Minor spoilers.
I know that not everyone agrees with Tall x Jake but like, seriously. I think it's so heavily implied in this book that I'm sure the editors/writers did it on purpose. I know Jake calls Talltail his "best friend" at one point, but then I got to this... "Grass, greener than Jakeโs eyes, lay in swathes between the bushes, its scent so rich it made Talltail dizzy." Like c'mon! that's such a specific description! lol
also, in the beginning, when
Talltail thinks of what might happen if Jake decides to go back home to his owner, he always feels bad/gets sharp pangs in his chest/becomes heavily disappointed. And this is after only knowing Jake for a day or two. Granted, Tall was probably lonely and secretly wanted company on his quest, so that might be most of it, but still...

If either Tall or Jake was a girl TallxJake would be canon and that's a fact

lol, the scene where the split up so they can go back to their homes sounds like lovers seeing each other for the last time

I think Kate has stated she's always seen them as mates and even said that Tallstar never took a mate because his heart "belongs to Jake". But the publisher, in their natural homophobic fashion, says they're just good friends. I think Kate tried to make them seem as much as mates as possible without saying it outright so It'll fly a bit under the radar.

OMG OMG OMG I DIDN'T THINK IT COULD GET MORE OBVIOUS lmao " 'Every cat I have knownโ' He paused as Jake filled his thoughts. He pictured his old friendโs green eyes glowing with pride. 'Every cat I have loved has taught me the meaning of friendship and the unbending power of the warrior code.' โ

The spoiler warnings aren't really necessary since the book has been out since 2013 and that really only applies for new books. Also, a good portion of the fandom actually already agrees that Tallstar and Jake were more than friends. I don't really ship them myself, but I do see the appeal.

Honestly? I'm more surprised by the fact that Reena x Shrew didn't happen tbh? Tall x Jake felt super obvious to me, and Reena x Shrew, so to see Reena suddenly have feelings for Talltail out of nowhere felt strange?? Cause after what happened they kinda didn't talk at all and Reena spent more time with Shrewclaw. Romance in warriors is sometimes very baffling, because pairings are obvious but the Erins are so wishy-washy on whether going through with it or not.

Potentially unpopular opinion ahead:
Okay, so I think most people on these forums live in countries where there has been huge advancements for LGBT+ people both on the legal and social front. Explicit representation is really good for LGBT+ readers who don't have to read between the lines to find people like them. We (rightfully) want and expect more explicit representation.
But.
Warriors is also sold in countries where there have not been such advancements for LGBT+ people. We've all oohed and aahed over the Chinese covers, for example. And there are readers in those countries who will never see an LGBT+ character on screen or on page, and if they do, the character will inevitably face doom as a result of their sexuality/gender. Harper Collins/Working Partners is never going to allow their cash-cow to minimise its market in any way, so sneaking these relationships into the series, like TallJake and RavenBarley, is the only option the Erins have, and is potentially the only representation that LGBT+ kids will see in those countries, or even LGBT+ kids of homophobic parents in western countries.
Basically, massive props to the Erins for finding a way to bring in LGBT+ relationships even with the restrictions being placed on them by the editors and/or publishers. I'm sure there are a lot of kids out there who appreciate it immensely.

Maybe I thought that it was because I have most of my fandom interactions on tumblr. I've seen a lot of people insisting that the TallJake kind of representation isn't enough, without any mind for the people out there who can only get the TallJake representation. The Harry Potter fandom is pretty big on that front, forgetting that society's attitude towards LGBT+ people was very different in 2007 and that's likely why JKR wasn't explicit on Dumbledore's sexuality. I've seen similar sentiments in the Warriors fandom, too, saying that the Erins, and the Erins specifically, are cowards for not going all the way with LGBT+ representation.
