(Like I don't want you to feel excluded my dude.)
"Excellent," Bal said, only the barest hint of sarcasm dripping from his voice. "Rookie, go do the thing."
"Th-the thing, sir?" Rookie replied.
"The bikes," Bal growled, before his helmet turned to face Cole again. "I'm going to signal the Weylight. If I throw 'Atlas Protocol in Jeopardy' at her captain enough times, perhaps he'll allow me to bring a few more biker scout patrols down here."
~~~~~~~~~
Chol gestured down towards the forest below. "Because the reason why the Ewoks live in tree villages is to protect themselves from the nocturnal predators that stalk the undergrowth in the dark," he stated evenly. "Tonight, at least, you are safe. Be patient and mindful."
With that said, his goggled gaze fell down to the rapidly darkening forest floor below. "Perhaps there was a spy among your ranks," he mused. "Let us assume there was. Why would Imperial Remnants go to so much trouble planting a saboteur? Why would they care about a Republic outpost so far out of the way from any trade lanes?" His turned halfway to face Makra. "Release your fear and anger, think with clarity. Did you... find something, perhaps?"
His head dropped, as if to her lightsaber -- it's clear that he thought it was relevant somehow, yet odd that he seemed so unconcerned about the implications of Makra possibly being its true owner.
( I agree 110%, your guy is just as important to the RP as everyone else )
( Also, just had a big brain moment for what the base's significance was )
Rolling her eyes in annoyance, the girl glared at Chil. Makra found it annoying that he was telling her what to do. A sith's greatest weapon was their emotions, and he was telling her to let them settle. The idea that he was trying to trick her crossed Makra's mind once more. Still, though, she complied. The base was set up to protect something, that much she'd known. The rest wasn't available for someone of her rank.
"Whatever they had us guarding there was none of my business." She shook her head, thinking back to Gillian. "But if it caused such a bold attack, then I'm sure it's important."
She followed Chol's gaze down to her hand. "You know what I am?" Asked Makra.
“Originally,” Chol began with clear bemusement in his voice. “A scared soldier with a salvaged lightsaber and much explaining to do.” Clearly, he found something humorous in revealing he was just as confused as Makra was. A bit of subtle, gentle prodding could go a long way.
“Then, perhaps the very spy you mentioned,” he continued in a more solemn manner. “But the truth is both more straightforward, if complicated than that.”
Chol faced Makra directly now. “That is your lightsaber, isn’t it? You constructed it, attuned with it to the Force. You bled the kyber crystal into the color it is now.” His voice, while not threatening, reverberated coolly from his mask. “Is that correct?”
“How interesting,” Chol remarked thoughtfully. “A darkling repressing her Dark Side abilities for years... while the Dark Side was at its absolute peak.” The consideration of the base seemed to not concern him as much now.
“You learned something from being among the Alliance, didn’t you?” he continued. “Something, perhaps, your fallen master would not, or couldn’t ever teach you.”
“The Force is stronger than any Jedi or Sith. It binds the galaxy and every living thing together,” Chol scolded her. “The Cosmic Force empowers us. The difference is that Sith use the Force as a means to an end, while Jedi see the Force as the end. For the Sith...”
He looked at her directly. It was all too easy to imagine the eyes behind those goggles staring into her soul.
“... The Force is a key to power, and the Dark Side is an easy path to power. Power corrupts, however...”
Chol remained silent for a moment, in contemplation.
“There is no shame in pointing out the hubris of the old Jedi Order,” he admitted. “They grew prideful and arrogant, too comfortable in their role as the ancient protectors of the Old Repubkic, blind to the galaxy around them. They were blinded by the Dark Side.”
His antiox mask hissed. “Rest easy now, darkling. I suspect we have an eventful journey ahead of us tomorrow. I will remain here, in meditation, looking toward the Living Force for clarity.”
“Explain it to me, Captain Kaizen,” requested the miniature Imperial Admiral being projected from Bal’s hand-held commlink.
Apparently, throwing “Atlas Protocol in Jeopardy” at the Weylight’s captain enough times instead put Bal on a direct line with the Fleet Admiral the ship flew in formation under. The operation in this part of the sector was under his command until someone superior showed up, Bal remembered.
“There was a Jedi here,” Bal explained calmly. “She’s dangerous and at large in the local forest.”
“We didn’t anticipate a Jedi being present,” Reach remarked.
