Sparrow made a fair point. There had been a lot in the storage unit when they had checked, but because of nightfall they had to leave before they had been able to check everything out. No telling what all could still be locked and hidden away in the storage. There could be even more files that they hadn’t seen yet, more things on the monsters of Echo Ridge and perhaps even more on the beast that had been in that picture Gifti had looked at earlier. The thought of that creature still made him uneasy, but that only made him want to learn even more about it. Something that gave even him the creeps was worth checking out. ”If there’s time we could maybe check the storage out again tomorrow,” Gifti suggested. ”Or we could wait until we all have time to make an entire day out of looking through all of that stuff. I’m sure there’s a lot more in there that would take a bit of digging around for.” Even if the storage had been as neat as it could be, Gifti felt it was only logical that some things would still take a lot of work to uncover, especially rarer items that could have once been in their grandmother’s possession.
In intrigued silence did Gifti watch as Sparrow began pulling things out of the box. At first there didn’t seem to be much of anything beyond just the typical knives and whatnot. Those were things even novice hunters would have, and while they were mildly interesting, they didn’t hold the shifter’s attention like something else would. No, it wasn’t until the velvet bag was pulled out and Sparrow spilled the contents of it out into the palm of his hand that Gifti was really interested in the items.
As soon as he realized what they were before Sparrow even mentioned anything, the Bengal shape-shifter took a step back, an involuntary hiss slipping off his tongue. ”I should have expected something like that,” he muttered, eyeing the bullets warily through a narrow gaze. While more commonly used for werewolf hunting, silver affected shifters all the same. After all, a werewolf and shifter weren’t all that different - werewolves were just a more specialized form of a shifter. So naturally Gifti had the reaction to stay away from the bullets, but that didn’t stop him from still wondering what else resided in the boxes.

The young man nodded along as Gifti spoke. "Making a day out of it might be better. I have work tomorrow, but I should be free the day after." The unit had many mysteries they had yet to unwrap. Their adventure earlier was only scratching the surface of what was there. A part of Sparrow was eager to go back and discover what else it had to offer. But he also knew working together as a team throughout a day would be best. They could all look at something different and hopefully find something new. They would even be able to fill in some of the gaps their previous search went.
"How did looking through the files go? You and Robin were in there for a while," the young man pointed out. He wondered if they found something of interest, or if his sister had become absorbed into her research again. Either was a possibility and if they found something, he'd want to know.
Sparrow noticed a change in Gifti as he handed him the bullets. "Everything alright?" He asked with concern. He turned his attention back to the box and pulled out a wood steak. He played with it in his hand for a moment, both fascinated by the weapon and uneasy. He morbidly wondered if it was ever used to kill a vampire, though wasn't sure he truly wanted to know. He set that aside and dug through the box. It was the only one that held anything of true interest so far. He wanted to know what other secrets it was hiding.
By the time he had emptied the box, he pulled out another velvet bag with something inside, a similar plastic bag like the ones from earlier, a piece of iron with some wood around it, and a silver mirror. He glanced between Gifti and the new objects. "What do you suppose these were used for?" Although he doubted the shifter would have an answer, at least for some of it, it still didn't hurt to ask.

Gifti nodded when Sparrow brought up the fact that he had work the next day. ”Yeah, Robin mentioned that earlier. So maybe the day after tomorrow would be best.” Besides, he and Robin were planning on taking a visit down to the police station tomorrow, so digging through the storage unit was out of the picture for them as well. Gifti has no idea how long the police station trip would take, but he was planning it to take a few hours, perhaps even longer if they were able to dig up something really interesting and out of place. He was curious to see what the police might have on their grandma’s death if anything at all. A part of him did hope that her passing was just due to what had been reported - natural causes - but in the back of his mind he also knew the chances of something natural were low. Whatever happened, Gifti was curious to find out.
The shape-shifter was brought out of his reverie when Sparrow spoke up again. He glanced up once having snapped back to reality. ”Well, we ended up finding something that only lead to even more questions than answers,” Gifti answered. ”There was something in one of those pictures… I’m not even sure if I can even explain it properly. My guess right now is some sort of werewolf, but…” He trailed off, the image of the blue eyed beast flashing in his mind for a brief moment. He stifled back a shiver that wanted to run down his spine. ”You’ll have to look at it for yourself and then read what was written about it. Like I said, I’m not even sure I could explain it.”
Attention back on the bullets, Gifti couldn’t help but narrow his amber gaze. He didn’t mean for such a shift in mood so quickly, but he hadn’t expected Sparrow to pull out silver bullets just like that. ”Silver,” he replied with a nod toward the bullets. ”Just as bad for shifters as it is with werewolves.” While he would look at them, he wasn’t about to touch them. He really wasn’t in the mood to feel the burning sensation that silver produced.
What Sparrow found next was rather interesting as well. He looked it over for a moment, noticing the piece of iron with wood around it and the silver mirror. ”Could be for quite a few different things.” Unlike pure silver, Gifti could handle iron. He didn’t have to worry about that like he did silver. ”Iron doesn’t necessarily kill a lot of things, but it can be used to weaken the power of something. Witches, for example. Iron can dull their powers.” Iron was a good tool to have for hunting down malicious witches among other creatures. It didn’t kill most, but it could give a hunter the upper hand in a difficult chase for sure.

