THE PLOT A little town, far from any other aspect of civilization, is surrounded by woods infested with strange creatures. The townspeople think nothing of it, not knowing that wolves are not supposed to be as tall as a man on all four paws. Little do they know that these are not regular wolves, but werewolves. The pack is peaceful, for the most part. They protect the village from the coven of vampires that also make their home in the forest, and prey on unsuspecting villagers. Very few of these villagers believe that werewolves and vampires exist, and the few that do are ostracized. One boy believes, secretly, and finds that he’s all too right, as he goes to work for a large estate on the outskirts of town on the night of a full moon. Unprotected, he goes in to save the estate’s owner’s daughter, only to be taken into the woods himself in the process. Changed into one of the very creatures his father swears are only found in fairytales, the boy has to learn how to control himself when the full moon comes around, finding himself the victim of a rage that is impossible to control. The girl whom he saves on the night he is turned ventures into the forest one day, and is cornered by vampires, and low and behold, the boy saves her once again, throwing their fates together as she promises to help him control his rage. But will she even survive their first full moon together…?
THE CHARACTERS Axl Chadbury--; Axl isn't too tall, nor is he too short. He's an average height, being around 5'10". He has tanned skin and is muscular, but not too much. He has ruffled, slightly curled brown hair that hangs in his eyes most of the time. Speaking of his eyes, they're plain brown, nothing really special about them. He does have a scar slashing through his left eyebrow, leaving a small gap there. Axl also has a single tattoo, spanning across the upper part of his chest, near the base of his neck. The tattoo is of a raven, wings spread wide, its mouth open in a fierce cry. He keeps it covered most of the time, but it pokes up around the neckline of his shirt. (WIP)
Thayer Hawkthorne--; Thayer, the older of the two twins, has her father's looks and her mother's spirit. At the age of twenty-two, she stands at a solid 5'8". Long brown hair flows down her back, stopping at her hips and she usually kept two small braids in her hair. Unless she and her sister were trying to trade places. Her face held sharp features and high cheek bones with bright green eyes filled with mischief. There was little sign of unwanted chub from her childhood years, shedding the weight and growing into a lithe and athletic young women. It didn't happen overnight, of course, because the family cook always made amazing meals and would always offer her something to eat whenever she was spotted. It took great pains to get the healthy figure she now has, and a difficult one to maintain on some days.
Be prepared when dealing with the woman to be faced with the blunt truth. Thayer is not one to play word games. If there is truth to be spoken, then she will say it. Raised among the high and mighty of society, she knows when to hold her tongue, and which company to say what to and whom to keep silent. Most of the time at least. She's an actor if the situation needs, playing courteous and polite if that's what it takes, but that is often not how one will find her on a normal day. She is a good-natured person, but will always be quick to make a joke at the expense of someone else. All with no ill-intent, of course. Thayer is never one to throw insults at anyone unless well deserved. Sharp witted and armed with her bluntness, she will call things as she sees them. The woman is also very prone to moments of half-thought out plans of fancy. More so during her teenage years, but even now the woman will have an idea she thinks is too good or amusing or important to dismiss. Thus, without informing anyone or thinking it through all the way, she'll dive headfirst into such plans. This is usually followed by her sister or parents bailing her out of trouble.
Because of her father's rise within the world of aristocrats and scholars, she was raised on how to behave within certain company. Thayer knows how to conduct formal business and entertain important visitors, however, the problem was, she didn't want to be part of that society. It was a game she was not interested in playing, and more times than not, she found ways out of it. This led to rebellious behavior. The life of the upper class, even if her family just barely fit into that group, in the city was stifling and constricting, and the responsibilities that she had to take care of were always boring and tedious. Or at least they were in her mind. So the girl spent as much time as she could outside the walls of the house, doing something much more important in her mind. Her main hobby was to learn from the Falconers of her family's estate. They had one of the largest collection of hunting birds, and she had always had a fascination with the creatures. She learned everything the caretakers told her of the hawks and falcons used for hunting. She had grown so close to the old master that, on her eighteenth birthday, she was gifted with a young hawk to train and use as she wanted. The only thing keeping her from flat out refusing to carry on any formal duties is the fact that her parents thought the experience would do them some good. So, to appease her parents, she took up the interests of her father. Instead of business and politics like her sister seemed to be a natural in, Thayer turned towards the histories and tales forgotten. She dedicated herself to learning everything she could of her father's research, as well as began her own personal research on matters many have scoffed at.

