So this isn't an interest check or anything like that. I'm genuinely curious as to people's preference right now as to what kind of RPs they are looking for. I'm always looking at the trends that move across the forms. For example, kit-stealing/saving was big then died out, tribes were big then died out, rogue groups, kit adoptions (kit-caves, etc.), multi-clans, one on ones, and so on and so forth. I've seen a recent rise in a lot of RPs starting with the plots basically over and the clan/group/whatever trying to recover from it. I'm wondering if people honestly like that. At the same time though, I see more simpler clans emerging with either simpler concepts or much more crazy plots. I'd rally like to hear from as many people as possible so this might be a big of a long thing to read. I'll try to break it up as much as I can.
Type Of Roleplay: This is very simple. Why type of roleplay are you looking for? Are you looking more for action and adventure? More for slice of life? Mystery? Basically, what are you craving for as a plot? For example, I'm looking for a detailed plot that involves as many people as possible without smothering it. I'm looking to be involved with the plot, not recovering from it or for the major climax to have already happened.
Style of Clan: Do you want a more detailed clan? Detailed as in explaining a lot about the land, culture, ceremonies, changes from the original clans we read about. Do you like having to put a lot of detail into your characters when you join clans like this? Personally, I love detail. I love to read a person's hard work and to see the world they created (speaking as the person that created a whole planet/solar system for an RP). I love reading detail in characters and making the fine details that just shine through in some cases. Of course, you could also like really simple! Very little details with plenty for you to create. Something simple!
Style of Characters: Going off of the previous one, what do you like to do for your characters? Super detailed? Simple? Claim-a-cat? A lot of time or just a little bit? I kind of like all of the above because I have a chance to make it all mine in a way through personality, looks, time and effort of rping, etc. What do you like to put it?
Number of People: This is a little random, but I'm adding it because I've seen some RPs succeed with a different amount of people. Plus, it's a new interesting concept. How many people do you like to RP with? One on One? Just a handful? A large crowd!? Or does that depend on the plot? You can usually tell how many people are needed for an RP based on the plot. Complicated, long plots need lots of people and characters. However, many plots are moving towards after a tragedy where they are recovering from something. This leads to less characters and less people but still relatively good plots. What are your thoughts?
Creativity: How creative do you like your RPs? Do you like original clan with original warrior code and such? Or do like original ideas like clans based in different places, have different ideals, or even different creatures? Maybe something in between. I like to read people's creative ideas. I like to see other creatures, explore different lands and places, and try out different lifestyles. I've seen a lot of different ideas start out great before completely dying out. Why? What level of creativity is needed for you?
Other Things: Not quite sure what to add here. Just...if you have any questions, random things that might stick out to you that you like, or even hate? What do you specifically want in an RP? Please also state if you have any ideas for RPs! I'd love to hear them!
Please comment! I'd really to hear from as many people as possible. I want this to help people try to figure out what to do for their RPs, figure out exactly what they want in one, and maybe help grow fan clans as well. If possible, I'd like to try and do a poll or graph to show what the current trend is. I'd eventually like to have one that shows how things come and go but that's for the far future. Please let me know! Thank you!

