The trip through town was uneventful. The only activity was from people starting to head to their homes. The small group quickly reached the neighborhood. Houses appeared to be shut tight, curtians were drawn in, and no one was out on the street. It was kind of creepy. However Robin didn't let that bother her. She confidently led the way through the neighborhood. She watched for anything out if the ordinary. Though she wasn't entirely sure what she would need to keep an eye out for. The sun was just below the horizon. Not set enough to be completely dark, but dark enough for there to be concern. Sparrow took up the back of the group, keeping an eye out for anything strange. So far their trip had been fine, though neither sibling relaxed. In fact the closer they got to their house the more on edge they became.
"Makes sense seeing as you are a shapeshifter," Robin noted. "The information on werewolves and witches will also be helpful, as well as anything else you know." The young woman was curious to know more about how the supernatural world worked. How they were able to keep everything so secret. She also wondered why so many creatures were attracted to Echo Ridge. Perhaps finding the files would reveal some of those answers.
"Pretty useful?" Robin rolled her eyes and lightly nudged Gifti with her elbow. "You're plenty useful and have been quite helpful. Don't sell yourself short." The shifter hadn't been able to do much yet. However he had insight the Wyatt siblings didn't, which interested Robin.

Night would be upon the small town soon. The telltale signs of people getting ready for the night were more than obvious as people were no longer on the streets, and if they were they were hurrying home without stopping to acknowledge the presence of anybody else. House lights were turned on by people already inside, the light shining through curtains that were closed to the outside world. Things would be stirring before too long. Hopefully everybody in town would be able to make it home lest they run the chance of being the next victim.
Gifti nodded when he heard Robin's comment. "I'll tell you what I know." He was about to add that he didn't know the most about the creatures that attacked and were out for blood, but he was stopped short when Robin gave him a nudge. "I'm more helpful than most," he admitted with a shrug. He had more insight on things than a regular human would have, that was for sure, but beyond that he still couldn't quite solve the entire mystery of Echo Ridge; maybe with Robin and Sparrow's help he could do more than he already had. That was something at least.

By the time they reached their street, the last remains of light were quickly dispapearing. To make matters worse, their house was at the end of the street, the forest uninhabited behind it. Well as far as they knew that was the case. Now with the supernatural creatures about, the twins doubted that was the case. They were alone at the street's end, the other houses around abandoned likely due to the location. Despite her unease, Robin acted like nothing was wrong and confidently brought the group to the front door.
"Here we are, back at home," the woman mumbled as she cautiously approched the house. She took a quick glance around, but saw nothing out of the ordinary. She took a quick look back towards Gifti and her brother. She noticed Soarrow tighten his grip on the bat, clearly on edge. Robin pulled out her key and began the struggle with the door. Around them was silence. No crickets, no breeze to rustle the leaves, no owls hooting in the night. Nothing. The fire-haired woman tried not to let the unease get to her. She had to focus on getting inside, focus on getting to safety.

At this point in time Gifti didn't notice anything odd or out of place. Everything seemed as normal as it would be even during the day. The only thing that was a bit odd was the lack of people, but for Echo Ridge that was the norm once fall came around. Everything was as it should be.
The silence, Gifti had to admit, was a bit unnerving. Other than that everything seemed normal, but he didn't like the silence. The silence meant something was out there. Silence meant that the normal animals that woke up at night were afraid to make their usual noises and go about their own business. Silence was typically the first sign of something being out there, and Gifti didn't like it. He was sure there wasn't anything monstrous in their general vicinity, but things were out there. Far away, but out there.
Noticing the unease that had passed between Robin and Sparrow, Gifti did what he could to reassure them for the time being. "We're fine for now. Nothing's out there, or well, not close to us at least." He couldn't say the woods were completely monster free, but he could at least say they were in the clear for now. Maybe not for long, but for now.