Well, I have two picked out. Either Stella or Axl, depending on what character you used. I'm fine with either!

Well, I'm currently using Stella in a different role-play so I think I'd like to try Axl out, if that's okay? I think I was using him the last time we tried this out too.

Yeah, that'd be great! I'll throw up Axl's as well; I think I've updated him since the last time I've actively used him to role-play.

Axl rubbed at his eyes as he woke up, wishing he could sleep for once, or at the very least sleep until after the sun had risen. As it was, it was still dark outside but his very busy day was just starting. Not only did he have to help his parents with the necessities of their modest homestead, but he had to run into town and pick up more feed for their chickens. After all that, he would then leave with his father to go to work at the Hawthorn estate doing whatever odd jobs the wealthy family that lived there required of him to do. His father worked in the stables and trained their horses, and was quite good at it, but unfortunately the Chadbury family was too poor to afford any horses of their own.
"Axl! Hurry up now, you need to be in town before they sell out!" his mother called. Axl groaned softly and sat up, quickly dressing and leaving his room to grab a piece of toast his mother had made before heading outside to collect the eggs their hens had laid the night before. As he reached the coop, he paused, frowning as he noticed that something had been digging around the edges, trying to get in.
"Mum! That fox was trying to get to the chickens again!" he shouted, haphazardly kicking the loose dirt back into the holes before quickly grabbing the eggs and taking them inside. "Did you hear me?" he asked, looking towards his mother as she was washing something of his father's.
"Oh, yes, I did. Make sure to tell your father so he can fix it tonight when you two get back," she told him and he nodded. He placed the eggs gently in the bowl his mother had set out for them before grabbing the coin sack that they kept hidden in the cabinets, taking the amount he knew he would need for the feed before placing it back.
"I'll be back!" Axl told his parents, who waved him out.
"Watch out for werewolves!" his mother said, obviously teasing her only child with a laugh.
"Eliza, will there ever be a full moon you don't say that?" his father asked, rolling his eyes at his wife's antics.
"Oh hush, let me have my fun Isaac."
Axl just huffed out a quiet laugh at his parents before leaving and making his way to the nearby town. As usual, he was the only one on the road this early in the morning, but by the time he was heading back, it would be bustling with others running their own errands. Suddenly a chill shivered down his spine and he paused, frowning and tensing his shoulders. He felt as if he was being watched, but a quick look of his surroundings confirmed that he was, in fact, alone. Relax, Mum was just joking before, he told himself, shaking his head before he started back up again. He couldn't shake that feeling of being watched until he reached the town square, when he finally relaxed. He quickly made his purchase and made his way back to his home without incident, nodding to his neighbors as he passed them while carrying the heavy bag of feed over his shoulder. It was mornings he had to do this that he wished his family was able to afford a horse or donkey to take the weight. He's sure it would make the task quicker too.
"Here we are," he grunted, as he dropped the bag by his father's feet, rolling his shoulder to loosen the muscles there. "Garret told me that he's got to raise the prices by 5 pence, else they'll go under."
His father sighed, patting Axl on the back. "Alright, son. Thank you for telling me. And what's this I heard about a fox?"
"Oh, something was trying to get to the hens. Figured it was that fox we keep seeing 'round here."
His father just nodded. "Well, we best get going. Don't want to be late." And with that, father and son bid goodbye to Eliza before leaving for the day, chatting as they walked to the Hawthorn estate. As they reached it, Axl went and found his friend, Thanatos, who he often worked with while his father went to the stables. Axl found his friend chatting with two of the maids, Chelsea and Stella, telling them hello before they went their separate ways.
Axl briefly wondered as he and Thanatos waited for the head of household duties if he would see Thayer before being sent away to finish repairing the fences. They were never supposed to meet, he supposed, but they had, and they had struck up a friendship in his years working for her family. A part of him wished that their friendship could be something more, but it wasn't proper. She and her sister were to be ladies and he was a poor man who's house leaked every time it rained. He sighed, leaning against the side of their great house, closing his eyes briefly. There was no point in wishing for the impossible, so he tried to push that impossible wish out of his head with very little luck.

