Dingoleap ๐๐๐'๐'๐๐๐๐If Aliissa showed any sort of thanks to the odd woman for helping her out, she showed no sign of it. In fact, she passed the hunter with hardly a sideways look. If she felt like she should somehow repay the dept - that the woman and her daemon might now be in some sort of danger - than she didn't show that either. Instead, she passed Kas and the hunter and then was away around the corner where she could no longer be seen. It was from there at her cane hit against the stone until she'd counted to seventeen. It was only then that she stopped walking. "What are you doing?" asked Atun curiously. "Shh," said Aliissa softly, though the tone wasn't harsh. She closed her eyes and listened. Then she spun directly to the right. She took the street to the side, which she knew run along in the same direction that the hunter and the woman had been going. She paused for a second, halfway down and reached into a pocket. She pulled out an addition piece to her cane and placed it over the bottom of the thin piece of wood. When she set it against the road again, it no longer clicked. She listened again, trying to pay attention to where this inn might be. "Why are we following them?" asked the ibis daemon quietly, suspicion in the high pitched voice. "Because," murmured Aliissa. "I want to know what that ... man ... is planning. Particularly since he saw us." Her voice held an untapped fury that she hurriedly pushed down.

โWolves have an excellent sense of direction,โ Kas finds herself agreeing. The Hunter tries to be friendly, but thereโs something unsettling about his smile. Insincere, she thinks, although she takes care to keep it from her face. She shuffles her bag from one shoulder to the other and rubs one hand between her dรฆmonโs ears. Akela gives a contented rumble, but his pale yellow eyes stay narrowed. โTheyโre also terribly fierce.โ It makes herself feel safer, pointing it out.
Off to one side, the witch slips away. One of Akelaโs ears twitches, and Kassel knows heโll be tracking her movements. Somehow, she doesnโt think the witch will go too far - an intelligent person kept her friends close and her enemies closer. It was better to know exactly where the hunters were. It made it easier to avoid them, after all.
Content that no-one - including herself - would be imminently stabbed, Kas turns sideways and gestures down the alleyway. Experience has taught her never to turn her back on her enemies, after all. โJust down this way,โ she says. โ Itโs not far, and the food is decent.โ The thought of it sets her stomach rumbling. Her breakfast - all that buttery toast and thick-cut ham - seems a long time ago. Her mouth waters and beside her, Akela swipes his tongue around his jaws. She shouldnโt spend the coin, not until she finds another game to fill her pockets with, but she could probably scrape together enough for seconds.

[ Thatโs actually a super reasonable conclusion to jump to, haha And plotting sounds great! At the moment Kas is heading back to the tavern, against her will. Sheโs got a hunter following her, and thereโs a witch following the hunter. Any ideas for where we can go from here? ]

(Sounds like a plan I'm cool with! Okay, so, the general plot we had going was that there's the whole witch hunts. There were some subplots planned out though we were waiting to see if anyone would be interested in them. One was where a Hunter changes sides and starts working as a double agent to help protect the Witches. Then there might have also been a suggestion where the locals and/or local officials got involved. But what are all your ideas? What were some things you all would like to see happen or any ideas you might want to try out? )

(( Do you guys have any ideas as to who the turncoat should be? We'd love to hear it, ๐๐๐'๐'๐๐๐๐! I've Mihail who acts as a sort of smuggler or guide. He helps witches escape or get by in the city. Perhaps we could do something with that. Outside of that, I've Nadja who is a witch herself. I'm trying to figure out her place but was thinking that she could just be an undercover agent or something. Perhaps she's so desperate just to survive that she agrees to help hunters hunt her own kind? As to where you could go with Kas and (forgive me, I'm on mobile and can't look up the correct spelling of his name) the hunter, perhaps she could lead him to the tavern and he could try to convince her to be his guide around the city? She's in need of coin and he's in need of someone who knows the city well. Very reluctantly, she could agree somehow. After all, who could deny the will of the Magisterium? That'd stir some things up with the witches, her beliefs, and Mihail even if they ccross paths again. There'd be conflict all around. Perhaps Aliissa could overhear this agreement and decide to leave. She could run in with Mihail who decides to help her. They then later run into Kas and Aliissa reveals she's working for a hunter. Drama ensues. ))

text dump inc!
basically what i had was that his family had ties to the magisterium (regarding what said ties were, i havent actually thought of yet LMAO) but they claimed to be just a simple blacksmith family .. they discovered, and, took in a young witch and one day, alyosha had been away in town selling goods and came back to his house ransacked, family murdered, and witch missing. he was later adopted by a family friend who was a member of the magisterium, and joined the hunters after being manipulated into thinking that the one who murdered his family was the witch (thus stroking a blind bitterness towards witches) maybe somehow alyosha realizes that his thinking and views on witchkind is unhealthy + becomes the hunter double agent? but im not sure how to go about that :V
also that sounds super interesting al...... i think alyosha and mihail would have an interesting dynamic o:

He's aware that he doesn't have her trust, which is understandable. After all, only a fool would trust someone they just met, and from what Alyosha could discern about the mystery girl, she was far from a fool. Raising an eyebrow as the girl paused to motion towards the alley, he turned his gaze in that direction. It was dark, and a little damp. His blue eyes glanced at the girl, then back to the alley. He assumed that she wanted him to go first, probably because she was worried that he still had some ulterior motives. There was also a presence that was trailing them -- the witch, probably.
After a moment of thought, Alyosha simply stepped forward into the alleyway, his coat billowing with the moment. He wasn't worried about getting jumped by her; Alyosha doubted she would even try. If she did, he was confident in his reaction time to either disarm her or defend himself. And for the witch, he doubted they were working together to lead him into a trap. If they were, he was sure that they would've attacked him by now.
As they walked deeper into the alley, it suddenly occurred to the young man that he didn't know what her name was. He knew it was unlikely that she would give it to him, but it didn't hurt to ask. "I never got your name," Alyosha began, glancing over his shoulder with that selfsame smile on his face. "I'm Aleksei, but everyone just calls me Alyosha." He added, pushing back a lock of red hair behind his ear as he spoke. His hope was that by offering his name first, it would put her at enough ease to feel that she would give hers in return. And he had no reason to hide his name, anyways.
At the word 'food', Alyosha's stomach grumbled in protest, and the hunter pursed his lips in mild embarrassment. It had been a while since he had a real, hot meal, and it would be a lie to say he wasn't looking forward to getting something to eat. He's about to apologize for the mortifying sound before the his mouth shuts, the corners of his lips quirked upwards at the sound of the girl's stomach rumbling in tandem. Alyosha quickly moves his hand to clap over his mouth, trying to suppress a smile much more genuine than the one he had been giving from showing itself. "I suppose tough, fierce wolves get hungry as well." Alyosha's words are garbled from his hand, but his mirth is evident in his voice as he stares back at her, inwardly trying not to laugh. It wouldn't do him very much good if she changed her mind and decided to try to shank him for laughing at her.

[ That sounds like a really good idea, alfred ! And I definitely would love to Kas and Mihail to run into one another again - I get the sense that they have some unfinished business with one another. I think we could get a really good thing going with all our characters, and it would give us an opportunity to dive into Alyoshaโs past, ๐๐๐'๐'๐๐๐๐ !! ]] Should we have our three kids meet up at the tavern and go from there? ]]
Thereโs something about the manโs laughter that makes her feel slightly more at ease. And the fact that he offers his name helps, too. Kas gives a faint smile. She can hear his own stomach rumbling - it makes the hunter seem more human, rather than an instrument of the Magisterium. โIโm Kassel. Kas,โ she clarifies. Giving out her full name feels a little strange, and just a little daring, but it only seems fair. She knows his, after all.
She falls into step behind him as Alyosha starts down the alleyway. Heโs taller than she is, and Kas finds she has to lengthen her strides to the point of awkwardness in order to keep up. He makes a comment about being hungry - to try and put her at ease, she thinks - but the words are slurred by laughter. Their dรฆmons bound after them, careful to stay seperate from one another. Akela cuts between Kas and her companion, his tail arrow-straight behind him. โYes,โ she agrees. โWe get hungry. Quite a bit. I suppose hunters do as well, especially after youโve been travelling.โ
Kas tilts her head back and sniffs at the air. She knows she comes off as wild and wolfish, but old habits die hard and something in the air has changed. She doesnโt know if itโs the hunter or the witch or the weather, but something is different. She thinks briefly of Mihail and Liv, sheltered in their alley. For a brief moment, she wishes the smuggler was still at her side. Heโd know how to handle the hunter.
And the witch.
And the weather.
She sniffs at the air again. She thinks she can smell rain.

(I am up to speed once again!
Oh yes! This is a very good idea, I think. I like the ideas you put forth Alfred. And ใซใใฌ, perhaps a gradual shift for a view on witches could start to come about if Alyosha keeps being placed in situations where he can't actually do anything to the witches, but has to work with them to function within the city.
The hunters are new to the city and for some they might not have ever been to the city. We can make their time really ... interesting. Pickpockets leaving them with no money. Maybe one does something that might be acceptable outside of this city or country but is totally against the law in Oxford. Muggings, running out of food, having to sleep on the street. Some hunters might have it better if they've run into familiar faces, but some probably were very under prepared for a stay of any length of time. Some may have to interact positively with the witches and locals just to get their feet under them.
Same for the witches. Some are native. Others possibly have moved in to run from the hunters. There are locals who wont like that.
Also, I'm very fine with the role you've suggested for Aliissa. )

(( I love these ideas and think they could work themselves into the plot really well! I'm pretty much down with everything you guys have mentioned so far. To play off of Minted's idea, maybe Alyosha has been conned out of his money, possibly by Mihail even after their run in at the tavern? Though Kas is reluctantly helping him, he can only go so far without money so he calls on the help of his adoptive family?
Minted, did you want to keep Aliissa close so that she could run into Mihail after the tavern? Perhaps she catches him pickpocketing Alyosha and confronts him about it, wondering why he'd steal from a hunter? She reveals she's a witch and in need of a bit of help and Mihail agrees to help her? I think I've a way of introducing Nadja if you wanted to do it this way. ))

Aliissa hadn't been keeping close enough to hear. Far from it. She'd long ago outpaced any distance two people and their respective daemons could have covered. Instead, she was already heading for the back of the inn. She'd wanted to get here first. She was wary of the hunter, yes. But she was wary of Kas as well. She wasn't used to getting help from strangers. This was her town and she had her people, and Kas wasn't one of them. Still, she needed information. Was she being paranoid or had more hunters started turning up? Oh, there had probably always been the odd number, but you learned to avoid a handful here or there. They didn't have the weight here that they had in other places. But the more time Aliissa looked, the more she was sure that this new one wasn't from around here and neither were a lot of the others. That was concerning. She needed to be sure of what was going on. "I just think you're paranoid," said Atun into Aliissa's ear. Aliissa waited a beat by the back door of the inn, then murmured, "I really hope I am."