“New here too then?” Arlo asked. It looked like she’d been right. “I kinda figured, the locals seem to have disappeared for the night already.” She glanced down the street, empty as it had been for... quite awhile now. She couldn’t even hear any cars nearby. Returning her focus to the other traveler, she continued, “I guess no one’s warned you yet... This place is pretty far from normal, especially at this time of year. I’ve done a bit of research and there’s a reason people won’t stay out after dark,” she paused there, trying to think of the best way to explain it. She had no idea if he believed in the supernatural, in magic, in anything more than normal, but she had to try at least. “During autumn, these... creatures come to Echo Ridge. They only come out at night and from what I’ve read they’ll kill anyone or anything they can find...” She hoped she didn’t sound too crazy... “So that’s why everyone’s been rushing inside.”Her gaze drifting to the sky again, she realized that she probably wasn’t doing a very good job of making her warning about the creatures believable. Why would someone who knew about them go there on a trip and stand just a little way off the road while the sun was setting. She should have been looking for somewhere safer to stay. She really hadn’t made it as far into the town as she’d expected... maybe she’d misjudged the time, or maybe she’d stopped for longer than she’d thought, but regardless of why she’d been standing there, it was a fact that Arlo knew did very little to prove she was telling the truth.

"Ah I'm not surprised. At least you two can look into this more while I'm at work," Sparrow pointed out. The pair would likely stay at the house and continue their search through the files. At least that's what he hoped. Unless his sister managed to get into trouble elsewhere, which was a possibility. It was especially true eith the new discovery. He wouldn't put it past Robin to try and find out more about the supernatural while he was out. On the bright side Gifti might be able to talk her out of doing something foolish.
The young man focused back on the shifter as he talked about their findings. He scratched his chin, intrigued by the results. "Interesting. I mean it would have to be a werewolf or perhaps a general shifter, right? What else could it be?" Even in the world of the supernatural there had to be things that were easily explained. That's what Sparrow assumed at least. However that didn't seem to be the case. Gifti likely wouldn't have brought it up if he didn't have doubts. Of course the young man had only known the shifter for a few hours. Perhaps he did have a tendency to bring things up, whether there was something there or not. "I'll take a look at it tomorrow probably when I'm not looking through hunter's tools."
Sparrow quickly pulled the bullets away. "Sorry!" He exclaimed as he shoved them back in the bag. He hadn't considered the possibility that silver was bad for shifter's like werewolves. The way Gifti explained it made sense. Werewolves were shifter's who could transform into wolf-like creatures. Shifters, from his limited knowledge based off Gifti, could transform into a different animal. There was probably a more specific way to seprate the two, but Sparrow didn't know what that was.
The young man set the sack aside, far from his shifter friend, and turned his attention back towards the last objects of interest. As the other man spoke, Sparrow nodded along. "I wouldn't be surprised if grandma hunted a witch with the iron here. Isn't it also some kind of counter charm aganist fairies too?" Sparrow didn't know a lot of mythology, but he knew iron was a powerful tool aganist plenty of beasts. Robin would likely have a better insight on the topic.

Time — --cato phoenix The young man nodded when asked if he was new to the town as well. This was his first time here in Echo Ridge, and he wasn’t entirely sure how exactly he felt about it just yet, but none of that mattered. It wasn’t like he was going to stay for long, just a few days, a week at most, to get himself rested. After that he would be on his way to the next town, then the next, and the next, and so forth. He didn’t plan on staying in places long. As the girl explained everything she knew about Echo Ridge, Time stood there, giving a small nod of acknowledgement as she spoke. Time felt like he should be worried about everything he was hearing from the girl, but the talk of deadly monsters that came out at night didn’t startled him as much as it probably should. ”That’s a lot to take in,” Time commented after a moment of just standing there in silence after the girl finished her explanation. ”Do you have a place to stay?” It was an odd jump from his comment to the question, but Time couldn’t help himself as it slipped off his tongue. ”I mean, if it’s so dangerous to stay outside at night…” He glanced up at the sky, the sun’s light trickling away. ”Shouldn’t you be inside?” The question could easily be thrown back to him seeing as he wasn’t inside either, but Time wasn’t worried about that. If he needed to he was sure he could sneak inside a hotel room or something. And if he ended up having to stay outside during the night he was sure he could take care of himself. While he wasn’t fond of some of the stuff he knew, Time did know how to fend for himself if it came down to it. Gifti — Amber With their plans for the next two days pretty much figured out, Gifti focused his attention on what he had discovered in the files earlier with Robin. Thinking about that creature in the photo still made him uneasy, but he wanted to know exactly what it was. He knew he didn’t know about everything that was out there, but it was bothering him that he, a supernatural creature himself, couldn’t pinpoint quite what that monster had been. ”Could be a shifter,” Gifti agreed after Sparrow brought up that possibility, but that didn’t seem to settle right with him either. ”Werewolf, shifter, it was certainly canine in nature from what I could tell, maybe you can think of something when you get the chance to look at it.” That was when a hint of humor glinted in Gifti’s eyes. ”But of course, it’s like every other photo of the supernatural or paranormal - blurry and hard to see.” Now that was something Gifti couldn’t explain either, how monsters had the innate ability to make even the most steady of pictures blurry, but that’s just how it was. Back to the silver bullets, Gifti shook his head at the apology he was given. ”It’s fine, you didn’t know. I’ll just pass on holding them.” Sure, the bullets were cool in their own way, but that didn’t mean the shifter was going to risk himself some injury just to get a closer look at something he knew was bad for him. On the other hand, iron was something he could handle with no problem. He nodded to confirm what Sparrow asked, chuffing softly in faint amusement. ”You seem to know a lot more than I would have given you. You’re right about the fairies, they aren’t a huge fan of iron. They don’t seem to be a big fan of much of anything outside other fairies, really.” That was a creature Gifti knew some about, but he had never actually been able to really get to know any fairies. He had met one or two over his lifetime, but the interactions were short lived and over before they even began. That had left him with the thought of fairies being a bit rude and short in patience for creatures outside their own species, but who knew, Gifti could be wrong about them. Maybe he’s get the chance to change his opinion one of these days.