There was a single light shining one of the windows in the east wing of the estate, third floor with a view of the surrounding forests. It had been burning for three hours before dawn. This was the personal study of Thayer Hawkthorn, and it was a common occurrence to find the young lady up at such hours. Often times, she found herself unable to sleep, so she would seek her collection of books and notes to try and remember why she was tired in the first place. Sometimes it worked, other times her efforts had the opposite effect than she intended. Today was one of those times. Within the storage of the main library, hidden away in a dusty corner of books that were deemed to hold no importance or relevance, she had stumbled across a book of legends and lore. No doubt it had been added by some great-great-great-grandparent for none of the current generation held no interest in such tales. That was one of the reasons she had rescued the copy and gave it a new home among her own books.
It was this book she had been hoping to find her will to sleep. Often times, certain books could do that to her. Given the right chair and cozy atmosphere, she could (and has on a few occasions) fall asleep before she realizes it. She had gone through these steps again, tucking herself into her favorite chair and pulling a blanket around her. Sleep, however, decided it had had enough of her company for one night. As the hours drug by, she could feel the day starting around her. While she was wide awake, she protested it’s appearance. One more hour of sleep would have been enough, but no. Now the time to face the humdrum daily routines and social games was upon her once more. A part of her wondered if she could get away with hiding out in her study all day. She could order the servants to avoid the room like the plague, bribe their silence, and possibly gain their aid to lie of her whereabouts. Yet, whatever plans she was making disappeared when a knock sounded on her door. Sighing, she let her head fall back against the chair shortly before composing herself. “Come in.”
The door opened and in walked Mei, her sister. The two were as identical as they came. Same hair, same height, same build. It was like looking into a mirror. Sometimes Thayer had to pause to making sure for herself which person she was. It was a weird feeling of displacement that she knew Mei suffered from as well. The two were close, and had often used their near identical looks for their own entertainment. Now, Mei was quick to remind her that such pranks were childish and cruel. Still, Thayer couldn’t help but think of amusing stunts they could pull had only her sister been more cooperative.
“I thought I might find you in here,” Mei stated, an amused smile gracing her features. Her voice was slightly higher pitched than Thayer’s, more delicate and airy. She spoke with a grace well practiced and used on many occasions.
Thayer closed her book and sat it on the table beside her chair. “And I was so hoping no one would find me,” she replied with a dramatic sigh. “Alas, dear sister, you found me. To what do I owe the misfortune?”
“No reason. I woke earlier than usual, and I thought you might be the reason for it.” Along with the many things they shared being twins, the two women had an uncanny ability to know when the other was having trouble resting. Mei always woke earlier whenever Thayer did. Likewise, whenever Mei couldn’t fall asleep, Thayer would toss and turn all night until she went to demand what was on her sister’s mind keeping her up.
“Nothing new,” Thayer replied, shrugging. She stood from her chair and stretched. Together, the two sisters withdrew from her study to return to her bedroom. At the moment, she was still dressed in a night gown and robe. Mei was already dressed for the day.
“This has been the third time this week,” Mei pointed out. “Are you sure everything’s alright? You normally don’t sleep this uneasy.”
“Mei, I’m fine. I promise. I’ve just been a little stir crazy,” Thayer assured her. Upon reaching her room, the older of the twins began to change. There was a simple dress of pale green fabric laid out already on one of the chairs. She quickly put it on before walking over to the vanity. From there, she worked her hair into a simple braid. “I’ve spent too much time reading, I think. I have gone out for a ride or hunt like I normally do. Just energy not spent, that’s all. I tend to change that today, so you should have a normal night’s rest tonight.”
“If you say so,” Mei replied. Thayer had no reason to lie to her. In fact, Thayer couldn’t lie to her. Both women could tell when the other was hiding something. It would do no good to sneak about or withhold information. Her sister’s words, however, seemed true enough. “I don’t suppose you’ll be joining me then to entertain the Lord and Lady of Galewood then, hm? They’re visiting today on their way back from their vacation home.”
“God, no!” Thayer replied. Fully dressed, the woman pulled on a pair of worn boots. “Tell the Lord and Lady that I’m sorry to miss their arrival, but I have other matters to attend to than losing my mind with idle chatter.”
Mei laughed and shook her head. “I’m sure I can find a way to excuse your absence,” she said. Turning, the younger sister headed towards the door. Before she left, she called over her shoulder, “Tell Axl I say hello.”
Now was Thayer’s turn to smile. Of course, Mei would have known she would be seeking out the man before the day’s work whisked him away. The two were an unlikely, and more correctly discouraged, pair, but she had taken a liking to him ever since he joined the work force of the estate. It was nice to have someone to talk with that she didn’t have to worry about pleasantries and political correctness with. In the rare moments where the two had to themselves, they were not lady and worker, they were friends. Tightening the laces of her boots, she was ready to leave.
Being as quick and sneaky as possible, Thayer managed to exit her home without running into many people. More so, without running into anyone of the upper class that would require her to stop and speak with for thirty minutes about the weather or some other unimportant topic. She used the servants’ entrance for these times in particular. It took her through the kitchen, so she wasn’t completely unnoticed on her escape. However, she came this way so often, that no one thought it was strange anymore. Only once she was outside did she relax and walk at a normal pace. There was no need to go searching for Axl for she already knew where he waited for his daily chore assignments. Sure enough, the young woman found him leaning by the wall with Thanatos.
“Good morning, you two,” she called out, grinning. “Leave it to you to be wasting the day while the rest of us get stuff done.” Of course, she was teasing. She knew that they had to await the orders of the head of the household duties before they did anything. She also knew she could override any of those orders if she so chose to, and had on several instances just because she could. It irritated Maxwell, the man who was both Mei and her tutor growing up and now trusted adviser to the family, to no end since it disrupted the flow of duties. Thayer, however, didn’t really care. It broke up the normal boring schedules, and that suited her just fine.

