(Here you are Dingoleap!) "Now what's this?" murmured Atun. It was such a good distraction that it was hard to pass up. Anything was better than Aliissa's fuming. Aliissa paused, looking down the path she had been taken, wary. She could have almost heard the floating, almost dangerous words, even though they had escaped her ears. She continued forward with a surge of moment, her cane hitting the cobbled street with a swift tap-tap-tap. It was only when she was further down the street that she spun in all directions, glancing around for where the voice had been. Someone? Hiding maybe? But no. No, she saw them now. "And?" she inquired sharply. "What are you looking at?"

(The main players are mostly wondering the streets right now! Nothing has happened so far, we're just getting started, so people are getting to know one another and the lay of the land. You can just toss your character into a street or a building of your choosing and another character can run into them. Mostly, the Hunters are working on getting the feeling of the town and aren't exactly used to it yet. Some are just arriving, others have been here for a couple weeks.)

[ Sorry for the late response, mintedstar/fur! Been super busy this weekend! Concert last night, then archery this morning! ]
The witchesโ tone was aggravating. It wasnโt that Kas had been staring - well, maybe she had, but she wasnโt about to admit it. Though she supposed that the watch had every right to be rude, it didnโt mean she found it particularly enjoyable. Sensing her annoyance, Akela flattened his ears in a clear sign of displeasure. โNothing,โ she shot back. โWhat are you looking at?โ
Not her best comeback, but Kas was growing tired of the interruptions.

Frustration writhing inside him like an uncoiled snake, the sound of the heels of his boots echoed behind him as Alyosha turned onto yet another unfamiliar street, slowly coming to a stop as his eyes slowly scanned the buildings around him. Nothing caught his eye as recognizable; to him, every one of these dreary buildings and streets looked exactly the same to him. He wasn't a resident of the town, though he had been here before. A year, or maybe two years ago, he had visited the city on hunter-related business, though it wasn't a very long stay. Alyosha had had the same problem then that he did now, being unable to figure out where he was and where he was going. Cities like Oxford tended to scramble his sense of direction, as if the buildings themselves were messing with his internal compass.
The feeling of something pressing against his legs shook him out of his brief reverie, and Alyosha glanced down to see a bundle of black against his legs and winding around his left leg. Loewe turned his gaze towards him, the fox daemon's red-brown eyes glittering with thinly veiled amusement. "Alyosha," his voice was chiding as he said his counterpart's name, and Loewe shook his head in exasperation.
"Hey, don't look at me like that." The man smiled broadly in return before crouching low, pulling off a single black glove to stroke Loewe's fur. The daemon pressed his muzzle against Alyosha's wrist until he pulled away, fixing his glove back onto his hand to sweep his gaze around them once more. "We're definitely not lost. I know where I'm going." In spite of the hunter's bold declaration, however, Alyosha didn't seem entirely confident in his ability to figure out where they were on his own. Perhaps he would finally give in and just do the logical thing and ask for the nearest tavern, but the perceived slight to his pride had him hesitating.

[ Iโll post something with a little more detail and we can all get started? ]
It takes the witch a long time to find her voice. Or perhaps it isnโt that long. Perhaps Kassel left her sense of time in the tavern. Regardless, the woman seemed nervous. She had good reason to be - she had no way of knowing that Kas wasnโt a hunter. She wouldnโt go so far as to say she wasnโt a threat - her wolf was trembling, anxious, at her side, and sheโd lived on the streets long enough to know how to be dangerous - but she had no intention of hurting the woman.
Akela hears the second set of footsteps long before he did. He turned, hackles up and teeth bared in the beginnings of a snarl. Whoever it was was behind them, effectively penning them in. โEars up,โ he warns. โSomeone else is coming.โ Akela never panics, but wariness edges his tone.
โWeโre alright,โ she murmurs, but she doesnโt feel alright. She wants to run, but sheโs caught between a witch and a stranger. She doesnโt know which way is safest. She hasnโt known which way is safest in a long time. Akelaโs nose twitches. She draws comfort from the fact that at least it isnโt one of the men from before. Her dรฆmon would have pointed it out if it was. The wolf grumbles and pressed closer. Heโs big and broad-shouldered and makes her feel safe. He always has, and Kas knows he always will. She sinks her fingers into the thick fur at his neck and draws courage from his strength.
โJust be ready,โ he murmurs.
Kas rolls her shoulders, stretches her tired muscles. Adrenaline is knocking once again, is chasing the exhaustion from her mind. โIโm always ready,โ she assures him. She thinks that maybe she should invest in a weapon. If the tension in the city keeps rising, it might be worth having.

