Why did ShadowClan and RiverClan react so strongly to Hollyleaf's revelation in Sunrise? RiverClan has half-Clan blood in their ranks (Mistystar). Someone knew Yellowfang was pregnant when she was a medicine cat. Leafpool and Crowfeather also didn't have any connection to them.
Their reaction didn't make any sense and it came off as strange.

I definitely feel like the Clan's reaction was pretty overblown, especially ShadowClan and RiverClan. In the moment it's good drama but if you think about it, the gasps of horror and utter chaos when Hollyleaf says they're not Bramble and Squirrel's kits is pretty over the top.
like imagine if the clans are having a normal gathering and suddenly Dawnflower from RiverClan was like "I'm not the kit of Mosspelt and Frogleap." Like you'd probably be confused and a little surprised but you wouldn't freak out over it. And if she revealed that her real parents were, idk, Mothwing and Thornclaw then it would be a pretty big deal but I still think the cats at the gathering were being way overdramatic, especially the clans who had nothing to do with it. Realistically, Shadowclan and riverclan probably would have just silently watched the other clan's drama and be smug about their weakness.

When was the last time a medicine cat from one Clan had kits with a warrior from another? This and the fact that this is TC we're talking about. TC has historical bloody battles with both Shadow and River before the territory moves and mixed blood with TC from both. Ontop of that TC, to many others, has a hollier than thou reputation. Its not just the weight of status but also the cats themselves. Leafpool is a special medicine cat that discovered moonpool and was named in its honor. She's also the daughter of a known hero, Firestar, who had to fight tooth and nail for his reputation because of his kittypet roots. Meanwhile her sister is the mate to Tigerstar's son and current deputy at the time. It's scandalous. Even more so if you take in who Crowfeather is, one of the original travelling cats, comes from a family of deputies, and a relative of Tallstar. WindClan also, at the time, had new found beef with TC. If I were Shadow and River, I'd be making popcorn. |

I kinda want to know what would've happened if Hollyleaf revealed the secret but like most of the cats there didn't care. Like, just awkward silence and a cough somewhere in the crowd.

Two points that are unrelated, I just happened to think of while reading through this thread.
1. The revelation is from Hollyleaf's POV, and she wanted to cause damage. So the gasps of "horror" may have been more like "wtf is going on" noises, and she interprets them as horrified because she wants them to be.
2. ShadowClan, at the very least, has family connection to ThunderClan, and we see the revelation drive a rift between the two Clans in OotS. Tawny's kits were, if not close with, definitely fond of "Bramble's" kits before this, so there was likely some concern from ShadowClan just from that standpoint.

It actually did cause a rift and you can mostly seen it from Flametail and Lionblaze's interactions. Prior to the reveal the three and tawny kits were on good terms. After, not so much, and Russet's death made it worse. |
