βGot it,β Goosefoot said, then leaned over and grabbed one of the sticks as the apprentice worked. Even without Owltuft there, it appeared she was doing a fine job. Tigerstripe would make it out just fine with Seedpawβs care. He let his tail tip rest on her shoulder a moment, as he could tell she was internally freaking out a bit.

Fawnstep took a step back and looked at Pearl, obviously a bit out of breath after everything that had happened that day. "Yes, I still want you to join. We might have death, battles that aren't worth the fight but..." Her eyes lit up as she looked to Shadefang. "We also have loyalty to each other, we protect each other no matter what happens. To die a warrior's death is an honor, for you died protecting the ones you love." She shook her head and looked back to the white she-cat. "Anyways, there's more to clan life than just that, you can relax easier knowing you won't have to struggle for food anymore...We would find it for you. We take care of our elders above all else. We also have kits in the clans, do you like kits? They need someone to keep them busy."

Pearl's face seemed disinterested as she listened and looked between the two she-cats with a flick of her ear. Then she sighed and shook some of the dirt from her claws. "It sounds a lot easier for an old cat in there than out here, I'll tell ya that," she said with a rasping laugh. "As for kits, I've hardly been around the little things, but as long as they don't bug my ear off we'll be fine." Then she turned back to Shadefang and Fawnstep. "Let's get these two in here, and I'll cover them up while you bring the other two."

Emberpaw gave a small nod to her and sidestepped to let her through to the nursery. "I'll see if there is anything in the fresh kill pile for you" She hadn't been sure if anyone had gotten a meal today, with all the 'excitement' she wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. Without waiting for a reply, she bounded off back into the camp to check on the pile. To her disappointment, she found it to be mostly trampled from the battle. She was sure that there was some that could be salvaged but at the same time giving Brambleflower a trampled mouse might be in bad taste. Emberpaw's tail flicked a bit staring at the ground for half a second. Part of her felt like just running out of camp to catch one-maybe two if she was lucky-pieces of fresh kill might not be the most productive use of her time but she couldn't find it in her to care all that much about what was the best use of her time. So Emberpaw turned around quickly and started to pad out of the camp only pausing to say "I'll be back with something to eat" to Brambleflower.

Fawnstep gently put Badgerpaw's body in the grave and looked to Shadefang once more, wondering if they should say something in honor of the cat's they were laying to rest. "Badgerpaw was about to be a warrior, I hope Starclan realizes this." She whispered, pressing her nose to his now cold pelt. "I hope he knows that the clan will forever remember his name. Along with Nightwish's. And Dappleleaf." She whispered, nodding to Shadefang that she should put Nightwish in the ground now.

Shadefang nodded back and moved Nightwish's body into his own grave. "Nightwish and Dappleleaf were very brave, coming here from CedarClan," she muttered after a few moments of finding the right words. "But we know they'll forever be FogClan warriors." She didn't stare at the graves for very much longer, though. Unlike some of their Clanmates, they had never met until they came to FogClan, so it was hard to be too upset over their deaths. But they were still Clanmates, and it hurt to see them go. At least they were with StarClan. She looked at Fawnstep and motioned her head toward camp. "Let's go."

Fawnstep spared one more look to them before nodding and running up to her. "So are you coming with us, Pearl? Fogstar isn't...the best right now but we can still take you to the clan with us and settle you in if you'd like to join." She was still unsure if Pearl was willing to join them, but she'd like her to. It'd give them an extra set of paws with the..what seven kits now? Too many for her liking.

Pearl stared at Fawnstep and Shadefang, then let out a defeated sigh. "You're quite the persistent one, aren't you?" she said, a quiet rumbly purr rising in her throat. "I'll come join your little Clan. But are you sure this is the right moment for me to just waltz in there?" It sounded like everyone would be too busy caring for their wounded.

Fawnstep tsk'd at her. "Of course it's a good time. the clan might even enjoy an older figure being there. For now I think we could fit you in the nursery, there's plenty of room in there for you and the queens are rather friendly." She began to walked to the clan as she thought of Cloudsplash and Brambleflower, yes the queens might be a bit hesitant but when they saw she was older they'd probably be welcoming. "I'll talk to Ashpelt about the permanent living arrangements for you, by the way."