"Alright," Robin muttered. She didn't feel any less uneasy, but according to Gifit they were safe for the time being and that was something. Robin eventually managed to force the door open and get into the house. She sighed in relief and made sure Sparrow and Gifit got through. Once they were in the house, she took a quick glance outside before managing to get the door closed. They would be safe inside...probably. Sparrow set down the bat and locked the door while his sister looked around.
"I'm going to go make sure everything's locked up." Before either man could say anything, she was already heading up the stairs to check the windows. Alone with Gifti, Sparrow gestered with his head to another room.
"All the old boxes are in there. We haven't had a chance to look through any of them, though." The young man opened the door and turned on the light. A fine layer of dust was on most of the boxes. It wasn't as bad as the storage unit, but the twins hadn't gone into the room since they packed everything away.

Gifti could still tell that the two twins were a bit on edge. He didn’t blame them. The nighttime was a dangerous place here in Echo Ridge, he knew all too well just how dangerous the darkness could be. Plus they had just discovered that the supernatural existed. They were new to all of this and wary, unsure of what could and couldn’t be unnatural. And that run in with the strange man they had mentioned earlier seemed to have put them on edge as well. Gifti didn’t blame them for being a tad bit paranoid at the moment.
While Robin went off to make sure everything was secure and locked tight for the night, Gifti followed Sparrow to the other room. Once inside he glanced around, taking note of where everything was. He walked over to a few dusty boxes, using a hand to wipe some of the debris away. As he was doing so a question he hadn’t even thought of before popped into his mind. ”Is this the first time you’ve been to Echo Ridge? Or just your first fall?” He assumed that if their grandmother had lived here they wold have visited before, but maybe she had told her grandchildren to stay away to keep them safe. It wouldn’t surprise Gifti if that were the case.

Sparrow had no idea where the box was within the room. Robin probably did. Starting from the bottom he began to read through all the boxes, trying to find the Echo Ridge one. His attention was briefly turned away when Gifti asked him about the town. "Our grandparents moved here when we were really young. Probably around three or four years old. We did visit a few times when we were kids during the summer, but they never had the best relationship with our father." Sparrow paused for a moment. As far as he knew his father thought paranormal creatures were legends and myths. Perhaps the things at Echo Ridge had something to do with that.
The young man went back to his search after a moment. "What about you? Are you a local of Echo Ridge or someone who's visited before?" he asked. Gifti knew a lot about the area, though that didn't mean he was a local.
Sparrow glanced over the boxes with no luck finding the one they were looking for yet. There weren't that many boxes in the room, they would find it soon enough. After a while Robin hadn't returned yet, which wasn't odd or surprising. She was the type to make sure everything was done right. Sparrow moved the boxes around and checked every name. Eventually he found a box labled Echo Ridge. "I think I found it," he said.

While Sparrow went on to answer the question Gifti had thrown over to him, the shape-shifter continued looking around for the box. He was careful as to not mess anything up or even accidentally drop and break something - that would probably get him a whole lot of trouble worse than being caught by a monster. He didn’t know what sort of stuff could be hidden away in the boxes, and any one of them was just as likely to have something valuable in it as the next.
While still focusing on the boxes, Gifti nodded to show he was listening to Sparrow. ”I see,” he murmured as he picked up a box and then sat it gently back down after realizing it wasn’t what they were looking for. It made sense, then only visiting in the summer and even then relationships were strained. He wasn’t surprised when the question was then thrown back at him. ”Lived here for most of my life, and even before I came here I wasn’t too far away. A lot of supernatural creatures find their way here at some point whether or not they stay. Echo Ridge has...an energy about it,” Gifti explained slowly. ”I’m not sure what it’s all about, but there’s something.” That was about all he could give, and before he could even try to attempt going into more detail he heard Sparrow mention having maybe found the box.
Gifti glanced up and made his way over to Sparrow, amber eyes curious. ”Is that it?” He asked, nodding toward the box in the other guy’s hands.