“Neither did our inside man,” Bal affirmed. “She looked just like any other Rebel soldier. Now, I need more scouts — we have barely 50 hours before the Republic finds out their Endor base is demolished and-“
“I see,” Reach interjected. “Captain. Grand General Kumiega’s plan is bold, but highly risky — a multi-pronged, sustained assault along our former military bases across the entire galaxy, on unsustainable resources. Even the Moffs must report to Grand General Kumiega by virtue of him being the bigger fish, but if we cannot keep the early stages running smoothly, we may be facing a fractured Empire all over again.”
“Sa... Admiral, Sir?” Bal stuttered, feeing the pressure come on thick.
“Relax, Captain,” Reach said. “I am ensuring you understand precisely what is at stake here. You will have your reinforcements from my captain aboard the Weylight. A man of your caliber should find them sufficient.”
(Oh yes, we should -w-
So admittedly I was kind of coming up with my own thing about what the heck was going on here -- I kept dropping "Atlas Protocol" just so there was something important that sounded like it was happening, but then it actually did take shape. I figured what was important that was found here was that, in the wreckage of the Second Death Star, was a star map containing a particular, long-lost hyperspace lane that was used by a certain four-armed cyborg general in the Clone Wars to bypass the Corellian Sector by taking a shortcut through the Deep Core to Coruscant.)
(So in short, the Atlas Protocol is a battle plan where the Imperial Remnants would hit multiple targets all across the galaxy at the same time, with varying objectives based on the target in question, ranging from mostly diversionary strikes to raids, to some slash and burn / surgical strikes, although a few targets are high priority, take-and-hold locations because of their tactical or strategic value. The main objectives are to completely throw off the New Republic by taking them by surprise and making the Remnant fleet appear far bigger than it actually is in the hopes that they don't recognize that they're spreading themselves too thin, but the primary objective is to provide a straight-up diversion for their most important objective -- to slip the last Executor-class Star Dreadnought and a complement fleet through the Deep Core straight to Coruscant, just like the Separatists did during the Clone Wars. The difference is, they aren't kidnapping the New Republic chancellor -- they're going to try and assassinate them and raze the Galactic Senate building to send a message to the New Republic to try and prove their illegitimacy as a galactic superpower and that the Empire is coming to reclaim its place as the galaxy's master. It's an anti-rebellion.)
Chol was, literally, right where Makra left him. The Jedi had remained kneeling in front of the charred cinders of the fire pit the whole night, apparently in some trance-like state.
The creaking of Makra's footsteps stirred him, however. He peered up from under his hood, taking in his surroundings. "Ah, how fortuitous," he remarked. "It's morning."
(I'd actually rather not, because I don't want to completely take over every single driving force in this roleplay myself.)
"My ship is landed in a clearing some fifteen miles away," Chol remarked nonchalantly, bringing himself up to his feet. "But I sense something else. I spent all night communing with the Force, and I believe that further investigation is in order. The future feels... clouded."
"My ship is a BTL/S3 Y-Wing, and its only passengers were myself and an R4 unit," Chol replied bemusedly, having clearly been expecting her reaction. "As for the Empire..."
The alien Jedi pulled his hood over his head. "We," he emphasized the word, "will not fight them if it can be helped. They cannot kill you if you do not give them the chance." Chol gazed down towards the forest floor, seemingly looking for something. "Trust in the Force, darkling. It is a very powerful ally if you let it in." His head turned slightly, as if glancing in Makra's direction. "Or... take from it, I suppose."
Then, he stepped off of the platform, falling a few dozen meters until landing surprisingly softly on the forest floor.
(I'm not leaving you with many openings, am I? -w-
Well, I believe Cole is there because there was, unexpectedly, a Jedi at the Endor outpost that the Imperial Remnants assaulted to acquire the nexus hyperspace route and stormtroopers can't handle a Jedi on their lonesome. They're on a time constraint, which at this point is about 30 something hours until the local Republic military command notices that the outpost has been destroyed, which is why Bal very very much wanted help trying to find and take down Makra before she could possibly warn them ahead of time.)
“Good!” Chol said as Makra dropped next to him without even looking. “I’m glad you decided to join me. Follow me — I’ll explain my intentions.”
With that said, he started hiking through the forest. “Allow me to be a bit more honest: I want the Empire to be stuck here at Endor. The more reason we do not give them to leave, the more likely the Republic discovers them, and the more desperate they become.”
"Only if we have no choice," Chol scolded her. "I was feeling partial to sabotage. They may perhaps be still at your outpost, or if their victory has been total, then they may be using a lander for a command center if they care enough to still try and find you." Deftly, he side-stepped some sort of mammalian snake-like creature in the undergrowth, the furry creature only lethargically reacting to his presence. "I also wish to find out what for, exactly, the Empire went to so much trouble for."
