i have grapheme-color synesthesia and i was wondering if there were other synesthetes on here here's some info on Synesthesia (via Wikipedia) for the curious: Synesthesia is a neurological phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. People who report a lifelong history of such experiences are known as synesthetes.
In one common form of synesthesia, known as grapheme-color synesthesia or color-graphemic synesthesia, letters or numbers are perceived as inherently colored. In spatial-sequence, or number form synesthesia, numbers, months of the year, and/or days of the week elicit precise locations in space (for example, 1980 may be "farther away" than 1990), or may appear as a three-dimensional map (clockwise or counterclockwise). Synesthetic associations can occur in any combination and any number of senses or cognitive pathways.
Little is known about how synesthesia develops. It has been suggested that synesthesia develops during childhood when children are intensively engaged with abstract concepts for the first time. This hypothesis – referred to as semantic vacuum hypothesis – explains why the most common forms of synesthesia are grapheme-color, spatial sequence and number form. These are usually the first abstract concepts that educational systems require children to learn.
Only a fraction of types of synesthesia have been evaluated by scientific research. Awareness of synesthetic perceptions varies from person to person.
Difficulties have been recognized in adequately defining synesthesia: Many different phenomena have been included in the term synesthesia ("union of the senses"), and in many cases the terminology seems to be inaccurate. A more accurate term may be ideasthesia. + even if you don't have synesthesia and just want to chat on here that's cool! everyone is welcome

ok i never really thought i did i thought i just... associated colours with things in like, a Normal Way. because only some letters/numbers/symbols have strong connotations and some have a lil range of hues that they could be. but i asked ppl about it recently and they were all like.... wtf no i dont do that at all so i guess it might be synaesthesia or something. though tbh im still not really sure abt synaesthesia as a concept. idk maybe i just havent researched it enough
anyway i often get confused between h's and n's (like, if something starts with an h but i cant remember i might think it starts with an n) because theyre like, the exact same colour to me and every time i was like 'oh sorry its an h/n instead' theyd be like HOW do u mix those two letters up. honestly though they look sorta similar too u cant blame me. OH AND R'S and g's to some extent... my brain didnt have much creativity with the colours thats a lot of overlap

bronzewing tbh i didn't really realize i had it until i read the book a mango-shaped space by wendy mass bc i considered it perfectly normal. then i thought maybe i had just remembered colors of letters from an alphabet placemat / fridge magnets when i was little but it turns out they were completely different from mine ahh yeah that's understandable! esp with the colors my h's and f's are the same as well as my e's and a's rip i feel you also some letters' colors are just kinda... nonexistent? like o's are almost colorless i guess you could say, and the color of my u's is a little unclear if i actually try to think about it. my numbers' colors are pretty vibrant

Nope! I just have normal, boring Sensory Processing Disorder. I get touch mistaken with smell, smell with noises, and it all just jumbles together and my brain is like 'screw this I'm out'.

ah man, i had some bizarre object-word association that was a lot more hardcore when i was little. the thing i remember most distinctly is the word "no" being a blender and "yes" being a notepad. i told this to my mom when i was like 4 and i'm p sure she never completely understood me from that point on
anyway i also have color-number-letter relation, but not all of them have colors. 1-10 are the ones i know best. the spacial type is probably the most prominent. i think that's probably why i struggle a lot in math bc it moves too quickly for me to "envision" the numbers. i also have it with days of the week, months, years, times, numbers, ages, etc. it's really hard to explain but i guess they're like on different levels, if that makes any sense? (probably not lmao)
also i'm not 100% on any of the terms (like i dunno what exactly i mean by "spacial", i know there's probably a term for it but i'm not sure what it is).

sand dollar honestly i thought i just remembered them from this book from when i was little (i mightve actually, to an extent, i havent looked at to check) but not all the things i have colours for are in that book so... who knows the Struggle of same coloured letters a few of my letters are the same? like, some of them are just vaguely light or dark like i's are white and l's are yellow but its vague enough that when put into words theyre sorta just like... light. and some have clear colours but when it comes to explaining them im just like 'who knows.....'. out of curiosity, are there any differences between uppercase and lowercase for you and yeah numbers are sorta clearer for me too (except seven and eight are like... similar. seven's lighter though) i also wonder if its more to do with the sound or shape/appearance of things like 5 is orange despite f being green and 'you' and 'u' are different, but when i learnt hangul a lot of the letters just ended up being the same as their english equivalent so maybe its a bit of both
