Is it really against clan culture (or whatever yall wanna call it) to use the clan name in a warriors name? We've had a few instances where it was used,,,
Runningwind for example. As well as the five leaders but I mean that make sense.. Now we have Shadowkit.
so, do you guys think it's wrong for cats to gain names with the clans name in it?? Even if it is either a prefix or suffix?
I'm sure there are other cases
imagine a cat named Windshadow, or Thundersky
idk, i just wanna hear your thoughts. Do you think it should be added to the code that no cat be named after the clans? (Including Starclan, unless you're a leader.) And what do you feel about cats having the Moon- prefix? (or suffix, even)

I don’t know anymore. At first it seemed like a matter of not using them out of respect, but they must have slipped up with Runningwind. Then they just stopped caring.

According to Vicky, it isn't allowed, though there have clearly been exceptions. Another thing to keep in mind is that cats named after a certain Clan aren't usually in the Clan they're named after, like how Windflight was named for his WindClan heritage, but was born in ThunderClan. The only exceptions are Skywatcher and Shadowkit, but Skywatcher had been born long after SkyClan fell and Shadowkit had been born outside ShadowClan and Dovewing wasn't even completely sure of going back at the time of naming him.
Suffixes seem to be perfectly fine, though. Vicky also said that Sun- and Moon- are to be used on occasion. And speaking of Moon-, just to clarify, it's not because it's sacred. The only reason it isn't used often is because it would imply that a cat was prettier or more special than their Clanmates.
As for me, I don't really care all that much. It's not like it's actually hurting anyone by doing this.

At first I thought in universe it was disrespectful to use Clan names in Warrior names. In the case of Runningwind's name, I just chalked it up to the world building still being figured out, which meant the naming rules were still being decided. So this meant his name sort of slipped through the cracks. After all, before AVoS we haven't had a Clan name in a warrior name sense. However with Shadowkit suddenly existing I'm not entirely sure anymore. But in that case it could just be the editors being careless.

I personally believed cats in a different clan would gain the clan they came from/their parents might've come from. Like, wasn't that the case with Runningwind? Wasn't one of his parents from Windclan, so they made it evident in his name that he was half windclan?? I might be wrong, but i could've sworn there was a reason for the name

Runningwind was Mousefur's brother and the son of One-eye and Halftail. Like I said, suffixes seem to be fine, and the cats don't really seem to care either way regardless if it's a prefix or suffix, otherwise it would've at least been commented on if it were actually an issue, but it never is.

I don't really care too much about cats with prefixes like Shadow-, Thunder-, or Sky- tbh, same goes for suffixes. I don't like Shadowkit's name mainly because he most likely has a prophecy about him when this happens in Tigerheart's Shadow: Spire(sight) receives a vision saying that Shadowkit will see into the shadows or something like that. Honestly, it irritates me for that reason. It's this quote:
""This one will see into the shadows."" - Spire's thoughts on Shadowkit, Tigerheart's Shadow page 360
I don't mind Shadowkit's name, but I don't like how he was basically given a prophecy about himself and it was very obvious including the fact that his name is Shadowkit.

I personally love using the name Moon as both prefix or suffix...but the five clan names shouldn't be used (imo). Those were the names of the FOUNDERS. That should have stayed special...sorry Shadowkit lmao

I don't think the five names should be used just because. Runningwind was probably a mistake, but a character like Windflight? I get that. I'm not fond of moon being used because we have Moonpool/Moonstone. It feels more sacred than sun.

Surely suffixes are fine, I can understand not naming your kit Thunderkit or Riverkit though.
