Summary: Kikay the cheetah must survive on the hot, African plains with danger lurking around every bush or watering hole, but it's not just her whom she must keep alive. With three new cubs, she must do everything she can to ensure that they all make it out alive, even when poachers invade the grasslands.

Prologue
Dry, brown grass flew up in my wake with the sun beating down as hard as ever onto this barren savannah I called home. My target raced ahead of me, but only by mere strides. I was gaining quickly, my paws barely grazing the parched ground as I soared over the earth. It wouldn't be long now.
Within a few beats of my rapidly pulsing heart, my quarry fell and tumbled over the grasses from a swipe of my paw. I quickly overtook it and held it tight until the life left its body, its spirit ascending to the great, blue sky above. With a bow of my head, I thanked my Sky Spirits for the good prey, a plump gazelle, then tore into it.
I had to eat fast, faster than I ran it sometimes seemed. Cover was nowhere in sight, and what little was around simply was too far away to drag my food. I had to eat here, stuffing my face with delicious chunks of meet I barely chewed. I had to eat more vigorously now; I wasn't eating for just myself anymore.
Not even half had been eaten before a male lion strode over like he owned the whole moor. He knew that I didn't stand a chance in a fight or keeping my prey, but my belly was already fat and full. Thankfully, I had been able to eat enough before he came along.
I stood and trotted in the other direction, the sun hanging high in the sky and scorching everything below its mighty, burning glow. With it as my companion, I walked across the open grass land, wondering simply when my next meal would be.
As the sun made its way across the great blue, I laid down in the rock outcropping from which I had made my home. At least, it would be my home as long as a leopard didn't come to claim it as their own. that happened a lot, sadly.
Inside my belly, tiny things began to move, kicking at their warm enclosure. It wasn't long before a ripple of pain passed through me, and I knew exactly what it meant. It was time. luckily, I had had one other litter before, so I knew exactly what to do, but that wouldn't stop any predators from strolling by. For safety, I could only pray.
