I think, a great way to potentially get new members and to expand possible affiliate options, would be to add an advertising forum. It would be guest friendly and it would be up to the staff here if they wanted to allow this site to be a single advertisement (post once, no bumping) or a site that allows up to (let's say) three max times to re-post their site's ad.
I've seen a lot of sites (ProBoards and JCINK for example) that have seen an increase in both guest traffic and new members within weeks from posting on a secondary site.
I'm not sure this is something the moderators would like to do, as someone, maybe even a junior mod or two, can keep an eye on the forum. Maybe they can lock a thread or move it to 'accepted/approved sites' or just lock it after it's been confirmed the site is either active or meets certain (our site)'s criteria.
Not sure, but maybe it's something to consider.