"So you grew up worrying about monsters every year." He paused for a moment. And knowing that some people thought of you as one of them, Sparrow added silently. "Do you have any family around? Parents? Siblings? Cousins? Perhaps they would have more information that could help us."
Sparrow hoped there were others out there who could help them. People the shifter might know who would be willing to work with the group. Gifti was being up front and honest with them. Beyond that he had no reason to reveal himself as a shapeshifter. He could've easily remained as a cat leaving the twins none-the-wiser. If Gifti trusted someone then Sparrow decided he should too.
After checking all the windows and doors in the house, Robin eventually made her way back to Sparrow and Gifti. They were already in the storage room looking at the boxes. Or rather they had found what they were looking for.
"Yeah that's it," she answered merrily as she joined the pair. Grabbing the box she pulled it towards herself and began to open it. Sparrow peered in, breath held as the Robin opened the flaps. There were foulders stacked in the box, all quite thick. A smile spread across Robin's face.

Gifti shrugged when he heard Sparrow mention having to worry about monsters every year. ”It could be worse. I at least have an advantage over normal people.” With his heightened senses and all, he had a better perception of when things were amiss or out of place. He wasn’t able to avoid monsters completely, but he had a somewhat easier time surviving than a human would.
He should have been prepared for the family question. Instead he felt himself tense up, and he knew if he were in his cat form he would have been twitching his tail and pulling his ears back ever so slightly. The shifter stood there for a moment before he was able to find his voice. ”I don’t,” he replied slowly, not only just hearing the tension in his voice but feeling it as well. The words were hard to get out. It had been a simple question, but one that Gifti didn’t like answering. He wasn’t fond of blatantly remembering that he no longer had his sister at his side.
Robin coming back into the room was a blessing for the shifter. As soon as she reappeared Gifti loosened back up and managed to free his mind of the worst thoughts trying to claw into his mind. He was glad to hear her say that the box Sparrow had found was it. The shifter leaned in closer to get a better look, curious as to what sort of secrets the folders might hold for them.

Sparrow nodded. "That's fair, not to mention you have a better idea about the creatures of the night." Although he was frightened at what might be outside, a part of Sparrow was intrigued about how autumn would go. With who-knows-what running around, it wouldn't be what he and Robin were use to.
The young man noticed a change in Gifti at the mention of his family. He had touched a nerve and to make things worse, he didn't know what to say. After a tense silence, Sparrow finally manage to speak. "Oh I'm...sorry for asking." He paused and bit his lip. Robin couldn't get there fast enough, though he wasn't entirely sure if she would be good for something like that. As if on command, the young woman entered the room and his attention was brought back to the Echo Ridge box.
Robin ever oblivious to the slight tension in the room only focused on the foulders. She could barely contain her excitment as she lifted up the heavy box. "Let's start taking a look at this," she managed out as she headed from the room. A few times the box almost slipped from her hand, though through pure stubbornness she was able to keep a grip on it. Hobbling towards the kitchen table, she set the box down with a thud. Sparrow looked at the foulders.
"Now what?"
"We start reading," the young woman replied with a smile. She pulled out one of the top files, ready to read it.

Even if he knew more about the creatures of the night than a regular human might, his knowledge still wasn't anywhere near complete. And what bothered him the most was that he had no idea what had murdered his twin. He just knew that, whatever it was, it had been a true creature from Hell. There was nothing else that could describe the aftermath of the attack, but he wasn't about to think about all that right now. He couldn't. Now wasn't the time or place. "It's fine." His words were soft against the air. "No need to be sorry." It wasn't Sparrow's fault. He didn't know anything, and while Gifti didn't want to think about everything that had happened, he wasn't about to get mad at Sparrow for asking about something he had no idea about.
Now with Robin back, Gifti's attention shifted to her. The tension that had been building up inside him turned into excitement and curiosity now that the Echo Ridge folders were in their possession. He followed her and Sparrow toward the kitchen, never once trailing his eyes away from the box and the secrets it could very well hold.
"Mind handing me one?" The shifter asked as Robin pulled out the file on the very top. He inched ever closer to where she stood, but rather leaning right over her to grab a folder he waited to see if she could toss one over to him instead.