Dingoleap ๐๐๐'๐'๐๐๐๐"Fine," said Aliissa, with a bit of a snap in her tone. Atun clucked a chiding note, but didn't actually say anything. Aliissa kept walking right past Kas, not even looking in her direction anymore, as if she had been wiped from existence. Atun flapped two broad wings until the daemon was perched on Aliissa's shoulder. The witch, for that was indeed what she was, did not wait for Kas to make some sort of comment which would just draw attention to either one of them. She might have made it completely down the street were it not for running directly into someone else. They'd just rounded the corner and she had been about to. She flinched back almost as soon as she ran into them, her cane landing on his foot (whoops) and Atun gave a loud exclamation, "What!" before Aliissa had backpedaled enough. With a firmer grip on the cane, she gaped at Alyosha before hurriedly saying, "Excuse!" Though whether she was trying to excuse herself or accuse him for being in her way, it wasn't clear.

The hunter hadn't detected the two when he had moved onto the side street, the multiple presences of the city-goers having masked them from him until one of them had ran into him, effectively startling him out of his thoughts. Alyosha's first reaction to being touched was to stiffen defensively, years of training as well as his own touch-aversion caused him to automatically respond with self-preservation. His now-alert senses quickly perceived something fast beginning to come down on his foot, though he didn't have enough time to pull his foot back. As Alyosha was preparing to reflexively strike out at who seemed to be attacking him, he realized that wasn't the case. Or, at least, that he wasn't getting purposefully attacked.
Alyosha restrained his reflex of self-preservation at this realization, allowing the cane to smack down into his foot as a sharp pain shot up his spine in response. A quiet, disgruntled sound left his mouth as he pulled his foot back, wincing a bit as he redistributed his weight back onto his foot. A vague sense of relief that he was wearing boots welled up inside of him as he looked up, quickly taking in his surroundings. The red-haired man noticed a girl he didn't recognize standing a little ways away with what he assumed was the girl's daemon, a wary-looking canine. His eyes then shifted from her to the girl who had bumped into him, quickly noting the bird on her shoulder. A witch, a bitter-sounding voice in the back of his mind hissed before he looked away from the feathered daemon, turning his gaze back on the girl herself.
Despite the feeling of revulsion that always seemed to writhe and twist in his gut at the mention of witches, an easy, nonchalant smile slipped onto his face. His foot still ached, but Alyosha wasn't going to hold it against her. Even if she was a witch, it was what he got for letting the bustle of the city interfere with his senses. "I'm used to cute girls bumping into me, but that still hurt, you know," Alyosha's smile had turned slightly sheepish as he spoke, his head tilting slightly to the side. Loewe had long disappeared from between his legs, having retreated to the shadow of a box to watch the incident unfold with keen red eyes.Dingoleap mintedstar/fur

Either the hunter was entirely oblivious, or he was exceptional at masking his reaction. Kas is too far away to say with any degree of certainty, but from the way Akela shifted restlessly beside her, she thinks it to be the latter. โWe should intervene,โ the wolf mutters. His pale yellow eyes are fixed on the hunterโs dรฆmon. The creature has distanced itself from the confrontation, ready to watch the entire thing unfold.
โThatโs illegal.โ She isnโt sure if sheโs holding him back or drawing comfort, but Kas rests her hand between Akelaโs shoulders and grabs a fistful of fur.
โSo are half the things we do on a weekly basis,โ Akela argues. Muscle shifts beneath Kasโs palm as he tenses. โNeed I remind you that if someone hadnโt intervened - at great risk to himself, I must add - we wouldnโt be standing here.โ
Kas can almost hear him telling her to intervene. To pay it forward. But the last thing she wants - the last thing she should do - is get between a hunter and his prey. The witch wasnโt particularly nice, either, and she certainly hadnโt asked for help. Guilt flashed, sudden and unexpected. Akela had a point, after all. She hadnโt asked for help, hadnโt through sheโd needed it, but only that morning a grumpy almost-stranger had saved her. Maybe she owed it to Mihail to intervene now. โI hate you sometimes,โ she mutters, but she doesnโt mean it.
Nervously, she jogs awkwardly forward. She isnโt sure what sheโs planning to do, but sheโll think of something. She is a master of the con, after all. โHi there,โ she calls in what she hopes is friendly tone. โYou look a little lost.โ She hopes that she isnโt misreading the situation, and thatโs the hunter is indeed lost, rather than looking for this specific witch.

