanting just as much as the enemy to have a war. For what purpose?
He murmured his agreement in response to her hope of minor bloodshed. "I am sorry this is happening," he breathed quietly. But the mention of food made him realize how hungry he was. That morning he'd been so intent of finding herbs for Cloudgaze that he didn't eat any prey. Looking at his paws with a sheepish tip of his head, the tom meowed, "I don't want to be a burden but... I would mind a mouse?" At the inclination of his question he looked at her again, feeling his stomach rumble at the prospect of a meal. "I left camp quickly this morning and haven't eaten since yesterday." He added quickly so that she wouldn't assume he was going to eat all their prey.
Rowanblaze ;; Border;; Pansy ;; Sand ;;
Rowanblaze felt the blood begin to pulse in his ears at the prospect of returning back to the camp to spy. He hadn't been gone long at all but as well as spy for more information it would also be nice for him to check if Fireskip was around to see if he was okay. When Rowanblaze had left camp, there was a deep mourning in Fireskip's features - but had it been for him, or for Ashtail? Taking a deep breath, Rowanblaze focused on Pansy. "The twolegplace fence if just by the border so we will have to be careful, but there's enough cover for us to hide if we need too. Let's go now," with haste, the ginger tom turned and headed back to the edge of the border. It would take longer, but it would be safer for them to trek around the edge of the border to reach the fenceline, then to follow it. He hated feeling like he was unwelcome to his old territory but for the safety of Pansy - and for himself too - taking the time to be cautious was worth it.
He weaved through the bushes and climbed over forest debris until they were back at the border. He glanced around to center himself and figure out exactly where they were. "It's this way, I'm pretty sure." He pointed with his nose before heading off in that direction.
Padding onward towards their next destination, Rowanblaze still felt uneasily tense. The whole guessing game of who the murder could be, the danger of investigating, and the emotional toll of his exile were weighing in his chest. "I... I wanted to say thank you," he started quietly, but finished by looking at Pansy. "I don't know what I would be doing now without your help. Even if we are never able to solve the murder... I'll be forever in your debt." He promised.
Sumi ;; Twolegplace ;; Lucky ;; ☾ѕησσzє☽ ;;
Harlow tilted her head quizzically as Lucky stepped forward and began. Obviously, she'd never seen the sleek black tom before but her eyes glimmered with interest. "Hello Lucky, I'm Harlow. It's nice to meet you." The elegant she-cat slowly rose into a seated position and she blinked warmly to Sumi, "Good morning, Sumi." She added.
Sumi stepped forward to stand by Lucky's shoulder and she gave his side an encouraging flick of her tail tip. She greeted Harlow with a warm purr, "Hi Harlow! We've got some important business to discuss." She turned her head back to Lucky so that he could speak than, he had the full attention of both the she-cats.
Being a pampered kittypet all her life, it wasn't often that curious situations like this arose, which is why Harlow peered expectantly at Lucky. Her pale amber eyes were wide like an owl's, but they were full of interest as opposed to disdain or hypercritical.

Pansy - accompanied by Rowanblaze - - border -> twolegplace fence - [aether ] She couldn’t lie to herself, she was intrigued by seeing where ThunderClan lived. It was going to be her first time seeing such a place and the eagerness pulsed throughout Pansy’s lithe frame. It probably wasn’t right for her to be thinking or feeling like she was, but she didn’t know how to stop it. Maybe she didn’t want it to stop either, no matter how bad it sounded. She turned her attention back to Rowanblaze, noting that he mentioned a fence by the border and that there was enough cover for them to hide… if necessary. She hoped they wouldn’t have to hide, but if it came to that, there wasn’t anything they could do. ”It doesn’t sound too bad. I’m right behind you!” she meowed, hurrying after the tom. She didn’t care much for weaving through all the bushes and debris as they made their way back to the border. Some of the leaves were latching on to her pelt, though she shook them off as quick as she could. Pansy didn’t want to make a lot of noise, so a quick shake was the best she could do. When they finally reached the border, she was beyond glad. They had made some progress surprisingly. When the ginger tom pointed out the direction they needed to head in, she nodded. ”Got it.” Though the air had been tense and silent between the two, the rogue was curious as to what Rowanblaze was thinking or feeling. She didn’t feel much, but she did think a lot. Thankfully, his quiet meow was refreshing to her even if the topic was unexpected. Pansy continued to pad slowly besides the exiled warrior, her copper eyes darting around nervously. ”Rowanblaze… you don’t have to thank me,” she began, touching her shoulder to his. ”But I appreciate it. I don’t think I could have made a better decision than helping you. Even if we can’t find Ashtail’s killer, just know that I have enjoyed getting to know you and helping you too. I can’t begin to tell you how much it means to me, despite the circumstances. So, thank you.” image credited to Pixabay - (CC0 license)

With the she-cat before him now in agreement to answer their questions, Lucky straightened himself up. "You see, we've been having these strange dreams." Good start, fur-brain, that sounds so ridiculous to be questioning a cat over! He pushed his thoughts back and straightened his stance, trying to come off as confident as he could. "They differ in some ways but those parts aren't as important to the ones where they grow similar. We are having dreams about these things called 'clans' and 'uniting' them somehow. You might be wondering what the question I have over these are is, well....have you been having any dreams similar to that? We aren't sure if they're actually important or just some weird coincidence." As soon as he finished his spiel, images flashed in his head. He was back in the forest, the cat staring him down, the look in it's saying appearing to be that of approval. As quickly as the image appeared, it went away, leaving him standing before Harlow once more. He slowly blinked his eyes, letting himself adjust to the sunlight once more. What was that? Was he getting ill now or was it something else? He shook his pelt and focused on Harlow once more, gauging her reaction to his words.
