I probably should switch over to Vicky sometime and check out her facebook page to see if she's answered questions, but for now I'm still doing Kate.
But yeah, here's a bunch of answers I found on her old Blog- from top to bottom, they were answered from now to about August 2015, so I apologize of the last ones are kinda old and people know them already.
I found some of these interesting, and one or two might actually be slight spoilers.
*disclaimer- I've edited out unnecessary chat just so this post isn't massive*
Q: Who is your favorite cat in the books? And do you believe spiderpaw is related to blackstar?
A: Favourite cats are Graystripe, Yellowfang, Leopardstar, Brackenfur, Jayfrost, Mousefur, Lionblaze. I kinda like the original cats best. When Squirrelfight, Bramblestar and their mob took over, didn’t love them as much. And I don’t think Spiderpaw is related to Blackstar, but I can’t say for sure; who knows what the characters get up to when the book is closed?
Q: How do you order the allegiances?
A: I don’t! That is the job of editors and publishers. When I write my own lists to use while writing, I just put them in the first order that comes into my head – so usually the protagonists first, secondary characters next, and cats who hardly speak last.
Q: Hallo ^^
Could you tell us the Fur-Colour of Mouse Ear?
He was just said to have tabby fur. But not the colour
A: If in doubt, brown, always brown.
Q: will u include dragons in the next series of warriors???
A: No, but they will be in the new Kate Cary series I’m planning
Q: Is Hawkwing deputy under Leafstar or Sharpclaw? Thanks for the non-WAS answer!
A: I don’t know! Cherith is writing his SE.
Q: We have seen general birth defects in cats (blindness, can’t hear, twisted paws, ect.), but when are we going to see bigger defects like loss of a leg, like being a tripod?
A: No major disabilities planned at the moment
Followup Q: I am just curious since you had Twitch in “Survivors” be a tripod and I would like to know how a cat would cope with it while being a warrior. Not becoming a Cinderpelt sort of thing.
A: It would be interesting. But I fear Warriors has enough disabilities to include in the plot lines already…
Q: How did you decide what order the ranks go in the allegiances back in Into the Wild?
A: We didn’t. It was totally random.
Q: We were wondering if there would be warrior cats plushies… pwease
A: HarperCollins discourages Warriors merchandising.
IKR? Who wouldn’t want a cuddly Greaystripe????
Followup Q: You should say that as executive position of Author, you want Warrior Cats merch!!!
A: I’m afraid as an Erin Hunter I am extremely replaceable. Writers are bottom of the food chain in publishing. Too many of us. So can we change the subject before I get fired?
Q: Hey! I think this is a question that everyone wants to know.
Kate, what is your favorite warriors book you’ve ever written?
A: The Sight will always be special to me because it was the book where I finally started to get the hang of this writing business. But I loved writing Into the Wild most because it was my first chance to write a real, proper book! SO exciting.
Q: I must know the truth, what color is Scourges collar?
A: I’ve been trying to say it’s purple for years but no matter how many times I answer this question, it gets asked again…
and again…
and…you guessed it…
again.
(I may have said it’s red a couple of times. I lose track. Tbh, I imagine it to be so filthy that the colour is no longer recognisable. And if you asked Scourge what colour his collar used to be before it got so dirty he’d probably look at you like you’re a freak and say “Who cares? I’m wearing freaking DOG teeth!”)
Q: Oh Kate! Question: If a she-cat leader was pregnant and she lost a life (not the last one) does the kit die?
A: No.
Q: Just wondering…
Will there every be a death by a spider bite like a black widow bite or a brown recluse bite?
A: No. The wildlife in the books is predominantly British (because we are British writers and write what we know) and, thankfully, we have no poisonous spiders here.
Q: Kate, is it common that cats with the prefix “Feather-“, have gray fur?
