[[ I'm surprised I spelled anything right back then. My grammar was atrocious. I think I stuck mostly to OTRP, even back then, except for one clan which was like Blizzardclan 86.0 that kept getting rebooted due to kit-stealing and power-playing lmao.
But yeah, gross, immature behavior. Makes me sick. ]]
Lost. An accurate word to label Zahavi's current state of mind. A perpetually lost, confused boy who knew so little of the world outside these sturdy, harsh stone walls. He fiddled with the edge of his scratchy suit shirt, refused to meet his mother's gaze. Knew what he would find there. Her worry for her only son, her desire for him to live up to her heavy expectations.
Where was Eldred when Zahavi needed him to break the thick tension weighing down the air?
"I'm not lost, mother. Nor am I distressed. If you must know, I'm bored. These parties are so dull and drab," he sniffed, shoving aside his own wishes to join in on the revelry. As much as he loved his mother and admired her strength, he didn't possess her talent and ability to woo the countless masses simple-minded nobility. He couldn't keep up with their trivial chatter or intimidate them into making profitable deals for the future. Nor could he command respect and obedience the way his father, the great king, could with a single charming smile.
Each party was different, but this conversation would always be the same. "I said it this morning, mother, and I will say it again: I don't wish to be here. You and father are more than capable of representing our family, why must I stand around and do nothing?"
Here came the entitled meltdown, as Lanni often called it. Zahavi was already pouting.
❀❀━━━━━✮✮✮━━━━━❀❀
What rude, straightforward questions for a servant to ask, especially of a high class lady! It was unheard of for a boy as low as a server to dare ask a fair woman where she came go acquire her belongings. A real noble would be fitful with dismay; a common servant knew to hold their tongues. Dru, for her part, merely raised her eyebrows in a showy display of shock. Truthfully, she didn't care what servants or nobles alike had to say, but she would do as her role expected her to.
Zach was a peculiar servant boy, indeed.
His little slip-ups in conversation did not go unnoticed, though Dru knew well to keep her thoughts to herself for the time being.
Her attention settled on Leon. "Oh, don't be silly, Lady. Certainly, as a child and your responsibility as your guest, the boy must be found at once. It's improper for a young lad to wander these crowds on his own. Especially, as you say, if he is a troublemaker. It's no disturbance, I assure you. My only concern is that he be harmed all on his own, the poor thing." Children were Dru's most common patients, but it would be a major stretch to say she was a maternal woman.
Protective, perhaps. Motherly? Not so much.
Now, Leon's snapping tone for Zach to hurry--again, a servant they'd only just met, as far as Drusilla knew--was a jarring shift in demeanor. Strange, very strange, and growing stranger by the moment. Servants were often yelled at, but not more than a minute ago, Leon was being rather civil. What a conundrum this night was turning about to be and not in a good way.
"Now, now. No need to scold the poor server, he knows little of our ways," she tutted, true to the image of a calm, well put together madame. "Come, I believe the trout is over this way, if I remember correctly. We'll find your little rascal and I'll be on my way. Unless you'd like to join my family and I on a walk through the gardens, that is. I hear the flowers here are a wonderful sight this time of year and I would love to have your company."
Every offer was a trap in and of itself, to gauge and test Leon's reactions, her words and the tone of her voice. What Dru would do with the information was yet to be decided. Catalogue and memorize it, until she could determine whether this was a mystery worth pursuing. It wasn't her job to babysit would-be potential criminals, but her precisely covered hands and arms, adorned in white lace gloves, ached with the familiarity of it. Her fingers twitched and she clasped her hands together in front of herself as she walked, one set at a time toward the other tables loaded with food.

Christopher makes his way into the room and looks around. He had a large smile plastered on his face. He takes notice of his family and strides over to them. To most he would seem rather intimidating. He stood around 6'3 with broad shoulders and a somewhat muscular look about him. He was a fierce warrior in battle and could strike fear into the hearts of his enemies. Yet, he was also a big goofball. He enjoyed joking around with others and overall being with his wife and son.
He took noticed that his wife looked quite annoyed at their son. Wonder what he did or said this time. He thought wishing his son would loosen up a bit. "Hope I didn't keep you both waiting." He said standing beside Reyna and putting his arm around her shoulders. "Have all our guests arrived cause I'm ready to get this little party started!"