For the type of drama, I like things that take a realistic turn but does allow some creativity. Down-to-earth and simpler with bits of excitement here and there are more of my thing. That is also my personal opinion because powers and anything that could add more than "here is a Clan cat in a forest" tend to be more difficult to monitor and role-play. Power-playing, god-modding, and all of the "golden rules" tend to falter and break away with powers. I'm also biased because I could never get a role-play that had powers or similar off the ground.
I like a mix of both in regards to the lore and history and territory. I think having a fine balance between detail and elbow room could really make a role-play for me. If someone has put the time and effort to world build, then I'm more likely to show it to people and join it. I like effort or no effort, and that sounds bad, but I'm talking about Clans that are just one post and slammed together and stereo-typically made by much younger and newer members that are just jumping into the role-playing world. With characters, I honestly go through moods. I like having room to work with for my characters, so I'm more opted to have a description for their appearance and history then having personality as simple "traits" that aren't expanded upon until actual role-playing. That way you're showing instead of telling and it's easier to develop a character when you have more room to make them react differently to situations based on all the evidence provided. For example, a character that is protective of their family and could be protective until they learn that that family member did something irreversibly horrible. They wouldn't turn on the family member completely, but they certainly wouldn't approve. If you have "protective" as a trait, it leaves more room and gives a general idea. I feel like you have more of a chance without someone claiming a character is out of character. I hope that makes sense. xD
I'm personally not picky about the number of people anymore to a degree. Sure, I want some people, like more than my two best friends so we're not lonely little gumdrops, but I'm no longer worrying about how to get more members. Instead, I focus on activity. If you have a smaller, closer knit group that is active, you can achieve a lot more instead of a giant group that miss each other often and a week in role-play time takes a month. An exaggeration, but I encourage people to be a bit more welcoming and open to members, but not to think that your role-play will suffer because you don't have the number of members as a role-play that has been going on for years and seemed to attract people by the "longevity" of it. While there are some few exceptions, older role-plays seem to be more guilty of people being more inactive than a smaller knit group that are having fun spending time. I also made the mistake of carrying on a "harsher" activity rule too long and now am more relaxed to accommodate the forums.
Creativity is a very difficult subject to touch. I have seen some posts that want to create this massively unique and off the wall role-play while almost, what it seems like to me, trashing "simpler" role-plays that take place in a more common setting. I've also seen it go the other way. The forums like to go through fads, like claim-a-cat Clans, and they switch between these two very generalized ideas. It's a gamble no matter what you do, but from a personal standpoint, I think anything can be creative if you put enough detail into it. For example, adding details to the original Clans from the books can spice it up without having to move them into different territory or having it to where they developed more powers. Though I'm not knocking those ideas, I don't think people should think that "off the wall" role-plays would mean more creativity. In fact, I've seen very few role-plays that succeed in being successful and creatively "off the wall" compared to a slew of almost copy-and-paste, not implying actual copying, "creative" Clans. One example of this idea is a Clan with powers. They are often on a tropical island so they easily have access to all elements so elemental powers have more spice. They have no border Clans because of the territory, limiting the plot, and more commonly the plot is powered cats vs. non-powered cats. It's a very generally common idea that is viewed as unique and off the wall, but I don't see it often developed to actually bring a level of world-building I have seen a few role-plays do. For a successfully creative Clan, you need to do some world-building.
I hope that answers your questions. For things I normally see and hate would have to be a Clan that just has a name, either no description or a sentence description, and then a bunch of cats with just a few common and general rules. It was made in the heat of the moment just to get something out. I like to build and create and that just conflicts with my own views.

Thanks for replying! I agree with the powers aspect. It's hard to control them without putting severe dampers on everyone's powers. You have to be very specific for what they can and cannot do. Usually, I don't go for them because of that. People like to take advantage of it. I do like different RPs though. So far, I like my sci-fi ones. I'm always going on making my characters. Always adding more detail to them and growing them. I don't try and go crazy though. People vary for me. Right now, because I have limited time, I'd like for a close knit group for a detailed RP. But that's hard to find. Especially right now when most of my friends are doing other things. Creativity is almost a must for me. It always draws me in. Even if it is just in a different setting with lots of detail, I need that to draw me in. And I do agree with "off-the-wall." Some of the old fan clans on the original forums got a little crazy. But I still remember them.

Type of Roleplay I prefer detailed plots that I can get into and not get bored of. Slice of life and after the climax roleplays bore me tbh. That or plots that don't get old and redundant.
Style of Clan I don't really join a lot of FanClans, but I prefer detailed Clans that give you a sense of the Clan's culture and such.
Style of Characters I like all detailed, simple, and claim-a-cat, but I prefer detailed and claim-a-cat more.
Number of People It depends on the type of roleplay and the plot it's going for. With some it'd be easier with a lot of people (multi Clan rp) and with others it'd be easier with a handful.
Creativity Idk, tbh. It's just what interests me with the roleplay and such. The detail and work they put into the Clan/roleplay itself is something that usually plays more of a factor in whether I join a rp or not.

