Inspiration x - x - x - x - x - x Selyria is rather mild in climate. It is not as cold as the northern two countries, but is not a warm place either. It is a wet land that is characterized by rather gray/gloomy weather. As far as geography goes, Selyria by land mass is one of the biggest of the kingdoms. About half of its territory is on the western coast of the main continent. The other half is an archipelago of about 50 islands of various size and population. It is very green, rolling land with sharp cliffs and dark rocks. The land on the continent is forested and actually less populated than that of the islands, which are used for trade. The land of Selyria is not particularly well suited for growing crops, as it is too wet and the soil too inhospitable.
The capital city is on the second largest of the islands in the archipelago. The island and the city are typically called by the same name, Ilysia, however the area around the city is also known by the colloquial term "Ground Clouds". The capital itself was strategically built on the largest natural hot spring in the known world. It is believed to be sacred ground related to both the Male and Female Gods. The spring runs down a sloped hill, over the curved, textured surface which over time has built up a colorful array of minerals. The name "Ground Clouds" comes from the steam that is constantly blanketing Ilysia and the surrounding lands. The moisture from the hot springs makes the air of the island thick, and it tastes of sulfur. The humidity and warmth created by the bubbling hot water has created a rather strange phenomenon. The city of Ilysia was constructed in a smooth, dove gray stone in honor of the Gray Gods. Over time, green plants and algae have thrived in the humid air, which even from miles away, can be seen on the rooftops and walls of the city. » Culture & Economy
Whether it is deserved or not, the people in Selyria believe themselves to be the oldest, most sophisticated nation. The majority of its population are rather modest people, who herd sheep or fish in the Foaming Sea, which is what the waters around Selyria are lovingly called. But the humble nature of the majority is not at the forefront of the minds of the ruling class. The capital city, as well as its sister city on the mainland, Fivia, are the epitome of sophistication. Ilysia is home to the world's largest and most extensive library, which now is home to a school for excellent thinkers.
But I would be remiss not to mention the religion of the Selyrian people, which is central to their identities and to that of the kingdom as a whole. The religion is centered around two gods, known most commonly as the Male God and the Female God. The Male God presides over all things of the earth; rocks, streams, volcanoes, cliffs, etc. The Female God presides over the air and sky, as well as weather. They are depicted always as a couple in their prime formed from gray rock. Their likenesses are depicted all over the kingdom in the most beautiful and detailed to the most modest and small of statues. They are however, never permitted to be touching in art. This is because, according to myth, they must always be separated by land and air which is why they have no children. Each city and even some families claim patronage by one of the two gods. There are beautiful temples even in the most remote of lands. Ilysia is the one place that is said to be equal in the eyes of the gods, as the spring is of the Male God and its mist of the Female. For this reason it is considered lucky to be married in the city, and all couples in Selyria make the journey to do so if they are able.
» Political World
For the most part, Selyria is a peaceful and content place. Of course there are inner internal conflicts, but in the current era, none are too noteworthy. Most of the conflict for the kingdom comes from external sources. The takeover by Brasmid has meant the horizons have vastly expanded in the form of imperialism. He wishes to seize new lands on the continent for agricultural purposes, which means some other countries are going to have to pay for his ambition. Vellevyn is the first of his conquests. He has already sent troops to the western territories of the landlocked country, and one doesn't need seer to tell them that war is just around the corner.
» Extra Information
Selyrian culture is greatly stratified, as are most, between the wealthy and the poor. The poor in Selyria mostly work in livestock, fishing, smithing, textiles, all of the trades you would expect. Their fashions are practical and as one might expect, depending on the weather. The wealthy, unfortunately, are a bit more interesting. Most speak several languages, both the common tongue and Selyrian, which is an antiquated tongue used mostly in writing and religious ceremonies. One thing that is interesting about their culture is that their religion encourages open sexuality. The sanctity of marriage is a foreign concept, and married couples are perfectly normal if they take on other partners over their lifetime. This goes for both men and women. This doesn't mean they aren't strict in their own ways. Marriage is pushed on citizens, especially the wealthy, starting around the age of fifteen or sixteen for women and seventeen or eighteen for men. (Note that this makes the king, at 37, an outlier among his peers). Currently the style in Fivia is long dresses made of sheer fabric, as well as jewels and bold metals.