Zacharias gave his right eyebrow a raise at Leon's mention of a 'seamstress' being involved in the making of her dress. He was just about to talk about, too, when she gave him a pleading look. One of utter dismay… anger, even?
Nevertheless, Zach decided it was best to drop that part of the conversation. He may have been clueless to Drusilla's part in acquiring that particular dress of hers, but he wasn't clueless to the obvious facial cues that Leon was giving him.
Instinctively, after Leon's words, Zacharias began to bound after her. The pair weaved through flocks of party-goers and bedazzled court members. Truly, this gala was a rather impressive event. The king and queen used it to display the kingdom's wealth - as they should - to the highest ranking members of their society and surrounding ones.
Semi-conscious of the extra lady following behind him, Zacharias was just about to glance in her direction when a burning sensation lit up the back of his left palm.
Senses flaring, Zacharias recoiled his left hand into his chest, grabbing it with the other.
No, no, no, no, he thought, looking down at the cause of the burn just when Drusilla began to speak.
Unable to listen clearly, Zacharias found the ultimate cause of the burn. Wax, dripping precariously from a bent candle that rested on a chandelier far above them. One of the streamers had caught onto the candle, making it tilt just enough to drip into the crowd below.
Relief flooding into his thoughts, Zach angrily looked down and closed his eyes. The candle repositioned itself, no longer a threat to people passing below. Such a small movement would go unnoticed by others... he hoped.
Suddenly realizing that he was falling behind, Zach picked up the pace, walking silently beside Drusilla as she made small talk with Leon.
He couldn't help but let a smile creep across his face as Drusilla defended him. Oh, she really had no idea of their history, did she?
Parting through the last of the crowd as they made their way over to the dining tables, Zacharias caught sight of Zelos and an… interesting looking man up ahead.
He couldn't help but wonder.

Her frustration with Drusilla grew when the other woman decided she just had to come and be the snooping noble she most likely was. Her blue eyes narrowed forward, she didn’t storm, but she simply kept herself to a quick pace, her annoyance was ticking up by the second.
That’s when she realized that Zach had fallen behind, and glared back, about to snap at him. Yet his head was bowed, glaring down, and Leon was curious as to the cause. Her head tipped, but movement up above caught her eyes. A candle?
That’s when she noticed him cradling one hand, and she immediately found her annoyance declining slightly. She gaze a little stare, one of sympathy for a moment because burns sucked.
Instead she settled on this fitting reply, “Sir, are you coming?” She questioned, raising an eyebrow, before turning back to walk slightly behind Drusilla.
Drusilla who just asked her if she and Zelos wanted to walk in the gardens. Though the question scared her at first, she found it easy to reply to, “Sure, Madame, as long as my Cousin agrees.” She had no intent on holding through, but she would entertain the idea for the woman. “I hear the gardens are glorious, and with all of your help I truly owe it to you,” not, Leon had no intentions, per usual, on following through with it. Hopefully Zelos would claim to be sick or something, and if not, she and Zelos would sneak out. It wasn’t hard to sneak out of places, essentially unseen, even if it was a gala.
Call it a talent of doing it for years.
When Zach caught up and they made it past the crowd, she found Zelos and another man, an older one, and her gaze turned to a hateful glare in Zelos direction as she walked forward, towards him, “Zelos Quill!” She growled out, “I told you not to sneak off from me, what if you got lost?” She questioned, adding in the last part to fit her part of a noblewoman, over the top and worried. “What would I do?” She asked, though that came through a bit more genuine.
That’s when she took note, for real, of Eldred, “I’m so sorry sir, he didn’t bother you, did he?” She questioned.

[[ Sorry for the bad quality of this. I’m a little rushed for time today, have some work stuff going on. ]]
The thought of not having his parents around to do the hard work was one that Zahavi often avoided. He knew well enough that he was unfit to rule they way he was now and he was far from eager to take the throne. Not only because he lacked the skill his parents possessed, but also because it meant relinquishing what little freedom he had now. No more wandering the palace grounds during the day, no more reading late into the night in a cozy corner of the library--he would have to say goodbye to his rare visits to the stables to speak with the stableboy and wouldn’t be able to play with the wild dogs in the bordering forest.
His life would become duller than dull. To top it all off, he would truly be alone then, without his dear parents for company, considering he had few other relatives.
“I understand, mother. Forgive me,” he apologized, more out of habit than sincerity. He did so to more or less please her and put an end to her rising temper. An argument would follow tonight, once the guests had left and they were behind closed doors. A lecture he wanted no part of. “I just meant that I don’t fancy these events, is all. I didn’t mean it like that. I’ll try to behave.’
That’s what it always boiled down to, wasn’t it? Good behavior, proper behavior, the way a future king was meant to act--all of the things that, naturally, Zahavi was not. Perhaps if the queen had been a little more strict with him growing up, he would have a better grasp on what it meant to be responsible and professional. As it stood, he was a spoiled child of a young man, who currently did his best to hide his growing pout.
“I believe all the guests have arrived, father.” Zahavi answered quickly, in a desperate attempt to distract his mother from scolding him further. The king often took Zahavi’s side, if the argument wasn’t too serious, and he was counting on it now.
❀❀━━━━━✮✮✮━━━━━❀❀
Drusilla certainly didn’t have any idea of Zach and Leon’s history together, nor their true occupations. She only knew that they were strange, suspicious, and slightly getting on her nerves with their weird antics. “Ah, well I’m glad that your cousin seems to be well and not in any trouble at all,” she commented Leon spotted Zelos, running to him the way any worried family member should. The elderly man, however, she did recognize.
Somehow, her words seemed a tad hollow, Dru couldn’t judge them completely. After all, she knew nothing of their familial relationship. Perhaps things in their family were a bit tense at the moment.
She took note of the stiff set the Zach’s shoulders, the distant glaze in his eyes that seemed so lively moments ago. The movement of the candle went unnoticed to Dru, but the wax on the boy’s skin and the haunted look on his face did not. What could cause such a distracted change in mood, she wasn’t sure, but it was no doubt serious.
Not that kind of thing she could up and ask about, without setting off any major red flags.
“Well, hello, Eldred. Pleasure to see you here,” Dru greeted the man politely, waving a delicate paper fan to stave off the growing heat of the crowd. She knew the advisor through work-related visits to the castle, particularly when the prince was feeling ill (or pretending to in order to get out of his daily chores, the little snot). He was a nice enough man, always polite to her, and knew better than most how to deal with Zahavi’s tantrums. “Getting into the babysitting business lately, are you?”

