Snowheart, feeling betrayed by her brother for leaving the Clan, goes to lash out, but decides to ask how things are. He responds that Oreo passed away, then Harry had kits and became a kittypet. This caused him to go to LeafClan, where he met Brooktail, but swore he would meet up with his kits everyday. Cloudnose refused to and Nutoelt was already dead at the time. Brooktaip left because she was scared for their lives, but he didn’t see it as a danger, then Torrentstar attacked some of the Clans own warriors, causing him to go to AspenClan. Juniperwish arrives in Seedclan territory with her patrol. She notices something. Seedclan seems to be baron and bland, normally it's filled to the brim with flowers and herbs, but it looks like a desert almost. Juniperwish notices a patrol and runs over to them. They are calm but seem terrified of something so Juniperwish decides to go into the camp. There she is informed by some of the patrol cats that Shadowstorm forced his way to deputy and is about ready to be leader when their leader passes away. Back in camp Appleheart dies in his sleep. Suncloud, Mossypool, and Lightpaw go missing in the same manner. Two days later, three cats appear on the territory. They ask to speak with Smokestar, and later, appear at a Clan meeting. Smokestar introduces the three cats as cats that were once Twolegs, whilst one of them was not a Twoleg, but something that the trio call a "Time Lord". Smokestar confirms that the three cats will be staying with the Clan in order to help find Dewpounce, Mossypool, Suncloud, and Lightpaw, as they are very experienced in many areas.

The Doctor, after several days of observation, tells Smokestar that Mossypool isn't truly Mossypool - neither are any of the cats that have gone missing. The missing cats have been taken over by entities known as the Slitheen, who are using the cats' bodies in order to infiltrate and take over the Clan. Mossypool is kicked out of the Clan, and Smokestar begins to prepare the Clan for battle.
