At Everest’s question, Amadrya looked over the building for a moment. She could free climb it but to do so would be quite risky, there wasn’t much in the way of footholds. A rope would be far safer and would show the careers that the use of the rope was safe. It wouldn’t be exactly like climbing at home but it would be fine. No, a rope would be a far better option.
“The rope is probably a better idea,” she said, “we’ve got to set up the ropes anyway. But if your way up there turns out to be blocked just let me know and I’ll free-climb it.”
She gave him the rope and stuff that Macaria has given her, and watched as Everest disappeared into the building. She adjusted her backpack a little as she waited, heading closer to the building so she could grab the rope as it came down. Provided there were no obstructions, which she didn’t think there would be but honestly you had to prepare for everything. “Alright. I’ll make sure it’s secure,” he said with a small, reassuring smile, before taking the things and jogging into the building. Taking the stairs two at a time, he quickly made his way up to the third floor, looking for a window that was cracked, since these weren’t the type that opened. When he was unable to find one that suited his desires, he moved on to the fourth floor, where he found one that had half a window missing. Setting his stuff down on the ground, Everest removed his shirt and wrapped it around his fist, before punching out the rest of the glass so that Amadrya wouldn’t get cut climbing her way inside. Brushing the glass out of the way, he then took the rope and tied it around one of the columns in the room he was in, knotting it several times with the strongest knot he knew, before tossing the rope out the window to where his companion was waiting.

Also, when Amadrya is killed, do you think she should admit her feelings to Everest or not? Chaos seems to think she should XD)

Amadrya head the glass shattering, saw shards rain down on the ground as she stood well away from the window he was breaking. She didn’t want to get cut or anything. And then she saw as a rope was let down from the building, seemingly tied very securely by Everest. The District 7 girl approached it, initially only putting some of her weight on the rope to test it. It seemed safe.
So she grabbed the rope properly and then began to use it to help her scale the building. This was a little different from what she was used to, since trees were far different to climb than this, but she would be able to handle this just fine. She was used to climbing, and heights, and upper body strength was kind of a thing in District 7. She was probably the best option for doing this of any of them.
She kept a tight hold on the rope, aware that she was climbing four stories. She wouldn’t die if she fell (unless she was very unlucky) but it would certainly put her out of the Games. People who got their bones broken and things like that didn’t tend to last in the Games.
The backpack was weighty with all of the supplies they would need for those keeping watch. It was better this way, though, because then she only had to make one trip - until the supplies ran out anyway.
She was aware of eyes upon her, definitely Macaria was watching, intrigued to see if Amadrya would make it up there. This wasn’t too suspenseful for the District 7 girl, anyway; she was doing something all of the others would have to do. Having the rope made more sense, it would be good to block off the doors to make sure only they could access the supplies. All she was doing was getting the supplies up and making sure it was safe.
3 floors to go now.
2 floors to go.
1 floor to go.
A little later she finally emerged at the window Everest had smashed, grabbing the window ledge and pulling herself in. She put the supplies she had brought in the corner of the room before looking to Everest.
“The rope seems safe; it can take my weight plus the backpack’s without any trouble so I suspect none of us should have any problems getting up here.”
It didn’t seem like it would be breaking under the weight of any of the careers, even the strongest and heaviest ones. Amadrya and the full backpack were carried without any signs at all of trouble; the heavier careers would do fine with it.

(Oh yeah, 𝕊𝕙𝕒𝕕𝕠𝕨 when we do the stuff with Burton and Holly and the careers should we do it pretty much the same as we did in the story you wrote, like Burton and her are separated, Burton is injured a few days before maybe, and then Macaria is successful this time to kill Holly? And then there’s the disintegration of the Careers after that. Obviously that stuff is a while away yet but we could always make everything you wrote up to Holly escaping canon (apart from Amadrya stays with the careers) and work from that when we come to that point later)

(*cough cough* Misery(not Ms. Zuri mind you) is a beautiful state, however our weather forecast for this week includes hail, ice, tornadoes, and heat stroke, hope you enjoyed your stay!
and dang, somehow the rain didn’t kill you, but I’m sure it attacked You.)
(Okay and onna better note, Pallas, we don’t have to do it as it was in the fic because the fic was on purposefully dramatic. And I didn’t that way so you guys could still have freedom in the plot, so let’s do whatever you guys originally planned.)

Hahaha American weather is so intense from what I hear XD Oh yeah, I get that x I think the basic sequence of events is good to work from though, though obviously a lot of the dramatic elements in the fic can be changed and/or toned down. For example I think Holly going to draw the careers away works really well with what we were planning and with Holly’s character - but the events can definitely be toned down and made less dramatic. I don’t think we have have specific plans so I’m down for any and all ideas )

(I’m do8ng good, how about you?
Also, yeah, Holly, at least in the fic, wasn’t planning on dying, she knew it was a possibility but she honestly though she could cause a diversion, but she was closer to the Careers than she thought.
May work out that way in the RP too? Maybe.)