HELLO I AM HERE sorry I haven't been on much the past few days. It's been busy around here all the sudden because my mother won't just sit still (even with a broken ankle; love her but she needs to CHILL) I'm working on a reply right now, so expect one in less than an hour. Hopefully. If I don't get distracted again ^^'

Sorry this is on the shorter side. I've been on a roll lately with role-play posts but I can feel that coming to an end unfortunately :(
As Thayer's voice floated through the air, Axl opened his eyes and flashed her a lopsided grin. "Excuse me, but I've already been to town and back this morning!" he retorted, laughing good-naturedly. He didn't bother telling her good morning, judging by the dark circles he could just barely make out under her eyes she'd been up for a while now too.
Thanatos rolled his eyes at his friend's obvious crush, turning to face Thayer as she walked up. "Good morning, Miss Hawthorn," he said, not familiar enough with her to use her given first name like Axl was. "Well I'm going to find Maxwell. No doubt he got distracted by the kitchen staff again," he told the pair with a snort. "I'll see you later, Axl. Goodbye, Miss Hawthorn." He gave them both a small nod before walking away, whistling a cheerful tune.
Axl watched his friend leave before facing Thayer again. "Fancy seeing you out and about this morning. I thought that Lord and Lady Galewood were visiting this morning?" he asked, cocking his head to the side. He knew that she wasn't overly fond of the responsibilities she held as a member of the upper class, but surely she'd still at least greet the family's guests? Then again, Axl never could quite predict what she would do.
That was one of the reasons he liked her so much, she wasn't beholden to society's expectations of her. That and she actually treated him like a person and not a nameless servant who worked in her home. He could almost pretend that the distance between them in the social hierarchy was nonexistent when it was just the two of them; he didn't have to choose his words carefully in order to not offend her for fear of losing his job.