Brasmid Redfowle [ face claim ● Luke Evans ] 37 ● Selyria ● King ● heterosexual ● chaotic neutral Personality Brasmid is many things, but meek is not one of them. Each person he meets comes away with an opinion of him, one that is either strongly positive or negative. He is the type of man who either encourages confidence or belittles a person to their weakest. Brasmid, or Bras as he is known by his family, is a difficult man to pin down. His actions are of a direct result of his moods, which change swiftly and often. He goes through stretches of being angry and demanding, frustrated at his inability to do everything at once. He also goes through stages of quietness and chilling stillness. During these times he is typically contemplating his next move, or regretting some of his previous ones. It goes without saying that he isn't the best statesmen. He is too brash to politely discuss trivial things with soft, stuffy nosed men. He desires action above all else and is a man of emotion, especially in regards to politics. Socially, he is neither cruel nor particularly kind. He has a sharp tongue and a flippant attitude, but an amused smile is not uncommonly flashed across his lips.
History He is mostly known as a general, at least that is how he made his name. The son of a prominent noble, he was nonetheless born with warrior's blood in his veins. He is a soldier before anything else. As a young man, he was quickly propelled into a leadership position after inheriting his late father's troops, the largest number in Selyria at the time. Not many years later, he was entrusted with the command of the kingdom's army. But how did he become king, you might ask? Well, firstly, the former king died with no one to succeed him but a sickly seven year old son. Rather than place the boy on the throne, it was decided that a general by the name of Porbos would be named Steward until the boy reached an adequate age. Only the boy never would grow old (he died suspiciously months after Porbos was granted stewardship). This was quickly followed by a number of foreign military losses. The people of Selyria were rapidly growing impatient, and this is where Brasmid made his entrance. He effectively held the steward's men hostage, declaring he would start a civil war unless he was granted the throne. Porbos refused. Rather than laying seige locally, however, Brasmid sent his own men to reclaim the lost territory across the sea. Two days later, Porbos' troops revolted, backing Brasmid. The rest is rather self explanatory. The steward was assassinated, either by Brasmid's man or by someone else's. The new king has arguably been a successful one. He's conquered even more territory for Selyria on the main continent and has amassed a formidable army. Critics, however, are right to point out that he is more general than statesman and his reign though remarkable, might be destined for an equally magnificent fall.
Appearance Part of Brasmid's success can surely be attributed to his physical presence. At just over 6'5, he is considerably taller than the average person. He boasts broad shoulders and a long stride. He stands out among the small-boned professorial men of Ilysia. He is handsome if one is attracted to brash, inelegant masculinity. His features are proud and give the impression of age, though he is actually in the late stages of his prime. His hair and beard are dark, though his skin is naturally on the lighter side, as is common in the kingdom. He has dark eyes. Brasmid is currently unmarried, though the maids in the palace will gleefully inform you had he's not lacking in company. He has no legitimate children, but a handful of bastards whom he treats well, though their existence is kept mostly secret from his subjects.» Relationships

Aila Redfowle
[ face claim ● Luma Gothe ] 23 ● Selyria ● Lady ● pansexual ● lawful neutral Personality It's no surprise Aila turned out as stubborn and cynical as she is, with Bras and Amberle as older siblings. Despite Bras being fourteen years her senior, she nevertheless takes after him in many ways. She too is unafraid to offend with her words. Of her siblings, she is perhaps the most sharp-tongued. She lacks Bras' dryness and Le's playful sarcasm. No one has ever called her flirtatious. In fact, most men who've courted her would glumly report that she is one of the most impossible people on the planet to woo. She has a morbid and dark sense of humor, she prefers her own company, and she is bored by most attempts to be romantic. Simply put, Aila is a difficult person to be around at times. This doesn't mean she isn't charming in her own way. She is too clever for her own good, she has impeccable taste in fashion, and she can be surprisingly funny (whether she means to be or not).