Hm...sounds more like you are interested in reading the clan, culture, and characters a lot. Mostly cause you said that you don't join a lot of fan clans. Would you be more interested in reading a story that had a lot of culture or detail to it in regards to the characters and lifestyle? Just curious mostly.

Yeah, most likely because the detail/culture can be really interesting and cool to rp. Although I got into rping around I think last year in December and I actually caught onto it more of in January, so I guess I'm still kinda settling in.

You can always work with people to help create new clans for rich cultures. It's always fun adding little pieces of yourself into things to help them grow.

Not really an active roleplayer, but I lurk often in a majority parts of the forum because of the obvious.
Type Of Roleplay: I like clans with great plots, something that's not normally done. If I've seen it once, I've seen it twice, three times, and so on, I'll be tired of it. I don't care for romance that much but sometimes slice of life is nice. Action is fine, don't care for adventure, but am a sucker for thrillers and mysteries. Being involved with a plot is great though it's hard to do among a large group of people, so I prefer smaller groups for that or even 1x1s.
Style of Clan: Depends on how detailed someone's going to get when they explain the land, culture, ceremonies, etc. If it's too overly detailed and swarmed with so much info, I'm not going to read it all and may not even bother with the roleplay itself. I love original ideas, yes, but some worlds that people create are too much. I like the middle between simplicity and overly detailed. World building is nice to see though I'm hesitant to do much when I see it. It honestly all depends on, again, how it's explained by the creator.
Style of Characters: Simplicity when it comes to character forms. I despise long, overly detailed forms because: 1. it is a waste of time, 2. the more time spent on forms means less time spent roleplayed & unable to further a plot (if the rp has one), 3. not many people read them, and 4. unnecessary-- roleplays are about roleplaying, not how much info about your character that you can cram into a very long description of them. it's fine if you're into those things, but I personally find them repetitive and boring.
Number of People: A handful, I guess. I'm not too picky for this, so it doesn't really matter to me. Character amount also doesn't matter to me in terms of plots either. Also, I feel like when there's clans with a large crowd of people, there's less written in a post; they usually have 3-4 sentences (or less) and nothing interesting takes place either. It's just a lot of pages full of bullshit and the rps have no quality to them, it's all quantity based.
Creativity: Honestly depends on what the original ideas are. I don't care for other creatures in a Warriors RP as I dislike anything to do with fantasy other than Warriors. Different ideals & places are great to see and roleplay with. Though I feel like when roleplays like these come along, people get hyped up for it and the roleplay starts off okay, but dies sooner than it should because people may not be that fond of the small bit of determination it takes to join or create an original idea.
Other Things: Repetitive roleplays being restarted after, like, a week of going dead along with the original clans (the 4 or 5 at whatever location) bore me. There's nothing new to it unless you somehow create an interesting plot. I'm beyond picky with roleplays and, mostly, too busy for anything but a 1x1.

What would you consider a plot that hasn't been done? I've seen some many over my time that they all blur together at one point. I, myself, try to look for different plots. But it's a little hard in some scenarios when you are trying to stick to logical plots. Especially for a more normal clan. I can understand that. I usually try to break my stuff down as much as I can so people aren't swamped. But when you want to make sure people see things, I can see how it might get a bit long. The Tribe of Hidden Fireflies and MeadowClan had a lot of info. I tried to break it up into manageable amounts, but I'm not sure if I ever did. So more like claim-a-cat for characters: simple and easy; and a smaller group ready to work together. Interesting...most people like a bit of fantasy in their roleplays. But different places, I've seen a lot of those. I tried one for New Zealand, but I ended up having to cancel that idea because there are no wild cats there (weird hu?).