Ashpelt finally nudged Gingerstripe, getting the orange tabby's attention. When he looked up, his pained expression broke the gray deputy's heart. "Come on, Gingerstripe," he murmured, licking his nephew's ear. "It's time to bury her. Go get your sister." While Gingerstripe went off to retrieve Hollycloud, Ashpelt hauled his own sister onto his back. He was shocked by how light she was now and how cold her fur felt. A few stray drops of blood stuck to his pelt as he began to carry the tortoiseshell towards the camp entrance. Behind him, Hollycloud and Gingerstripe fell in step as they made their way to the cedar tree. He knew that as deputy, he should have stayed in camp until everything was organized again, but Ashpelt couldn't just make his sister's kits bury her alone.

Snaketooth contemplated it, wondering if it would be good for him to leave the camp to see Nightwish's new grave. He nodded his head slowly and wrapped his tail over her back, making sure she was close enough that her pelt was against his the whole time. "Let's go, I think I should say goodbye but I don't want to do it without you. I know you didn't know him all too well but I think you two could have been very good friends."

Brambleflower nodded silently, her eyes following Emberpaw as the ginger she-cat left camp. On any other day she would have stopped Emberpaw and told her that she could do it herself in the kindest way possible, but she just couldn't bring herself to protest. She padded into the nursery, her head hanging low. Cloudsplash and her kits were inside, likely scared, but from what she could see they were unharmed. As soon as she entered, there was a small squeak from the back of the den, and Honeykit came scrambling towards her, his fur on end and his tail stuck straight up into the air. He collided with her forelegs with a grunt, but threw himself straight into her fur and rubbed his cheek against her. For the first time since the battle had ended she was aware of the blood that coated her and the wounds that Reedclaw had left behind.

Cherrykit peeked her head out of the nest as soon as the noise had died down, she looked to Brambleflower with wide eyes as she saw the blood covering her mother. She let out a loud squeal as she darted back under and hid beneath the nest, trying to hide from 'the big scary cat' inside her den. She couldn't believe it was her mother, she didn't want to. She was kind, smelled sweet and like milk...not like strange rancid smells and covered with...whatever that was. Her whole body was trembling horribly as she sniffled from her hiding spot. She knew it looked like her mother, and it might even sound like her...but she had never seen her like this in her life.

"Cherrykit, come out, it's alright," Brambleflower murmured, her voice low with exhaustion. Her heart had seized the moment Cherrykit darted away from her, and she glanced down at her matted fur. She watched as Honeykit tottered over to Cherrykit on unsteady legs, softly mewing to convince her that it was indeed their mother who had just entered the den. "It's not mine," she mumbled, half to herself. That was true, most of it was Reedclaw's and that other cat's - that skinny calico who she'd sent flying with her tail between her legs at the beginning of the battle - but she knew she had wounds of her own somewhere. She began to lap at her fur, wincing when the metallic tang of blood coated her tongue.

Cherrykit backed out of her hiding and carefully made her way over to her mother, sniffing at the blood on her fur and looking up at her. "Why did those cats attack us, mommy? Aren't we good kitties?" Her voice faltered, eyes wide with fear still and she seemed to be on the verge of bursting out crying again. She shook in her pelt, they were good kits, good kits always were safe weren't they? They didn't get hurt...

Brambleflower paused her ministrations, wincing as her newly exposed wounds met the cool air. She leaned down to Cherrykit and gently nosed her cheek, a rusty purr rising in her throat. "They were bad cats, Cherrykit," she mewed softly, "horrible, evil cats who only know violence." She contemplated telling Cherrykit the truth - perhaps it would serve as a valuable lesson to her kits, one they could take on board so they would not grow to be naive and blissfully ignorant.
She made her decision. "They were CedarClan cats - Clan cats like us, but different. Your uncle Tigerstripe and I grew up there, when it was a nice place to live. Fogstar was our leader for a short time, but an evil cat chased him and uncle Tigerstripe away, with many of our other Clanmates. Kitepaw had just been born, so I had to stay. When Kitepaw and I escaped from CedarClan, the evil cats came after us and followed us here because they wanted to get us back and hurt Fogstar." She did not mention Reedclaw. No, these kits will never know who he was. As far as they're concerned their father died a long time ago.
"But they're gone now, Fogstar and Tigerstripe and all the other warriors chased them away and made sure they won't ever come back," she soothed. Cherrykit's question still plagued her mind - she had not quite answered it. "There are awful cats out there who like to hurt others, and who aren't kind. When you're older, you may have to fight the bad cats-" I hope they never have to lift a paw in the name of violence. "-but you'll always be on the good side, so you'll have all of your Clanmates to help you."

