Hi again all, So I have planned to rearrange the series to get a break from the modern cats. I have read TPB, TNP and POT and am now going to read DOTC, then OOTS and then AVOS. It just breaks thing up a bit to swap OOTS and DOTC.
Here is my question: what other orders are there to read it? Like Star Wars fans have many different ways to watch them. Here are my ideas, post yours!
Release order: TPB-TNP-POT-OOTS-DOTC-AVOS
Timeline order: DOTC-TPB-TNP-POT-OOTS-AVOS
Machete order: TPB-TNP-POT-wikia summaries of OOTS-DOTC-AVOS
Indisputably great arcs only: TPB-first half of TNP-DOTC

Finish first 2 arcs, read respective SE's that seem interesting, then next two, then respective SE's, then AVOS.Then read respective SE's while waiting for Broken Code. Also read SE if you need a break from the main plot in general.

"Indisputably great" is highly, highly, highly debatable, and I know quite a few people who would say nothing in TNP deserves to be on that list, or that PoT does, or... etc.

"Indisputably great arcs" is super subjective between readers. One may think the arcs are great while another won't. Lots of folks like TNP for instance, but lots of others don't. Lots like DotC, but I've seen a fair amount that don't.
I personally have more-or-less done release order in terms of arcs, as I feel it's a little more tidy to read the main series first, then any sidebooks (Novellas/SEs) to piece up some things or fill in the gaps inbetween (Unless it's crap like LW and YS then frick that I'm better off never having read them).
How you read the books in terms of order is all your preference really.

I personally prefer to read books in order of release.

"Indisputably great arcs only."
So OS, POT, and DOTC?

when I was a kid in 3rd grade I actually thought the last book was the best so I always read them first and then went random. I believe I went darkest hour, forest of secrets, into the wild, fire and ice, rising storm, and ended with a dangerous path. I even read the last battle in narnia first. Then I grew up and read tnp mostly in order except I skipped twilight cuz I was "busy" and finished it over 10 years later.

I wonder how a new reader would react if they read all the books and SE's in chronological order...? would they still understand the same things we do and would suspense for main series events be spoiled by the SE's if they read it in chronological timeline order?

I think so. I’m rereading the series now and I definitely find it different from when I first read it! Since I get to fill all the gaps in with the SE’s mangas and novellas.
