I have a soft spot for ThunderClan, so Bristlefrost. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/6575102/images/lNtnPuxeCzkaKMNYVXVv.gif) I also liked how she saved Rootpaw.

I actually like all the protagonists this time, but I'm going with Shadowpaw, not only were his chapters the most interesting, but he also seems like a nicer cat in general than the other two

Shadowpaw because I love reading another WILLING medicine cat's PoV after years of not doing so. Also his internal plight is very interesting and his chapters are the most story heavy as well, so unlike Bristle and Roots which are lighter in a sense, Shadowpaw's has the stuff relevant to the plot.

That makes sense, but he is kind of too generic for me. At least it was a smart move on the Erins part to have the bland character get most of the plot. It balances it out between Shadowpaw and the other two more "extreme" personalities.

Yeah, poor guy, I hope he doesn't let all that get him down, and I hope he's able to stay as positive as he can despite the circumstances. I wouldn't want to read another Jayfeather-esque POV

In terms of chapters, Shadowpaw because I like medicine cats, and Bristlefrost because I like ThunderClan. Rootpaw is neither of those, so I get bored/annoyed pretty quickly.
In terms of personality, Shadowpaw and Rootpaw, but not Bristlefrost. She gets on my nerves, not to the extent past characters have, but still.
So it looks like Shadowpaw for me.

Lol Eh, some characters I just don't really click with. Bluestar is another one, as is Dovewing. It's not because of anything they did or didn't do, I just don't personally click with them, y'know? No, I actually really liked that whole subplot. It was wonderful. XD

Shadowpaw honestly. Rootpaw was alright but he did annoy me several parts in the book (which made it harder to read through his chapters) and honestly, at this current moment Bristlefrost really doesn't need to be a POV. That might change in the future, but she was really just there and irrelevant to the story in this first book, but we'll see if that changes in TST or VOS. I don't really care for Bristle much at this moment and I'm neutral bordering on dislike for Root, while Shadowpaw is the only one who I genuinely like so far (the others I'm on the fence about).
It might change with the release of book 2, seeing as Rootpaw will most likely get more development in that book if the ending didn't create so much of an obvious plot point within the arc, specifically involving Rootpaw. I will say that so far, Rootpaw and Bristlefrost are being handled well.

bristlefrost! i’m always going to have a lady bias.
i will say though, the broken code is off to a strong start! i’m already invested in all three which is something i couldn’t say for the first books of any other arc.

I like Shadowpaw the most cause his POV seems like the only one where plots are being driven. Also I just overall love medicine cat POVs. Bristlefrost’s POV is also cute, her crush on Stemleaf is adorable and relatable, sadly after Stemleaf rejected here there weren’t too much going on in her chapters. I hope Rootpaw becomes more involved in the story in Silent Thaw, I do like him but tbh I kinda forgot about him in the second half of Lost Stars.

Bristlefrost is my favorite of the three. Her chapters feel realistic and down to earth, and it was nice seeing how she went through so many emotions. She's not just suffocated by prophecy plot, so we get to know more about her. She's brave, and would help any cat in need. She gets embarrassed easily and tries to hide it sometimes. And she's a romantic dork who has a bunch of hopes and dreams but also can be crushed and rejected just like any person could. I like how she developed past her feelings and accepts things when she has to, and continues to develop to be a good character. I'm happy that Erins established her so well so far. I wonder how she'll be when she observes the changes of Bramblestar over time. Will she work together with Rootpaw to figure this all out? I kinda like the idea of this, and them trying to save Bramblestar and stopping the fake one.
Rootpaw at second. He's also somewhat relatable, but also bound to the paranormal. He's like a perfect balance, in between realistic and mysterious potential. I like how he's shown to struggle with fitting into his own clan. He tries to win the respect of others, but it usually fails because of who he is, and where his bloodline comes from. He's trying to find acceptance among his own clanmates. However he ends up being saved by Bristlefrost and most likely develops feelings for her, without even realizing it himself. He's probably happy because she treated her so different than the rest of his clan, and to her, he's not in his father's shadow. It's probably refreshing for him. But what I'm also interested in, is his connection to ghost!Bramblestar. I hope they have a "ghost whisperer" moment where Bramblestar asks him for help, and they solve the whole mystery together, on how to get his body back. It would be an unlikely team up, but a good recipe for plot. Also an opportunity for him to embrace his family bloodline and powers more, maybe mending his relationship with Tree?
I could care less about Shadowpaw. Where as both Rootpaw and Bristlefrost have relatable qualities, Shadowpaw doesn't come off as the same way. He seems very bizarre and out of the qualms of what is considered a quality character. So far his character isn't really built much on his own, it's just pretty much surrounding he whole prophecy thing, and the voice in is head. And how he's naive enough to listen to the said unknown voice, which leads to Bramblestar dying at some point. Honestly, I don't really care for him, because as of right now, he's no this own character, he's just some mouth piece for the voice. It's disappointing. And the only thing I find interesting about him, is indeed the voice, in hopes that it actually is or was Ashfur. It doesn't help that his moments in ShadowClan were also unbearable and annoying, especially because of the aftermath. I just really don't find interest in an incompetent naive character like him so far.

Rootpaw. I love his insecure "I hate my dad and why am I so weird" personality. He obviously likes Bristle but also has no clue what hes doing. Bristle, Shadow and Needlepaw seem to be his only friends which is sad but fits his personality. His family dynamic is also really fresh.
