hi! im trying to do some coding and im failing miserably, even with help from the guides. whenever I try to put border code into my text, it messes up the rest of the coding what i'm trying to do is slap a 3px dashed right border with hex code 796947 onto the following text, and not so it presses right up against it--im thinking like 20 px to the right of the text help/explanation would be greatly appreciated!

Mmkay, so the code for what you want is this. It should go directly before the text you want border-ed - keep it as a separate div to avoid it conflicting with the rest of the code.

I did notice though that you've got some messy/redundant bits of code in there which could be causing your problems. If you like, I could take a stab at cleaning it up?

right, but whenever ive tried doing that, i go to preview and nothing happens, when i go back to BBC its gone
and the extra stuff, i get rid of it and when i go to preview and go back, it returns like the plague

when i try to put it in, it separates the spans and then the italicized text as well as doing weird formatting to the blocks
what is happening

To put the border around the whole text, try putting the code just after the div tag where you specified the padding. Cleaned up version is here. Most of what I did was move the font, alignments and colour to the top of the code and then delete all the font and alignment tags in the middle of the text, other than around the title. Think about it like setting a default font for the code box - unless you add different tags around specific text, like the title, the font etc at the top of the code box will affect all the text in the box.