The young man nodded and furrowed his brows with concern. If Gifti didn't know what it was, was there someone who did? "Maybe I will have some good insight after taking a look. Though I don't know much of the supernatural. Now if it's research you want, Robin's your girl. She loves that kind of thing and is very efficient when it comes to studying." There was a reason he passed high school and it was because of how well his sister kept her notes and how well she taught him to do the same. He was grateful for his twin and knew if the shifter needed help, he could go to her. Gifti continued to speak. "Well if the picture was blurry, maybe it's something entierly different? Perhaps not any type of shifter at all." The thought likely already crossed the other man's mind, though Sparrow had to suggest it. What if was something entierly different from what they expected.
Sparrow nodded as he put the bullets away. Even if the shifter didn't have much if a problem, the young man still felt bad about the possibility of hurting his friend. Turning his attention back towards the other objects, he took a glance over them. The iron worked aganist most creatures by the sound of it. When Gifti confirmed his suspicion, Sparrow couldn't help but beam a little. He was proud that he was correct with the fairy assumption. "Yeah it surprised me too. I didn't know I knew as much as I did, though it makes sense if I'm actually thinking about it."
As Gifti looked at the iron, Sparrow handed him the small bag with what appeared to be a tooth of some kind. He then looked over the silver mirror then towards the other velvet bag. Sparrow picked up the dark bag and played with it in his hand for a moment. The object was heavy and seemed to be mostly solid. After a moment, he carefully opened it up and pulled out a small box. His eyes widened with interest as he looked it over. As he examined the wood and metal box, he heard footsteps head into the room. Taking a quick glance behind him, Robin had returned with their sandwhiches.

There was a wide array of possibilities on the identity of the creature in the photo. Sure, Gifti was expecting it to be a sort of werewolf or shifter, but for all he knew he could be way off. It would be best to look into it more and get insight from other people regardless if they knew a lot about the supernatural or not.
”I plan on contacting some werewolf pals of mine,” Gifti explained after Sparrow went on to mention Robin’s prowess in studying and research along with his wondering if maybe it was something entirely different from a shifter. ”I found an entry that talked about the creature in the picture, and eventually me and Robin, and you if you’d like,” he doubted Sparrow would want to be left out, ”are going to look through to see if we can find other entries about it. The one we found mentioned it being the second run in, so we know there was at least one more.” The shifter was sure Sparrow would want to know about all of that, about all that they had found and what they planned on doing with the information. Sparrow was apart of this mystery just as much as Gifti and Robin were, and letting him in the loop was of the utmost importance.
A smile pulled at Gifti’s lips and he let out something of a purr as Sparrow mentioned knowing more than he thought. ”See, this stuff isn’t all that hard, and it makes a lot of sense once some thought is put into it.” Honestly the shifter was proud of the two come to think of it. Today had not been how any of them thought it would go, that much was obvious, but both Sparrow and Robin were taking all of this and making it their own. Not many people would handle this as well as they had.
Taking the bag he had been handed, Gifti carefully opened it up and looked at what was inside it. Gently he let the tooth slide out of the bag and into the palm of his hand, amber eyes narrowed with curiosity. ”An interesting looking tooth…” He murmured more to himself than anything before glancing back to Sparrow, curling his hand around the tooth to keep it secure. He was about to ask what Sparrow had found in the next bag when footsteps echoed into the room; Gifti turned, smiling in a warm greeting as Robin entered the room with some sandwiches. ”Welcome back.”

When the shifter mentioned talking to some of his werewolf friends, Sparrow nodded. They might know what's in the picture, he thought with a faint smile. "That'll be good. Werewolves would know their own, right? I would assume at least. As far as I know, I've never talked to one." Perhaps he had made conversation with a supernatural creature before. Unfortunately he would never really know.
"Yeah that would be great. The more we find out about this mystery beast, the better, right?" Part of him doubted that was the case. What happened if they found the mystery creature? Would they like what they found? Would they be horrified by it? Sometimes knowing less was better. However he didn't bring up the concerns with Gifti. The other man likely had enough to worry about at that point. "Anyway I think if the three of look for it we'll find something. And if we all read it, that just means fresh eyes can find details the others may have missed."
Sparrow was growing excited. The mystery and adventure of the new world was enticing to him. He was eager to find out more about the creatures that lurked in the night and wanted to learn the ways of a monster hunter. Or maybe just a monster tracker. He wasn't sure if he could stomach killing something. Of course perhaps monster hunting didn't always entail death and destruction. He would just have to look into it at some point. Turning his attention back to Gifti, Sparrow offered a smile. He felt encouraged by the shifter's words.
When Gifti talked about the tooth, Sparrow glanced at it. It was unusual. "Maybe it's broken?" Sparrow wasn't entirely sure that was the case, though it could explain why it was off. Robin handed her brother a plate as she glanced at Gifti. She flashed a smile before sitting by her brother. As she took a bit of her sandwhich, she glanced at the box her brother had.
"What's that?" She asked between bites.
"A box of some kind. No idea what it is. Found it in this." Sparrow handed his twin the bag. She took a quick look at it with interest.

