I feel like unless you're in a Brambleclaw or Onestar situation, where your kin is literally trying to murder you and everyone you care about, the question is loaded and not really useful. You can have kin in your Clan, making the question entirely useless, but even if you have kin in a different Clan, that's not a big deal either because even if your Clans get in a fight, you can choose not to fight them, and they're not going to be killing each other anyway. Also, having kin in another Clan that you're on good terms with makes those Clans less likely to fight each other (think ShadowClan in Po3 and how little Thunder fought them compared with WindClan; I'm willing to bet that's at least partially because of Bramble and Tawny's families being close).
Personally, I think you should always be loyal to your Clan first, but I don't think that excludes being loyal to your kin (again, unless it's a Tigerstar or Darktail situation). I agree with the end of the article where it says decisions made in favor of everyone's security are the best.
