I agree that prizes for a competition would be really nice. Have any ideas of how a community RP would work or be about? Many of the member base are either in Fan Clans and not in Off Topic RP or are in Off Topic RP but not Fan Clans. Not shooting down the idea. Just want to open the discussion on it and brainstorm ideas. What did you have in mind for what an RP like that would be like and what might make it more inclusive or more interesting than a regular RP would be?

𝒯𝓌𝒾𝓈𝓉𝑒𝒹𝒽𝑒𝒶𝓇𝓉 †Here here! Well, since you were here, there's been a suggestion for a forum-wide competition and games. Sand put up some polls and there was a fair amount of interest! So there's hopefully going to be something around Winter break (you can check the poll posted in Message Board Discussion. I think it's right under this topic for what happened. ) So there's that. Otherwise there's just been some brainstorming ideas and different suggestions. Right now that's what I've been doing anyway. Pfft. There's a lot to read. So right now it's bouncing ideas around. In news, I'm still really trying to work out in my head on doing a small newsletter thing. Still working on that thought. But otherwise, I've been paying attention to other sites and how they in-site and out of site generate activity. I'm only a member of a certain number of sites, so the only other things I've heavily been considering is some themes and mini challenges for Art Forums and the two writing sections we have, since those are the places I know I could probably set something up with success. As for outside the forums, I'm not completely sure. Like I said, not a member of a lot of sites, so I've been doing advertisements that I can. Lately I've been thinking about ways to improve those small banners I made and come up with a better variety. Maybe some small pins.

I could give the icons a shot tonight or tomorrow night seeing as I need something to do for my portfolio. I might go with the blues, maybe? Trying to think of what colors are more appealing: the green, red, or blues...

Greens and blues! I've always liked the cool colors though, ha ha. Maybe a red-fade-to-blue might also look nice.
Red and greens is just Christmas. It doesn't work. XD

I completely agree, I really like cool colors or saturated ones. It's really hard for me to pick. Gradient's not a bad idea, actually. I'll play with it.
Agreed-- especially the olive-y green and maroon-y red we have do not fit together but somehow work with the blue. I thought about making like a clan sign (symbol?) for here but I'm not sure what shape.. could always use starclan or dark forest to test.

The best I can think for the clan symbol is maybe 'WCRP' as the initials on it. Or we have that little cat with the floating heart.
StarClan as a test might work well!

I know the last time I did something with an icon was like a pawprint but I could try the pixel cat.

his little heart gets in the way.. :'(((. i could try making the heart on its own layer, move it over so that the text will warp around his ears correctly.. will probably change the font & its color. also need to re-warp the text as it's not enough imo. edit 1: ok, i don't care for the glow... font might change (again).

I would like to do that! We could always add other things into the mix— maybe Inktober & WFF?
Some ideas: - candy hunt - inktober contest - writing contest
Opinions? Yes, no, maybe?

I expressed opinions in your poll. I know that a place I'm in is having a spooky RPing activity - they're characters in a haunted murder. And there's also a topic about costumes/what people are doing for Halloween - which might be fun for OTD.

I've noticed another forum/s advertising their fandoms in the ads. I wonder if that would be at all productive for us? o3o Just thinking out loud.
In another note, anything planning around for those winter activities? I'm thinking of doing another writing contest because that went well. But right now I'm off to get something up in both OTW and WFF for NaNo.

Depends on the cost, honestly. I’m not sure how they work but I can look into it. Gotta figure out winter break. Not sure what we’ll do but I know an art contest is a part of it so might as well incorporate writing contests into that.

