For a while I have been wanting to make an rp based on Stranger Things' elements. I've always been a fan of coming-of-age adventure stories, not to mention sci-fi and monster stories.
So I'm pretty flexible as to what we want the rp to be. It could be more slice of life, or more sci-fi heavy with monster hunts and otherworldly abilities. If you're interested or have any ideas, feel free to join in!

YO I love stranger things except I have only watched the first season lmao I would be down to help u brainstorm a bit! Would it be designed for kid characters or a certain age range you had in mind?

The first season is the best, imo! Sweet! I definitely had a kid age range in mind personally, like 11-14, but there could be older or adult characters too. I'm flexible to what people would be the most interested in roleplaying.

Sweet! Sounds good so were you thinking it would be v similar to the show with supernatural elements and crime solving or just loosely based? And as a group rp, would it be of the format with certain character tropes to fill or more of a make your own? I guess I'm wondering how much creative liberty you want to grant, if you have any idea as of right now. Also sorry for day-long poof I been busy but now I'm anticipating more free time if I don't shirk my responsibilities again lmao

Genre wise, it would definitely be very similar to the show, but I'm thinking of going with more loosely based other than that. So while the supernatural and mystery elements might be similar, that would be the main connecting factor. I had a few loose plot prompts I wrote down a while ago we could work with, I just have to dig it up out of my Google docs lol
I was thinking of giving people relative freedom when it comes to characters, although now that you mention it, it might be a good idea to give very open-ended roles people could claim. Of course the main kid cast could be open for complete creative freedom, but based on the plot we make there may be a need for more specific adult roles people could claim. It would probably work best as a small group rp, probably 6 members maximum, and they could take multiple roles from there.

Okay i swear i responded to you in my head but I guess not irl lmao
That all makes sense what you said. If you've got some plots I'd love to hear them! I might have a few character arcs we can include, but they're not quite plots in and of themselves if you wanna hear em
Roles would be good but leaving them more open ended than not is always a plus to me bc some small groups role plays have tropes that are so specific it's almost boring bc there's no individual input by the person who claims the role ya know

Yeah, I definitely agree. I prefer that everyone gets to have the freedom to make whatever character they want. It makes things more dynamic and interesting! I'd love to hear your character arc ideas!
I dug up my old list, and I'm surprised that most of these concepts still hold up for me lol- These are not developed yet, so we can change things around or combine any ones that would be interesting. The ones that sound like they could work are:
- In the suburban outskirts of a city, and around a rich, rocky terrain that is abundant with mining and construction and nothing else, work is hard and grueling for adults. Recently, resources seem to be running dry and new developments to keep the economy up are more than needed. The city planners have recently bought possibly resource-rich land that had once been stubbornly guarded from purchase for years by the family that lived there, but since the tragic passing of the familyโs only son, they have given up the fight completely. New houses are being built, new stores, and most notably, a brand new shopping mall. However, the locals are determined to keep things the same for the sake of their jobs, so they turn to digging deeper into the quarry by familyโs old house. But when a collection of tunnels is unearthed in the quarry, workers are disappearing, nobody seems to want to talk about it. Enter the main characters, where they go explore the tunnels of the quarry while it is closed off on a dare, and they will soon discover that, much like the winding cavities within the once-buried rock, things are much deeper and darker than they seem. (Time period: 80s-90s) Probably more of a monster or ghost-hunting based plot unless we form any other ideas behind it.
- A young venturing crew is taken on their first camping trip since the formation of the troop. Itโs time for the kids to put their survival skills to the test! All seems well, until their van cuts out completely before they even get to the site, leaving them stranded along a road next to miles and miles of marshes and swamp in Massachusetts. The troop leader decides that this is the perfect opportunity to let them try out their survival and hiking skills, so they set out to walk to the nearest town. However, very quickly, the troop is starting to see more and more strange things in the distance of the swamp. (Any time period) This one would be more extraterrestrial - it takes place in the Bridgewater Triangle, a hotspot for supernatural events.
- The main characters love nothing more than to mess around on the CB radio that one of the kids own, listen in on people talk (and sometimes talk to people, too. Even when it gets them in trouble when they try to mess with truck drivers). However, on one particular day, they get in contact with seemingly another local kid messing around on their own radio, but this idea changes very quickly. One: it sounds like they are in trouble, and two: they apparently live several states over, far out of the range that the radio should be reaching. (Time period: 80s) This one would be more on the sci-fi/crime side. Maybe featuring lab experiments and telekinesis, plus road trips.
- Just outside of New York City, the main characters find themselves fascinated by some mysterious teenagers who just showed up around town one day. They get themselves over their heads, however, when they learn that the teenager(s) are hiding from some agents, and now they are involved and in danger. Who are they? And will they ever be safe again, after they get involved? (Any time period) Also featuring sci-fi/crime, plus action and suspense.