And in that case, would Featherstar of COTC be a gray she cat
A: I think they are only Feather because of a certain softness to they fur…
Q: *giant rant about why Firestar did nothing and was super passive after he became leader*
A: Thanks for your considered comment. It is a valid one. Firestar was left behind. But to tell a good story that engages a reader, a writer needs to put the focus in a certain place and keep it there. We are constrained to a definite book length. We can’t turn each Warriors instalment into a 700 page epic. We need to keep it tight. So we have to leave stuff out. And in this case, it was decided to keep the focus on the next generation, which meant leaving the older generation out of focus. If we’d had our new generation running to Firestar for his opinion on every thought, word or event, it simply would have broken the flow of the story and distracted the reader – like when you’re at school; imagine if you had to phone your parents every time your teacher told you something in order to check what they thought about it? It would really confuse and distract you from your day, and irritate your teachers. The fact that you can operate autonomously at school is a testament to the great job your parents have done in raising you, just as the fact that the younger generation of Warriors can manage their own stories is a tribute to the wonderful world Firestar created for them to operate in.
Q: I basically got the same question as Lilyheart a bit earlier: I wonder if all the characters of Warriors that are described as ginger, red, yellow, orange, sandy-colored or even cream-colored are all tabbies, even if they never have been described as such? As far as I informed myself all cats with red-genes do have a tabby pattern, sometimes it can just be really faint:P I am simply curious to know wether or not the cats of Warriors that are described with those reddish/yellowish looks, however without any tabby pattern, are actually tabbies?
A: I tend to imagine un-tabby cats; Vicky and Cherith tend to add stripes to them later.
Q: Kate, i have heard this float about, but kept forgetting to ask you. Apparently Whitewing had Ashfur’s kits (Dovewing and Ivypool) not Birchfall, that is why they look nothing like Birchfall. I thought it could be possible and would explain why Whitewing hasn’t had any more kits. I know that the queens are the only cats that know the kits father and don’t have to say who is the father, but I really what to know if this is true!
A: Ashfur’s kits? Really? This sounds like a malicious rumour. I’m not sure Whitewing would be pleased…
Q: Hey Kate,
If you would choose a cat to have as a real friend in real life,(based on personality) who would it be? Mine’s would be Graystripe
A: Crookedjaw
Q: When Jayfeather dies, will he and Half Moon be mates in StarClan? If they do, will he be breaking the medicine cat code? In my mind, they are mates.
A: I don’t know what will become of Jayfeather and Half Moon. I can’t see why they shouldn’t be mates in StarClan. Surely StarClan is all about happiness? But another Erin might disagree with me.
Q: Kate, if you were in charge of plotting for Warriors, what are 2-3 things you would of done differently? (From any series!)
A: Brambleclaw would have stepped aside for Graystripe to be deputy when GS returned to ThunderClan. But later, Graystripe would have recognised Brambleclaw would be a better leader – and besides, he wouldn’t want to be leader without Firestar at his side – and returned the deputyship.
Q: I heard Bramblestar wasn’t originally planned to be leader . . . I can’t remember why, exactly . . . Vicky said something about it, or maybe just a rumor was circulating around her Facebook fan page . . . either way, was it ever planned for Bramblestar to die/become severely wounded, and for someone else to be leader and deputy?
A: This is a rumour I’ve never heard!
Q: Hi Kate! Who is your least favourite cat?
A: Squirrelflight. I find her a horrible combination of confident and dull. In real life she’d be a regional manager in a office equipment firm, in line for promotion to head office.
Followup Q: What about her daughter, Sparkpaw? Do you like her?
A: Love her!
Another Followup Q: I thought your least favorite cat was Crowfeather?
A: My least favourite changes with time, like the sea.
Q: What warrior cat is most like you, Kate?
A: Right now – Yellowfang!
Q: Who is your favourite cat?
I personally like Mapleshade – is that a bad thing?
A: No! She is fabulously complex and deliciously bad. I however love Graystripe, Lionheart, Whitestorm and all the old school ThunderClan warriors who spent less time fretting and more time warrrioring, in those halcyon days before Firepaw came along and turned Warriors into Worriors.