Although it took Rivershade a while to get all the way down the mountain with the body of a much larger cat, he eventually reached the large cedar tree by the river. While not surprised to see Fawnstep and Shadefang, the presence of a third cat startled him, and the fur along his spine bristled in alarm. "Who's this?" he called out, letting go of Redtuft's scruff to indicate the white she-cat. He tried not to appear hostile - this cat looked to be helping them, after all - and calmed the fur along his spine. He dragged Redtuft over to the riverbank and finally was able to drop the heavy tom. "Brambleflower got herself into a hissy fit about this one - said he saved her life or something." He shrugged, his voice rather deadpan as he spoke.

Fawnstep gestured with her tail to Pearl. "This is Pearl, she will be joining our clan as an elder and she's been helping us bury the dead." She looked down to the body and nodded, knowing somewhat of the tom but still very little. "We can prepare another grave for him now, do you know if someone is bringing down Dappleleaf?" She asked, turning back around to head towards the Cedar Tree.

Rivershade frowned, pausing to think for a moment. "Not sure, but Ashpelt, Gingerstripe and Hollycloud were with her so I'm assuming they're bringing her down soon," he meowed. He flexed his claws, his paws sore from the trek down the mountainside. Wait, this cat's going to join us? He swung around to look at the white she-cat; she was definitely older than any other cat he'd seen for a long time, but he wasn't so familiar with the concept of 'elders' considering the Clan had never had any.
"Nice to meet you," he greeted her with a respectful dip of his head, "I'm Rivershade, a FogClan warrior."
His gaze flickered to the freshly-filled mounds of dirt by Fawnstep's paws, quite obviously where Badgerpaw and Nightwish now lay buried. The grey tom moved to another spot, a little way's away from the other graves as though to signify that Redtuft wasn't exactly of FogClan, and began to dig. "There are other bodies still in camp, but I'm assuming we're throwing those off the mountain or something. Duckfoot took a body out to the cliff edge and just left it there. Then there was that freak of a cat - that really big one with one eye - but I don't think anybody's touched his body yet."

"Too bad we don't have any of that bright orange stuff...I saw it on my old two-leg's...uhm crazy, almost magic box type thing. They were throwing stuff in it and it just vanished..." She twitched her whiskers in amusement, remembering how the two-leg's would keep it playing while they left doing Starclan knew what. "Tossing them over suits me just as well, far enough from camp where it won't stink it up but also out in the open so crows can get them." She seemed satisfied with this, letting out a low purr.

"Never been a fan of twolegs or their crap, but I wish we had some of that too," Rivershade hummed in agreement, looking up briefly from where he had now dug a shallow hole in the ground. While they'd only had three casualties on their side, CedarClan had had several more and their bodies littered the camp. Rivershade couldn't wait until they were gone (if you asked him, he'd say the best thing to do would be leave them to rot in the forest like crowfood) and the darkness hanging over the camp dissipated.
He glanced at Pearl, who was stood about a tail-length away from him. "Have they told you what happened?" he called out.

Pearl lashed her tail at Rivershade but didnβt bite back in response; honestly she was much too tired and hungry. When he asked her about the bodies, she shook her head. βNot enough. I know there was a battle, but I still donβt know what FogClan and CedarClan are,β she said, rather annoyed with how little information sheβd been given. And they just wanted her to waltz right in after such a huge battle?