History Aila is the youngest of the four Redfowle children. At the time of her birth, her father was a nobleman and a general. The Redfowle estate was a wealthy and abundant one off the coast of the mainland, not far from Fivia. Their claim to fame were their purebred horses, sold across the continent for the highest of prices. At this point, Brasmid was still a young man and not yet a soldier. Their parents were getting older, especially for having an infant daughter and a three year old son (Leon). Hiero and Violesse Redfowle were childhood friends and married when they were only fifteen. Violesse died when Aila was six, and Hiero a year and half later. Bras then became the head of the estate and inherited his father's troops. While he was off taking over the western half of the continent, Aila was still young enough that she was sent off to school in Fivia. She was always a guarded and somewhat gloomy child. She spent most of her time in school ditching classes to loiter in the kitchens, which was the only place she wasn't expected to learn anything. She did however pick up a few colorful phrases from the chefs who worked there. By the time she graduated (with honors, miraculously), her brother was king. The Redfowle children were given the option to move to Ilysia, but Aila chose to return to their estate where she remained until she was kicked out by her former nursemaid who said it was time for her to become a wife.
Appearance Aila is a bit darker than any of her older siblings, her skin a warm olive in tone. She takes after her late father in appearance, not because of her coloring but because of her large eyes and her full lips. Her nose is narrow and somewhat flat. Her eyes are dark and judgemental; two pools of ink. The sharp angle of her brows gives her a severity that some find alluring and others find off-putting. She is quite tall, though not as absurdly tall as Bras. At 5'9 she is a good four inches taller than the average woman and two inches taller than her older sister. Her limbs are long and elegant, as are her fingers and neck. A curtain of straight black hair falls to her lower back and is rarely styled up. The dresses she wears are always the most daring in the capital, as she is from Fivia, the more modern of the largest Selyrian cities. Golds and warm tones work best with her skin color, but she is also partial to black.

» Livvy's Selyria Characters
Amberle Skai Redfowle [ face claim ● Poppy Drayton ]
Selyria ● Twenty-eight ● Lady ● Bisexual ● Chaotic Neutral Appearance The gods and goddesses are probably raging with utter envy over Amberle’s natural beauty, or perhaps that is just what she likes to believe. Indulge her. Humor her. Attention is entertaining. Although in a world of daisies, she is poison ivy by far. Be careful or you will get caught in her prickly thorns. She is always looking for someone else to command. Compared to her older brother, she is nowhere near his towering height and instead averagely strands at five foot seven. Not that height was ever a real problem for Amberle. Nothing as petty and trivial as height would ever be an obstacle for that clever woman. She has long flowing hair that is dark brown, having a similar appearance to their mother’s, along with a pair of dark eyes that nearly perfectly echo Brasmid’s. Amberle always seems to be dressed in a way that asserts her natural authority over others, whether it’s a dress or not. Sometimes, she favors strutting around in fighting gear because she can. Don’t question it, unless you want a silver dagger pressed against your throat and a knee where you definitely do not want it. With a usual, dark smirk that seems to always be brushed across her lips, it gives one the impression that she really does have a silver tongue. Not just in the figurative way, mind you.
Personality Intelligent and resourceful, Amberle is not a fool even though people love believing that she is. She is very social, although not necessary in the amiable way. The woman is opinionated and reflects an obstinate and sarcastic disposition. A silver-tongued vixen, she is. Amberle has an almost expert façade of charisma used to manipulate and likes to bring chaos to an otherwise peaceful situation. It really is a hoot watching people underestimate her. Standing next to her strong and towering brother, it is easy to write her off as a foolish girl. However, the lovely kingdom of Selyria was quick to learn that Amberle is not someone you want to piss off. See, it was not just Brasmid who learned how to fight. His sister also followed suit, being taught in combat just as he was. Amberle is well trained and will not have any problems with snapping any parts of your body. She can do so with one hand while in a dress if she wanted to. As far as anyone else is concerned, Amberle can do whatever the hell she wants and can get away with it, too. It's no wonder she isn't at the top of the popularity poll. However, just ask some of the servants and the soldiers what they think of her, and they'll definitely give you a detailed summary of her talents.