(I’m doing pretty good x I’m thinking of doing some writing with little Amadrya (before her dad died) but I could equally do some Amadrya writing to better get to know her cousins. Not certain. Is there any exposition I could do for any of my characters and their backstories that would help with your fic? It might. Or she could just be driven to get supplies cos after all she can’t stay and look after an injured Burton forever without food and water. We’ll figure it out I think either way Holly deserves a good death. And by good I mean dramatic because there is no good death in the Hunger Games let’s be real XD)

Post by ƤαƖƖαѕ ✧ on Jun 30, 2019 15:01:08 GMT -5
(Hahaha I know XD Well we’ll go with the flow and see how it works out for the rp I’m sure it’ll be good As for my writing I may do a little bit of both, like flashbacks with young Amadrya and then possibly older Amadrya with her cousins. I may do her conversation with them after her reaping since I never covered that)

Amadrya Darrow The fire-eyed maid of smoky war
A young girl of about nine or ten - though she had always looked older than her age - perched happily in a treetop. She sat for a moment, watching the dappled sunlight dance on her forearm and listening to the whispers of the leaves rustled by the wind. She liked to imagine they were telling her secrets only she could understand. The secrets to their great strength, a strength she admired and wished to have for herself someday when she grew older. To be as strong and stoic as one of these trees when she grew older.
But for now she didn’t need to. For now she had no worries - she could enjoy childhood. She was young enough that she could forget the nights where she went to bed with an empty stomach, and that though she knew what the Games were, they didn’t bother her much when they weren’t shown on screen. Nightmares came some nights, but mostly she was unconcerned. Living a happy life.
She could see for miles from her vantage point - hills and unbroken forests for as far as she could see. It comforted her. The forest was a friend to her, a protector.
“Maddie!” a voice cried - her father. He didn’t sound concerned, though; the pair were merely playing hide and seek. Though it was a large forest the man was obviously not too concerned, knowing his young daughter was unlikely to roam far.
The little girl, unable to contain herself, let out a giggle, pressing her hand to her mouth but unable to stifle it.
“Amadrya!” her father sighed “Wherever could she be...”
There was a hint of amusement in his voice, a knowing that Amadrya did not catch, or else didn’t really care about. Of course her father was fully aware of where she was hiding.
But still she was unable to contain herself, so excited that her father hadn’t found her, that she clambered down from the tree, beaming, and ran into her father’s embrace, laughing.
“I win!” Amadrya insisted happily “You couldn’t find me”
“You’re right,” her father said “you win, Mads. And look at how high you climbed!”
And Amadrya’s father, noting that the sun was threatening to go down soon, took his daughter’s hand to lead her back to their home.
————————
Eighteen-year-old Amadrya stood before her uncle and three cousins, just after her reaping. Each male hugged her in turn; first her uncle, then the cousins, the oldest first.
The oldest of her cousins was Ackley, and he was about twenty-three or twenty-four, tall and well-built with lighter brown hair. Then there was 21-year-old Firth, who was about the same height as Ackley but far leaner, with darker brown hair. Finally, 19-year-old Linden; the tallest of the cousins, though only by a little, and far lankier than either of them.
“Trust you to volunteer for a stranger,” Ackley chuckled, causing Firth and Linden to both laugh too.
“Aspen isn’t a stranger,” Amadrya pointed out, but she was smiling a little. Only her family could possibly have drawn a positive response like that out of her at a time like this.
“If you say so, cuz,” Linden returned “but listen, you gotta leave that attitude behind, alright? Sacrificing yourself for someone else in the Arena is generally not considered a good survival strategy.”
“I gathered that, thank you, Linden,” Amadrya replied dryly
“Don’t even worry, our Maddie will win, she couldn’t not,” Firth assured “she’s far too freaking tough. We did raise her that way, after all.”
“Was that what the fighting and pranks was about as kids? Making me tough to prepare me for this?” Amadrya asked
“You bet it was,” Linden responded
But Amadrya was done with the joking now, growing serious.
“Okay, but I’m not joking now, are you guys going to be alright? You know I’m probably not going to come home, you need to manage without me. It’ll be a little tighter without my wages but I think you’ll be able to manage since you’ll have one less mouth to feed.”
Her uncle silenced her with a raise of his hand, speaking for the first time since he’d entered the room.
“We don’t need to talk about this, because you’re going to come home. You’re as much of a survivor as anyone and tougher than most. You get your hands on an axe and be brave and the rest will take care of itself. And remember, Maddie; no Darrow goes it alone, remember? We’ll be watching all the time, cheering you on.”
Amadrya nodded, and time was up. She got one more hug with each of them before they were shepherded out by a peacekeeper. And as they left she was sure she saw a tear glistening on Ackley’s cheek, a sadness in her uncle’s eyes, a paleness about Linden and Firth.
This time she would be going it alone, no matter what her uncle said.
