(Soundtrack for this RP is Just A Dream by Carrie Underwood )
(Just a bit of angsty romance/drama please jump on in)
There were 252 miles between the city and the town nearest her new home, and another 23 miles to the even smaller town where her new apartment was located. All of it was prairie, wide, flat and open, interrupted only by the interstate. There were towns along the way, of course, though "town" was a rather grand description for most of them. The names, however, were always hopeful; Harmony, Wakefield, Valhalla.
For much of the way hers was the only car on the road. Leaving the city and the bustle of rush hour traffic behind as her battered Nissan Sunny began the long journey towards new beginnings. Despite spending all of her life in a combination of picturesque suburbia and the hustle and bustle of the city and mostly enjoying the stimulation of city living, she had always found the confinement, dirt and especially the noise, oppressive. Consequently, what absorbed her most as she drove across the dusty prairie was not thoughts of the new life which lay ahead but rather a simple sense of unbridled freedom.
She'd escaped from the city. Alone with all that silent space around her, the sense of deliverance it gave her verged on ecstatic. For once her mind was clear of thoughts, her only focus was on the road unfolding before her.
About 30 miles out of town, the first town not her final destination, the ancient car began to splutter. 'No. No. No' She muttered to herself, slamming her palm against the dashboard which seemed a temporary fix for another 5 miles or so. After that the splutter became a wheezy cough, a series of worrying pops and with a final shudder, silence.
'I knew I should have traded you in' She muttered to the car, realising quite how mad that made her sound. Well this was turning out to be a fantastic idea, after a moment of resting her head in desperation against the steering wheel she clambered out to stretch her legs and assess her options.
There really weren't that many options to consider. She hadn't passed a gas station in more than 50 miles, so going back wasn't going to happen, and with no idea if there was one further along the road she didn't fancy chancing it on foot. Luckily her mobile phone still had some charge, and perhaps more importantly a few bars of signal. Not that she really knew who to call being so far from everyone she knew. The final option, wait and see if someone happened to drive past. Perhaps the most unlikely option of the three, she hadn't seen a car for hours so the chance of someone coming to her rescue now was slim.