History Growing up privileged did exactly what you’d expect it to do to Amberle. Based on what you have read so far about her majesty, you already know that she is spoiled and condescending, instinctively seeing her and her family as above anyone else. Amberle was eleven years old whenever their mother passed away, with their great old father following suit not long after. That was when her beloved older brother went off to conquer the world. Well, maybe not the world, but it sure felt like it, with all of the stories Amberle began to hear. She felt so much pride at Brasmid’s accomplishments, cheering him on even as she was sent off to school along with her younger brother and sister. She had no issues during her schooling and frankly, she had the school wrapped around her little finger as soon as she stepped inside. Gaining popularity among her peers was easy. Years past with Amberle living life with her head high, and her life was only going up from there. The invitation by Brasmid to join him in Ilysia came and the woman packed her bags eagerly. Amberle, born extra, strolled into the conquered capital like she owned the damn place. And partly, she kind of does. Brasmid is in charge overall, yes, but the royal family still has considerable influence and has a fair level of authority. That authority is definitely practiced every single day by an overbearing Amberle. Everyone else is a pawn in the Redfowle chess game.

Leon Aster Redfowle [ face claim ● Adan Canto ]
Selyria ● Twenty-six ● Lord ● Homosexual ● Neutral Good Appearance The second to last born is handsome, or so he’s been told. With a height of six foot two, Leon is a naturally tall man like his older brother, although Brasmid is still the main tower of the siblings. He has a similar build to the kingdom’s ruler, with a toned physique and broad shoulders. Although, if you pay attention, you will easily determine that Leon does not carry himself in the way that Brasmid does. Long, confident strides are not seen with Leon’s movements. He displays more of a reserved stride where his chin is not held high with prestige. Not that any of this is an insult to Bras or even Amberle. It’s just the facts. Sometimes you can tell clear differences between family members with demeanors, regardless of how subtle the movements are. In terms of skin tone, his is in between the others. His skin is lighter than Aila’s but noticeably slightly darker than the older two. Leon has dark hair like the others do, and it’s short but still long enough to show the natural, messy curls on top of his head. He will occasionally have a beard or at least a stubble of one, giving him a somewhat gruff appearance. He has the same pair of dark eyes that you would find with his family, although his glint with a warmth that seems absent within the others.
Personality With the Redfowle siblings entertaining diverse personalities, Leon is undoubtedly the quiet one of the family. He doesn’t even display a sharp-tongue like his sisters. While his siblings were learning combat or getting into mischief, his nose was often stuck in a book of history or art. He was always scholarly, having a natural yearning to learn in school despite being the odd one out in his family. Being a male of the prestigious Redfowle line, most assumed he would take after his older brother and become a soldier. That was not the case, with Leon diving head first into his studies instead of desiring to pick up a sword. He’s more of a lover, not a fighter. He is a lover of the arts and of the world’s history, even the histories of other nations. Selyria is not the center of the universe, even though many love to believe it is. Leon expresses genuine interest in learning about the other cultures, and he was able to in Ilysia’s grand library. If he is not found in his home, you will undoubtedly find him somewhere in there. Leon has a caring disposition and is never one to put others down just because they are of lower birth.
