If you're otherkin, fictionkin, or therian then this is the place for you! I want this to be a friendly place for otherkin to hang out and talk with each other. Come say hello!
Trolls or spammers will be reported and drama needs to be settled privately. Keep in mind that you may meet doubles here.
For those who don't know what otherkin are... well, there's no one official definition. Most simply, they are people identify as non-human. They could identify as animals, deities, and many other things.
Fictionkin is a sort of sub-group/sister-group of otherkin where people identify as fictional characters. These characters may be human or otherwise.
Therians are similar to otherkin and some treat the words as interchangable. Therians identify specifically with animals, and I believe that is limited to animals that exist in our world.
Sometimes this is a coping mechanism for those with mental disorders, and other times it is not. Many use their belief in past lives and/or multiple parallel universes to explain their kintypes, while some simply believe that they physically are their kintype. This is not restricted to young people or people with mental disorders and it is also not a new belief. While the term otherkin dates back to the 1990s, similar ideas have existed in multiple cultures all over the world since recorded history began, and possibly before.
(If I've got any of this wrong, someone let me know!)

I'm legit a Red Fox therian. Although I try to avoid bringing it up, because you get made fun of, and most other-kins aren't Christian and don't accept Christian Therians.

Hi, GhibliQueen! I think that anyone of any religion should be welcome. In a group that is bound to get made fun of we need to stick together. It's really cool to meet you! Coincidentally, I've always sort of wondered about being a red fox therian, but I haven't really given it much thought. Most of my friends are fictionkin so that's what we tend to talk about.

Fictionkin are pretty cool- and it's always been something I've been curious about. Identifying with a fictional creature seems quite usual to me. My belief is that I was a Fox in a past life, and although I'm Christian I believe in the act of being reborn or reincarnated. I've had flash-backs of a past life as a Red Fox (Or red fox like creature, it's not quite clear) when I'm meditating or simply standing in the forest. What's it like for you?

Hi! I hope sand as I alleviated a little relief to your thread. ^^
I am however curious. I have never heard of anything kin related. If you guys wouldnt mind informing me some more about the various types,or elaborate some more on the concept. I would really appreciate it. ^^

I've always felt a strong connection to foxes, especially red foxes, but I haven't explored it very much. For me, being fictionkin was a lot more clear. I believe in both reincarnation and the multiverse theory (the idea that there are infinite universes all taking place at the same time because time is nonlinear), which helps me explain a lot of things. I've had vivid memories as the characters I'm kin with, including some memories that ended up matching perfectly to events later in the series.

First of all, are there any specific questions you have? Also heads up, I'm going to the store, so I might take a bit.

I don't have any direct questions that come to mind. I might have a few, but they might offend someone. R.I.p I will ask regardless. Should it be too much, then feel free to let me know, ok? - can individuals of this concept perhaps act like the belief they believe in? (Example, someone acts with certain animal characteristics) - do you think people who believe in this kin concept might (perhaps) relate themselves to furries?

Not offensive at all! You're trying to learn, so it is hard to be offensive with an open mind and a willingness to understand.
Some people modify their behavior and even change how they dress, but it isn't necessary at all. Often times people will already have traits that align with the character, creature, or being they identify with/as.
As for furries... I don't think there's much of a correlation between the two. The groups are very different.

I can't tell if you guys are spamming or serious. Can't say I believe in otherkin, but I respect your beliefs! Bit of a shame if others spam something they don't agree with. Just thought I'd pop on by to say hello. I have to say I never knew some of those things you stated in the original post (and didn't really understand otherkin), so thank you for the enlightening information! : )

Thank you very much for the information. ^^
If any more questions pop up, I will ask. As a future educator, I would like to be as open, and aware of all types of students that will come my way. education, is a all to progress in life, and something such as belief, interests, or philosophy, should never stop or be in the way of success. Everyone should have equal opportunity regardless of what they perceive as reality.

Teachers can be some of the most important people to students and having one who is so open minded can change or even save someone's life. You are welcome to message me either here or privately should you ever have any questions about this or other subcultures! I will either help you out or see about finding you someone who can.

cutechem - There are characters that I see myself in and have used to cope in hard times, but all of those listed up there are kintypes I am 100% sure are past lives. I've had memories of each one and sometimes found others. I've got one friend who I have known in two of the listed lives, if not more. kiddo - Welcome! I am happy to see that there are others around! I kind of want this to be a safe place for otherkin to chat. It is important to feel a sense of community, especially when so many of us are struggling with other things as well.

That's really cool to hear! As I mentioned before, I've got a lot less experience with non-fickin stuff. It's nice to know how other people experience it. Especially the phantom ear/tail thing! I get that sometimes with Bucky Barnes, who has lost his left arm a few times. Occasionally I feel like it's gone still.

Oh that's awesome! He sounds super cool, and I'm really happy to hear that he's getting in touch with himself! My friend Nadja did the same. She dyed her hair black because the character she's kin with has that sort of hair. My favorite thing is when you can identify traits that match your kintype that existed before you ever knew.