Alright-o. Back here again. Just generally want to do some more plot and shop talking, not sure if anyone is around to brainstorm at all but I figured it would be cool. I like how there have been more activities and that had been a joy, but I would be curious about focusing outward now or maybe more activities I'm really not sure. Whatever someone might want to talk about. But for the focusing outward thing. Generally, our main selling point is Warriors and our very lovely community. But I'm not sure what actually brings a lot of interest. A lot of people come here for nostalgia. It's a place to talk about the old books they like and that's generally a good time. Is there some way that might be enhanced at all? What do the very large Warrior communities (I've heard Amino and tumblr/twitter?) cater to? Art? Writing? General discussion? Are we not hitting those boxes or are we not upholding that style as much or is their layout better (Proboards never was that decent)? Or might just be because they're the popular sites of the day, but never know. If that's the case, then still might be possible to filter some of that popularity to here if we have something they don't (i.e. possibly the lovely community selling point again, but still might need something else. Decently scheduled and reoccurring activities might be fun.) We have a fairly decent sized writing and RPing community, which I'm not sure how much of that is being focused on or catered to. RPing in both Fan Clans and OTRP seem to boost activity. With my limited knowledge of outside Warriors communities, it's usually the writing and the art. As well as a minor in RPing. In which case, for any attempts to promote, those should be highlighted. In the same vain, I believe that the WFF, OTW, Art Forums, and both RP sections could benefit from activities and various hosted affairs. Art Forums in particular. As of this month, WFF and OTW have a write-in for NaNo with both showing activity. (OTW in particular). That will likely last all month. Later months I could host similar activities. I have no issue with that. But if that's the case I think it might be a good idea to 1) promote the site by focusing on the community and the good boards (as listed) as well as 2) possibly having some scheduled and predictable activities in all of them. All of which I'd be more than happy to assist with if I had a bit better idea of a game plan. Also Sand so you can see?

@roswell , should we consider ads or nah? Not sure how PB works in that form, but I tend to see ads for other roleplay sites.
I think most people either come here for a.) nostalgia or b.) roleplaying. The site's layout is basically nostalgic itself and if necessary, we can run a poll & see if people want something different looking?? I don't think they will, but that's just me. Roleplay wise, you can't change that unless we advertise the forum some way whether it's by ads or on another forum or site. I agree that events boost activity, I definitely saw a change during October which was good, but the thing is we have to find something that could run either seasonally or monthly. When I think monthly, I think of Lioden but this is a forum not a game with lions and shit. So, really we're gonna need something that fits us; either doing like a rp of the month, fan fic of the month, art dump of the month, etc. I think we could do that easily imo. Essentially the game plan, in my opinion-- find things we can do monthly and do like game nights for OTD too. We'd have to poll on times for OTD considering time zones but I think we can make this work?

No, I don't see the layout changing much. That would probably be too drastic of a change since, as you said, nostalgia. However, layout doesn't necessarily have to be be about a way things look. How things function was more how I was going. Not like I know anything to compare it to, though I have been attempting to think of some. Sadly, as I said, Proboards isn't that great and the best I can think of as one of those things is the instant message update. Where you don't need to refresh the page. As far as I know, that isn't an option. There was one thing I noticed with the layout. The little notification button over bookmarks. Though I suppose that the lack of it has been encouraging me to actually check my 13+ pages of bookmarks. *cough* That aside. Layout. Love the layout, think it should be kept. Maybe adding some things might be an option - a calendar post of some kind might be very cool - maybe some notification in some unobtrusive corner when one is about to happen. So forth. That's good to hear! I'm glad that it boosted things. I think monthly would probably be fairly awesome, if there was enough variety per month. Then again, that preference might be too much to keep up, while seasonally would be more sustainable. When I think monthly, I think Flight Rising and Dragon Cave. Which has much the same problem. Flight Rising does run some types of monthly contests - art and writing as well as discussion questions. I think that might be a good plan to follow. Usually the art contests have themes, the writing question has a prompt, and the discussion questions are just anything site topic related. Other sites do similar things as far as I'm aware. Tuesday's Challenges were a big thing on the WFF, which always boosted our activity back in the day, but running it is a big commitment that sadly I don't have time for. But writing off a prompt could probably still work and if it was more than just one person I'd be willing to pitch in. Flight Rising has theirs revolve around lore. Often times their writing pieces relate back to a main piece of lore. I also have a Warriors DnD style group that is scary active. Posts are just RPed, but there's dice and things. Having that as an RP option or having a large RP with 'sessions' could possible work out as an activity, with each session perhaps being a one-shot style where no one has to have been part of the previous session to be a member (then maybe have a pinglist of all those interested in being a part of it, a poll before hand to see what days/rough times work for people, and then anything else that people need to know. Calendar's still a main suggestion I have.) I agree with the ___ of the month would probably be a stellar idea. I think that would be a fun little thing that people could get behind. Game nights for OTD seems like a fun plan. I could totally get behind that. Movie nights might be fun too - Kast seems to be working-ish. I continue to be okay with offering art as prizes for completing contests, which should also be sustainable enough considering how often I do art and how I only seem to have motivation to do fan art. It's roughly the only prize I can offer though, unless someone wants writing or something for some reason.