Seeing the commotion going on outside the cave mouth Owltuft took off.Carrying a bundle intended for Fogstar he shouldered his way through the cats till he saw Seedpaw.Quickly dropping the bundle of herbs he rushed to Seedpaw side.Assessing the damage he frowned trying to identify the poor cat.A small gasp escaped his mouth when the realization hit him.Oh Starclan it's Tigerstripe! Leaning over he lightly pressed a paw against Tigerstripe leg. There would be small chance of him ever walking based on how many fractures he had.βSeedpaw when you wrap the leg align it straight" he said as lifted one of the legs."Goosefoot keep that stick still as you can."

Rivershade's gaze flickered uncertainly between Fawnstep and Shadefang and the white she-cat Pearl. Was it his place to tell Pearl? Probably not, but he figured nobody would particularly care. "They're just groups of cats called Clans. We have a leader, a deputy, a medicine cat who treats our wounds and stuff - ours comes with an apprentice, which is like a medicine cat in training; then there's the warriors, who hunt and fight and train warrior apprentices. We've got queens and kits, too. We look out for each other, hunt together, protect one another. We live in a camp up on the mountainside." He pointed vaguely upwards with his tail. From where they were he could barely even see the mountain, but he figured Pearl would get the gist of what he meant.
"CedarClan's a Clan too - or, they were, I guess. Their leader is dead, and we killed or drove out the rest of their warriors. They were bad news, so we put an end to 'em." He'd never encountered a CedarClan cat before the battle, he'd just gone along with what everybody else was saying and figured they were in the right because they were his new Clanmates. Rivershade hadn't been a member of the Clan long; in fact, he'd joined while Ashpelt and the others had been off rescuing Gingerstripe and the others.

Emberpaw picked up the pace once she was out of the camp, wanting to be as quick as possible. She doubted the fight would really mess with her hunting all that much, while she wasn't the best hunter she at least knew what she was doing. After all, she has been an apprentice for nearly six moons at this point. After just a little bit of roaming she managed to get a whiff of a vole, carefully and as softly as she could manage towards the scent. Crouching down the moment she saw the creature she took a few steps forward, though miscalculating when there was a sting on a minor cut from the battle. The vole immediately heard her and darted off before she could even try to pounce. Emberpaw let out a small hiss in frustration, trying to shake it off before continuing her search. Everyone loses a piece of prey every once in a while. The next mouse she found, she stepped on a twig which made it dart off-and to add insult to injury it darted under her paws and away before she could swipe at it. It's alright, she's an apprentice, still learning the ins and outs. Oh that's a rabbit, maybe she could catch it. A small gust of wind letting the rabbit catch her scent had other ideas. After finally catching a mouse, she decided that she was going to try to catch a few more pieces for any other hungry cats. There were still other queens and after everyone's hard work she was certain they would appreciate it. So she buried the mouse where she was at, padding away. Emberpaw was barely able to scrape by another mouse and vole, feeling a bit proud of herself for managing to get them, all that was left was to get the mouse she left. As it so happened, it seemed a hawk had the same idea and she just barely got back in time to see it fly off with her mouse. Blood just about boiling, Emberpaw picked up the prey that had fallen out of her mouth when it went slack in just complete shock and started her angry trip back to camp, ears flat against her head and her tail flicking back and forth wildly.
(is it terrible of me to have waaaaay to much fun writing her suffering like this?)

"I'm sorry we didn't tell you more, Pearl. It slipped my mind, honestly." She looked to Rivershade, thankful for his explanation of the clan life. "You most likely will need to take on a warrior name too when you join our clan, if that's alright. I'm sure if you want Fogstar can keep Pearl involved in it somehow." She shifted her paws, trying to not seem anxious. She felt like feather brain though, why didn't she tell her more? It was really important!

Gingerstripe pushed through the shrubbery, finally arriving at the cedar tree with what remained of his family. However, he froze at the sight of a stranger in front of him, standing with a couple of his clanmates. He glanced between the faces, then, deciding the stranger wasn't dangerous or hostile, padded towards the fresh graves in front of him. "We'll bury Dappleleaf ourselves," he stated simply, gently lowering his mother to the ground. As soon as he did, he and Ashpelt went to work digging a hole a few tail lengths from the other graves while Hollycloud stared at Dappleleaf with dull eyes.