Eldred had been about to reply to the boy when he noted that there was a group approaching the table. And he recognised only one of the three; Drusilla, a healer who he knew from seeing her around the palace and work-related visits.
“Ah, Miss Thristle, always a pleasure,” he responded
At her comment about babysitting, he raised an eyebrow.
“It would indeed appear so,” the man returned, “but me going beyond my job description appears to be a pattern today.”
It was at that point that the man turned his attention to the other girl who greeted him, who then began to speak to the young boy. It appeared the predicament had been resolved without Eldred having to search for the boy’s cousin.
“Ah, you must be the cousin. It’s a pleasure to meet you, my lady. No need to concern yourself, he hasn’t bothered me at all, indeed it was I who approached him. I just wanted to make sure that he was alright on his own. A rather unique child, isn’t he?”
He didn’t meant that as an insult, of course, but there was something about the child and his behaviour that struck Eldred as unusual, though he had no clue what it was about. Perhaps it was the slightly strange way he ate, his unusual confidence and intelligence. For s young boy he seemed remarkably worldly, particularly since many noble boys were quite sheltered. Zelos was an interesting boy, but Eldred didn’t have any reason to suspect there was anything bigger going on, of course.

Absentmindedly giving a wave at Leon's words, Zach followed the pair over to the Zelos' table. He seemed to be awkwardly hacking at a large plate of trout in front of him.
One that Zacharias secretly wished he was eating. He clenched his stomach, hoping that the three total macaroons he had consumed would set him off for a while.
He gave an angry glare at Leon, one that he thought clearly said, 'curse you, you took me away from the dessert table'.
It was no use, though. Leon was turned away from him and already conversing with Zelos and the man sitting across from him. A man that - apparently - Drusilla knew quite well.
Deciding that it was best if the 'server boy's didn't talk anyway, Zach let his mind stray away from the conversation.
The slight burning sensation on his left palm reminded him of the event that had just taken place. One that had probably gone unnoticed or at least seemed insignificant to the others. To him, though, it was a stark reminder of why he wasn't supposed to be there.
He had just received one of the biggest scares of his life, and still his heart rate was much faster than normal.
Breathe, Zacharias told himself, allowing his muscles to relax. The burn on his hand - one which was all too familiar - was insignificant. There was no reason to dwell on it, and there was no reason to connect any dots that weren't there.

Leon huffed, of course Drusilla had to recognize Eldred. She missed the glare sent to her by Zacharias, but Eldred’s words caught her off guard.
“Yeah,” she found herself agreeing to his statement, “Zelos is a very interesting one indeed, isn’t he?” She said, her hand gliding through Zelos hair, just as she would do to his other form, to some, it may seem like she was just some overprotective and frustrated cousin, but it was her way off slightly annoying him.
Ruffling his hair some, she smiled once more, “Eldred,” she commented after hearing Drusilla say it, “My name is Leonela, my cousin here is Zelos, but I’m sure he remembered his manners and has already introduced himself, Yes?”
She then turned to Zelos, her mind glossing over Drusilla’s earlier offer, “Oh yes, this Madame here, Drusilla, has offered us to go with her on a walk,” she said to Zelos, “I know you weren’t really a fan of coming, so it’s up to you and how you’re feeling,” and please kindly reject her offer so we can get out of here.
Her gaze flittered up to a balcony, where the prince, queen and king were greeting guests, something hidden laid in her gaze, and the only one to understand it at all would be Zelos, who knew her. “And Zach,” she mentioned, stealing her gaze away from the royals with something akin to dismay, “I believe I haven’t asked you about how you are? That was rather impolite of me, to ask none of you about how you are enjoying your night.” She commented, though it was starting to become bland, the emotion that hid in her eyes, the shift in demeanor was Minuit, but existed none-the-less.