Q: Are medicine cats allowed mates on StarClan?
A: Yes!
Q: Lol so who’s your favorite ship?
A: Romantically? I was always incredibly touched by Crookedjaw and Willowbreeze, and Turtle Tail’s and Gray Wing. I guess I love the tragic pairings. I also like shipping crotchety elders in the Elders’ Den.
Followup Q: Mousefur X Longtail ?
A: YES!
Q: 1. If Spottedleaf would have lived, do you personally believe she would have given up her medicine cat duties to be with firestar?
2. Do you think Ivypool will ever have a mate?
A:
1. No. She’s too committed to healing and StarClan
2. Yes. I hope so.
Q: Okay, haven’t asked a question in a while, but I want to ask this. How well do you know cat genetics Kate? Do you know mostly the simple stuff, the more complex things like a scientist would know, or are you in between?
A: I colour the cats according to their parents but also to fit the action/plot and to avoid having too many cats the same description in the same den -that’s really hard to write
Q: kate, who is your new favorite character in this arc?/
A: I haven’t decided yet….but I suspect you won’t meet them until book 2…
Q:
1. Who’s your favourite evil cat?
2. Hardest scene to write?
A:
1. Hawkfrost
2. A three chapter battle scene in Eclipse. And the final battle scene in the Last Hope.
Q: This just came to my mind like… yesterday or so but I’d like to know what you and the other Erins made you choose Gray Wing as the main protagonist of the fifth series. I mean… you easily could have just picked the five founders of the clans and let that be the only main characters or just have a completely new cat be the protagonist. But instead you used an already established character – Graywing the Wise – to be the main lead and I’m curious as to why. What made you pick him and not, say, Lightningtail or some other cat? I’m really curious if the reason you and the other Erins picked Gray Wing has a deeper meaning to it (I mean apart from making him a super lovable character of course)
A: When you write, you find yourself getting drawn to certain characters. I think that’s what happened in the fifth series. Gray Wing kinda evolved naturally into the protagonist. I’m not sure any of us expected him to be so important when we started planning book one.
Q: Hey Kate since Littlecloud is ridiculously old and Flametail is dead, will one of the ThunderClan Medicine cats go to ShadoeClan when he dies, will he get another apprentice, or do we have to W.A.S?
A: These questions and more will be answered in Thunder and Shadow
Q: Does Blood Clan make a comeback?
A: No spoilers.
Q: Kate, are their any plans of Crowfeather and Leafpool possibly getting back together in the 6th arc or something?
A: I hope not. She’s too good for him.
Q: Kate, what do you think of Ivypool x Blossomfall?
A: Nope. Just not a match. Not sure why. Will have to think about it.
Followup Q: I think people ship it because Ivypool was comforting Blossomfall about her mother not paying attention to her, and they trained in the Dark Forest together, so they could share that horrendous experience and help each other to get past the terrible things they saw and did there. I think it’s a cute couple, personally. ^^
A: Yeah, I can see that now. But I’m busy with other plans for Ivypool…
Q: Kate, do you think Hawkheart was in the wrong for (SPOILERS) killing Moonflower in the raid on WindClan, in Bluestar’s Prophecy? Because I believe he was just defending his clan and his medicine supplies
A: He didn’t have to KILL her! So yes, I definitely think he was wrong.
Followup Q: I agree he didn’t need to kill her, he could have easily prevented her from hurting his medicine supplies without killing her. But I still don’t like the fact Moonflower raided the medicine supplies, and ThunderClan raided WindClan’s camp. No clan should have their home and medicine raided!
A: That’s true, but nothing warrants a death penalty.
Q: Kate, was Molewhisker (Poppyfrost’s kit) named after Poppyfrost’s dead brother Molepaw?
A: Yes!
Q: Hey Kate. What do u think of Sun Shadow being the second leader of ShadowClan?