”Oh yeah, if it’s a werewolf they’ll know it,” the shifter answered with confidence. They would know all about other werewolves a lot more than Gifti would, and even if it was some sort of different breed or subspecies or something of that nature they would know. Gifti believed in his wolfish friend’s’ abilities to identify creatures even he didn’t know.
Sparrow was making a lot of good points as he continued to speak. The more they knew the higher the chance that they would figure out what was going on in and around the town. They would also be closer to figuring out what was out there and what had happened to the twins’ grandmother, and Gifti could perhaps then figure out what had happened to his own twin sister. ”You’re right. With all three of us together looking over everything, we can find missing pieces somebody else missed. We might just be able to pull this all off,” Gifti mused, a spark of his old enthusiasm and optimism shining through.
The tooth was now on the forefront of Gifti’s mind. For all he knew it was simply the fang of a vampire or werewolf, nothing entirely exciting, but it did have a peculiar shape to it, something that didn’t quite match a vampire but didn’t seem all that werewolf either. Honestly he was probably just letting his imagination get the best of him, especially after seeing that photograph from earlier. The tooth was probably nothing special, but he was still going to hold on to it for a little longer, give it another good look after a moment.
The shape-shifter’s attentioned landed on Robin for a quick second before it was back on Sparrow and what the other man had found. ”Can you open it?” Gifti asked slowly, wondering if maybe something was kept away inside the box.

"That's good! And impressive, though I suppose it'd be like me identifying a picture of a human." He assumed it was like that at least. Maybe there was something specific that would allow one of Gifti's friends to know if the creature was a werewolf or not. As the shifter spoke, Sparrow nodded in agreement. The fact he had faith in their plans gave the young man more confidence.
As Gifti began to look over the tooth, Sparrow turned his attention back towards the small chest. There was an aged lock at the front but no key in sight. The wood was solid and polished while the metal was in pristine condition. There was nothing of interest on the outside, though he hoped that would change once he opened it. As he held the box, Sparrow lightly shook it trying to see if there was anything inside. He didn't hear any noises, but that didn't mean it was empty.
"No idea if I can open it. But I can certainly try." He paused and began to fiddle with the lock. Robin rolled her eyes and took a quick look through the bag. After a moment of shaking it and blindly feeling around, she found a small key.
"Here, try this." She tossed the small key to her brother who immediately began to open it. As he worked the box open, Robin glanced at Gifti. Maybe it was because her brother was distracted, but he didn't bring up their grandmother's death. It seemed the shifter hadn't mentioned their newfound concerns or the fact they were going to the police station tomorrow to her brother. That was good. She didn't want to freak Sparrow out or have him worry about something that might not even be true. Only if their investigation turned up anything would Robin say something to her brother.
Her attention was brought back to Sparrow as she heard a small click. The box was unlocked. The young man smiled as he removed the lock and opened the tiny chest. A moment of panic flashed through her mind. What if the box contains a cursed object! She thought. It was too late to say anything as Sparrow looked into the box. He was quiet for a moment, then held up a small, golden band. It looked like a snake with two emeralds for its eyes. Robin was enamored by the piece of jewelry. She glanced at Gifti.
"Do you know what that is?"

Arlo watched his reaction to her explanation. He didn’t seem to be too alarmed by the information, she hoped he believed her at least. She didn’t want to find out that someone else has been killed when she’d had a chance to do something about it. She nodded in understanding when he replied, feeling a bit relieved. It was true, it was quite a lot to take in, especially to someone unfamiliar with similar things, but at least he hadn’t told her she was crazy and walked off like she’d kind of been expecting. At his question, she glanced back down the street. It was a good question, one she really should have been asking herself earlier. “Well, I uh...” She paused, thinking of an abandoned building she’d seen awhile ago. It was a possible option if she was unable to find something better... and if she remember where exactly it had been. Why hadn’t she written it down? She was a little irritated with herself about that- she really should have had a more reliable back up plan. “I’ll figure something out.”Honestly, Arlo expected that she would be able to handle the creatures is necessary, but that didn’t mean she wanted to be stuck out in the open, waiting for them when she wasn’t sure what she would be dealing with. “Guess I wasn’t planning things very well,” she admitted with a sort of awkward laugh. More like not planning at all... (sorry if this is a bit messy, I wanted to try to get a reply up before dinner)