Okay first off I absolutely adore the first one can we build on that one mainly??? It's kickstarting my muse already for more possibilities since I've been wanting to do something similar with mining tunnels but didnt have a plot for it omg yours is beautiful for this I think we could totally incorporate the third one as well tho bc its smaller? Like it can be part of the story but not the main focus, we just throw it in at some point? Also kind of unrelated but I love the name Bridgewater for the town even tho it's part of the second plot lol
As soon as I can get on my computer tomorrow I will type up my ideas! Probably wont be til later in the afternoon but I'm excited for this already! Get ready for a storm of brains lmao

Yeah, that one is definitely my favorite, so I'm more than down to use that one! I think we could totally name the town Bridgewater, it actually is a town in Massachusetts, but it could be a fictionalized one for our purposes lol
I'm looking forward to hearing what ideas you have!! I agree that the third plot could be incorporated later somehow, that could be cool. x)

sorry this is late, i was at a friend's house last night actually watching the second season of stranger things lmao we only got through episode five though but anyway here they are! just loose ideas we can use for character tropes/storylines/whatever we want. names in quotations are just placeholders so i can find them in my docs, they're not set in stone. can use some or all or none lmao idc ~ "fallen from grace" - this character WAS star athlete in school. also got good grades. had great friends and a girlfriend, then freak accident his senior year leaves him injured (the extent of which is undecided, but at a minimum is debilitating enough that he can no longer compete). loses scholarships to college, his friends and girlfriend, basically everything. he becomes unfamiliar and unpopular. grades drop, eventually gives up on everything, going through the motions, afraid of what will happen after he graduates, if he graduates. finds himself in the company of the school's outcasts. the rest is undetermined.
~ "whiskey tango foxtrot" - like the old military euphemism for 'wtf', this is a trio (possibly triplets? or just best friends) that have gone together since childhood, like a peanut-butter&banana sandwich. the bread of the group: holds them all together. the peanut-butter: a smooth-talker that gets them out of trouble. the banana: a goofball that just makes them all fun to be around. drama comes quick and easy to these three. romance, on the other hand... (can turn in to a love triangle if so desired but not their intended purpose)
~ "bianca" - aka friendly weakness. the angel. a flower-child. self-critical, shy, timid, easily led, and always looking for somebody to guide them. lives by: I'm not okay, but you're okay, and that's fine with me.
~ "devon" - aka hostile weakness. the bull. a pretender. uses a brash attitude to cover their truth. loyal but slow to trust. only cares that things are fair and square, not whether there is justice. doesn't care about how anyone is deserving or not. lives by: I'm not okay, and you're not okay, so there.
~ "joseph" - aka friendly strength. the lion. a hero to the rescue. selfless, compassionate, a bit proud, and dutiful. not emotional, but sympathetic and intends to serve others. lives by: I'm okay, and you're okay. Hooray!
~ "callie" - aka hostile strength. the eagle. a fighter. narcissistic and dark-hearted, looks down on all others as inferior. goal-oriented, believes they are right about everything. clever with words and also able to back them up with their fists. lives by: I'm okay, and you're not okay. Screw yourself.
this one is more of a side-plot we could include if you wanted?? "rush" - a group of miners that are kind of chipping away without regulation and stealing precious metals for themselves. one of them tries to stop the rest, but a cavern collapses and they're left to survive in the tunnels on their own/attempt escape though mostly they're assumed dead/missing.

I love these! I think they would be really fun to work with, and they are general enough to give players creative freedom within it, still. x) So do you think we would include these as something claimable for their character? Like they could choose to work with it for their character(s) if they wanted to?
The side-plot idea would be really fun too. It could explore more of some adult characters in their perspective. I think it would be interesting if we used it as a prequel of sorts, if that makes any sense?

as for the side-plot, using it as like a backstory could also work, like the town's history would have involved this incident, perhaps on the rich family's property a long time ago (like during times when ppl actually mined for precious metals with their bare hands like savages lmao) and explains why they didn't want to sell the land back to the town initially? but then it would also be interesting to incorporate it into the current plot and, like you said, explore some of the adults' perspectives and those trapped in the tunnels while everyone's thinking they just disappeared. idk man up to you! either way
and as for the character descriptions, we can totally make them claimable. if you count wtf as three separate claimables though, we might want to add one more description so it's an even ten? and if you want to change anything about any of them just lemme know i'm down to rearrange things

Sorry I disappeared for a hot minute, work had me busy this past week x) Yeah, the backstory idea is great too! I guess we could see where interest falls for it once we get the main plot going. It's hard to decide. Either way, we should decide what we want lurking in those mines. >:3 If we wanted it to be full supernatural, I was thinking that there could be a spirit monster set to guard the mines, like it was cursed a long time ago before it was used for digging. Maybe by a tribe that lived in the area once? If we wanted to go sci-fi, I always love me an experiment gone wrong. As for the claimable spots, yeah, we could probably add one more. Do you want to write another one for that?

Not a problem I totally understand, this was my last full week of work before vacation and then classes so I get it Hmmmmmm I like the idea of supernatural curses better than science experiments lmao And I can get to work on another one tomorrow c: edit: updated! here is the last one, it's a bit different, so i can make another ones that's for a "kid" character too if you like
"edward teach" ~ the teacher that everyone likes, even the kids that are "too cool for school". helpful and actually cares about children learning to better themselves and not just their grades. makes learning fun somehow. touches lives without knowing it at times, like impacts the quiet kids that admire them from afar but are too shy to say so. a bit prideful, would rebuild the world in their image / better than it is now.

Supernatural curse it is! I'm partial to that one for this anyway. I like the idea of there being a guardian spirit bent on vengeance. I really like that character idea. I think we have enough kid character prompts, and the variety with an older character will be good. I might actually claim that one for myself...

Yeah, if you wanna write a town description that would be great! Outside of what we've already established for the town, feel free to add any different places and stuff that you want! As for formatting, I'm probably going to keep things pretty simple. Have a plot summary, town description, claimable character prompts, the character list, and then some basic rules for courtesy as usual for rps. x) I'll work on getting that together on Tuesday when I'm off from work, so then we can try and get things going!

hey, this sounds cool! i'm interested in joining but i probably need to try and figure out if i'll be able to be active enough since i've been pretty busy recently. (i was actually trying to join something similar awhile ago- had my character(s) planned and everything- but i think one of the people working on it left the site and it ended up not getting finished)