History His childhood in Fivia was how you’d assume it to be. Rich family. Amberle being a sarcastic bitch and Bras being a brooding and dry fellow. Alas, they are still those things. When they were younger, Leon was a very quiet boy who preferred being in a peaceful place with his own thoughts. Never was he a social lad who had many friends, and in all honesty, his only true friend was his younger sister, Aila. They were close, still are. There was always a mutual understanding of each other. After their parents died, school was in hindsight. Aila ended up being a glorified class skipper, but Leon was the opposite and longed for learning. You couldn’t pull that boy away from gaining knowledge even if you wanted to. Leon grew into an adult, and higher education gave him the ability to study history and the arts, which are his passions. The time eventually came when Brasmid had successfully conquered Selyria, asking his family to accompany him at the capital. It was no surprise that Leon was hesitant, for he had never been fond of their noble status and didn’t think wealth defined a person. Now, his brother was the ruler of a great kingdom, and Leon was stuck in the middle. He eventually did agree, while Aila stayed back at their childhood estate for a little while. Much of Leon’s motives to go to Ilysia had to do with its massive library. He works there now, using much of his time there to do more research into different cultures and arts.

» Sacha's Selyria Characters
Kai Nicollier27 ● Selyria ● Informant ● Homosexual ● Chaotic Neutral Personality Really, at heart he is a good person, but he is not usually willing to show that. For the most part, others annoy him, and so he uses them for his advantage. If he isn't working to get something from someone, however, he voices his displeasure and doesn't hold punches. Being the innkeeper and bartender in the outskirts of the capital, he does what he can to find out choice bits of information that may benefit him or others. Being a businessman, of course, everything does come at a price. Although most of what he does is to benefit himself, the man does have a conscience and some angry sense of justice. There are certain things that he won't disclose, and certain things he will keep up with to see if something can be done. His inn, as well, is sometimes used to shelter particular people--depending on what they are running from. Kai's icy nature stems from his past, and so his trust of others is particularly low. That being said, there are a variety of sharp objects he has made himself familiar with, and in the past, a few bodies that his sharp objects have buried themselves in. Although he's trying to live a 'calmer' life, he won't hesitate to do such again.
History Kai won't talk about his past, but it doesn't take a professional to guess something bad happened. Five years of abuse shaped him into who he is today, but 11 years later he is in a much better place. Owning his own business, for one, is good, and only having issues with alcohol instead of various other fibres and concoctions is definitely a step up. His life before all that, though, began in a rural coastal town of Selyria with two loving but ultimately impoverished parents. Kai was married off at fifteen to a man with much more wealth and even status, which is why he will not return to his parents. He doesn't want them to blame themselves, to think it is their fault this happened. They couldn't have known, and such was the custom in Selyria--a country he both loved and hated equally.
Appearance Kai has feminine features--a curvier waist than most guys, curved jawline, long blond hair. He stands at 5'7", so while he isn't that tall, he is still intimidating. The main goal for how he presents himself is to confuse, threaten, and possibly turn on others. He's intersex, and his voice could pass for male or female depending on what he wants. Although he's a guy, he doesn't mind being mistaken and is both comfortable and pleased with his androgynous appearance. He has blue eyes, which can be soft and alluring; when he's not putting up a show however, they are most likely cold and annoyed. Kai's appearance is intimidating because he knows his own attractiveness and actively uses it for his advantage. People will often overshare with someone that they are trying to bed, and since Kai's position makes it all too easily to swindle someone, he usually gets what he is looking for. That, and a good tip.
Émilien Fournier
31 ● Selyria ● Lord ● Bisexual ● Neutral Evil Personality etc etc etc
History etc etc etc Appearance Having been born into Selyrian high society, it is important for Émilien to keep up his appearance. His dark red hair--not ginger, thank the Gods--is parted on his right, that side being cut shorter while the majority of his length is combed and styled to the left. He has waxes and creams to keep it up and airy, but being that his hair is thick, it doesn't require too much attending. Émile's eyes are hazel with flecks of dark gold around the edges and his ears are commonly adorned with gold cuffs and posts. He stands at around six feet, but his build is not muscular like a fighter, more lean like somone who learned swordplay with rapiers and only because someone of his rank should have the ability. Not that learning to fight disinterested him--a man without the ability to defend himself did not deserve any position he was in. Although he keeps gold and emerald adornments, Émile can still down a sellsword sent after him.
