I know some people consider him a villain, and I know some people consider him not a villain, but is he considered one in the books?

He's more of an anti-villain, if anything. He did bad things, but he believed what he was doing aligned with the Code and was for the greater good, most likely why he ended up in StarClan and not the DF.

Nah, the Erins pretty much said he was an okay cat, and had a right to fight for his leadership position. I think he just suffered from not being a "main character's friend" tm.

Not necessarily, but he was still an antagonist at best.
