Macaria Slayte The innocent flower and the serpent under it At Alessandro’s comment about Everest having a soft spot for the District Seven girl, Macaria’s eyes travelled over to the girl, who was talking to that District 8 girl she’d spoken to earlier. The District 8 girl was smart and fiery, that much was obvious, and the District 7 tribute seemed no different. Tall, strong, built like a victor and good with an axe. A viable candidate for an ally, and potentially a noteworthy threat. As much of a threat as Holly.
“District 7?” Macaria asked with a raised eyebrow and surprise tinging her voice “looks like I’m not the only one doing a little flirting.”
It was a joking tone, but Macaria noted the potential romance carefully. Another string for her to pull, another thing she could have to use against the tributes around her. This was just too easy, she had never predicted it would be so simple.
Though, when she looked at Everest the whole thing suddenly seemed more complicated again somehow.
“Everest is right, she’d make a good ally. Put an axe in her hand and she’ll be a valuable asset.”
And if she didn’t join their alliance, she’d have to be taken down, whether Everest agreed with it or not. She was either with them or against them, but either way she could not be allowed to be a threat to them.

Astrape Vetton This above all: to thine own self be true ”Well, I suppose the Capitol doesn’t forget,” Astrape murmured in response to Carlo’s words about them having to pay for the actions of their ancestors.
She had always felt bad for the people chosen for the Games, she really felt for them. But they had always felt so distant, like something that only ever happened to other people. She had never dreamed that she would be chosen for this. It still felt like some kind of dream. Or a nightmare.
“That’s true,” she agreed, before adding “and thank you, good luck to you as well. I’m sorry, too.”
She knew the chances were both of them would be counted among the twenty three who died that year. She wasn’t going to pretend any different, and it didn’t seem that he was either. It was pointless, after all.
“Listen, it’s probably not that much help but, if I can I’ll try and keep an eye out for you in the Arena.”

Amadrya Darrow The fire-eyed maid of smoky war
”I get that,” Amadrya responded “the Games have a habit of making you do things you’re not proud of.”
She chuckled at the girl’s joke about her having a soft spot for the District 2 boy, and her eyes flicked briefly over to him as he talked to the careers, before she returned her gaze back to Holly.
“Less against him, more against his district,” she joked in response.
“That sounds like it comes from experience,” she commented, before adding “Don’t worry, I won’t pry. It’s none of my business. But you’re right. My family is safe, as long as they have me in the Arena at least. I want to... it’s like you said in your interview. I want to be heard.”
She nodded along with Holly’s words about wishing to protect Burton, smiling a little about her comment about the cat. Hey, family was family, right? Amadrya didn’t question it. She did, however, shrug when she spoke about Amadrya volunteering.
“Ah, yeah. She was twelve, and I knew her family. I couldn’t just let her go in. But thank you, I appreciate it. And protecting Burton? You’re not doing anything different to what I did for that girl. You’re putting your life on the line to protect him. So, I respect you as well.”
As Holly explained the situation with the careers, Amadrya felt a gaze on her back, looking over her shoulder to see Macaria sending a glance her way. Strange.
“Don’t look now, but she’d got her eye on me as well, or so it appears,” Amadrya said “Don’t worry, I’ll try and keep safe. But I’m not guaranteeing anything. As for Burton? I’ll look out for him. If anything happens to you, he has an ally in me if I’m still alive. I’ll get away from the Careers if they’re still around. Nothing you’re doing here will be in vain, I promise you that much.”

- - - - - Carlo Valentine Carlo went silent for a while, sighing as he did. “I guess they don’t forget,” he said in response to her, looking at the other tributes.
“I kind of wish I knew everyone better, all these tributes, or did more in my life,” he admitted, glancing at the others, “It’s sad, looking out, knowing one of us will survive, and the rest will die.” He hummed, looking at the careers for a moment, and then the girls from 7 and 8. “I just look out, and I wonder the lives they’ve lived. The homes they’re leaving behind.”
He wondered how they would die, how their families would respond, and who would win. He felt bad for the winner either way, he was sure that was the worst fate to have in the games. The one to win, when everyone else died. That blood would be placed on your hands, regardless of if you killed or not. That pain, that trauma would never end, and those thoughts would last forever.
He found Astrape intriguing, but he was sure she knew too that her chances, and his own, were the lowest in these games. Sure, the youngest victor of a games may have been 14(haha Finnick), but it was rare, and would most likely never happen again.
“Right back at you, Astrape, I’m wishing you luck.”

Oh also an idea for how to have the happy future Catullus ending still spark revolution so we can do the victors kids thing if we wanted
So what if Burton writes to Mallory or talks to her at the victor tour and kinda passes on the torch to her in terms of starting rebellion?)

