Intro Stories. Passed down from generation to generation, or sometimes created at a whim, tales have provided an amazing form of entertainment since the beginning of time. Some true, others lies, stories can be weaved by anybody, anywhere. However, this doesn't neccesarily mean that the stories are true.
Sometimes, imagination can get the best of us. Small things in life can be suddenly blown out of proportion, simply because of a story. Stories of kits being stolen, cats being murdered, leaders commiting horrible crimes; most are simply not true... though that isn't always the case.
Indeed, some of these terrible stories can be true. They've really happened, and the living have witnessed the events. And yet, these true stories are still passed off as fiction, and used to terrify the younger ones. Now, many have come to understand and respect these stories of sadness.
One night in BarrenClan, three young warriors are left behind. Going on that night is the Spirit Time, in which the cats honor their ancestors. The trio finds themselves bored with awaiting the return of their Clanmates from the Time. So, they decide to pass the time with what has been passed down from generation to generation: frightening stories of ancient cats that are closer than they are thought to be. Certainly, the time seem appropriate to share tales of horror, as many cats regard the Spirit Time as down-right frightening; however, the trio believes the stories to be simple and untrue. With the sharing of these stories, though, the cats may soon learn that sometimes, no matter how unbelievable...
Those stories are more than stories. Directory Post 1 xx Intro Post 2 xx Chapter 1 Post 3 xx Chapter 2 Post 4 xx Chapter 3 Post 5 xx Chapter 4 Post 6 xx Chapter 5 Post 7 xx Characters Post 8 xx Fan List

Boredom "I can't believe we got left behind... again." Glaring orange eyes peered out into the darkened den, brewing with viciousness. The black she-cat's lip was curled, revealing her sharp teeth underneath. "They always leave us behind," she added, her voice taking on a whinier tone. "When will it be our turn to go to the Festival? I've always wanted to see it!"
Beside her, a dull grey tom shifted in his nest, his face betraying no emotion. "Hush, Mockingsong. We've only just become warriors. You know that Wiltedstar would never let somecat new go to it." Twitching an ear, he added, "All you're doing is causing a fuss. You certainly don't want Bearpelt snapping at you again, do you?" His tone was filled with annoyance, and his yellow eyes were glared at the she-cat.
On the opposite side of the den, a faint yellow-and-white tom snorted. "You two still fight like when we were kits," he chuckled. "Seriously, this is hilarious. Do I need to call for Tumblestep and get her to break you two up?" He chortled quietly to himself, still watching the two cats with his amber eyes.
By now, both of them had gone quiet. "Yeah, funny, Kerneltooth," the black she-cat snarled, her half white face twisted with anger. "At least we didn't run to our mothers all the time," she snapped. "We're independent. You still rely on mommy dearest to take care of you." Her tail lashed back and forth, scattering dirt and moss across the floor behind her.
Kerneltooth's gaze was still on the dull grey tom as the she-cat grumbled on. "Really, Spidercloud, I would've expected you to be much more mature by now, though," he meowed, his voice becoming more serious. Ignoring Mockingsong, he added, "We're now official warriors, and we need to act like it."
A somewhat awkward silence fell in the den as the cats glared at each other, each of them with bristled fur and bared teeth. How these three cats were friends, none of BarrenClan knew. All that could be taken was that the three simply supported each other, and somehow built a rocky friendship out of that. Now, not one cat would even twitch an ear if they heard the trio arguing; it was as normal as the wind for their Clanmates.
There they all sat, unwilling to speak, tempers flared and pride wounded. Eyes glared at each other, they simply stopped moving and talking. In the distance, frogs croaked their strange song in brash voices, and crickets soon joined in with tinier, light-hearted voices. The sound echoed through the camp, creating a delightful sound that seemed to be carried by the wind as if it wanted to share this tune with everyone.
"Why don't we just tell stories?" Kerneltooth's voice suddenly broke into the song, and as if on cue, the crickets' and frogs' music become much fainter. He glanced over to his Clanmates, head tilted. However, neither made a sound. "How about we tell stories?" he asked again, satisfied to finally see response from the other cats. "It'll be fun," he added, happiness beginning to sparkle in his eyes.
Mockingsong simply glanced over at the tom, tail beginning to twitch again. "What kind of stories?" she questioned, doubt in her eyes. Gaze narrowed, she stared at Kerneltooth, as if she didn't trust the tom. Letting out a snort, she lashed her tail yet again. "If they're nursery stories, then I'm out."
Kerneltooth simply met her temper with a purr. "Well, scary stories, of course! Certainly not nursery tales for kits," he added quickly. With a friendly nod, he meowed, "C'mon. It'll be so fun! Tonight's the perfect night anyways." Leaning in closer, his voice dropped as he added, "The others do say that the Spirits are most active tonight."
His companions leaned in a little closer as well. "Well..." Spidercloud murmured. "I guess it would be fun."
"This sounds awesome!" Mockingsong whispered, her eyes wide with excitement. "I've got the perfect story, too. It's about this tom-"
"Hold on a moment, Mockingsong." Kerneltooth gave a mrrowr of laughter at the she-cat's enthusiasm. Flicking his tail at the dull grey tom next to her, he said, "I think it's only right if Spidercloud goes first. He is the oldest, after all." The yellow-and-white tom glanced over at his friend and tilted his head to the side. "What do you think of that?"
Spidercloud glanced between the two cats, his yellow gaze taking them in. "Alright," he responded. "Sounds good to me." Settling down into his nest, he glanced up at the woven roof, and let out a sigh. "You both know about Hollowpaw's Gorge, right?" He waited for the others to nod before asking, "Do you know how it got its name?"
Mockingsong's brow furrowed. "Wasn't it some apprentice fell to his death or something?" she questioned. "At least, that's the story that was always told to me."
The dull tabby gave her a nod. "It was an apprentice, and he did fall... however, not everything is as it seems." Lowering his voice, he meowed, "You know, some say he was lured there, then pushed in." Slightly suppressing a purr at the others' sudden, confused looks. "Well, the story goes like this..."
