So, I'm not a big Pokemon Go fan. I've played the game, but, I just don't understand the big deal...
Look at it from my perspective: Your running around, fighting little animals, catching them in balls, and forcing them to do certain things. I don't see the craze or the point. Just watch Racist Mario (If your parents are OK with that type of video), they show a good example of Pokemon.
And if you want to say why it's somehow awesome, don't just say something like: "Cuz it's cool/awesome" or "Because (some random Pokemon that you likes name) is so sick/cute!" Give me an actual reason.
Plus, I've seen multiple people walk like zombies into the street playing Pokemon Go trying to catch something. Grow up. (And I mean that as stop walking into the street on your phones to catch Pokemon. You guys actually thought that I meant that as "Stop Having Fun!!!" ???????????)
This topic will get so much hate

I'm not a big fan, but I have to admit it was really cool when I was out in public and there were all these people with their phones out and like having conversations with complete strangers over the game.
but yeah people should be careful when they play xD

Wait, have you played a main series Pokemon game They explain that the Pokemon WANT to be with the trainer I mean one game says they could straight up leave if they wanted to I've only played Pokemon go and tried one other Pokemon on a friends device. But still, doesn't it get cramped in that ball?

There's lots of speculation on how the ball works. Personally, I think they're shrunk down and it has infinite space with lots of stuff.

Pokemon Go is not a good representation of or substitute for the main series games. It is merely a Pokemon-themed walking app and can hardly be considered a game. Also, I am so exhausted of people telling others to "grow up", not to mention comparing people on phones to zombies. Let us have fun.

It's the people unaware on there surroundings, walking out into the street to catch a Pokemon that are zombies. I'm on my phone a lot but nobody calls me a zombie because I'm just texting. If I was unwarily walking into a street on a phone, then that would a zombie.

I don't understand the big hype over it, but I did want to get it when it first came out. Unfortunately for me I don't have the right kind of phone. I think it's a little overrated, and the original games are definitely the best. But hey, if it gets nerds out and about, that's cool. I had a couple of friends who walked 4 miles playing that thing. As long as they're careful about it, it shouldn't be a problem c;

The rest of my post still stands, though.

The main games are way better. It's just the new thing. People are either not paying attention to their surroundings and getting hurt or acting high and mighty and think they're Pokemon masters when they haven't even played the real games. It's getting on my nerves.

Don't tell people to grow up just because they're having fun while playing a game.
A lot of people, teens/young adults, grew up playing pokemon when it first came out, and to be able to walk around and "catch" pokemon was probably a huge dream many kids had, including myself.
Of course, the app needs a lot of work, but there are constant reminders to pay attention to your surroundings, don't drive while playing the app etc etc.
The craze for the game had died down considerably in the last week. (I've been barely playing it because the changing catch rates are annoying as heck lmao.)

-it's gettng a lot more kids active and outside and exploring their local town through the hype of a single game, it's simple to use and acessable to almost everyone and has a universal age demographic so it's not just prompted kids to get active, but adults, teens, etc... which is genuinley healthy and solving a lot of the "fitness crisis"
-It brings a lot of attraction to local businesses and historic sites. Many people have experienced a growing boom in money revenue after the game was released. either having their business be a pokestop/gym or having one nearby. It has also brought back interest in a lot of historical places. people have experienced that not many people would come to their historic place anymore, have now found that a lot of kids will now come and willingly sit and have the people who own or take care of it tell them all about the history.
-collectively making community relevant again. like tbh we aren't going to lie. a lot of americans today do not experience a decent feeling of community without feeling unsafe or without the need of carrying a weopon bc everyone is a threat until proven not to be, which is clearing a lot of the stigma that people are not inherentley violent which is a big shared thing among american civilians
-a lot of kids and adults with mental disorders like anxiety and depression are using it as a coping tool because excersize helps boost happiness and wellness which is sometimes a life or death factor in a lot of patients with those disorders. a lot more i could list but basically, its a little more than just a game where you capture animals and fight them.

pokemon is probably my biggest special interest, but yet pokemon go is starting to feel old to me. i guess more things just need to be added for my interest to be caught again
but in concept it's great. it's encouraging people to go outside more. if anything, i've seen people chilling around pokestops outside, like at parks and stuff. businesses can use money to get pokestops at their location to encourage more customers — and it works. people have socialized for the sake of pokemon. just imagine when trading is added in

I don't really care for Pokemon Go. Isn't it just like playing the games in the DS/Gameboy versions? If I'm that desperate to play pokemon, I'll play Pokemon X, thanks. I don't need a video game to make me go outside. I go on walks without the game every day.
Sometimes I walk my dogs from Nintendogs, though, haha.