Astrape Vetton This above all: to thine own self be true ”I know,” she nodded in agreement, “we’re all leaving something behind. Even those who don’t have loved ones will still have something they care about, everyone does. I think if we really knew one another, none of us would be able to kill any of the others.”
That was a good thing, of course, but it was wishful thinking. Such a thing would never happen. The tributes could never know one another like that and they would never not kill one another when they were in the Arena
She didn’t see a good way out of these Games, she simply didn’t. Not even victors were happy, and she’d seen that in all of the mentors. Some had too much fondness for drink, and some were simply apathetic. Made numb by their own trauma and by spending year after year training tributes just to have them die. So perhaps it wasn’t so bad that her odds were so low. Maybe it was a secret blessing.
She knew of Finnick, the victor of the 65th Games, who had only been fourteen when he won. But he had been a Career. Tributes his age only won very rarely. Maybe once every forty years; the mentor for District 11 had only been about fourteen or fifteen when she won. Astrape didn’t see any part of her reflected in either of those past victors. She simply didn’t have whatever it took for a tribute to win that young. Still. She would try, because there was no point in giving up.
“You, too. I hope you stay safe in there.”
(Okay it’s probably time to end their little convo right?)

(Probably time to end.
Hmm, either works? I could see a note, or face to face. Both have their perks :3.
Talking would make sure it was direct, but a letter would be subtle, not as watched as him talking to her?)

- - - - - Holly Alandria “I’m determined to not let it happen to me, I don’t want to be remembered for letting them make me lose my mind and morality.” Holly responded, glancing at Amadrya with a small smile. “I’m sure it won’t happen to you either, you seem to have a good head on your shoulders.”
She laughed slightly, she could agree. She didn’t hate Everest, she didn’t know him well, she just knew from watching that he seemed nicer than most. She personally didn’t trust it, but she knew Amadrya would watch out for it. Careers were known for being traitors and manipulators. “I can whole-heartedly agree. I wonder what it’s like, still, growing up pampered, getting to spend your time training instead of working all the time?” She probably wouldn’t like that, now that she thought about it. It would leave her too much time to her thoughts, make her more of a killer.
She nodded, “Thanks,” She simply responded, she didn’t like people prying, but she didn’t care too much. It seemed those who shared her beliefs knew limits. She appreciated that. She was shocked to hear that Amadrya watched and remembered her words from her interview. “I, well, I can’t say I was expecting anyone to exactly catch that. But I guess my sentiments towards you haven’t been shy. Everyone in that capital that my words were some warcry, that I wasn’t going down without a fight, and I won’t. But you already know what I meant. I’m not dying silent in that arena.” She said, keeping her voice low. “I know you won’t either.”
Holly felt her respect for Amadrya budding even more, she honestly hoped that if Burton got killed for some reason, that Amadrya would win. Not that Holly would be able to help, she would be devastated over her friend, or dead by that point.
“That’s very sweet of you,” Holly said, smiling softly, “I’m sure her family is very grateful, and I’m sure they will be cheering you on. I know I will.” She responded, but her eyes glimmered slightly in amusement, “Burton’s the kind of guy you hate to love, and love to hate, at the same time. You want to hate him, because you want to have a chance in the games, but then he happens to have you dark humor, and you decide ‘well crap, I can’t kill him now’, if you get what I mean.”
“Thanks,” Holly hummed, looking at the careers, she felt herself smirking in their direction, waving at them, just to prove that she and Amadrya caught them staring, maybe make them agitated, before she addressed Amadrya again, “But make sure to try your best too. Watch your back,” she shot Macaria’s words at Amadrya as a warning about the careers, she was sure Amadrya would get the meaning.

- - - - - Carlo Valentine Carlo found his own thoughts circling. He knew his mother and father would be devestated. But a boy with his charisma, and his sexy handsome ways would surely not charm the tributes into leaving him alone. Sure Finnick won, but he was a charmer and a career, he wasn’t a shy flirt like Carlo. Carlo knew he stood little chance, and he felt bad for his friends and family.
But he wasn’t that scared anymore, he would do his best. If he got home, he would try to live life again, if he didn’t, maybe that was for the best. His parents deserved their full child to return, not the shell of who he once was.
And he accepted that. “See you, Astrape,” he wasn’t saying goodbye, he really didn’t want her to die, but he couldn’t afford to get attached to her, treat her like one of his younger friends. She wouldn’t be able to make it out if he did, only one victor was crowned. But still, he decided those words were best for the present time being.

At their mentioning of Amadrya Everest showed no emotion. “You mistake recruiting allies for flirting. I don’t intend on letting romance of any kind distract me in the games. It’s too dangerous of a road to walk down, so I suggest you both consider that moving forward. I could care less about Amadrya’s looks or personality, she has skills that could be useful at the beginning of the games, and we would rather have a tribute like that on our side than not.” Each word was spoken calmly, yet firmly. He approached the games with a compass of purely common sense and strategy, and he didn’t appreciate others implying that his methods were anything but. “But, given that you are both so concerned about her, I am going to go see if she has made a final decision about joining us or not. I’ll be back,” he said, before turning on his heel and making his way through the crowd of tributes to where Amadrya was speaking to the dark haired girl from 8. Giving both girls a closed lipped smile, he focused his gaze on the taller of the two. “Did you get the change to hone your throwing more?” He asked, cutting straight to the point.

(Well, they aren’t fairy lights exactly, but little star shaped ones. My sis got them for me, because I love Astronomy, and have since I was a kid. Even if it’s not my career choice, I’ll always love the stars and celestial objects. Honestly, I’ve named pets after Dwarf Planets and Astral objects, and often I’ll name characters for the night sky.
It’s also why I have a new tendency to say “Oh my stars”.
And oh my stars I am literally going to shut up now. I’m very excited, my apologies :3.)