Pretty much anything with an interesting plot is something that will catch my eye, even if its something that's been done before nothing will ever play out the exact same every time, and there's always different twists and turns you can throw in there along the way. [this is coming from the queen of drama, so I understand if not everyone else is into that, but there's usually a few people who enjoy engaging plots.] Though if you are going for an interesting plot, try to make a reasonable number of roles available, its boring to get to a cool clan to find out all the roles have been claimed!
In terms of detail, I don't mind too much on overly detailed or not too much. Either way I'll scroll through it carefully, people put a lot of work into those so I always try to read it, and usually its very interesting. If you present it in a nice format, it will help attract people, and as you've said; definitely break it up somehow so it doesn't make the reader's head explode from an overload of information at once!
Personally I will never go for a claim a cat, I don't like other people dictating what my charries look like. A stupid nit pick I'm aware, but just not something I go for XD

Agreed. More specific plots need to have more (want I call) mini-plots so that there is still other things for people to be interested in. Mini-plots can be just as interesting if they continue. I like detail as well. More simple clans, I've seen them before. Maybe it's because I've done so much over the years that the more simple ones bore me in a way. Idk. It's interesting. I own a claim-a-cat so I don't mind them. It's a great way to make sure that there is some connection for the characters and genetic traits. I do let people add details to the characters (scars, little designs, etc) as long as it isn't major changes. But that is just me. Not sure about other ones.

That’s why I add the rule requesting that people where they’ve created characters of similar designs to another already existing cat, that they be related to some extent. I just find it means the creator is allowed to create their own character, choose name etc. But adds a more realistic feel to the clan when there are family lines established in it without having to wait for generations to pass in roleplay.

Hope it's okay for me to put my own feedback in here as well!
Type of Roleplay: The types of roleplay i like are those that have a set plot available for the whole of the clan, basically. I kind of like clans with action or adventure, I suppose. I personally love it when a clan or roleplay is full of stuff to do that can help form the plot and continue it. I like clans that don't try to shove a plot down your throat and take their time playing out, but not one that literally takes a whole year to complete or a whole two months to start, you know?? Something that doesn't require set positions to be filled before the plot can take place.
Style of Clan: I personally love when clans are in the middle of detailed and just,, I like it when theres enough information to the point where I'm not sitting here like "wait how large is the territory?" or "wait, is this actually a landmark?" or even "is there even a river in this clans territory?". I like reading about a clan history as well, so I do enjoy that kind of detail. It lets me know as a reader of the clan that the creator actually took time to plan and form a clan.
Style of Characters: I love short descriptions and reference photos. All the while leaving characters realistic and something you'd actually see in actual felines. Meaning, I don't like seeing tortoiseshell toms that can produce kits- it's not genetically accurate. Nor do I like seeing cats with red eyes. Now, for claim a cats, I have personally made two of these clans and they were both fun. I love making creative names and making descriptions for cats, so I do like Claim a Cat clans. As long as they remain realistic. I also really love when clans follow simple genetics.
Number of People: I'm not picky when it comes to how many people join a clan, but a fine line to draw is about 15-20 people in a clan. I'm personally not a huge fan of many people in a clan. I feel as if over 20 joiners would be kind of excessive, and it'd give a clan more cats than needed, especially when they all have two to four cats each. It's kinda like an overflow, in my eyes at least.
Creativity: I'm okay with creativity. It's very interesting seeing people create clans with their own traditions, warrior code and all that. I like those. I also really love original stuff. I'm not all to picky when it comes to that since I've joined something with both of those aspects. So creativity: thumbs up. It shows me that the creator really really took their time planning it out if they created something different from original.
Other Things: I like when clans have a control on how many apprentices their are and set a limit, or a ratio of warriors you need in order to have an apprentice, so it keeps from a over flow of apprentices. I also like keeping genders even and having people join with at least on male and female- it's kind of annoying to me when people only use mollies. I also like when the roleplays are literate and require a post length of three sentences or more. I tend to write a lot, so I hate when clans are filled with one-line writers. I can't stand one-liners. They just lower muse and make me not want to reply. Same thing with repetitive replies. I like roleplays that require detail in responses.
That's all really- in general I'm not very picky, but again, I do have preferences. If something catches my eye, I'll probably look into it!