(First off, I hope your mother is okay, and doesn't hurt herself further, lol. Second, don't worry about it. I know that it's impossible to create super long posts all the time. Starters are usually longer anyway because you have so much to say in order to set the stage. Now we have to leave room for dialog and interactions.)
"Oh, is that so?" Thayer asked, giving a half smirk. Axl had chores not only here on her estate, but at his own home as well. No matter she she might tease him about, the young woman was aware that he had been hard at work for a while now. He had done more today than she had so far at least.
She nodded to his friend as he greeted her. "Good morning, Thanatos. I trust you've been keeping things in order," she returned. While she treated him with the same respect and openness she showed to Axl, or to anyone whom she interacted with, the two hadn't spent a whole lot of time together. It was for that fact that she didn't press him to call her by first name only. She knew that for some of the staff, that was just a bit too much. Instead, she let anyone judge when they were comfortable enough to address her as a friend instead of their employer's daughter. "If you find him, be a dear and tell him that I'll be out on a hunt today and will be taking a companion of my choosing with me. Thank you!" She felt a little bad leaving Thanatos to spread that news to Maxwell, but she wasn't going to waste time tracking him down and getting approval for her plans.
When she turned back to Axl, her face contorted into a grimace. "Lord and Lady Galewood will have to excuse my absence. Their visit is an impromptu one, decided and accepted three days ago. It is no surprise that I do not wish to cancel the hunt I have been planning and looking forward to for all of three hours ago. Mei can handle the pair enough until I return this evening." A mischievous look once more settled on her face. "And I'm not planning to stick around long enough to accidentally get caught. The parents don't know I'm leaving, and I do not wish to be faced with that lecture until later. Of course, I can't merely go hunting alone. I will need someone to help carry back and fetch what my hawk kills. I came to see if you would mind playing pack mule for me until we're off the estate."
She came to Axl first because she knew that no one else would mind wasting the day away. Any other member of the staff would allow her a few hours to hunt before recommending to return to the estate to rest or have lunch. Axl wouldn't. The two have gone on plenty of hunts in the past that have lasted longer than they should have, purely because the two both needed a break from their daily lives. Truthfully, he was the only one that could keep up with her. Thayer, while able to play the part well enough at dinner or in the presence of important guest, preferred not to be very lady-like when out on a hunt. If she was hunting, that meant she had energy to burn, thus meaning she wasn't about to pace herself and do things as a lady should. No, many trips would result in her coming back as muddy and sweaty as her horse sometimes. She enjoyed the freedom, and she wasn't going to bring someone along who would ruin it for her. Axl knew this and understood her well enough to know how she did things. He was able to keep up and give her a challenge in both sport and banter. While it wasn't proper in anyone else's eyes if she called him to join her too many times, every now and then, on the days she had completely had enough of her duties, she would pull him away from whatever job he was scheduled for, to Maxwell's displeasure, and make a day to escape it all.

She's okay, she's always been independent so being in a boot is annoying her more than anything lol. I've been helping out as much as she let's me and just driving her wherever she needs me to.
Thanatos raised a hand and waved, acknowledging Thayer's request, but otherwise didn't turn around or stop. Maxwell could be difficult, but so could he. Besides, he was just the messenger, there wasn't much the older man could do to him besides yell or be testy, both of which Thanatos would probably fling back at him. It was honestly a miracle he hadn't been fired yet, but he had a way of making people like him no matter how difficult he could be at times.
Axl grinned when Thayer essentially told the other boy that she was taking him hunting with her that day; he loved being away from everything just as much as she did and took advantage of the days she dragged him away from the physical labor he was usually assigned. Before she came along this morning he was almost positive he was going to have to start repairs for the south fence, which happened to be the farthest from the estate, and any sort of shade. At least now he could put that off for one more day. And he knew that she wanted to get away from her responsibilities, especially before her parents noticed she was gone.
"Do you even have to ask?" Axl inquired as she asked after him coming with her that day. "You know my answer is always yes." He pushed himself off the wall he had been leaning against, the motion fluid and practiced. "Do you want to take some horses out today? My father mentioned he had been working with the new foal your family has, getting him used to people and having things on his back." Axl remembered when he was a boy, before he was working for the Hawthorn family and definitely before he met Thayer, his father bringing him here to watch the horses. He had even taught Axl how to ride, though he wasn't as good as his father was; he was good enough to get by and that was all he really needed.