Dingoleap ๐๐๐'๐'๐๐๐๐ Aliissa had been about to snap something about not being a pretty girl to him when Kas jogged over. The witch swallowed the words down and instead said with practice measures, "I did not intend to injure your foot." It sounded and could be seen as an apology. It was phrased in a manner which could even be heard as apologetic, just because it was true. Aliissa hadn't meant to injure or run into Alyosha, but the injure to his foot wasn't something she felt the need to directly apologize for. But her stature remained straight, though one knee had to be bent ever so slightly to compensate for her shorter right leg. It was only after this that she glanced at Kas. Inwardly, she was unsure whether she should be grateful or not. Alyosha had yet to be identified as a hunter in her mind, but that didn't make him an interest she wanted to attract regardless of that. Kas hadn't actually succeeded in any sort of 'rescue' attempt as of yet, so Aliissa just turned to look at Alyosha again and added, "If you'll excuse me." She nodded in the direction he had come from, intent on going past.

As the black-haired girl approached him, Alyosha shifted his ice-colored eyes from the witch towards her with a hint of intrigue in his body language, a hand coming up to cup his chin. Despite his affable, friendly smile and relaxed posture, there seemed to be something just underneath his exterior that was scrutinizing Kas. The hunter took in the way she approached him, noticing the girl's lack of a weapon, and her lack of outright hostility in general. Alyosha recognizes the tense way her shoulders are held, the wary gaze in her dรฆmon's eyes. He doubted that she was hiding a weapon on her- disguising a killing intent was something hunters had to be trained in, and there was no reason for her to attack him in public, either. After all, he hadn't done anything yet.
The most logical conclusion was that she was attempting to distract him from the witch. Even though he was a hunter, and in spite of his own feelings towards witches, Alyosha could see the nobility in the gesture. "I am, in fact, lost." Alyosha confessed after a moment of tense, taut silence, melting away some of the ice with a soft laugh. "Actually, make that very lost. I'm not a local, as you can tell. It's.. rather embarrassing." His hand moved from his chin to his cheek as he spoke, and he awkwardly glanced away as the sheepish look from earlier returned to his expression.
After a moment of what almost seemed like nervousness from Alyosha, the man suddenly perked up, a gleam settling in his cool-blue eyes as he looked back to Kas. "Oh, oh, I know. Would you be so kind to show me to the nearest tavern?" The red-haired man asked, his smile widening as he leaned forward and clasped his hands together in a pleading gesture. "Pleeeease? I would be really, really appreciate it. I'd be forever in your debt." Alyosha pressed, eyes sparkling.
He, of course, had not forgotten about the witch, and as the other girl spoke, he pulled back and turned his head to acknowledge her. "No harm, no foul." Alyosha replied in a cheery voice, and, as if Alyosha couldn't get any more unpredictable, the hunter moved back to allow the witch to walk past him. His posture was still relaxed, and both of his hands were visible to show that there was no apparent trickery up his sleeve. His dรฆemon, who had been locked in a staring contest with Akela, glanced their way before suddenly leaving his spot from behind the crate. Balancing ontop of the box, Loewe regarded the witch with narrowed, cold ruby eyes before Alyosha spoke again, gesturing towards the fox with a hand. "C'mon, Lo, don't be like that. Let the cute girl pass." If the fox could scowl, he surely would as he jumped off the crate and settled back into the dark spot he had been lying in before, eyes flashing from the darkness.

[ Sorry for the late response! Work sent me on an adventure today, so I had to stay a bit late. Also, Iโm not sure if Iโll be able to be on over the next few days. Iโm going to Comic-Con tomorrow - HECK YEAH - and then the day after Iโm flying home to see my brother and celebrate his 18th birthday, so Iโm going to be really busy for the next 48 hours. ]
The request to go to a tavern, of all places, had a chill crawling down Kasโs spine. โThere are many taverns here in Oxford,โ she stammers, aware that she sounds like an idiot. โFor the nearest, follow this alleyway and then turn left.โ Sheโs aware that the hunter asked her to lead him there, but she wonโt go back. Not yet, not when it was entirely possible people would still be waiting for her. She gives a hard smile. Sheโs not in the food for faking softness. The hunter is worryingly intense - Kas doesnโt know who heโs trying to fool. At her side, Akela makes an unpleasant noise. The hunterโs fox dรฆmon is smaller than her wolf, but the canines stand nose to nose, unintimidated by one another.
If it comes to a fight, sheโs hopelessly outnumbered. Akela can hold his own in a scrap - he has size on his side - but Kas knows she wonโt last five minutes against a trained hunter. She has her knife, tucked safely into her boot, but this is a trained hunter. Even though he seems to be unarmed (although if thereโs one thing Kas has learned, itโs that no-one on the streets goes anywhere without a weapon) she doesnโt trust him. The manโs dรฆmon is a fox, after all. Theyโre shifty-eyed and cunning.
Vaguely, Kassel is aware of the witch, attempting to slide by unnoticed. Her cane makes it awkward, but she seems to manage. Because she doesnโt know what else she can do, Kas inclines her head over her shoulder. โI suppose I could take you there,โ she says reluctantly. She can take him to the back door, she supposed, and leave him there. The sooner she gets him there, the sooner she can leave - the sooner than she can get some god-damned sleep.
โAkela,โ she calls. โCome on.โ
Her wolf is reluctant to step away, but he does. He turns, his ears flat against his head and his shoulders hunched. โAs long as we can get some breakfast - lunch? - after this,โ he says dryly.
Maybe, Kas thinks bitterly, having a hunter in her debt means heโll offer to buy her food. Lots and lots of food. And maybe a bigger knife.

