Welcome
You stagger onto the sandy, rock-strewn beach. The storm swept you out to sea and you washed ashore on these strange islands.
Exhausted, you pull yourself above the waterline and fall asleep.
When you dream, you are visited by a sleek grey tom and a rangy red wolf. Neither of them are attacking - in fact, they are both smiling down at you with kindness in their eyes. The tom crouches next to you. "You have come home," he murmurs, and you feel a sense of peace settle deep in your bones. You rise to your feet, trembling just slightly.
Now the wolf speaks. Her voice is low and rough, tinged with an accent you can't quite place. "There is safety on this land," she tells you. "Trouble no one, and you will be welcomed in return. This is WaveClan territory, child, and the waves have brought you here."
≋
WaveClan claims dominion over four islands in the middle of a bay, created moons upon moons ago when a twoleg dam broke during a storm, flooding the valley that used to be there. The camp is located on the second largest of the islands, protected by the mountains themselves and tall, woven walls of bramble and thorn. On the coasts of the bay are the Twoleg settlements that have recently sprung up - but the Mooncave is also there, and healers make the journey to speak with their warrior ancestors every half-moon. With swimming so vital to the WaveClan way of life, the greatest danger to WaveClan is the sharks that live in the bay waters, although the Twolegs that visit the island still pose a threat.

History
Uncountable moons ago, wolves and cats lived on opposite sides of a small mountain range. Rarely did they meet, but when they did, they fought viciously. The wolves lived on the north side of the mountain, in the great old forest, and called themselves the Clan of Howling Pines. The cats lived on the south side of the mountain, in the rugged plains and scrub-land, and called themselves the Moor Tribe. Uneasy truces were interrupted by violent clashes, and so the cycle went on and on - until the storm.
The ocean that lay to the west of the mountains, constrained by a massive twoleg structure, rose up in a fury, crashing down upon both cats and wolves alike, ripping up the ancient trees and gouging furrows in the earth. Vicious winds tore away all shelter in the valley where the cats and wolves huddled, old feuds forgotten in the face of elemental violence, and many of their kin were swept out to sea and drowned.
When the storm broke, the waters remained, swirling around the mountains that had once divided their territories. Only the tops of the mountains were visible above the waterline - the entire valley had been flooded, hemmed in by a taller mountain range that had once been further inland, that now made up the coast. With their numbers decimated by the event, the wolves and the cats set aside their ancient quarrels for the sake of survival, working together to rebuild their lives. The wolf leader had died in the flood, so the leader of the Moor Tribe - Smokestar - became the first leader of the new united clan after a sign from StarClan. She appointed the old wolf leader's deputy - Redfoot - as her own and, together, they raised WaveClan from the ruins, naming their new home for the disaster that shaped it.

Territory
Camp - WaveClan camp is nestled at the base of Robinstar's Peak, next to one of the rivers that flows into the bay. The camp itself is surrounded by pine trees and protected by walls of thorny brambles. The leader makes announcements from Highstones, a boulder formation in the middle of camp, and makes their den beneath it. The nursery, elder's den, and healer's den are built into the mountainous north walls of the camp, the most protected area, while the warriors and apprentices bed down in dens of bracken and moss woven around the perimeter.
Robinstar's Peak - Named for the fourth leader of WaveClan, Robinstar's Peak is the tallest peak in WaveClan territory. From here, patrols can survey the other islands without having to swim through the rough ocean waters.
The Warrens - A series of hills on the south end of the island, riddled with rodent burrows. It is a popular hunting ground, especially for cats seeking some isolation without having to rely on their wolf partners to reach the other islands.
≋
Pawprint Island - The largest island in WaveClan territory, home to the large prey that is often hunted by the wolves. Both ends of the island are rocky and craggy, but the center is largely flat, creating a small valley where most of the large game can be found.
Hunter's Beach - The best landing site on Pawprint island and a popular hangout spot, especially for wolves and the cats who swim over with them. The sandy shores are warm and comfortable and the scenery is gorgeous. However, it is also popular with Twolegs during greenleaf. There is also a temporary camp set up in a sheltered alcove.
Deer Clearing - The primary hunting spot on Pawprint Island. The native deer frequent the area and are the favored prey of many wolves.
River Tunnels - A system of tunnels carved into the mountainsides on the far south side of Pawprint Island. Rivers run through the tunnels, giving them their name. Some fish can be found here year-round, making it a somewhat sparse but reliable source of food for the clan. However, the tunnels themselves are very complex and more than one apprentice has been lost within them. There are rumors of secrets hidden within these tunnels, set down by StarClan generations ago, but nobody has ever found them.
≋
Sun Tree - A tiny island in the middle of the bay that is entirely barren except for a single dead tree that towers above all other trees.
Rabbit Island - A small, hilly island populated mostly by rabbits. The only place that both wolves and cats can agree is good hunting.
Moon Cave - A small cave on the mainland, near the Farm, housing a pure white crystal. New leaders go here to receive their nine lives from StarClan and the healers visit every half moon.
≋
Twolegplace - A small city on the western coast of the bay where most Twolegs live, along with their dogs and kittypets.
The Farm - A farm on the northern coast of the bay where a family of Twolegs live along with several types of livestock and pet dogs. They are relatively harmless unless you happen to cross their lands while visiting the Mooncave.