🇳ᴇcʀᴏᴅ🇦🇳cᴇʀ - I encourage in my RPs for people to look for family ties or at least be friends/mates with other characters. I highly discourage people joining with mates since it limits the family interaction so much.
-` percy ´- .✫ 🌊 - I sort of agree with you. Mostly because I do like detailed plots. Don't get me wrong! If you can't get it started off or moving, then we have a problem. I had some of the best plots for my RPs, but they never seemed to get off the ground. Mostly because they were being shoved side-ways for other RPs. It's hard to get people to focus at times. Ok, let's all be honest. Reading about the clan's past makes everything more interesting. What would you think of a sci-fi RP with a genetically modified cat species based off of something that has already been scientifically done? I've seen a lot of genetically accurate so I'm wondering about that level of difference. I cap all my RPs at 20 people. Characters, there is no limit as long as you RP them all on a weekly basis. When I see characters not being RPed, I cut them. I've never really had a cap limit on apprentices, but I have stopped accepting them because we have lacked warriors. Most of my RPs are also one tom or she-cat. As for one-liners, most of the RPs I've run, that's impossible. There is just too much detail to leave out. Not like busying detail but detail of the worlds and replies.

Sci-fi is a different genre from what i usually do, but it is indeed interesting. I personally don't find myself as interested in one based on that as I do others where things are more realistic to what we actually know. However, I would definitely take a look into it, considering it does sound kind of cool.
But i'm glad to hear you agree with some of what I wrote c: I've just been in clans before where there was waaaay more apprentices than warriors, and I think it's a good thing to limit it so that it doesn't happen. What a friend of mine does is that you need at least three warriors before you can join with an apprentice. That doesn't, however, include Medicine cat apprentice though. I feel like it just keeps everything in order so the ratio isn't 3:1 apprentices to warriors yknow?
But same for the one-liners. I typically use a rule saying if you write in one-liners there better be a good reason, (and not just lack of muse, because a person can effectively write a three lined response with a lack of muse) or else they get warned for not following the rules I usually have set.

This is true, it's hard to find a logical plot within a more normal clan. Claim-a-cats are okay. I just prefer short book-like descriptions for characters or something that's like a paragraph long. Smaller groups tend to be more organized in my opinion and have more of a feel, a connection I guess? Yeah, I'm not a fantasy person as I prefer realism though that's really hard to achieve in Warriors. I tend to make some room for fantasy but not a lot since it's not a favorite genre-- or a liked one at all. New Zealand would be such a wonderful place for a Warriors rp though, the climate is amazing & so is the area. I wouldn't have thought that they didn't exist there.

Type Of Roleplay: I definitely like a roleplay with a lot of action. The more I can get involved, even without having a "major" role, the better. I like to see how different things effect each cat, and also to have a chance to roleplay with everyone. Mystery and adventure are definitely a favorite of mine, but sci-fi is not something i'm opposed to, because it's one of my favorite genres to read. Over all, I like when something starts out in a build up, and over time you see how the suspense and tension causes issues. But I don't like when it takes forever to get the plot going - I get bored easily, and if I feel like nothing it happening I tend to lose muse and just forget about that clan entirely. Also - romance and things of the sort kind of get tiring after a while. Or, having a ton of queens and basically all anyone does is fawn over kits or something like that. I prefer to watch the apprentices train or to see the warriors caught up in a fight struggling to get away.
Style of Clan: I enjoy detail quite a bit - learning about what makes a clan or tribe unique is one of my favorite parts of it. The adaptations of roles, or the additional traditions and ceremonies just make it all the more interesting though. I personally tend to favor clans that clearly show a lot of work was put into them, over ones that just changed the name and the territory (ironic coming from someone who just did that in Summitclan I know xD). Your Lucida was easily one of my favorite worlds to read about specifically because it was so new and it was obvious you put so much freaking effort into making it and making sure that everything worked together.
Style of Characters: The shorter the character form, the more I like it. I prefer to describe my characters in RP rather than in a description - it just feels like telling you who they are rather than showing, and you learn a lot more about someone from watching them than from hearing about them. I'm not opposed to claim-a-cat, but I personally prefer to make my own cat completely, though the idea of having set family relations is one I favor completely. It's not as much fun to me to not have family outside of my own cats, so I definitely always try to relate them to others if it's possible.
Number of People: Lowkey I kind of prefer small-group RPs because I feel like it's easier to bond and get to know everyone and their characters, but if a clan has a bunch of people I don't mind that either. Sometimes the plot is definitely very integral to how many people I'm comfortable roleplaying with.
Creativity: Oh, I love creative RPs. Original clans are some of my favorite, though I also love normal clans based in different areas and with different traditions or values. I like to explore the world around the center of the story so having a more unique, creative sort of place to explore is a lot of fun to me. That's not to say that 'original clan' RPs aren't any fun - I enjoy the take on the O-5 also.
Other Things: This is just a nitpicky thing but - I like clans that limit the number of apprentices, or refrain from joining with a queen. I just get so irritated when all anyone wants to do is have a queen and make her have kits, or when the ratio of apprentices to warriors is 3:1 or something like that. Literacy is also a big deal to me - usually I prefer clans that require at least four or so sentences, because it's just so much easier to respond to and more often than not, you're forced to further the story because you can't just say 'she did this. she did that.' over and over again. Grammar is a big deal to me as well - fragmented sentences and run-ons are just frustrating, though I do understand that we all make mistakes sometimes.

