(Okay so I’m gonna write a thing for Amadrya. I guess if I’m doing past Amadrya I’m doing parent deaths/being taken in by her cousins
Unless we do end up doing a thing with her and Everest in which case a post about her feelings on that whole thing could be interesting.
I have no idea she’s an intriguing character.
What do you guys think you’d wanna see?)

I’m thinking Everest definitely is developing feelings for her but he hates it and I’m wondering—stop me if you hate this idea—what if his mentor sends him a note with a sponsor gift saying something about how he better not get distracted and Everest decided to ignored his feelings and kills her, but then basically falls apart bc of what he did and then when someone finds him, he just lets them kill him without a fight bc he’s so depressed)

Sapphire moved to the sidelines to observe everyone. She had a habit of moving to the shadows to watch the other tributes. However, she wasn't judging them like she had been doing. Sapphire wondered if things were normal if any of them would actually be friends. Back in District One, she didn't have many friends and those she did have were pretty fake. Everyone was competing to out do each other as they trained for the games. She hated to admit it but the girl was lonely and didn't know how to properly make friends. Her reasons for winning the games were to be acknowledged and to possibly gain some new found friends. The capitol would be her friends!
(Don't mind me I just had this urge to write something sad with Sapphire. Oh no can you imagine if the Careers actually start bonding with each other before things spiral out of control?)

Amadrya Darrow The fire-eyed maid of smoky war
You’re a real tough cookie with a long history Of breaking little hearts like the one in me That’s okay, let’s see how you do it Put up your dukes, let’s get down to it
It was the night before the Games, and Amadrya was sitting up in her bed, unable to sleep. Of all the things she thought would be keeping her up the night before the Games, she had never thought Everest Stonewell would be one of them. She was sure there was something there, something she hadn’t expected and something she couldn’t avoid, no matter how hard she tried.
It wasn’t even keeping her awake in a cute fairytale way either. She was thinking about the implications for the Games. After all, he likely didn’t return those feelings or else wouldn’t admit them, which was all for the better really because she knew the stupidity of letting fickle, superficial things like romance get in the way during the Games. It was impractical, and it would cost her her life if she wasn’t careful, especially because she knew the other careers were just itching for a weakness in her they could exploit. It wasn’t like she hadn’t seen them looking at her.
Besides, she planned to get away from the career pack before she outlived whatever purpose they had in mind for her. Any attachment to Everest would only hold her back. No, she had to hold her feelings back. She couldn’t let a boy become her downfall, she’d be letting everyone down. It wasn’t who she was. And she didn’t think it was who Everest was either if she was honest.
Her eyes moved to the projection on the wall of her room, which she had changed to woodland, just like at home in District 7.
No. She would have to control her feelings, ignore them and push them down. She had to see those forests again. After all, this was nothing but a crush. Amadrya had people at home to get home. People whom she owed an awful lot to. Amadrya cared about that. She repaid debts, she kept promises. And she owed it to her family to come home to them.
Hit me with your best shot Why don't you hit me with your best shot Hit me with your best shot Fire away
Amadrya was ten years old, just about to turn eleven. Her dark hair was in its usual braids, though far more neatly done than usual, and she wore a simple knee-length black dress, the only black dress she owned. In fact, she only owned one or two dresses anyway. She was tall for her age, and looked older than ten. But she was scrawny, despite the fact she’d been swinging an axe since she could hold one. It wasn’t surprising, of course; though 7 wasn’t really an outer district compared to 11 or 12, food was still not exactly plentiful here. The girl would bulk up considerably by the time she would find herself in the Games.
It was her father’s funeral, and the girl was on her own now. Her mother had died in childbirth and she had grown up with only her father. But he’d gotten ill, and there had been nothing anyone could do. No medicine was enough to cure it. And so that was how Amadrya stood weeping at his funeral.
But stood beside her, with one arm around her shoulder, was her uncle. He was tall, well-built, with a harsh-looking face that only seemed to soften when he looked at Amadrya or one of his three sons. The oldest was sixteen, and though he was still young and filling out, there was every sign in his appearance that he would grow to look like his father, as he was tall and broad-shouldered for a boy of his age. His younger brothers were thirteen and eleven respectively, and both were still too young to tell whether they’d grow to be built like their father. But they both had slightly darker hair than their father and older brother, whose hair was a mid-brown; their hair was closer to Amadrya’s own colour.
“We’ve got you, Maddie,” Amadrya’s uncle said softly “no Darrow goes it alone, not on my watch.”
Those words were enough for Amadrya to give her uncle a tearful hug, but it very quickly became a group hug as each brother in turn joined in. It was a very tight and uncomfortable hug, but Amadrya didn’t care. She was safe now, and although she had lost her father, her uncle didn’t ask for her to forget her grief. He just didn’t want her to go through it alone. He wanted to give her a home and a family and protect her. He wanted to honour his brother’s memory.
“We might as well have a sister,” chuckled the oldest brother as the males all broke free of the group hug
And he couldn’t have been more right. The four children grew up more like siblings than cousins, and while growing up with essentially three older brothers and having no other girls in the house had presented its own challenges, Amadrya couldn’t have asked for a better family.
You come on with it, come on You don't fight fair That's okay, see if I care Knock me down, it's all in vain I get right back on my feet again
No Darrow went it alone. Her family would be watching her every move in those Games, she couldn’t let them down. It could be said that life hadn’t been fair to Amadrya, but then it hadn’t been fair to anyone in Panem, and she didn’t think life was all that could be blamed for that. She had to keep going and keep fighting. These Games were just one more hurdle.
And she would just have to forget the way her stomach did flips when he smiled or that the Games seemed to fade into the background now.
She needed to focus, or she would die. Besides, it would ruin her image. She’d already presented herself to the Capitol as the tough warrior girl. She couldn’t then fall in love and end up playing some kind of sappy damsel in distress or something. And she couldn’t link herself too permanently to the career pack, which would inevitably self-destruct, by getting close with this boy. She needed to be able to cut ties. And she didn’t want her sponsors to sponsor her based on a relationship that would have to fail eventually. That could mean she’d lose a lot of sponsors if he died.
She needed to be that warrior girl now, the one who could take on everyone in that Arena. She had to put her mind in the right place, because the stakes were too high. Besides, she was meant to work alone. She wanted to be self-reliant and independent, that had always been her goal and it was partly why she planned on ditching the careers when the right time came.
She needed to be ready to play the Games like the fighter she was meant to be.
Hit me with your best shot Why don't you hit me with your best shot Hit me with your best shot Fire away
