Don't get me wrong, I love the current theme a lot- it's just that I really wish that some other choices were given to us- a "dark" mode, perhaps, or some user-created themes for the site. It would really allow people to pick something they truly like, and freedom is never a bad thing. Perhaps we could have a community event where we decide what new themes we could use, or make some of our own? It's just a running idea of mine that I've been thinking about for a while.

Originally, we had a "dark" mode on the site called Night Rise. It was removed due to the amount of members who were using it which wasn't many, from what I can remember.
Currently I think there is only one theme-- which is the 09-13 WCF theme. I know Roswell had spoken of themes before.
Also, for the user-created themes, it really depends what the site can handle-- themes have file sizes. The size of the file would have to be between X and Y, depending on how much space the forum has. This is an example, of course. Roswell and Felix know more about this than I do, so I'm probably one of the last people to ask for details about it.
The Theme Manager currently shows that we have 3 themes (two are staff exclusive), the max per an image is 1 MB, and max images per theme is 500.
'09'13 WCF theme file size is 555.55 KB if that's of any interest to you.
Overall-- I'd say this is something up Roswell or Felix's alleys. I don't manage any of the themes and I don't know much about it either, but the two of them could give more input than I.

If it would be possible for you to get their input on this, I would greatly appreciate it. I have no way of getting into contact with either of them, and I'm hoping it would be possible to perhaps add back Night Rise (I personally loved it) or to have the community here create an entirely new site theme. |

Just curious, but what do you mean that the community here create an entirely new site theme? Possibly, the community could come together and describe what they would want an ideal theme to look like. Our current theme is based off of the past and the old forums, and that was from a time where we had significantly less input than we do today in how things look and feel. If you simply think about all the features the community has added to this site within the last 2 years alone, you'll soon realize how large an effect this community has over the site. It's high time that the new forums were special- in an artistic way, if that makes sense. This ideal theme could be planned sometime in February, coded in March and added to April/May at the latest. I think it would be a great way for the new forums to showcase how much we've changed since the old forums. |