The young man awkwardly nodded, though guilt prickled at his chest. He kept quiet as the group headed into the next room, now more interested in the box they had found. Although he tried to reach to grab the box a few times, Robin made it clear she had it handled, even though she didn't speak. He watched as his sister pulled a foulder out. He hadn't seen her that excited in a while.
"Y'know if we had gone through this earlier, we could've understood everything a lot sooner," Sparrow teaeed. The young woman rolled her eyes.
"Okay but it was diffcult to do that at the time for many reasons. However we're going through it now, so that's all that matters," Robin replied, slightly grumbling. She handed Gifti a file upon his request, then watched as Sparrow reached for one. Opening hers up, it was dated back to the early 2000's.
"When is yours dated? Mine is from January 9th, 2002."
"March 25th, 1985," Sparrow replied. He glanced towards Gifti, wondering what his read. So far it seemed like the files were out of order by date, though they couldn't be sure.

Gifti gladly took the folder he was handed. Hopefully he could focus fully on this rather than fall into thoughts and places that he did not want to go to right now. Folder in hand now, he began to look it over, checking the date on his to see when it was from.
It took him a moment to read the faded writing on his, but eventually he was able to get it before asked about the date. ”October 13th, 1995,” he replied, then after looking at some writing underneath the date, he found something even more interesting. ”Friday the 13th,” he added, glancing up at the two siblings for a moment as the words slipped off his tongue. ”This one ought to be interesting.”

Robin glanced back at Gifti and smiled. "It'll be an interesting read indeed." She turned back to her own file and began to flip through it. There were no pictures inside, just Echo Ridge lizard in big letters and many pages of notes like before. The first couple pages described reports of a scaley creature who had been terrorizing the town and its possible connection to a string of disappearences. As she read along, Robin found something interesting.
"Sparrow come read this," she urged pointing to the line of interest. Her brother leaned over and began to read out loud.
"Chasing this witch has been diffcult, especially in our old age. Rather in my old age. Carol, however, is still a natural born hunter and knows how to track a beast."
"Grandma was a monster hunter!" Robin had said it with more excitment then intended, especially because Gifti was around. She awkwardly glanced towards him, hoping she didn't offend the shifter.

Interested in what the file had to say, Gifti started flipping through the pages. Inside were a few pictures. Most were just dark pictures of the woods at night, perhaps failed pictures of a creature stalking through the shadows. He took the pictures out for the time being, laying them carefully onto the table to grab them later. He started scanning what was written down on the old papers, once again not finding anything as interesting as he had expected from a file from a Friday the 13th.
He was about to flip a piece of paper over and read the next page when he heard Robin speak up, calling for her brother to come over. The shifter glanced up, interest piqued and curious to know what Robin had found in her own reading. "A monster hunter?" Gifti cocked his head to the side when Robin exclaimed her newfound information. Honestly he didn't have a problem with monster hunters, at least not most of them. The good ones understood that there were some nice and some bad; a good monster hunter knew when to kill and when to befriend. Some monster hunters weren't that way, but that was a topic for another time. "Not surprising seeing that she has all of this and more." He nodded to the files the three currently had out, referring also to the folders and files back in the storage unit in town.

As Gifti placed the pictures on the table, Sparrow let his eyes wander briefly. They were a whole lot of nothing and disappointment. His gaze shifted back to his own file, which was more interesting to read. Well not by a whole lot. It was the thinnest of the three and described a witch in town. She was ultimately non-threatening and actually befriended his grandoarents. Okay maybe uninteresting wasn't the correct way to describe it, having a witch friend would be cool. However It was missing the action and adventure of the werewolf file from the storage unit. When Robin called for his attention, the young man peered over and read the lines out loud. His grandmother was a monster hunter.
"So it seems our grandfather was some type of paranormal reporter and grandma was, as you said, a monster hunter," Robin noted. She nodded in agreement when Gifti mentioned it wasn't surprising. It made sense that she would've been something like that.
"I wonder where all her hunting gear is. Probably in the boxes at the storage unit?" He paused for a moment and whipped his head towards the storage room. "Or maybe with the other boxes in there." He paused for a moment and got up, eager to check. He was gone before Robin could say anything.