The description for the pokeball says it creates an luxorious environment for said pokemon. something like that I love Pokemon go because it's a smart and well thought out game, but they still seriously need to work on the battling mechanics. PLEASE NIANTIC MAKE IT TURN BASED LIKE THE ACTUAL GAMES.

i don't get pokemon go, mostly because i can't even play it. i downloaded it and played it for like five minutes, picked my starter, and that's all i could do because there was literally nothing to do. there were no pokemon or anything. the game sucks if you live in the middle of nowhere. so i deleted it and havent bothered since.

Erm... I'm quite grown up, but thanks for the suggestion.
I personally enjoy the game- but if you don't, it's cool, to each their own. The game sticks to some people, and it doesn't to others. Just like any other game.
Don't shoot me- I never understood the hype about Undertale- so I get it. But I'm totally fine with those who do- and that's their party, and I'm completely fine letting them party.

The Undertale hype died down around a month ago. Yeah- but when the hype was around, I thought it felt overhyped especially with my brother nagging me to play it every. single. day for about a month. I watched it on You Tube, and I just didn't understand it. So it reminds me of Pokemon Go in the sense that tons of people were talking about it yet not everyone wanted to go onto the "hype train". If that makes sense xD My whole post in general was about how I personally like it, but if other people don't, that's ok cause I've had experience of not getting hooked to popular games- so I understand.

I mean, it's just a fun game. You interact with others who share your interest, and there's actually some strategy that comes into play. It's challenging and immersive, and it really gets people to show their competitive side. Furthermore, the kids from when Pokemon first came out get to live their childhood dream--catching and training Pokemon in reality. And though there are the stupid people (not paying attention to their surroundings, taking the game far too seriously, etc.), the actually good and fun players overshadow the moronic ones.
Ultimately, just like whatever you like and we'll do the same. Don't tell people to grow up just because they're enjoying themselves.

Niantic actually bought the app from another gaming company that was using it for the same thing. To do this, they changed the stops to get the old game's items into Pokestops and essentially just remade the game into Pokemon-themed fun. As for me, I like it because yes, people who play it are often very friendly and you meet new people all the time. I have grown a bit tired or catching the same stuff over and over, but what I mainly stay for is the Gym battles, which are really intense when you travel with a group. Once a rare pokemon pops up, the whole 300+ people down at the lakefront of my town go nuts and it's really amusing, but I guess what I'm saying in general is just that they need to update it to include Pokemon trading and Trainer battles (not with gyms, I'm talking player vs. player) for me to be 100% on board with it. I'm a level 23 right now, and I'm not trying to lose any weight but I've lost about 4 lbs playing it and walking off 10k distance eggs where you essentially have to walk 10k in order to hatch some of them. I think it's more interesting since I travel with friends, but at the same time I agree that there's not much to it. It's been built up over the years while they were creating it, so when it came out all the people who've played the game were really excited, I think it was like an 8 year project of some sort. Along with that, the company actually paid this one dude to travel the world getting specific pokemon that were only located on certain continents, which sound really cool actually. Idk, I guess you'd just have to play the gameboy and ds games first in order to be really hyped about it.

Because that was also made by Niantic. The reason Pokemon Go was made is because one of the higher ups (can't remember who) at Game Freak liked Ingress, and so they contacted Niantic to get this game made, as they had made a similar game in the past.

Yeah, they are very similar games. As you said, the Pokestop data came from the Portal data in Ingress. At least most of it did. Some other bits of data came from Ingress too. I think Pokemon spawning data came from Ingress too. But Ingress and Go are made by the same company. So it makes sense, really.

Well, there's hype because honestly, everybody who grew up playing pokemon had that dream of being a pokemon trainer. And now it feels a lot more real when you can walk around your neighbourhood and find them. It's a way to put a more positive spin on getting up and actually going outside. You can meet other pokemon fans. It makes people feel included in something.