(Ah, I can understand that. At least she's letting you help with some things. XD)
Yes, she knew Axl wouldn't refuse. Not because he feared for his job, but for the mutual enjoyment of each other's company. He never refused an impulsive adventure she would come up with. Really, she asked more to be sure she wasn't going to be taking him away from anything important. "Never hurts to be sure. You might have surprised me and decided to work under Maxwell's ever watchful eye," she replied. She nodded in the direction of the falconry before beginning to walk in that direction.
"I was thinking of taking a horse or two, unless you actually wish to play pack mule, which I was completely joking about," the woman told him. "I doubt we'll actually need a horse to only carry our supplies since I don't plan on bringing back a large amount of game. The hunting was more of an excuse to leave the grounds. No one has to know we haven't been spending the entire time do just that. However, if your father would like us to help aid in its training, it would be a good first trip for the horse. Not many people, no hunting dogs to get all excited, light load of supplies to carry. We can ask him about it when we get there. I'll also send someone to the kitchen to pack a light lunch for us. Unless you'd rather cook something we catch ourselves. Messy business, but we can do it if you'd like to try."

Okay I know this is kind of random, but do you listen to Ruelle at all? All of her songs make me feel like I should be kicking some serious butt and beating up bad guys while I'm in my room writing a paper lol
Axl followed after his friend as she started towards the falconry, listening as she spoke to him, having to tilt his head down slightly to meet her eyes. He was taller than her, but only by an inch or so. Thanatos would tease him occasionally about being short, but then again everyone was short compared to him.
"I don't know if he's quite ready for riders yet, but we could always ask. He's still pretty young and usually my father tries to wait to get riders on young horses until they're at least a year and a half old," he explained. "He might be okay with us bringing him along and having him carry a few items, but most likely not." Around them the rest of the household chores were being performed, with a few women chatting as they were starting to hang laundry to dry. He could see a few people starting to take care of the garden and in the distance he could see who he assumed was his father walking a horse around a padlock. "I think packing a lunch is probably better than anything I could cook," he said, slightly distracted by everything happening around them.
A light breeze rushed by the pair as they walked, ruffling Axl's curled hair. He hummed in appreciation of the small act of nature, the sound a slight rumble from his chest. "Lovely day out today," he murmured, half to Thayer and half to himself.