It was certainly interesting to find out about all of this. Who would have guessed that he would have run into a pair of twins, show them that he was a shape-shifter, continue to hang out with them, and then discover that their grandparents were very well versed in the world of the supernatural? He certainly wouldn't have. Today was proving to be a lot more interesting than he had originally thought, and to think this all started because he had wanted to steal some food off of somebody.
At the mention of finding the hunting gear, Gifti looked between Robin and Sparrow. "Should we go look?" By now Sparrow had already left to go see if the gear was anywhere in the house Gifti was assuming. Deciding to put the pictures back in the folder before inevitably going after him, Gifti picked them up from the table. He gave them one last glance, flipping through them only to pause and catch his breath when he noticed something in the last picture he must have skipped over the first time around. "Wait a second..."

"If you find something, tell us! We have no idea how to use any of her equipment and frankly I don't think you want to lose a limb!" Robin called over. She wasn't planning on joining them, but Sparrow was gone and Gifti was ready to follow him, so the young woman paused her readings and began to get up. As she followed her brother, she paused as Giftk trailed off from his comment. Joining his side and glanced at him curiously.
"What? You find something interesting?" She took another glance at the image, but saw nothing of interest. Of course there was something that caught the shifter's eye, otherwise he wouldn't have said anything.
As his sister and their guest contiuned their research, Sparrow began to look through the boxes. Most of them were unlabeled and heavy. He wondered if they held some artifacts kept by their grandmother. After pulling aside a few boxes, he began to open them. The first few were uninteresting and full of fine dinnerwear or small figurines. The next couple, however held some things he would expect from a monster hunter. Knives, foot print impressions, rope, and the like.

Now that he was looking at the picture a second time Gifti was unsure as to how he had missed what was in the last picture the first time. It now seemed so obvious that something had been captured. He scanned the picture for a moment longer, just looking at it making him feel at unease, his breath catching ever so slightly in his chest.
Off in the woods near the right corner was a shadowy figure of a four legged beast. It was blurry and hard to decipher what exactly it was - as were most pictures of the supernatural - but there was just enough detail of the figure to make out something dog-like. Beyond that, and perhaps the eeriest of all, were two glowing blue eyes in the midst of all the darkness. ”Maybe a werewolf...?” The shifter mumbled more to himself than Robin. ”No, they’re usually more humanoid than this. Here, take a look.” He handed the picture out to Robin while his other hand quickly went back through the files he had been given, pausing when he found one that he hadn’t gotten to before Sparrow had left the room to search for the gear.
The shifter then took the paper out, amber eyes narrowing as he read it over.
”October 13th, 1995 - 3:13 am,” he started reading the excerpt outloud. ”This is only my second encounter with the blue eyed beast, and my suspicions of it being a werewolf are dwindling. If it is a werewolf it’s of a kind I’ve never seen before, and has never been reported of either. It seems to be accompanied by other creatures that I have yet to even see, but I have heard them out there. One rasps and clicks while a third, or what I presume to be a third, sounds like it’s purring. I’m not sure if these creatures are bound by their own devices, or if they’re the result of some powerful witch or other being in the area, but I do believe they are malicious in nature and even getting this close can prove to be deadly.”
Once he had finished reading the entry aloud he slowly brought his gaze back to Robin, unsure of what to say with that information now out in the open.