Gifti — AmberDespite the tooth being interesting, Gifti decided he would worry about identifying it later. At most it was just a chipped werewolf tooth or something like that, nothing of true importance. It was just a tooth in the end, what could a tooth help them with? So rather than focus all his attention on the tooth, he put his attention on Sparrow and the box, wondering what could be inside it. For all he knew there was nothing of interest in there either, but it never hurt to try and open it to see if there was anything at all inside. As the twins carried on their own conversation and attempted to figure out how to open the box, Gifti found himself lost in thought for the time being. He knew he was getting himself into a lot by being here and helping the two. He could have just stayed as a cat for the entire time and stuck with his original plan of sneaking out and running off before he was made into some house pet or, worse, taken to the shelter. A shudder ran down his body at the thought. He had sworn he would never end up in a shelter ever again, it had been like jail but for poor, starving animals. Luckily he had been able to get himself out, making a daring getaway when a worker had come in one morning to clean out kennels. Freedom had never tasted so sweet after that little incident. But enough of that. He was brought back to reality when a click echoed faintly within the room. He perked up, looking over at Sparrow as he brought out a golden band that resembled a sort of snake. He cocked his head as he looked it over. It was honestly a stunning piece of jewelry, but when dealing with the supernatural its beauty could be deceiving. ”Could be some sort of charm,” he murmured after a moment, lost in thought as he looked it over some more. ”Something from a witch or enchanter.” It seemed harmless, and Gifti wasn’t getting any bad vibes from the piece of jewelry, but one could never be too sure when it came to things like this. Time — --cato phoenixIf he was being honest he found it a bit odd that the girl didn’t have a place to go. She had mentioned being new to town as well, but with everything she knew of the place it seemed like she would have thought about finding somewhere to stay for the night in advance. Then again, Time knew nothing about this girl and she could have had bigger things to worry about than overnight shelter when she had come to the town. And he couldn’t say anything about it, either, considering he was in the exact same boat as she was. Based on the way she spoke she didn’t seem all that comfortable with the thought of staying outside, or at least, that’s how Time was interpreting everything. He was probably assuming and was way off on how she really felt, but his mind was set on her not wanting to stay outside if she could help it, and even if he had no idea who she was there was a small part of him that wanted to at least help her out and get her on the right path to finding somewhere to stay. He very well wasn’t the one to go to for help, but he wanted to at least try. As if something out there knew people were still milling around outside, a faint howl split through the air. It sounded far away, but the sound itself brought a chill through Time. It was sharp and high-pitched, overall just an eerie noise that didn’t belong to some normal dog. Looking back to the girl with his mix-matched gaze of one green and one blue eye, Time softly asked, ”Maybe we can find some place together? I mean, staying out here alone probably isn’t the smartest move…” He looked around where they stood. Nothing was out of the ordinary, but that howl still echoed in the back of his mind like some sort of frightening memory on repeat. ”Oh,” he quickly breathed, realizing he had yet to introduce himself. If the girl decided to tag along with him, she would probably want to know his name. ”I’m Time, by the way.”

Robin mindlessly grabbed the strange band and began to look it over. Turning it in her hands, she examined the craftsmanship of the jewelry, impressed by the small details. It's quite beautiful, she thought with a satisfied nod. The longer she examined the piece, the more enamored she became with it. Slowly a growing desire to out it on began to wash over her. She barely noticed it as she turned it in her hands.
As his sister took a look at the snake bracelet, Sparrow took the opportunity to look at the box again. He noticed something odd on the front lid for the first time. It was a notecards. Pulling it free from the cloth lining, he began to read it out loud. "The Golden Snake Band. Don't use at any cost. I gave it to Carol Nancy and she changed. Something, something bad. I can't read that part." Sparrow paused and tried to figure out what the card said for a few minutes. After an unsuccessful attempt to reread it, he sighed.
"Okay I can't read what's written. Would anyone like to help?" Although he couldn't read the rest of the description, the object seemed dangerous and likely needed to be locked away from prying eyes. He glanced at Robin who continued to look at the ornate object. She didn't say anything. He then glanced towards Gifti to see if he would speak up. He mentioned something about the band being a charm of some kind, which had Sparrow slightly worried. He gazed towards his sister again.
"Uh Robin, did you hear me?" He paused for a moment when Gifti mentioned it could some type of charm or even an enchantment. That didn't sound good.
Robin didn't hear her brother or the shifter speak. She was mesmerized by the bracelet. "Very impressive piece," she muttered, oblivious to her companions.

At this point Gifti was keeping a close eye on Robin as she examined the golden snake band. He couldn’t be sure if it was some sort of charm or hex or anything of that nature, but he didn’t exactly feel comfortable in believing it was harmless, either. There was just something about it that made him feel restless, like he couldn’t trust it.
For a brief moment he payed mind to Sparrow, listening to the other man read a note that was mostly unintelligible but got a dire point across.
Without a word he went over to where Robin was, reaching a hand out near her to snap his fingers in hopes of grabbing her attention. ”Robin, hey, Robin.” He snapped his fingers a few more times before motioning with a quick flick of his free hand toward Sparrow. ”Get the box ready. Once we get this away from her I don’t trust leaving it out.” The band came with a warning, and seeing Robin getting so deeply intrigued by the golden piece of jewelry was a bit worrying. Maybe she got this way over any piece of jewelry, Gifti couldn’t be sure, but with how Sparrow seemed to even be a bit worried the shape-shifter didn’t want to risk anything bad happening.

