Out of instinct, Streamsplash stretched out her tail to touch the tom gently for comfort. "No, we wouldn't," she mewed gently, speaking up for the first time since they headed out. "Every cat chooses their path." Immediately after the words were spoken, she realized how ironic they sound. Mousedung, now we've gotten back to where we started, she thought to herself crossly. "But we must guide them when we can," she added a little hesitantly, giving her brother a stare as he was twisting his whiskers in amuse, obviously regarding it funny that she'd got into the trouble she warned him about previously.

Stormstrike stayed silent, but he appreciated Streamsplash trying to comfort him. The sound of birdsong interrupted his thoughts, and he let out a sigh of relief. "Go on and hunt," he told the pair.

(Oh.......I was wondering if they'd be fishing?)
Relieved that prey was spotted at the right time, Streamsplash turned away from the patrol and started sneaking up towards the birdsong. Unfortunately, the bird seemed to be perching somewhere high in the trees, indicating a high climb to get it down. I'd have to give it a try, she sighed. She approached the tree as silently as she can, climbing the lower tree trunks carefully, then rushed towards the upper branch--yet missed. She leapt back to ground, frustrated, then stalk up to look for prey elsewhere.
Wiltheart headed towards the opposite direction; he was padding towards the lake. He was looking forward to a peaceful fishing time on his own, using his own shadow as the lure. He felt satisfied when he saw smaller fish started gathering towards him as he sat down, but decided to wait until bigger ones come near.

(Whichever works, honestly.)
Stormstrike took the time watch for any sign of trespassers. Silverstar had been right about one thing, and it was that RiverClan needed to be protected at all costs. Especially now. His thoughts were later consumed with worry for his mate. "Stop that!" he muttered to himself. "Everything's fine."
From the bushes, a young pale brown she-cat was watching Streamsplash hunt. Leaf longed to join a Clan, having grown up on hearing stories from her mother and Fox, though his tales had been more favorable when it was just the two of them. In her mother's group, it might as well had been every cat for herself.

Streamsplash glanced around, a little confused, as she felt as though being watched. Could it be? But they were still some distance from the borders, and it would be definitely bad news if they'd come this far. Deciding it'd be best that she carry on hunting as though she hadn't noticed, she checked the air to see if there are prey elsewhere, ignoring the faint scent of cat outside RiverClan.
Meanwhile, Wiltheart had caught glimpse of a minnow and was lucky enough to scoop it up from the water in time. He placed the fish carefully on the bank before turning back to his seat and waiting for more prey.

Leaf wanted to get closer, and a part of her was even tempted to ask the RiverClan cat if she could assist her in her hunt, but instantly thought against it. She was sure her mother would be furious if she ever found out. Best I leave now before I'm caught, she thought.
Until she stepped on a twig. Mouse dung! So much for being stealthy.

Streamsplash whisked around at the sound, fur brisling. She pounced at where the snap came from, finding herself face-to-face to a pale brown she-cat. "What do you want?" she demanded, a growl rumbling in her throat.

Whitepaw was snapped out of his squinty daze upon hearing his mentor's voice. His eyes seemed to instantly adjust to the daylight, focusing on the older cat. He instantly perked up, a smile spreading across his face. "Of course!" he exclaimed, nearly bouncing on his paws in excitement as he said so. "What're we gonna do today?" he asked, unable to hold back from doing so.

She knew what to do when encountering a Clan cat: run as fast as the wind. But now she felt frozen in place. This cat was much bigger and more experienced than her, after all.

Come, let's head for the stream."

The fur along Streamsplash's spine flattened a little when she spotted the smaller she-cat's reaction. Maybe I've overacted. This cat doesn't look like a spy, though she surely was sneaking on them, but she didn't seem to mean any harm; she seemed to have come alone, and was totally unprepared for a fight, which convinced Streamsplash that the cat wouldn't possibly pose a threat to the Clan. And Streamsplash didn't want to bring this cat back to camp and cause more fear; the tension in the Clan is high enough right now. Maybe it'd be best that she pretended nothing'd happened.
With a gentler tone she mewed to the trepasser, "Are you one of Frost's group? You shouldn't be here. RiverClan's territory doesn't welcome the cats who turned against them. You should probably leave as soon as possible, for your safety." After a short pause she added, "And don't get caught next time. Not all cats are going to let you get away this easy!"

Leaf dipped her head. "Thank you. I was just passing through. It won't happen again!" The words came out rapidly as she backed away from the older cat. Thank goodness I ran into a nice one. She got to her paws and ran as fast as she could, passing an approaching Stormstrike in the process.
The deputy's eyes widened when he saw the young cat and growled. Turning to Streamsplash, he hissed, "Don't just stand there! Help me catch her!"

Mixed emotion whirled in Streamsplash' head when she saw the deputy in the young cat's way. Oh, I hope he didn't see me letting her away, she thought bitterly. Yet as she went after the rogue she couldn't help but mew, "Is this really necessary, Stormstrike? She's young and probably end up here just by accident!"

Stormstrike glared at her. "Are you trying to undermine me, Streamsplash?" There was a challenge in his voice. He realized he was beginning to sound like Silverstar, but orders were orders. And besides, he wasn't about to take any chances. If there was one rogue, that meant there were probably more of them.