Robin carefully grabbed the picture and looked it over. Nothing stood out to her. After a carefully searching the image for a moment, she still found nothing. "What did you- Oh what is that?" She noticed the shadowy figure in the right corner. It had an animalistic look to it, though the exact details were diffcult to make out. She tried bringing it closer to her face, squinting as she pulled down her glasses. Unsurprisingly it didn't help make any details clearer. After another quick glance over the image, Robin set it down. Her attention was pulled away from the strange picture as Gifti began to read from the file.
A chill rolled down her spine as the shifter read the excerpt. She could almost hear the unease and fright from his writing. The way her grandfather described the creatures was almost haunting and the description of the blue eyes stuck with the young woman. Robin twirled some hair between her fingures as she contiuned to listen. After Gifti stopped reading, the young woman drew in a breath. She glanced towards him, blue eyes meeting his amber. She didn't say anything for a moment, still twirling the hair between her fingers.
"Do you have any idea what that might be?" She asked quietly. If anyone knew what those were, Gifti did. And if he didn't, then Robin didn't know who might know.
(I'm heading to bed. Good night.)

Night, amber!
For as much as he knew about the supernatural and the creatures that lurked alongside humans, Gifti had no idea what this blue eyed beast was or even where to begin with it. It was something he had never seen or heard of before, but from what he had seen in the picture and what he had just read made him sure that he never wanted to encounter the beast for as long as he lived.
He could sense Robin’s own unease with this discovery as well, the feeling all the more confirmed when her blue gaze met his own amber one. ”I’m not sure what it could be. My guess at first was werewolf, but...” He trailed off, recalling how the creature didn’t necessarily look like a typical werewolf and what had been said in the file.
Trying to rid himself of his own unease after that, Gifti took a deep breath and glanced back down at the piece of paper, lips pursed in thought. ”That was the second encounter, so there has to be another file on this thing somewhere. Maybe even a third or fourth if we keep digging,” the shifter pointed out after a moment. It could take them ages digging through the files for more reports on the mystery monster, but Gifti had no qualms starting the search now that his curiosity was running wild despite the uneasy feeling just thinking about the monster gave him.

"Perhaps there's different breeds, I suppose, of werewolves like owls or dogs? Perhaps some werewolves are more animalistic than others?" Robin wasn't confident in her answer. Of course she didn't know how werewolves truly worked, but her explanation seemed like a stretch. When Gifti mentioned there being other encounters, the young woman smiled.
"You're right! Wait a moment..." The young woman trailed off and grabbed the file she had been reading. She began to intently skim through it, trying to find any mention of the strange creatures. There was none. Setting the foulder down, she sighed.
"Alright it doesn't make sense that these files would be out of order. Back at the storage unit, everything was dusty, but handled with care. It was well organized and the files were all in order by date. Maybe there's something in here- a small detail, a similar encounter, or something -that connects these cases?" Robin wasn't entirely sure if that was accurate or if she believed it herself. But it was odd that the files were now out of order. She turned back to the box and pulled out another few foulders.
"September 24th, 1996. August 5th, 1987. November 15th, 2003." The dates were still out of order. Robin began to read the last file, hoping to find similar details.

This was okay. Everything was fine. Nova was friendly. She wasn't going to do anything. Taking another deep breath and letting it out, Lillian offered her own smile. It was faint, but it was there. Slowly she was starting to warm up to the other girl, realizing that maybe she wasn't so bad after all despite Lillian having literally jumped right into her. She even managed a soft laugh under her breath when Nova went on to say she printed pictures out. "Well, I," she stopped, fumbling around with her camera for a moment and going through the few pictures she had gotten so far of the day, "got this picture of some of the maple trees." She then held her camera out for Nova to get a look. The picture wasn't professional level or anything like that, but it was good enough overall. (Nova: *gay panic*) Nova smiled gently at the girl, finding her shyness amusing. Noticing the other girl's smile, her own lips unconsciously curved into a smirk, glad to have been able to lighten the mood. Tilting her head as she showed her the camera, she nodded with admiration in her eyes. "They're beautiful! I really like the angle you went for too, not just eye level," she cooed, taking in the details. It was better than the black-haired teen probably could've done, but she didn't get jealous. Really only curiosity and pride. Inhaling sharply, a thought shot through her mind. Did I just...adopt an introvert?
