I know Willowshine has a valid excuse to dislike Jayfeather, but their rivalry is really frustrating to read about. I'm on Long Shadows, and Willowshine was smug and bragged about having her own name out of spite because she didn't like him. I know Jayfeather snapped at her a few times, but she's really no better, herself. I don't remember if these two began to respect each other as they got older, but they're getting irritaring to read about.

I agree, also, considering the fact that Willowshine was almost apprentice aged before Jayfeather was even born, or maybe even before Leafpool got pregnant, having her own name before him isn't really something to brag about lol

She's one of my least favorite medicine cats because of that. I remember her treating him ugly several times throughout the series.

Agreed, but then again I don't like either of them much so that's granted lol. Honestly, makes me wonder why people still ship Willow x Jay and/or how it even came to be to begin with. I find Kestrel x Jay more tolerable.

Like, I remember a scene where she tried to help or something, I think, and he snapped at her First time they ever met, they were walking along, and there was a hole. Jay knew it was coming and kept walking, and then Willow grabbed him and pulled him aside so he wouldn't fall, but she gave him no warning whatsoever. He had no idea why he just suddenly got "attacked", and his fight or flight response kicked in (as it does when someone just grabs you for no discernible reason), and he threw a punch instinctively. He calmed down a second later, and Willow started crying that she was just trying to help, and Leafpool forced Jay to apologize. That set the tone for their entire future relationship. They both have valid reasons for disliking the other. Willow sees him as a rude, obnoxious asshole (of which she's not exactly wrong), and Jay sees her as a smug, condescending jerk who thinks she's superior (which has also been shown to be not exactly wrong). Honestly, I sort of like the dynamic between the two of them. It's not in your face throughout the series, it's at most twice per book, sometimes once or zero, and it makes the world feel a bit more real, to have these negative relationships but not trying-to-murder-each-other negative. I can see how it would be obnoxious, but I do like it. It's relatable in a way.

I forgot they had interactions at all actually, outside the initial one where it easily went sour, but no memories of any after that.

Imo, I think it's pretty petty that Willow is still hanging on to a type of ill-mannerism toward Jay for just telling her to leave him alone when they were apprentices. Like, her behavior comes off as snobbish, and it's annoying. Like I can understand holding a grudge over something much more serious? But this...it made me roll my eyes every time she opened her mouth.