I think the calendar feature is turned off on here. You can access it alone by going down to Members where it shows the latest members who joined and it'll show you today's birthdays. PB just sucks, honestly. If it had things that would work like instant messaging and were, well, a lot faster and didn't take as much time, we might be in better shape. If we switched to something else that's not PB, I'd think we would lose members but gain? I don't know. I don't know a lot about PB other than how moderation (security) and the marketing part works. Felix and Ros know (probably) everything in that aspect. Soo, half of my reply is basically going to be: "don't know," "ask [person]," and "an off-topic comment, but..." We have the discord but I know not everyone has access to that (or can use it) so I thought about using that to announce things... then I realize it'd be no good if there's people who want to participate in events and they don't have discord. Monthly or seasonally seem to be our best options right now to be honest. I could too-- I've never heard of Kast but we used rabb.it in the past which is now gone, so really our only known options are Kast. Game wise we've got free ones like Cards Against Humanity, Skribbl.io, etc. The only thing I guess I can offer is graphics lol, but that's useless.
I don't know if I have the ability (financially) to run ads either, but I'll see. I have medical bills to pay + school loans.

Uh huh! I'm pretty sure you can, yes. I look at today's birthday some times. Do you think that, if there were scheduled activities (e.g. the candy hunt) that there might be a way to have a little notification on the calendar? Though ... that might be a Felix or Roswell question (who I can tag, but not sure which one to do so).
Don't have to tell me twice, honestly. I'm not sure ... we might gain ... something. You're right there. I'm not sure what the something is though. The issue is that for the time being, people are aware or finding this forums in google and the like. I'd worried if we flat out switched domains that we would not also lose members but also the current position we have in how people find us. From what I've seen from introductions, people - new people and old people - have been finding us by google. The platform is horrible, but at least people can find it without having to 1) get used to a new URL (possibly? Not sure how it would work), 2) lose the ability to find it easily via google/search engines. If the change over was directly to a new forum host with those sorts of updates was as easy as possible, I think that maybe less members would be lost in the change over. But there are other problems which arise from that possibility. Weathering out ProBoards might just be better. I think the technology baggage associated with moving would be far too great.
That's fine! I don't know who to ask the questions to, so I'm glad to be able to refer it to someone.
Ye. I know what you mean by that. I swear there's probably a way to have some way to have a forum notification other than pinning, but that's probably Felix/Roswell question.
Any thoughts on this?
Yeah, monthly and seasonally. I think that would be fun.
I mean, best I know for games is a one-on-one chess game that other people can sit in on and watch. Not exactly the same idea (Wouldn't say I wouldn't love to see the various mods go head to head in a chess match. Just saying.) *cough* But yeah. Kast is almost functioning just like Rabbit now? Almost? It's been a couple months since I checked it out and apparently each version is working out the major bugs. So there's that. Otherwise there's this thing called Metastream that works as well - but only if the person using it has an account with the place you're streaming from (e.g. everyone has a Netflix account).
I think Shiningdiamond mentioned she'd found something in regards to prizes last night, since I was chatting with her in Discord, but not sure if it would work (nor did I hear the specifics of the ProBoards plugin(?) she found) but it's also probably another Felix/Roswell question.
I mean ... not sure if you're able to accept but I could possibly put forward a little for a pool? I'm a college student saving for Uni though ... so can't say much about that. Next time I saw one of those forum ads though (Dragon Age and Gotham Nights were two?) I was intending to go see if they have any plans or promotional type things going on, since they seem to have ads running. Worth a shot on my end, just to see what's up. ^^ Dragon Age seems to manage ads fairly regularly too.