(I have heard of her! I've listened to a couple of her songs, but not many. What I have heard are very good! Lol, I know what you mean. I have a couple of songs that make me feel like that as well. XD)
"Then we can stick to our usual horses for today," Thayer said. Even if they wouldn't be doing anything too extreme, there was no sense in taking the risk of having a young, inexperienced colt with them. Perhaps it would give them another excuse for an outing another time. With that thought in mind, she decided that would be exactly what she would do. The woman made a mental note to ask his father about it whenever they saw him next. "Come now, what better way to improve than to practice? The best motivator for learning to cook better is being tired of eating horrible meals." That was how she learned anyway.
As they walked, Thayer took in the sounds and sights of the estate as it came to life. Inside the house, staff had been up longer than she had, preparing for the day's meals, laundry, and what not so her family and herself wouldn't have to worry about it. Despite knowing they were paid well for their work, she never really felt right letting every little thing be done for her. That's why her study and bedroom was off limits to the guest. It was as much for privacy as it was a space for her sole responsibility. Her mother instilled that into both the girls at a very young age. They might have been born into a place of wealth, but it never did harm to learn how to care for yourself. Money didn't last forever, after all. By now, people were beginning their work on the estate grounds. The people created a soft background noise of productivity. However, what brought a small smile to her face was the low sound her friend emitted beside her, his rumbling hum that she knew was a sound of appreciation or satisfaction.
From the corner of her eye, she looked over at him. Luckily, he seemed distracted by those around them. She took the chance to study him. Not for the first time, Thayer had to just take him in. Had her own personal situation not been so messy at the moment, she might have let herself entertain the idea of courting with the man. That might be the most impulsively stupid thing she could do if her family were to have a say in it. They would see his low status and fear what it could do to her own. Yet in all their efforts, no eligible suitor that graced their halls had the same spark Axl had. He was funny and witty and able to give back anything she dished out, unconcerned by her station. There was no delicate word play, no poised etiquette, nothing that made a person wonder how much was real and how much was for show. Axl might not have stood out to most people in appearance, but in certain moments, she saw him in ways that could steal her breath away. Like now, for instance, as the sound of his hum faded on the breeze and she took the moment of his distraction to steal a glance his way. "Perfect hunting weather," she agreed. "Would you have any interest in taking a hawk out yourself? I'm sure no one would mind."

Sorry I’ve been MIA; things got busy around here. I’m finally finished with my summer class though, so I should have more time to get on now!! Also, if it isn’t completely obvious yet, Axl hasn’t been bitten yet lol. During my ~absence~ I was thinking of maybe them staying out too late and getting attacked and that’s when he gets bit? And then possibly fast-forwarding to a few years in the future when they run into each other again. Does that sound okay?? I'm on the struggle bus today apparently too with this reply .-.
Axl snorted at her suggestion he practiced while they were out. “I’d much rather practice in an actual kitchen, thank you very much,” he huffed good-naturedly. “Besides, I’m not very good at skinning anything besides de-feathering a chicken, and I don’t think we’ll come across any of those while we’re out today.” At his (admittedly not very good) joke, he flashed his companion an ever-so-slightly crooked smile, a small dimple appearing in the apple of his left cheek.
He was blissfully unaware of Thayer’s study of his profile as he turned away from her again, too busy soaking in the sunshine and enjoying the weather to notice. At her suggestion of taking a hawk out himself, he laughed suddenly, turning to look at her once again. “No thanks, their beady little eyes freak me out, truth be told. I much rather prefer my hunting companions to be furry and four-legged,” he told her, thoroughly amused.

(No worries, Feather. ^^ I understand that life comes first, and I wouldn't have asked you to put this plot before anything else. I'm glad to hear you've survived summer classes! I still have two or three weeks left for mine. As for your ideas, that's exactly what I was thinking was going to happen as well! So it's more than okay with me. Eh, it's fine. There's not too much that needs stating at the moment anyway. You gave me enough to work with, so it's all good. ^^ ) "And you'll never be good at it if you keep making excuses like that," Thayer told him. She knew many people didn't like the work of skinning and preparing an animal to eat that they just hunted. For some, it was a matter of they simply didn't want to make a mess. For others, they just couldn't bring themselves to do such a thing, even if they knew it could be a useful survival skill. She never pressed what reason he had, mainly because it was never that big of a deal. If it ever became the source of a life or death issue, then she would question him, however, right now it didn't matter. She was more than capable of doing it herself.
At his confession of his feelings towards hawks, they young woman let out the most exasperated gasp she could muster. It was pretty good considering she learned how to put on a lot of over exaggerated reactions over the years. "Are you saying my Salem freaks you out? How dare you!" she stated with mock insult. She knew he meant nothing by the truth. The birds were intimidating and unpredictable sometimes. They might be trained, but they weren't "tamed." If one ever got away from his handler, it would have no problem integrating themselves into the wild. The facade didn't last long, though, as a smile soon found itself back on her face. "You can take a dog with us if you want," she offered. "No one will argue."