There was something wrong with his sister. Sparrow narrowed his eyes in concern, then glanced back at the notecard, and then towards Gifti. The shifter snapped at her and tried to get her attention. She barely acknowledged Gifti. Sparrow reached out towards his twin and lightly grabbed her arm.
"Hey Robin, you doin' alright? You haven't said much and we're worried about you." Nothing. She continued to stare blankly at the bracelet. It was not a good sign. They had to get that thing away from her, and fast. Sparrow didn't want to find out what else it would do to her. Robin was the type to ignore the world for any th ing. Jewelry, food, or even research. He reluctantly turned his attention away from his sister and towards the shifter. He quietly nodded along to the man's words, then glanced back towards his sister. Upon Gifti's instruction, the young man held the box open and collected both the lock and key. Whatever the thing was, he wanted it away from them all as soon as possible.
Robin wasn't aware the shifter spoke. She was also oblivious to her brother trying to snap her out of her trance. When Gifti s apped at her, he briefly grabbed Robin's attention. It didn't last long before she returned her gaze to the bracelet. She was barely aware of Sparrow grabbing her upper arm in a failed attempt to get her attention. The longer she stared at the golden band, the more entranced she became by it. With it, a faint feeling of unease and dread grew. Unfortunately it wasn't great enough to snap her out of it.

Yeah, he didn’t like this. He didn’t like this at all. Gifti could tell that something wasn’t right with Robin, and he knew it had to be because of the bracelet. Whatever spell or curse had been placed upon it was not a good one, and the last thing the shifter wanted was something to happen to Robin that could potentially harm her or worse, and no telling if the hex was permanent or not if exposed to it for long enough. There could be a wide assortment of problems the bracelet would cause, and if Gifti could avoid all of them then he’d be pretty content.
He couldn’t stop himself from letting out a faint growl when he wasn’t able to direct Robin’s attention away from the presumably cursed piece of jewelry. ”Hey, Robin,” Gifti tried again, words harsher than they had been the first time he tried grabbing the young woman’s attention. For a second he wondered if he could just reach out and grab the band out of her hands, but a logical voice in the back of his mind told him that probably wasn’t the best idea. That felt like something that would have to be a last resort if they couldn’t get Robin to naturally snap out of whatever kind of trance she was in at the moment.
Gifti looked back over to Sparrow for a moment, nodding to show he noticed that he had readied the box while at the same time silently sending a question of “what should we do” to the other male. Whether or not the silent question made itself clear was another question in and of itself, but Gifti wasn’t sure what exactly he should or shouldn’t do in this situation, and he for sure didn’t want to somehow make it worse by making the wrong move here.

He was at least partially right, Arlo wasn’t exactly comfortable staying out in the open on her own, but her feelings on the matter were rather strange. Despite the town’s abnormalities and potential danger, she felt more comfortable there than she had in almost all of the other places she’d passed through recently... or was it because the town was so far from normal? It might have seemed ridiculous, but she couldn’t help but wonder if it was the truth and if that was what had drawn her to Echo Ridge. Arlo glanced in the direction the strange howl seemed to have come from, her visible eye narrowing though it was much too far away for her to actually see. It didn’t sound quite like anything she’d heard before, though there were a few vaguely similar things she could think of... interesting. The creature hadn’t sounded like it was very close yet, but she went ahead and slipped her notebook back into the pocket of her coat before returning her focus to Time as he spoke again, only to glance away yet again as she considered his question. It had been a long time since she’d traveled with anyone, even temporarily- heck, this was probably the longest she’d spoken with anyone in quite awhile. It seemed like no matter how far she traveled, she still found it difficult to trust most people. This among other reasons was why she was startled by the words that quietly slipped from her own mouth a moment later. “I suppose that would be a better idea...” Well, it was the truth, it just wasn’t a solution she’d usually choose without considering other options first... of course, considering options required having some to begin with. “If you’re sure.”Her eyebrow raised just a bit as he introduced himself. Time was an unusual name, kinda neat though. “Catherine,” she replied with a slight smile. She’d decided many towns back to use her more common middle name while she was traveling since she figured it was less likely to be recognized.

While he couldn’t quite pinpoint it, there was something about this new woman that had caught his attention. She knew so much about Echo Ridge despite mentioning she wasn’t a local, and she seemed lost all the while seeming to fit right in. It was all just a weird combination for Time, but he wasn’t about to question it all. He had his own secrets and he’d allow her to keep her own. Besides, he wasn’t here to pry, he was here to try and offer her help by finding her and himself some place to stay. Surely there would be a hotel or something that would let them crash there, and if not, he knew how to subtly break into places if absolutely necessary. He hated that and didn’t want to do that, but if push came to shove he had to go for drastic measures.
After hearing that howl, Time had to be honest and admit that he was somewhat on edge. Well, he was constantly on edge really, but that didn’t matter. The howl at least put him a bit more on edge than usual, and he was ready to try and be of some help to somebody.
He nodded in response to her words. ”I’m sure. It’s the least I can do.” And probably the most he could do in his current situation, but Time didn’t want to exactly point that out right now.
Hoping she would tag along and follow, Time started walking deeper into the town, pausing ever so slightly in his steps when the young woman gave her name. ”Catherine’s a good name,” he complimented with something of a half-lipped smile that was almost too small to even notice. With a name like his he had no right to judge somebody else’s name, but Catherine did have a nice ring to it. It seemed like a peaceful name, and if there was one thing Time cherished it was peace.