A: Ooh, intersting – he always felt a bit of an outsider to me. Would he ever feel part enough of the Clan to be leader? idk…
Q: I notice you mainly wrote Tallstar’s Revenge. I really like Shrewclaw, he reminds me of some people I know! They hate me and are bffs with me at the same time. xD
A: You will find that you will have friends who are enemies throughout your whole life. They are called frenemies. Dump them when you spot them and nurture true friendships whenever possible.
Q: Kate, do you think Breezepelt will go to StarClan or the Dark Forest after he dies? He never did show remore for siding with the DF…and he gleefully attacked Lionblaze during the battle…
A: He has redeeming qualities. There’s still chance for them to show.
Q: *Bunch of chatter about an idea and this at the end: * And you could literally meat the readers’ demands by in VOS have an evil WindClan she-medicine cat perspective.
A: I wish I cold answer all your questions but you probably could think up better answers than me! And an evil she-cat medicine cat? Never!
Q: Just out of intrest, why do Graystripe’s kits all have..problems? I mean, it never goes well. Feathertail dies for the tribe, Stormfur leaves his father to join the tribe, Brairlight has her backbone broken, poor Bumblestripe just gets love problems with a cat who only chose him because he in the same Clan, and Blossomfall feels neglected and joins DF. I mean, poor Graystripe.
A: Poor Graystripe! I’d never seen it like that before. You should see some of ShadowClan’s parents suffer in the book I’m writing at the moment. Oh, the woe, the disappointment! If you’re a Clan cat, never have kits. Too much heartache!
Followup Q: I don’t know if I can read it… I’ll ruin the page with tears. I certainly hope it’s not the kind of kit I instantly fall in love with.
A: S’ok. No deaths. Well, not many.
Q:
1. I heard from a few people online that Dovewing broke up with Bumblestripe because she thought he deserved someone better than her. Is this true?
2. Did Blackstar regret killing Stonefur? Also, do you think Stonefur gave Blackstar the life of forgiveness?
A:
Dovewing thought Bumblestripe deserved someone who loved him more than she did.
I have no idea. Clearly, I must look more deeply into Blackstar’s heart. If Stonefur gave him a life, it was either for forgiveness or for hate.
Q: Kate I have one more question, did Hawkfrost have a crush on Ivypool?
A: I can’t remember but they would have made an awesome couple
Q: Kate, have you ever thought of giving Tawnypelt a noble death? It could show who she truly is because she is always known as Bramblestar’s sister, Rowanstar’s mate, Tigerstar’s daughter, Dawnpelt, Flametail, and Tigerheart’s mother. It would be a nice end for her to develop some drama in the series.
A: I was thinking only yesterday she needs a good plot line of her own. I’d FORGOTTEN she was Braamblestar’s sister. IKR? And Tigerstar’s daughter! She definitely needs her own arc.
Followup Q: Kate, have you ever thought of writing about her coming to ShadowClan?
A: That is a great idea!
Q: ok so me and birch had a brainwave… Alderpaw in the 6th arc is meant to become a medicine cat, and Littlecloudis crazy old . What if Alderpaw becomes Shadowclan med cat?
A: LOL. Nice idea! But we have other plans…
Q:
1.) Why did Vicky stop working on Warriors? Do you know?
2.) Is Mistystar a dark blue-gray cat? Or is she just blue-gray?
A:
To work on other projects.
just blue-bray
Q: *other chatter plus this: *Don’t you dare touch my Graystripe. He doesn’t need to die. Kill Purdy. Or Bramblestar man I hate Bramblestar
A: LOL. Me too. I mean hate Bramblestar. (OK, hate is too strong but I will always feel Cherith and Vicky plotted to get rid of Graystripe behind my back and replaced him with their puppet, Brambleclaw. Of course it wasn’t like that – Vicky and Cherith are fabulous – but that’s just how I feel about it. Some day soon I’m going to have to write my own series, like Tui did with WoF, so I can decide who gets to be leader, who lives and who dies
But yeah, here's a bunch of answers I found on her old Blog- from top to bottom, they were answered from now to about August 2015, so I apologize of the last ones are kinda old and people know them already.