Traditions
Due largely in part to WaveClan's unique history, they have evolved several unique traditions, mostly surrounding rites of passage for young wolves and cats.
First, when apprentices finish their first moons of training, cats and wolves are partnered up as swim partners to allow them to move freely between the islands without the need for a full patrol. It's common for the cat to ride on the back of the wolf while the wolf swims and for the cat to warn the wolf of any threats in the water. There is no official ceremony for this assignment, and it is left entirely up to the mentors.
Second, WaveClan has two deputies - one wolf and one cat. When the leader dies, the more senior deputy becomes the next leader. However, the designation of "senior" has been hotly debated in the past and sometimes StarClan will send a sign favoring the younger/less experienced deputy for succession, causing strife in the ranks.
Third, it is not uncommon for wolves to mate with the dogs of twolegs who visit the island during the greenleaf months. The practice is not encouraged, but it is permitted. For cats, mating outside the clan is more strictly prohibited, mostly due to the lack of non-Clan cats in WaveClan territory.
Fourth, the clan organizes a big hunting expedition to Pawprint Island every half-moon. A party of wolves is chosen to swim over Pawprint Island with their cat companions. While the cats hunt in the island's woods (and the more adventurous venture into the River Tunnels) the wolves work as a pack to bring down one of the island's deer. The hunt can take multiple days, but when it's over, the part brings back their prizes to the clan and
Aside from those exceptions, WaveClan's traditions follow the norm - new warriors hold vigil through the night, kits and cubs are made apprentices at six moons (although kits and cubs do not have a suffix until their apprentice ceremony, where they take the suffix -paw until their warrior ceremony), and healers visit StarClan every half-moon.

3. Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan and for its life.
4. A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.
5. Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.
6. A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.
7. When the leader dies, the more senior deputy shall succeed them.
8. After the death, retirement, promotion (to a leader status), or exile of a deputy, the new deputy must be chosen by the next full moon.
9. Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassers.
10 No warrior can neglect a kit or cub in pain or danger.
11. The word of the Clan leader is the warrior code.
12. An honorable warrior does not need to kill others to win their battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or if it is necessary for self-defense.
13. There are two healers - one cat and one wolf.
14. All clan members are equal in the eyes of StarClan.

Rules
~ This is a semi-literate clan - please try to avoid one-liners and include some description in your posts so others have something to work with.
~ IC drama is great, as long as it does not belittle or sideline the main plot. OOC drama is not great, please separate the two.
~ Related to above - if you want to start IC drama, post on the plotting page or DM SmugGull about it.
~ Be kind and respectful to your fellow roleplayers.
~ Forum rules are my rules, that goes for profanity too. Additionally, please do not RP out mating/birthing scenes.
~ Please be active! Three weeks of inactivity (two weeks for key positions) will get your cats removed unless you let me know ahead of time. This helps us avoid needing large recaps. If you've read the rules so far, put 'sharkbait' in the 'other' section of your joining form.
~ Nobody's perfect, and that includes characters - which means no Mary-Sues. Your characters must have at least one flaw that keeps them from being good at everything and adored by everybody. A good way to do this is turn a strength into a weakness - for example, a cautious character might miss important opportunities or be perceived as cowardly.
~ Nonbinary and trans characters are welcome here. Hateful and bigoted speech or activity is not.
~ Please keep your characters realistic - pelt and eye colors must be within the realm of possibility. Wolves may have some patterns from domestic dogs, such as merle, brindling, or white spotting, but please use your best judgement. If you're uncertain, just ask!
~ Every two weeks, the RP will jump forward one moon.
