They didn't deserve what happened to them.
That being said, they're an awful little group and Squirrelflight's constant blind defending of them really wore on me. To begin with, they just randomly kidnap Squirrelflight and Leafstar despite leaving no scent markers or other border boundaries to alert them that they're entering their territory. The fact that the Sisters imply this is normal behavior, kidnapping local cats to insure the good behavior of the locals, makes them come off like bullies who throw their weight around and are used to doing what they please.
When Leafstar just goes wandering around, one of them mauls her. We as readers know Leafstar was trying to find a way to escape, but the Sisters had no way of knowing that she wasn't just looking around and to maul her for that is a severe overreaction. What's worse is that they well could have killed her, since none of them know how to treat infection. Imagine if the wound had gotten infected? This reckless lack of care is a constant with them. The Sisters act as if everything will work out fine so long as they just use enough brute force. They almost seem shocked that the clans dislike them after they kidnapped a leader and deputy, something I found incredibly stupid. The brawl with the Shadowclan patrol also reeked of the Sisters swinging their weight around, crossing into another clan's territory and ordering warriors around while outnumbering them. That was a horrible way to handle the situation of them investigating.
Their treatment of the toms is awful too. Conditioning them to believe that they are old after merely becoming apprentice age is kind of nasty and booting them out regardless of whether they are ready or not is of course just not a good idea. People make jokes about the clans being cults, but the Sisters seem far more cult-like with their obligatory sexism in order to enforce the status quo.
Them refusing to move or yield until the very end was also, as Tree put it, a gesture of pure pride. There was no reason that they couldn't have moved their camp a bit further away in the month or so that the story takes place in, Moonlight's kitting wasn't THAT urgent. The clans were wrong to be so aggressive, but it was also a terrible and prideful move by Moonlight to refuse to move even when she knew it would cause things to go bad.
Overall, I will say however that I like the concept of the Sisters far more than something like the Tribe. The idea of a rogue group being self sufficient in their own way and with their own culture is a cool idea, and the fact that they aren't just sitting around ineffectually like the Tribe really makes them far more easy to read. However, I highly dislike that there isn't more criticism of them in the book. Only Tree is shown as a valid critic of their life style. You'd think the clan cats would bring up more arguments like that rather than tired rogue stereotypes.

I thought they were cool but I also agree with a lot of what Vectoring said. What they did to Leaf/Squirrel was Not a good first impression. But they were interesting and unique and it was cool to see their death-ceremony-thing for Flickerkit/Larksong, and they provided a cure for the meadow saffron.....so a mixed bag, like SqH itself