(Well, my other Star Wars roleplay kind of just stopped, so here's to this one staying alive and me actually making room for other people to roleplay |D )
"That may work," Chol remarked, seemingly unconcerned about the environment around him. Occasionally, the high-pitched voices of Ewoks could be heard speaking to each other somewhere above them in the branches of the giant trees around them. "Now, did you see any vehicles these Remnants used? A Lambda shuttle, perhaps? Its engines would be a prime target for sabotage, stranding them here with us."
(To be honest I could swamp this roleplay with characters but I don’t think it’d be a good idea lol)
“Most stormtroopers haven’t ever met a real Jedi, or Sith for that matter ,” Chol remarked. “Most sentients haven’t, even before the Purge. They wholly believed the Emperor’s claim of an assassination attempt...”
Suddenly, he reached out and grasped Makra’s shoulder. “Thank you,” he said. “That’s very brave of you.”
She looked at the hand on her shoulder. Her old master had never really given her praise for her work. And a thank you in general wasn't too common for her, though being a soldier in the Republic did allow for some achievements that prompted respect amongst her comrades. Makra removed the Jedi's hand. "Yeah, well, you can't have all the honor here, can you?"
As they approached the base, Makra kept low. "Get in there. I'll keep them busy." She took in a deep breath, then stepped out into the view of the four troopers guarding the main entrance. They were having a debate about something, though it was definitely in good spirits.
"I heard you were looking for me." She announced. As they primed their blasters to fire on her, Makra made a quick, scooping motion with her hand. She used the Force to yank the now-unarmed stormtroopers' blasters, igniting her saber.
The fight- if one could call it that- was brief. Makra snuffed them out one by one until only one remained. "Call it in." She ordered.
The trooper, confused, sputtered out, "w-what?"
Makra repeated herself. "Call. It. In."
He nodded, not eager to die. "T-this is the main gate, reporting the J-Jedi."
Before he could continue, Makra yanked his commlink away with the Force. "Captain," she said casually. "For an elite soldier I figured you'd be better at hunting down some girl. I'm right here, let's see if you get lucky again."
With that, she crushed the communicator. Makra stared at the trooper, hesitating. She could easily kill him, but was that the right choice? Closing her eyes, the girl turned her saber off. "Get out of here." She said.
Chol watched the exchange briefly, hidden from sight, before sneaking away along the periphery of the base. ~~~~~ "I've got it," declared the navy trooper interfacing with the outpost's datacore. Virtually every interface had been fried by the explosions, necessitating a direct link. Bal turned away from a pair of stormtroopers. While he couldn't see his eyes, the navy trooper could easily imagine him staring directly into his unmasked eyes. "The Nexus Route?" he asked as the stormtroopers peered at the navy trooper from behind Bal's shoulders. "That, and the security purge," the trooper said. "There haven't been any outbound communications on their array, or ship launches since discovery either. It looks to me like we got everyone who could know, besides the-" "-the Jedi, yes," Bal interjected curtly. "It looks like our information was as good as we could possibly hope for." "Besides the Jedi," the navy trooper reminded him. "Yes, the blasted Jedi," Bal growled. "Shut up and get to work. Be sure to make two copies before you wipe the data." "But sir, the mission didn't call for--" "I'm changing the objectives's parameters." Out of nervous habit, Bal began checking the tuning on his E-11 rifle. "As long as that Jedi is out there, our mission remains in jeopardy. I will not risk failing our main objective, so do it and--" Makra's voice buzzed on the commlink -- all of theirs. Every single one of them heard it, and the split-second hiss of feedback as the commlink was crushed. The datacore was silent for a long moment. "... Captain?" one of the stormtroopers asked, in the unmistakable timid voice of Rookie. "Yes Rookie," Bal replied evenly, without turning to face the trooper. "U-uh... what are..." Rookie's voice died down little by little. "My orders?" Bal supplied in forced cheer. "In a moment; I'm just marveling at my luck. Who would've thought that she'd come back here?" The troopers remained silent. The navy trooper, in particular, hurriedly found something to do with the data. "Someone hail the Inquisitor," Bal said, his voice returning to its normal intonation. "Our Jedi friend thinks that she's got herself a Pure Sabacc, but I've got myself an Idiot's Array. Now-" he pointed at both stormtroopers. "-you two stay here. Rookie, you're taking the backup copy. Once Navy's done, you three are immediately heading to the Vesper and taking off. Don't wait for us." Bal slid between the two troopers wordlessly, clicking shut his E-11's focus array. "Was that a Sabacc term?" Rookie asked. "You must be the Captain's Idiot in his Array, then," the navy trooper quipped. Hawkeyes258, you're going to be up soon .w. )