Streamsplash's fur fluffed up, but she held her tongue and hurried after the rogue. "It seems like we're out of luck," she muttered as she approached the young cat. "We'll have to bring you to Silverstar."
Wiltheart's ear pricked up as he picked up faint sounds of the dispute from where the patrol parted. Is there trouble? he put down the fish he'd caught, burying them in the burrow he dug, and headed towards the source of voices with hesitant. I hope it's just my imagination.

"Come here, young one," Stormstrike meowed gently as he approached the panting rogue when he finally caught up to her. "We won't hurt you."
Leaf hissed and unsheathed her claws, trying to come off as intimidating as possible. She wasn't about to go down without a fight. "As if I'd believe that!" Perhaps the older she-cat would have more pity on her. "Please! You let me go once. Surely you can have mercy on me again."
Stormstrike's ears perked, and he turned his attention to his Clanmate. "I'm sorry, what did she just say, Streamsplash?"

"Err...I'm pretty sure she'd gotten something wrong," Streamsplash mewed nervously, intending to beg the young cat to cover her up through her glances. "I'd better escort her to Silverstar, shouldn't I?" she mewed, wishing to turn the deputy's attention away.
By this time Wiltheart had approached them, eyes widened as he see the scene. He was still several tail-lengths away from them, but he could see the intruder clearly enough, and started to guess that his sister's gone into some trouble again. She seems to have some difficulties to stick to the warrior code at some situations, and Wiltheart knew dealing with intruders was one of those circumstances.

"Are you loyal to RiverClan or not!?" Stormstrike growled as he continued to glare at the younger warrior. "If you see a strange cat, you are to take them to me or Silverstar immediately. Don't give them the chance to get away!"
All according to plan! Leaf took the deputy's distraction as an opportunity to disappear through the trees and back her mother's camp. Clan cats are so simple.

This is definitely unnecessary...... Streamsplash sighed secretly in her mind. She was pretty sure it'd do no harm to let the young cat run away, for she had already given her the clear idea that this was RiverClan's territory. Yet rules are rules. "I'm sorry, Stormstrike," she mewed eventually, her tail drooped. "I apologize for letting her run away at the first place. May we escort her to the camp, now?"
As he spot the stranger she-cat sneaking off, Wiltheart started to follow her trace. I will not follow Streamsplash's mistake, he thought. He won't let that she-cat get away. She could mean trouble, and trouble is best eliminated when it was still small.

Stormstrike sighed, forcing himself to calm down. "Yes, of course." He was going to turn back to the rogue, but then gasped to find her gone. Another rule: no scolding while dealing with a possible threat, he thought to himself, digging his claws into the ground as his annoyance returned. He could almost hear the rogue laughing at him.

Wiltheart stopped at the boundaries, frustrated to find that the she-cat had already head out of their territory. Mousedung! She might pose a threat. Sighing, he retreated to his bank and gathered his prey before heading back to where he assumed Stormstrike and Streamsplash were.

"Go find your brother," Stormstrike told Streamsplash. "We'll report this to Silverstar when we get back." Hopefully she won't claw our ears off, he thought. The last thing he needed was to have his leader angry with him.

"I'm here," Wiltheart mumbled through his mouthful and chinful of prey. He dropped the fish he was holding between his chin and chest, indicating for Streamsplash to pick it up. Sighing, Streamsplash helped carry the prey her brother had caught and turned to the deputy, waiting for the sign to return.

Stormstrike nodded. "Good. Now let's get back." The deputy started padding back to camp and glanced at Streamsplash with a tinge of guilt. Maybe he shouldn't have been so harsh on her. Still, she should know better by now.

Streamsplash and Wiltheart followed the deputy quietly back to camp. I wonder how Stormstrike will report this to Silverstar, Wiltheart thought, while Streamsplash had her mind on the younger cat, wondering if the she-cat really meant harm. Somehow, I have the feelings she'd be back again. But she obviously wouldn't dare to voice her guess.

Silverstar awoke from her nap when Stormstrike entered her den. "What is it?" she asked her deputy.
Stormstrike dipped his head. "We're sorry to disturb you, Silverstar, but Streamsplash and I caught a rogue on our territory."
The leader's ears perked at this. This was good. If this rogue was a member of her sister's group, then perhaps she could use this to her advantage. "Bring them to me, then. I wish interrogate to them."
Stormstrike flattened his ears. "That's the thing, Silverstar. She got away. Streamsplash let her go at first, and thenโ"
"What!?" Silverstar narrowed her eyes at Streamsplash. "What do you have to say for yourself?"

Uh oh. Picking her words carefully, Streamsplash mewed nervously, "She's no more older than an apprentice, and she came alone. I figured she happened to trepass by accident, so I let her go after warning her not to come near again. I thought that would be a warning clear enough, so...." she studied her paws, crunching her shoulders in advance as she expected to be yowled at.

StarClan, give me patience for such incompetence, Silverstar thought, trying to stay calm. "That doesn't matter, Streamsplash. You should know better now than to let intruders go. We can't afford to do so, not now." Unless... this little incident means you're not loyal to me. she added silently, once again wondering if any of her Clanmates were spies or would turn traitor. Streamsplash always had trouble following the rules.