((It's all good, Dingo. Take your time and have fun! I've honestly always wanted to go to Comic-Con. You'll have to tell us how it was! And thank you, Mint. ^^ Things are doing a lot better now. This here is just an update on mah boi. I'll probably put another character together sometime tonight. )) Mihail Fiora Enache & Liv ||
Stood around his shoulders, Liv bobbed her head as she starred at the passing crowd, getting a read of it before they tried to enter. "I'd say that went rather smoothly." As she spoke, she lept off his shoulders onto a nearby barrel. Perched atop it, she could get a better look at his face. And a face it was, all screwed up and confused, full of relief and yet so tense. "Mihail," she paused, waiting for him to look at her. "Mihail, that did go well, right?"
Mihail pursed his lips into a thin and reassuring grin and nodded his head once. "It went fine." Coming up to her, he sat on a crate closer to the ground and held his head. "It went swimmingly," he said mid-yawn.
Liv crawled to the edge of the barrel, holding her head close to her forepaws as she looked at him. "Mm," she agreed. Sat still for a second, she simply watched him as he rubbed at his eyes tiredly. She could feel the same energy seeping through her bones. The night they'd spent sleeping in the alley had done their bodies no good. Nonetheless, they'd work to do if they wanted a meal towards the end of the day. "So, if business is business and we've nothing to worry about, what do you feel would be the best play for today, hm?"
Mihail looked up only to glare at her, her snide remark making him all the more conscious of Kas and his conversation. With a sigh, he tried to brush it off and folded his hands in front of him. "Nothing too spectacular," He started, "I'm not in the mood."
Liv nodded. "Understood. Distract and grab it is." She sat down to rest before their day began, casting wary glances back at the tavern. "You think she'll be okay?"
Mihail hugged his frame tight and eyed the passersby. "She'll manage... We all do."

Sensing her apprehension, the red-haired man turned his gaze back to her with a small smile, trying to get a sense for her hesitation. Was it because she knew he was a hunter, and thought he would attack her? Perhaps, but Alyosha wasn't the type of person to go on the broad offensive. He preferred to take things at his own pace, scope things out and attempt to earn at least a quarter of the local's trust. Sure, Oxford was a big city, but he was sure he would run into that witch again, and under terms that would benefit him. Not to mention the fact he was already worn out and not in the mood for a fight, and what the Church didn't know wouldn't hurt them.
Or, maybe her extra air of distrust had to do with the fact that he had a fox dรฆmon. Alyosha was no stranger to the occasional look of distaste thrown his way for the shape his dรฆmon took, and Alyosha supposed it was natural to feel this way towards him. After all, Loewe was supposed to be his inner self, so didn't that mean Alyosha must be a conniving, charming carnivore himself? And in some way, it was true. Alyosha wasn't one to disappointment others, and if that's what others expected of him, that's what he would show him. It worked in his favor anyway, keeping everyone at a safe, comfortable distance.
Following on the girl's heels and distinctly aware of Loewe trailing after them at a distance, Alyosha decided to attempt at small-talk with her. "I'm really grateful you could show me the way," He said as he rubbed the back of his head awkwardly and rolled his shoulders to relieve some of the tension in his muscles. "I probably would've gotten lost again, even with your directions. It's unfortunate I wasn't born a bat. I hear bats have an excellent sense of direction." Alyosha added in a cheery voice, as if he was completely unaware of her and Akela's earlier hostility and they were nothing but good friends. "I hear wolves have a good sense of direction, too. I'm a little jealous."