-` percy ´- .✫ 🌊 - It's something that I absolutely love~! I love sci-fi and the genera to death. I love writing about it. The problem is getting it to be realistic. I want my stuff to be believable, which is why with the GMO species is scientifically possible. I can share the details towards it, but it's probably about a page in length for history and genetics. I'm always paranoid that if I don't have at least 1 apprentice, I don't have enough age fluctuation. I rarely get senior warriors or cats above 36 moons. Most are between 20-30 so age separation is a big thing for me. I just can't do one-liners. Most of my RPs are semi-literate (or semi-in-depth) so one liners just aren't a thing.
Sand - I like when people do normal clans with a twist. One person I saw did a clan but they worshiped gods which was something I really enjoyed. Unfortunately, it kind of fizzled out. Wish I could do something similar, but I'm super careful to not steal people's personal work. I'm very careful with claim-a-cats. I like people to add detail for the personalities but nothing to crazy description wise considering it's already been done fore them. I'm thinking of my next RP to be comprised of 5-6 people with a minimum of 4 characters each so there is a lot of character interaction but a tight-nit group. I might have an idea, but we shall see. I know! Kiwi's live there, and I was wondering how they survived this long. But no! No natural predators and not feral cat populations. They are very, very careful with that. Pity too. Would have made for some beautiful new names.
ʙᴜᴍʙʟᴇʙᴇᴇ » - There is actually a rule I always use about no kit-love or a lot of apprentice crushes. One RP I had run ended up having a bunch of kits falling in love with each other and apprentices pledging themselves as mates (without really being mates). It got so crazy, I shut it all down. They got upset with me about it, but the RP was not all about love! And I always push that in my RPs. Drives me nuts when it turns into nothing but that. Lol! I have so much for Lucida that I don't think a lot of people got to see, it's crazy! You were part of the tribe for a while, right? Cause there are three other species that I created and the one that Mystic did for JUST the cat species. I've done trees, plants, bugs, fish, mammals, lizards, frogs, horses, boars, EVERYTHING!! And it actually bothers me because I feel like there isn't enough at times. Understand, I didn't just create a planet, I created a world and the solar system it was in. If your interested in knowing more or hearing my new ideas for creatures, just let me know. I always write my characters like they are in a story so my descriptions for them just keep getting longer and longer. Heck, I've been tempted to write some characters actual backgrounds as stories (Season of the Stars in particular). I can do short descriptions. I just feel like they are always lacking something. I'm beginning to want to narrow down the sizes of my RP. So maybe if I am lucky, I can find a smaller group to do an idea or two that I have. I don't even need to explain my creative streak to you. Lol! I love it far too much. Not outside the realms of reality but one that can very much draw me in. I remember seeing an RP where the cats ran on disks in the sky and I was just like What? How? Why? I'm not as picky with my queens as I am with motherless kits. I do have a limiting number of queens that there can be and a limiting number of kits for the litters. But I'm more picky about people joining as kits with no tie-ins to the rest of the clan. It's really hard to get them involved if there are no other kits and even harder to interact with them since they are kits and not really able to do a lot.