The young woma still ignored Gifti despite his harsher tone. Sparrow glanced towards the shifter, a pit of worry and fear growing in his stomach. He seemed to ask what they should do next. The young man couldn't be sure. He had no idea what would happen if he snatched the bracelet from her hands and wasn't sure if he wanted to find out. It was also a good idea to avoid a fight if they couldn't, though if it came to one he wouldn't be sure what to do.
Robin turned the bracelet in her hands one more time before beginning to put it on. Without a second thought, Sparrow leapt forward and began to tickle his sister. There was no reaction at first, then she began to laugh. As she tried to push him away, she dropped the golden band on the floor. Using his foot, Sparrow kicked it to the side as he continued to distract his sister. After a moment, he stopped and was met with a slight glare from the young woman.
"Hey! What was that...for..." The situation dawned on her as Robin realized what happened. She twirled a piece of hair between her fingers as she looked at the objected then between Sparrow and Gifti. She could feel her cheeks redden with embarssment slightly. How could she have been so foolish? There had been something clearly wrong with the snake band and she didn't detect it.

Gifti could feel the tension rising as both his and Sparrow’s attempts at snapping Robin out of her trance failed. It was thick and uncomfortable, and the shape-shifter wasn’t fond of the uneasy feeling that was clawing at him like an angered beast. If they couldn’t figure out how to snap Robin out of then something terrible could happen. He didn’t know what sort of hex has been placed on the bracelet, but whatever it was it wasn’t favorable and Gifti didn’t want to sit around and wait for it to claim Robin as a victim.
Just as he was about to rack his brain for something else that could possibly get rid of this trance, Sparrow made a move. He would have never thought of tickling himself, but it was certainly worth a shot. Something as intense as that would surely knock Robin back into reality - granted that the hex wasn’t so powerful that even just the most minute of hyperfixations could completely wrap a victim’s attention in its grasp. No, don’t think like that, Gifti mentally scolded himself. Surely if their grandparents had ran into something that dangerous and powerful they would have rightfully disposed of it.
Robin dropping the bracelet was a good sign, and Gifti felt some of the tension leave his body as the charm was kicked to the side. Not wanting to keep the thing out any longer than necessary, Gifti skipped the niceties of welcoming Robin back to reality and jumped straight to going toward the bracelet, careful to not give it direct eye contact. ”Sparrow, do you have the box ready? I’m going to grab this thing and as soon as I have it it’s going back in.”

"I'm so glad that worked," Sparrow breathed as Gifti headed towards the bracelet. When the shifter called to him, the young man recollected the box and shoved it towards the other man, leaving it open. "It's ready. Let's hurry and lock the thing back up."
While her brother and Gifti dealt with the snake band, Robin grabbed the notecards Sparrow has dropped. She began to read over it. The hand writing was hard to read, though she somehow managed to decipher what it was saying. The bracelet calls to its victims. Once they are under its control, they put it on and act normal. Over the next few days as they wear it, scales start to appear on their body and they become more snake-like. From what I gather it was a cursed bracelet given to someone by their ex-lover as revenge. Do not out on any any coast. It's diffcult to remove. A chill rolled down Robin's spine. So maybe she wasn't crazy in thinking the band called to her.
As her brother and Gifti worked, the young woman glanced towards them. "We need to lock that thing away and make sure it's never given to anyone. Or maybe see if someone can destory it. That bracelet is bad news," the redhead informed them. She readjusted her glasses as she watch the pair deal with the jewelry. While the box was open, Robin slipped the notecards in, just in case.

Gifti nodded when he heard Sparrow's breath of relief. He remained silent and focused, though, as he took the box from the other male, securing it in his grasp to make sure nothing allowed for it to fall or slip out of his hand for some reason or another. He couldn't chance the risk of the bracelet entrancing him. After seeing what it could do to Robin after she had only held it for a minute, the shifter didn't want a part of that.
Glancing at it long enough to put it inside the box, Gifti quickly put the hexed piece of jewelry away, locking the box just as quick as he had put the band inside once Robin had slipped the note cards inside. "Honestly, if we can get somebody to destroy it that might be best," Gifti pointed out once he was sure he had securely locked the box. "If this got into the wrong hands..." He didn't finish the statement. While he hadn't told Sparrow about his and Robin's theory on somebody having gone through their grandmother's stuff, he was sure that Robin would at least understand what he was implying with his statement there. Just because the twins lived in the house now didn't mean whoever could have gone through the files - if anybody had even done that - would quit trying to get their hands on anything they could.

Once the box was locked, Sparrow shoved it back into the velvet bag and closed it. He put the object back in the box he found it in, really not wanting to deal with it any more. Once it was out if the way, he looked at the last thing he found, the silver mirror. After the incident with the snake bracelet, he wasn't entirely sure he wanted to pick it up. However if it were a danger, it wouldn't be out within the box. Sparrow glanced towards Gifti and then Robin, as if looking to them for guidance.
Gifti wanted to destory the bracelet, and Robin was inclined to agree. When he mentioned it falling into the wrong hands, she understood what he was saying. The young woman nodded. "Yeah, if someone knew about that thing, then it could mean bad news for someone. Apparently it turns whoever wears it into a snake after a while." Robin didn't want to be turned into snake monster. The thought was rather unappealing to say the least.
"I felt like the bracelet was calling to me. Thinking back on it, the entire thing was rather concerning." She paused for a moment and scratched her chin. "How long was I entranced by that thing? A few seconds? A minute? Longer even?" It couldn't have been that long, though she wanted to know. As she glanced between the men, she grabbed her sandwhich and took another bite.