Yeah, to me, switching platforms is risky and seeing that our Google analytics look good (at least to what I understand), switching would be hard enough as is. Probably something we shouldn't consider right now. Regarding the D&D group -- poll sounds like a good idea, gotta see how many people are interested. It sounds like a good idea to me, but that may just be me. (I don't know how to play chess but I can try. I'm better at like checkers or something. I love monopoly and battleship. My sister stands no chance against me in any of those games and she cheated for like half of her childhood so.) Kast and Metastream sound like good options. She sent it to us, so I guess we'll see if Felix and Ros find it to be implementable (probably not a word). I'm not sure about accepting, that's not a question for me.. There seems to be a lot I can answer, I'm sorry. Yeah that's the same for me pretty much. I've seen those! I come across them more often than I expected to, so I wonder if they had an increase in members & activity.

I mean, it sounds good to me (D&D style group) and no harm in getting the idea out there. (I thought I was good until I went up against my friend. Now I'm attempting to improve. Battleship I like! I like tricking my sister into hitting the wrong places. Catan is fun too.) Awesome! And speaking as an English major, I say use the word. English constantly changes and it'll probably be a word in 5 years if it isn't now. You'll be ahead of the time. Please don't be sorry! I'm very appreciative of your input and willingness to read my suggestions! I have no idea, but I plan to look next time I see.

Looking what to do advertisement wise right now. Could see if the r/warriorcats subreddit would allow an advertisement, but I'm not sure about that. Plus, don't know what lurks there but then again after 3 years here and seeing people come from wcf and other places, nothing shocks me. On Google, we're the top site when I put in "warriors cats forum," so in my opinion that's a win (i guess?). I found a site to advertise on too, so I'll try and stick with that as long as my post doesn't get deleted.
so far we've 2 places to advertise and I'll try to find more.

(It's really fun! You need three or more players for the main board game, but it's really fun once you learn the moves! ) Yeah! I've been talking some things out with Dia as well. Working out some thing. Huuuuuuuum. I know a bunch of Secret Santas are going up. Would it be productive to do one here? o.o Like, I know that the Art Forum usually does one, but I've always been able to come up with a list of other things people can do for secret santas that don't need art. Assuming this is for the internet: -Make a playlist -Write a story -Make those funny little coupons that can be cashed in at any time (i.e. IOU one hour of RP time, IOU 5 minutes of talking about what I like/dislike about your character, IOU idk Tatsu money for a week, IOU a lot of funny cat pictures on demand, etc.) -Drag the person into voice call (or if you wanted it to be a surprise, then tell someone else to do it) and host a sound only surprise gift (music, clapping, then something delivered via word of mouth - examples I can think of is song, something entertaining, or of that like.) -Find a collection of cool websites and gift them as a link bundle. (I honestly have enough wholesome and fun websites to do this at this point.) -Do a quote feature. Just because you can't do art doesn't mean you can't take memorable quotes, slap them on a piece of paper, and call it art. And having them as a collection could be very fun. -If you're feeling dangerous, maybe make an in depth relationship chart - you're characters vs. theirs. More detail, the better. -Find moodboard pictures. There are tones of free sites to make moodboards. Just find some pictures and pare them up! Here's the one I know: www.befunky.com/So I am curious if a Secret Santa for the whole forums would be fun. o.o
