While I did say I was leaving the fandom, I did write these 4 giant paragraphs on my hopes for the protagonists (and Needlepaw) and I wanted to share it here before I left. Feel free to disagree or agree, idc at this point.
Those are just some hopes/ideas of mine that I typed up on the BlogClan spoiler page for Lost Stars, although at this moment it's unmodded. What about your hopes/ideas for these three, and others?
Shadowpaw – I hope he’s a morally gray medicine cat. I don’t really care for him being evil (but many, many fans would throw a fit including possibly me) but I don’t want him to be exactly good, either. A mixture of both, maybe more on the bad side of things. I kind of want to see him driven to insanity by his strong belief in StarClan, and murder cats who don’t support them, as StarClan has disappeared and apparently only he can hear them. This insanity could be helped by that one cat we saw in the prologue, who was praising Shadowpaw; they could be his “guide” and giving him advice. This leads to him eventually getting caught and him being exiled, all while the Clans are in chaos and shambles. Angry, Shadowpaw is still hopeful of StarClan and insists that they’re still there. As he spends time outside of the Clans, he eventually realizes he’s been too reliant on StarClan and that cats need to think for themselves. After thinking, he realizes that the Clans’ current way of life is what helps cause the dependance on StarClan, and how easy it is for them to argue over little things. He comes back to the lakes with one goal in mind: Revolution from old traditions, and start of new ways. Personally, I want him not to have a forbidden mate unless RiverClan spotlight. Or maybe a forbidden friendship between him and a RiverClan tom? It’d be interesting, to me at least.
Rootpaw – I want him to be dead set on becoming a warrior, with him being incredibly aggressive and such. At first he’s embarrassed of his dad Tree (which he is, as shown in the preview) and wants nothing to do with Tree; he even thinks that the mediator role is useless. As his apprenticeship goes on, he continues being tormented by Turtlepaw and Kitepaw until the “apparition” appears in the SkyClan and ShadowClan territory, causing a war between the two Clans. In the process, Leafstar (or Hawkwing or current deputy) dies. Soon Turtlepaw and Kitepaw have the idea to see this apparition for themselves. Rootpaw and Needlepaw overhear this, and Rootpaw is tormented into going with. Needlepaw says she won’t be like the reckless fool she was named after (I’m getting to that in the next paragraph) and stays behind. As they look for the apparition, Turtlepaw is separated from Kitepaw and Rootpaw. Kitepaw and Rootpaw split up and look for her, only for Rootpaw to find Turtlepaw knocked out with fresh battle scars on her. Once Kitepaw finds them, he assumes that Rootpaw did something to her, but they both take her back to camp. Kitepaw then accuses Rootpaw of attacking Turtlepaw, albeit all three are punished for sneaking out of camp. Kitepaw continuously goes on about this until it causes an uproar in SkyClan. Tree then defends his son and gives convincing evidence, which convinces some and doesn’t for others, but has calmed the Clan down for the time being. Rootpaw is beginning to grow respectful of his father after this. During this time, Turtlepaw is healing and is mentally scarred from this “apparition”. Surprisingly, with Tree’s help, she seems to be getting better but will forever be scarred because of it. At some point Rootpaw is asked by his father to watch Turtlepaw for him while he goes out on a hunting patrol (I have a feeling Tree would be helping out at this time too), and the two form a somewhat shaky but not negative bond. They eventually become close friends. Later on Rootpaw slowly realizes that using tooth and claws to fight isn’t always the correct answer, which leads him to realize that during the harsh leaf-bare, they can’t be fighting each other so much, so he decides to train to become a mediator. This helps grow the bond between Tree and Rootpaw, and eventually Rootpaw begins helping others through the harsh winter like Bellaleaf and Wrenkit (specifically Wrenkit), and others. And yes, Turtlepaw and Rootpaw are officially established as friends. Kitepaw begins to redeem himself, and becomes a close companion of Rootpaw in the process. Idk where to go with this anymore.
Needlepaw – Yes yes I know she’s not a main POV but hear me out. I don’t really care too much, but it’s sad that Violetshine never realized the truth about Needletail. The site did say that Violetshine would change throughout this arc, so I’m secretly hoping for something like this: Needlepaw wants nothing to do with Needletail, she in fact despises her and wants to be nothing like her. Instead, Needlepaw is a stickler for the code like Hollyleaf, maybe even moreso. She even comes to the conclusion that Needletail was not a good cat to Violetshine, and brought a lot of misery to the lake as well as blaming others for her mistakes. Needlepaw makes sure she’s nothing like her namesake, instead she wants to be like her grandma Pebbleshine. At some point, Needlepaw (probably as a warrior or older apprentice) confronts Violetshine about Needletail, bringing up some wounds. The bond between them is incredibly shaky at this point and Rootpaw is torn between supporting his mother or his sister. Tree is trying to keep his family together, as well as comforting Violetshine. On the day Needlepaw and Rootpaw’s ceremony, beforehand Needlepaw requests to be named with the Pebble- prefix instead of the Needle- prefix, as she’s uncomfortable sharing the same prefix as the cat she despises. Leafstar (or whoever’s leader at this point) obliges, and at the ceremony she and Rootpaw become warriors, with Needlepaw becoming Pebble(whatever her suffix will be). At some point Pebble(something)/Needlepaw and Violetshine rekindle their bond, and Violetshine eventually realizes that Needletail wasn’t great, but is just a cat. And guys don’t attack me or anything but I’m neutral on Needletail, but she’s hardly shown in a negative light so this is the perfect solution, to me at least.
Bristlepaw/frost – Honestly? I want her to become evil, or at least the main antagonist. I mean, she’s a ThunderClan cat, a female POV, and related to Firestar (although she’s more related to Princess than him). With her, I want her to keep the attitude she had in TRS. Such as her having the defiance of sticking to one Clan. I can see this as what motivates her, with her believing that if all the Clans got rid of the Warrior Code and worked together, then they wouldn’t have to fight and kill anymore. So yes. She wants peace but is an extremist about it. And she believes she’s doing the right thing by doing it. She at some point renounces StarClan as they haven’t lifted a paw to help and only spew out worthless prophecies that mean nothing. Later on, she begins forming a group that has members from every Clan for the revolt against the Clan ways. She would murder any cat who found her out who wasn’t on her side, that or she’d blackmail them if she found a way that she could do it. In general, she’d be a slick antagonist with peaceful intentions, but carries out her plan at extremes who thinks she’s doing the right thing. Later on when her group is defeated, she is about to be killed by most likely one of the POV characters or someone important. Her last words could be something like “I only wanted peace between us all…” or something similar. As a truce, they decide to keep the Clans but have open borders and allow young cats at a certain age to choose which Clan they want, and get rid of a good chunk of the Warrior/Medicine Cat code (Well the med. cat code is just getting rid of the no mate/kits rule.) in the process. At the end, Bristlepaw/frost realizes she made mistakes and is at peace with the truce. Either she ends up in StarClan or there is a place for cats who don’t deserve StarClan or the DF, or better yet she founds it.