That’s such a mood, 3 i’ll help get rid of homework and algebra —————
Relief washed over the Bengal shape-shifter the moment the bracelet was securely locked back into the box. If he could help it he wasn’t going to let it get back out, and even more importantly he wasn’t going to let it fall into the wrong hands here. The whole incident was showing him, though, that some of this stuff they were digging through could seriously pose a threat to them and their well-being. It was a bit stressful, thinking about that, but getting into something like this wasn’t going to be sunshine and rainbows all the time. It was just hitting Gifti a bit harder than it probably should that some things were going to be on the side of darker magic.
On the thought of objects, Gifti noticed when Sparrow shot him and Robin a look after glancing back toward the mirror he had dug up. ”I’d be careful, but I don’t think it’s like the bracelet.” Or, at least, he wasn’t getting the vibe that the mirror was dangerous for the twins. Maybe dangerous to him since it was made out of silver, but it seemed harmless as far as Gifti could tell.
Upon hearing that the bracelet could eventually turn somebody into a snake, Gifti stuck his tongue out in a display of distaste. ”Eh, snakes, I wouldn’t want to be turned into one.” He was completely fine as a cat. ”But maybe we can find somebody who can destroy it, or at least find a way to cleanse it if we have to keep it around.” He did briefly wonder if there even was a way for the band to be destroyed or have its curse undone if their grandmother had kept it rather than render it useless, but Gifti decided he would rather be optimistic about it and focus on the “we can” rather than the “what if”.
”I’d say you were out for a good three minutes or so,” the shape-shifter answered once Robin had asked her question. Her entrancement could have lasted much longer than it had, but even just the length of time it had gone had been enough to unsettle the shifter, and he couldn’t even imagine to understand just how unsettled Robin must feel from it. She had been the victim afterall.

Once again, Time was right. It was a very weird combination that even Arlo didn’t quite understand. She was glad that he hadn’t questioned her about why she’d chosen to come to a place like Echo Ridge without plans though. Maybe there would be a day when she felt comfortable explaining it all, when she actually knew how to explain it all, but not yet. As she watched Time start to walk further into town, she found herself hesitating, one hand twisting her locket on its long cord. She hoped she wasn’t making a mistake- either in following Time or maybe even in coming to Echo Ridge at all- but after one last glance toward where they’d heard the creature’s chilling howl she finally started after him. There really was no getting around the fact that she needed a place to stay, and honestly, though she’d been traveling alone for quite awhile and often told herself it was better that way, she did kind of like the idea of traveling with somebody else again for bit. Like she’d noticed earlier, the strange energy of the town made it feel sort of familiar to her and she had a feeling that eventually that same familiarity would bring to mind things she would prefer to keep herself distracted from. For Arlo, it had had always seemed easier to do that when others were around. Her own tiny smile returned at his compliment, just a bit more noticeable than the first time. “Thanks,” she replied softly. “Time’s pretty cool too.” Arlo- well, Catherine- considered asking if it was a nickname, and if so, if there was a story behind it, but chose against it. Instead, after a brief pause, she returned to the topic of finding somewhere to stay, removing a tattered, folded paper from her messenger bag. “I have a map, but it’s really old so I don’t know how useful it would be to us.” And it would probably be a bit hard to read with stopping by a street light. Just after reaching the end of her sentence she thought she heard another distant howl. Was it same creature that they’d heard before, or another one? She couldn’t really tell.

It had been a while since Time has really had anybody tagging along with him. He had interacted with a few people here and there through other towns he had stopped in on his journey, but he had never had somebody follow along with him in the pursuit of finding a place to stay. It wasn’t due to the fact that he wasn’t a social person or anything, he just didn’t exactly have the need for anybody else to be with him. There wasn’t a reason for it considering he wasn’t planning on staying in any one place for too long. The longest he had stayed somewhere had only been for five days, and after that time had run out he had went back to traveling until coming to the next town. Now that he was in Echo Ridge he planned on staying a little longer than he usually did - he felt like he had that bit of leeway for once - but that didn’t mean he was sticking around for good. He’d be here for a week at most. But between all the traveling and not sticking around for long, Time didn’t see reason for a buddy. He didn’t want to drag anybody else into the whole thing of why he had even left his home and the only way of life he had known.
As Catherine gave his name a compliment, the young man almost found himself telling her that most of his family had some...pretty interesting names, but he stopped himself from even getting the first word out. He had no idea just how much Catherine knew about other places outside of Echo Ridge. It was probably small, but the chance that she had heard about his family or even just knew of them was there, and Time didn’t want to risk cluing her in to who he was and who his family was. He felt certain he could get away with using his real first name, but his actual last name and the names of his family were a little different.
Time slowed down his pace when he heard Catherine mention having a nap. He looked over at her, head tilting ever so slightly to the side. ”It wouldn’t hurt to at least see if it helps. I kinda doubt this place has changed too much since the map was made.” Echo Ridge was modern and up to date from what Time had seen of it so far, but he couldn’t shake the vibe that it didn’t see a lot of change, either. Using a map, no matter how old, was worth a shot.
...And there was another howl. Distant still, and Time almost questioned if he had actually heard something or if his mind was playing tricks on him. Either way, it was a good reminder that they weren’t exactly as alone out here as they might think.
